i started to watch it, like eh? :twitch: wtf is all that crap ... but now i feel it like an enormous joke aimed to poke us 1337 HaxX0RZ :heh: .. perhaps because the 1st eps aren't that great :o
a real opening & the recurrent events (like the sister undressing) are soooo damn phunny :)
one of those i wish it would last forever :heh:
I find BPS interesting probably because this shows theme deals with Crackers and such. Oh boy i hope that guy BPS isnt an perveted as I think he is, wasn't that his relative when he tried to look up her skirt in episode 1 or 2. Thats nothing new thanks to Onegai Twins for that. Anyways I hope future episodes are better.
I like this anime.. But maybe I'm just biased since I like Shirase Akira so much. ^^; lol. I thought it was interesting to see Misao from Pretty Sammy in it! o.O The opening/ending themes are good too.
I'm enjoying it so far as well. "Oh, it blew up." Shirase's reactions (or lack thereof) are very entertaining. And his relationship with Misao (the little girl) is definitely perplexing.

still not totally sold on this anime, but being an uber nix geek myself I do like the hacker themes in it. :)

I really really like this show for some reason. Shirase's interest in young girls is distrubing but I like the show.
I also really like the OP and ED of the show.
IMHO the show is not realistic but its something about the comedy and mood of the show I think works.
What is everyones opinions?

What's BPS?
Battle Programmer Shirase (http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/258.html)
I like it too, but I find the episodes really short, since half of the 13 minutes is gone with the OP, review of the last episodes, ED and preview of next episode :/

All I can say is that Pixy Misa better make an appearance at some point in this show. If they're going to have Amano Misao in the show how can they ignore her alter-ego?

It can also be just a coincidence for the names :)
It sometimes happens :)
Or perhaps was done on purpose?

im gonna download this anime to see what its like but
Battle Programmer SHIRASE 1 (http://a.scarywater.net/suck/) (Part 1)
Battle Programmer SHIRASE 1 (http://a.scarywater.net/suck/) (Part 2)
Battle Programmer SHIRASE 1 (http://a.scarywater.net/suck/) (Part 3) i was wondering whether i have to download all three of these? *since it says part 1,2 and 3* if so why is it in parts?
It seems the anime is cut into 3 parts...
So you'll have to see 3 mini sequences of about 10 minutes each from a "We Sucks" Fansub :heh:
And I dunno why it was cut into 3 parts...
Seems to me the show actually airs in those little segments. I could be wrong, though.
As for the original question, I really enjoy BPS. And I agree that it's somewhat difficult to nail down what about the series and the characters is so appealing. It's an odd one, to be sure.

It's certainly on purpose. Both shows are AIC and they have some of the same people working on them.

It's a funny anime about a computer hacker who's hired by many different people for many reasons. Hmm, where's Koshiba? She could probably tell you more about this anime since she's such a fan of the main character. :)

I find it distrubing also, shes got to be in junoir high, he like in his twenties or thrities. Other then that Im starting to like it, im curious about his hacker techniques very interesting indeed.
Well.. I obviously like the show. The music is great and it's funny. ^^ The next episode looks really interesting so I can't wait.

Shirase is a legendary uber-hacker. He is reknown worldwide for his skills. Nothing is inpenetrable.
His trademark is the three sisters. Where he hacks into, takes over, and crashes 3 satellites, the first two are sacrificed as disposable shields to protect the 3rd one so it can hit a target. In the show BPS used Cosmos Milsats that the Russians denied even having so they cant make much of a public fuss about them.
He gets hired by corporate and Goverment persons to be a counter-hacker to thwart King Of America.

The show seems to rehash a couple of situations in the episodes I've seen and also it may seem quite dull at times... but despite that, the OP and ED alone has gotten me to watch the show on a regular basis...
I like it. Its funny and light-hearted. I love BPS' reactions to everything (like buildings being blown up, etc). And yes his little 'school-girl' fetish is a little disturbing, but its not like he's going to do anything. By the way I think the girl is in 6th grade (the last grade of Japanese elementary school).
Maybe I enjoy this because I'm studying computer engineering, and its hilarious to see things like "Definite-Kill, Double Compile!". I'm actually doing a research project with one of my professors right now on computer intrusion detection and building an adaptive response system. I should let the prof know of BPS :joke:

Well, after watching this mini-episode things in the opening credits for BPS are starting to come together and make sense. Plus, I noticed that they kind of kept away from the cliche's of the first two, which was a nice switch. Plus that short police woman chick from the opening credits and the little girl from the ending credits is in there too. :)
Won't tell you all what happened, you'll just have to see that for yourself, but man, this episode really turned things around. I thought it was going to tank as a series, but from the looks of this third installment, it very well may just take off. Of course BPS was his normal bland self again. Made me laugh a lot. :)
Its getting better, so im sticking with it for a while. That kid policewoman appeared and it seems like she'll be meeting BPS in the next episode, I hope he doesn't do anything perverted. I really wish the episodes were longer instead of making all these parts it getting annoying.

And here I was thinking: "Where are my pervert scenes?"
I liked this ep.. It's really getting interesting. I can't wait for the next. I'm wondering what's going to happen when Shirase and that little hacker girl meet. Ooh. I can't wait. xD Shirase is so funny.

Yeah, and to think that initially nobody held this series in high regard. Nice to see it turn around and start to become good. :) Especially with the good hacker/bad hacker them to it. Very cool. Definately tickles my geek side. :)

As soon as I figure out how to use VirtualDub correctly, I'm looking at taking We Suck's (that just sounds so weird) release and merge each of the 3 episodes in each episode into a single 30 minute episode each. That won't happen right away, but eventually it will. Make it simplier for the lazy. ;)
I also liked the show from episode 1. :D I hate the shortness too.. It's like just when it's getting good it's over and I'm like "Damn!" xD It's evil.

This is kind of an odd thought, but with Bottle Fairy ending in another 6 episodes (the raw of ep7 is out already, that's why i say that.) it will leave BPS all alone in that time slot. Unless they come up with another 15 minute wonder that fills that slot, I'm starting to think that BPS may go and become a full half hour. That would mean 1 full episode every week, not spread out over 3 weeks. I'm guessing at this as I don't know for certain, but I suspect that'll be what happens. Being a hacker comedy/drama show, I'm sure the producers were glad to do it this way initially because it meant that they could test out the show. If it went good, it would go to a full half hour, if not, it gets canned at the end of bottle fairy. I personally expect it to go to a full half hour, or at teh very least stay where it's at. :) IT's just too good now to drop it.
I agree this show is just too interesting to get canned, has their been any other hacker themed anime before. This show just brings out my inner geek ness everytime I watch it.

I don't think there has been. Man, I so wish I could hack...er, program like BPS. :D
Can you imagine going up to your geek friends and going "look what I can do!" then bring up the entire CIA secret archives for kicks? :)
just watch ep3 part 2, I wonder who still watching this....
Here we go again this time more perverted scenes child pedophiles would like :) anyways nothing much happening just that little woman coming over to bps room and hitting on him in a teasing sexual way. Oh boy I just felt that was wrong, oh so wrong. The preview for the next episode seems a little more exciting looks like we get to see more super hackers er... programmmers and watch Amano get kissed on the cheek by that little women damn I already forgot her name already.

hehe. I love the series and the last part of this episode looks freaking awesome. :)
Hehe. Just watched the episode. Yoriko is pretty interesting. XD She's cool. After this episode.. for some reason I like Shirase even more. ^-^ I seriously love the music for this series too. It's getting interesting. I want to learn more about Shirase's past. I want to learn more about Yoriko too. Yoriko is pretty intelligent.. xD Whee. Once again, I can't wait for the next episode~
same here I want to know about Shirase's past when he was MPS, by the way what does the M stand for. He must've been some badass teenage kid back then. Seems like he doesnt want to talk about it so much.
Havent seen ep 3 part 2 yet but Shirase doesn't seem like a pervert too me. In ep 1 when Misao is making lunch/breakfast for Shirase it's the camera that tries to take a peek up Misaos skirt, not Shirase.
My guess is the show is making fun of the target audience (juvenile boys of all ages) and our fascination with young teenage anime shoolgirls ;)
I'm treating this show as satire for now and thats why I'm watching it. A show being funny while bashing geek culture is not something to be missed.

BPS is not a pervert, he just likes em young. Come on he was obviously Jealous when that boy and Misao was together in ep 2. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to notice. Not to mention it seems like hes reading dirty magazines or the ones with the cute girls in it, tell me he isn't a pervert. Why do they have to put this stupid perverted fanservice crap in it, I think it do better without.
Ok.. So.. Shirase is a pervert, who isn't? :P
I don't think he's really *lusting* after Misao. He does like her, obviously. But probably not in a sick "I wanna do her" sort of way. He seems to really like cat-girl hentai though. ;)

Eh isn't she his niece he shouldn't like her that way. Anyways I can deal with it just as long as he doesn't make a move with her or anything. Other then that im enjoying the show wish it was longer though.
Come on he was obviously Jealous when that boy and Misao was together in ep 2.
That was not jealousy. It was the normal response of any older brother seeing some dork being together with your little sister. Some punk tries to date your sister you beat him up. If he can take a few beatings without loosing interest that means he likes her and is not just out to screw her over and hurt her feelings.
While I agree with Koshiba that we're all more or less perverts Shirase is not some kind of pederast. Ok he seems to like cat-girl hentai but in my book I would consider people not liking cat-girls more perverted than people who do. I mean when you mix two cuddly, cute things - kittens and girls - how can you not like that? :D
But seriosly. All I've seen so far is one guy hanging out with his niece. I'ts nothing wrong with that. Can anyone come up with a situation where Shirases behaviour towards Misao is questionable?

Ep1 part 1 when Shirase tries to look up Misao's skirt. That would be called questionable behavior I say. Although he doesn't succeed in doing it the fact that he tries is uh how should I say... kinda questionable, wouldn't you say.
edit: ok ok I leave Shirase alone for now, but if he does anything to cute little Misao i'll be mighty pissed that pervert, get a real woman.

Already said this but I'll say it again. Shirase was to far away to get a look up her skirt. It was the camera doing the looking. So although Shirase isn't a pervert the creators of BPS know that we all are. Threrefore they give us a hint of the obligatory pantie-shot. It's just satire, making fun of the ecchiness you to some extent find in most anime. Thats how I see it anyway.
I really like BPS too. I don't really mind the Shirase and Misao thing. On the contrary I find it amusing. :D I watched enough anime to not be disturbed by it.
My only complaint is each ep is too short.

I know he was too far away to look up her skirt god damn it, I said he was trying to, itching ever so close. lol you must be blind not to notice what he was trying to do in ep1 sheesh. Anyways I dont want to talk about it anymore hes a pervert fine Im ok with that, but what I dont like is some old dudes checking out young elementary school girls in a anime and he seems to be doing just that.
Shirase is a little ecchi, I will not deny that, but he's like a dog held on an unbreakable chain. He may think of some... inappropriate things from time to time, but he never does and never would act on them. Just to clear things up for myself and others, let's see if i can lay it out...
Shirase is Misao's mother's aunt's younger brother, and not even close enough to be exactly an uncle. His relation is just loose enuough that, if Misao were an adult, the Japanese culture would not start shouting "Inbreeding!" Shirase practically raised Misao since she was maybe 5 or 6. He grew close to her quick, and, as he saw her grow, saw how wonderful a person she was becoming, he fell in love(yes, he fell in love.) But Misao is still too young, so he's waiting for her, and holding everything back with all his might. He doesn't really have a major thing for little girls, he just realized he loved a girl too soon.
Misao loves Shirase, as a big brother, and just a little more. She's more open with him than anyone. Anyone else, even her mother, she barely says three words at a time. But with him, she's a chatterbox. She seems to have just the slightest crush on him. She trusts him completely, and this leads to a problem. In every 3-part ep, you sometime have a sequence like this: Shirase almost starts to lose his grip on his less appropriate feelings, but holds it back just in time. Misao notices what hes thinking, sort of, and, trusting and "liking" him as she does, happily obliges, to such ends as showing off her school swimsuit. Nothing bad, but maybe questionable. At the moment that happens, BPS's current employer appears and thinks he's committing illegal actions with a minor, but doesn't turn him in because the employer needs him.
Now, in episode 3, we meet Yunoki Yoriko, a hacker Misao's age with as much skill as BPS. She adds a dangerous third wheel into the relationships. Yori-tan(as Misao says she'll call her) is direct, and just a little manipulative. What's worse, while Misao might be on the verge of growing up, Yori-tan has fully matured mentally. That is to say, she's ecchi. And open and direct about it. She sees what's going on between Misao and BPS, and finds it entertaining. I get the feeling that, in the near future, she's going to be creating some real mischief and forcing a great deal of tension into the relationships. In the end, she will force everything out into the open, for good or bad.
Thought I'd add a note here. The term "hacker" has been avoided by a few people in here, so I'll clarify the terms.
"Hacker" is a good programmer, from the term "Hacking together" some eloquent(really good) code. It is a compliment, meaning that a person is good at programming. Hackers these days refers often to those who use those skills to satisfy a curious streak in them, but they have a strict "look, don't touch" rule. They will only plant little surprises into governments, corporations, and other hackers. The gov's and co's because of a certain disdain for their attempt to hide information which hackers believe should be completely free, and other hackers as a sort of rivalry. They do not directly or intentionally harm "civilians".
"Crackers", on the other hand, are literally criminal-hackers. They use their skills not only to indulge their curious natures, but to actually profit illegally at the expense of others. These people don't have morals, but they are not, strictly speaking, hackers. Hackers typically dislike them. Comparing a cracker to a hacker is sort of like comparing a person who breaks in and steals everything to someone who breaks in to take a look at your personal decor. Also, you occasionally get a Kracker. The K basically says that they are people who use their hacking skills to help them kill people. Rare, but dangerous. So a hacker is not a criminal, and calling someone a hacker is actually a compliment. so don't get tense.
Shirase himself is a Wizard. That's a hacker who is so skilled that it's almost like magic on the computer. Don't anger a wizard. They've got stuff far worse than "I love you" or the worm. Trust me.
BTW, I've noticed that the child-romance thing is getting popular in anime. We've got Rizelmine, UFO Princess Valkyrie, and now BPS. I find it amusing like any other romance-comedy situation, but I fear that this means we will never see BPS on this side of the Pacific. Too bad.
Shirase is a little ecchi, I will not deny that, but he's like a dog held on an unbreakable chain. He may think of some... inappropriate things from time to time, but he never does and never would act on them. Just to clear things up for myself and others, let's see if i can lay it out...

Nice analysis, you made some good points there. Yoriko-chan the little super hacker is very mature like, I cant believe what she did to Shirase in ep3 part2 oh my shes gonna be a handful in upcoming eps. I can just see her messing with Shirase again.

Now thats a new one a Wizard I never heard someone refer to themselves as a Wizard before in the hacker/cracker world. Thanks for the advice I wouldnt want to get on the wrong side of a Wizard if one such exist of course :0. The child romance thing seems to be the new fad in anime romance/comedy anime I guess, which I sorta think is immoral, but it does look cute sometimes.
Seiryuu: You summed up everything great! :D
And Yoriko seems like a cool character. :P I like her personality so far.
Child Romance? I've never really had a problem with that in anime. Then again.. Sex, Age, race, incest, blah. None of that's really ever bothered me. I enjoy all romance just the same. I'm really wondering how the Misao/Shirase thing is gonna come about though. :P As for incest not bothering me.. We'll blame that on Angel Sanctuary. ^^;
Gahhh. Wish these episodes were longer~
Oh man, the first episode really dashed my hopes, I love programming and was really looking forward to an anime with a programmer as the main character. I could deal with the stereotypes but the constant reuse of animation among other things was a letdown. But, episode 2 redeemed the series, the opening and closing animations were finally there, and they're great! The hacking scenarios have been interesting so far.
I think it's funny that the other characters think Shirase is a big pervert and then tolerate it. But he's really just a closet pervert so it's OK. Too bad Yoriko is an evil lolita type, I don't think it's cool to sexualize children like that. Hopefully the anime will use it for all the comedic value without actually being offensive. Rizelmine made me sad by crossing the line too many times and I couldn't really watch it, hope they don't do that here!
Yeah there isn't much content in each part, but since the opening and closing are good now it's OK. Can't complain about the price, either :D
Ok, I''ll give up.
Now after part 3 of ep 3 I'll just have to admit to the fact that Shirase and the whole show is just on big steaming pile of pervertedness ;)
It's funny though...
No, wait I take that back. Shirase is no pervert. He's just a bit eh - emotionally complex? Yeah thats the word. Good at computers but sucky with emotions...
Crap. That doesent sound convincing at all. Makes it hard to justify liking this show as much as I do though :D
seems like someone else other then me has revived this thread once again. ep3 part 3, yet another episode full of pertverted situations. Like the one with Yoriko and Shirase doing it doggy style. Is was a misunderstanding but that was just plain nasty, anymore of these stupid non funny perverted situations i might just drop this series. the only reason im watching this is because of the hacker theme, but damn do they have to have these perverted scenes just to get ppl interested, i seriously dont think it needs it.

Now thats a new one a Wizard I never heard someone refer to themselves as a Wizard before in the hacker/cracker world.
A true "wizard" would never refer to themselves that way - it's a title bestowed on them by others. It's also pretty old-school and maybe a bit out of favor these days, but lots of Tolkien and role playing theme show up in early hacker lingo...
"Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.
- Gandalf"
What does "MPS" stand for? I don't remember them saying what it stands for in the show...although I could be wrong.

Raiden, don't be afraid of the word hack. The word does not refer to breaking through firewalls, etc. It just means to program. Hacker itself is a compliment, like "hacking together some eloquent code". I discussed this in another BPS thread. Hackers are good. Even if they break into your PC, they just look around, unless you're another hacker or some bastid capitalist corporation, then all bets are off. Gov, corporations, and other hackers are considered fair game for battle and... exercise. But a hacker will not harm a civilian. They believe in look dont touch. Sort of like a guy breaking into your house to get a good look at your family heirlooms, as if the place were a museum. Crackers are the ones that'll steal stuff, hence the cr, for criminal. The point is, don't edge around the word. Just dont start talkin about crackin.
Anyway, I was a little disturbed by Yoriko, aka Yori-tan. She is a little too ecchi for me, esp. for a roughly 11-yr-old. In one part she's quite openly trying to seduce BPS, and later, well... An incoming helicopter throws up a lot of dust. BPS instinctively protects Yoriko by covering her, but somehow the attempt ends up with the military finding BPS and Yoriko in what one thread refers to as "doggy style". Yoriko obviously complains, telling BPS: "We're in public!"
Now I'm not female, so I can't be sure, but I imagine if a girl were caught in an embarrassing position accidentally in some public area, she would say something along the lines of "What the !#$#%^&(&%6 are you doing?!!! GET OFF OF ME!!!" and would be upset because she had been caught in an embarrassing situation. If she was more polite, she might say that this looks a little weird, please get off. She would not complain about the fact that they were in a public place. I pity Shirase. He's got a girl he's in love with who's too young for him, and another girl who is practically throwing herself at him. I doubt he'll survive long.

Yup, I can bet he'll have a hard time surviving. He's exploded in the nose already thanks to Yoriko. :) Much more of that and the man might explode. 0_0
If only I can watch 3 mini eps each week. The wait in between is painfully long for me maybe because the ep is so short. The OP and ED are growing on me. I really like them wonder if they're avail for download.

Hmm... Interesting definitions you have here. :p
Is Yoriko a child prodigy, or does she just look young for her age?
All in all, I think that BPS is a decent show with an (bland - a very good description, thanks) anti-hero who has few redeeming qualities except for his loyalty and feelings toward Misao-chan, upon which he's not acting. Thankfully. Very little in terms of depth, but a nice piece of fluff.
This being a shounen series, I wasn't expecting a whole lot of touchy-feely development anyway.
Edit - With the episodes split up into parts, character development would be rather painful to do for the writers, IMHO. Lots of flashbacks would likely be needed.
what's bps ? =P
BPS stands for Battle Programmer Shirase its a hacker themed show with some dumb perverted sex gags other then its ok. Each part is only 8-10 minutes long where three parts = 1 episode. So far theres been three episodes subbed and available on BT

Im wondering if Yoriko just looks young and that is part of her cover or if she really is a child prodigy. She seems awfully mature and sexually aware for one so young.
She didnt get mad at Shirase for the accidental "doggy position" because she was not offended by his advances, just not in public. Remember in a earlier scene she all but threw herself at him. If they had been in private she probably would have encouraged Shirase to proceed. Being how touchy America is about anything relating to underage sex and pedophiles I dont expect to see PBS released in the US anytime soon.
I have also been a fan since ep 01.
You put it better than me, Anlushac. That is what scares me about Yoriko. I get the impression that she really is just a kid, about 11-yr-old judging from the grade. But even if she was a grown woman with looser morals than Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo, I would be disturbed to find a woman's only complaint to be not what a guy was doing, but the fact that he was doing it in public. And as far as the question of how she would react if the place was more private, I get the uneasy feeling that she might have been referring to that scenario when she said she'd "pick up where they left off" on her next visit. Maybe I'm mistaken. What other "incident" might she have been talking about? I'd like to know.
is anyone else watching this?
You should try this link perhaps?....

Might as well be the on to start a new BPS thread now that episode 4 is out.
Anyway, this show is so funny. I wondered how they were going to mix up Shirase with Misaos crazy teacher but I guess the magical marriage interview works. Just some random stuff...
If Shirase is from this really "prominent" or "fine" family the why is he introduced to that hysterical teacher? I guess he's not the best prospect either...
Did you notice the bunch of total fucking nerds Shirase hangs out with at the university? lol.
Shirase in a white tuxedo. Ew. He looked like such a dork :D
I just wished ppl could get over the fact that this show is not really about hacking though. They seem to show less and less of that now as the story progresses anyway.
Well what else can I say. This show is so damn funny. I would say that right now it's even funnier than Cromartie (not that you really can compare the two but I say it anyway).
Yep.. BPS is a funny show. lol. I just really hate how the episode is always over at the good part. xD I want to know what happens next~ I thought this was a pretty good episode. And I like Shirase's lifestyle. ^^ His family seems to maybe be very traditional though and probably aren't really into Technology much. xD
In ep4 part1
Was that old woman Shirases sister cause he calls her Oneesan. She seems really old she has to be at least 50ish. I thought she was old enough to be his mother.

That is his older sister. It was commented that he is Misao's uncle so it isn't surprising that he's got a much older sister.

Wahh! This series reminds me of Rizelmine! (not that thats a bad thing...:))
It does seem to be another coming of age / lolicon, romance/comedy series but they seem to have gone down the "Leon/The Professional" route by refering to the fact that BPS is emotionally underdeveloped (You'll notice that people refer to him as "never having grown up", or "still a child") as justification for his love of Misao, or at least to show some non sexual motivation for his attraction.
Anyhow whatever you're views are on this, I happen to like the overall feel of the series, it doesn't take itself seriously, and can be genuinely funny in places.
Onto even more interesting territory, I've not seen much of Tenchi Muyo but am aware that Misao is a character in that series or one of the spin offs, does anyone know if any further characters from the Tenchi universe will be crossing over to this one? Its just that in the opening credits there are silhouettes of two characters (with spooky green backlighting), the one with pigtails looks like it could almost be....... Sasami/Pretty Sammy. Perhaps cast as a baddie in this series????
What do you think??? :p
Anyhow as for MPS I dont think they explained what the anacronym stood for but I'm not sure, wasn't it actually a thing (that BPS/ his colleagues were working on) rather than a person, perhaps Main Programming System or something along those lines? :)

Rizelmine was a great series. xD And I love the movie The Professional.. Even though the ending upset me. >_>;
Anywho.. Yeah. Shirase is kind of a child himself. xD Although I'm sure he probably IS sexually attracted also.. He has catgirl hentai! Probably sometimes imagines Misao as a catgirl.. :P lol. But I think Shirase has a non-sexual attraction crush for the most part. I don't really think he'd actually try something on her anyways. So he's not really doing anything wrong. Some people seem to take this series too seriously when you're not supposed to. ^^; I think the series is very funny but then again I might just be easily amused. ^_^;

I agree with you completely, Its mostly poking fun at the kind of people who would be offended by it! :p
Shirase's not THAT bad. He loves Misao, because he's had so long to get to know her. Anyway, considering the number of times I've heard this sort of thing, I think the "waiting for her to grow up so we can be married" idea is not only standard, but seen as sort of romantic. Even in one of my favorite Japanese RPGs, Lufia, in the end one man is leaving for an adventure when he's confronted by a girl who says she'll wait for him and , when she grows up, will marry him if she has to drag him to the altar. He accepts without question. It seems the idea of loving someone like that is considered acceptable.
Anyway, yes, Shirase indubitably does feel something sexual for Misao, as she is approaching that age, and love almost always triggers some thoughts in that direction. Frankly, I think Misao loves Shirase in the same way, and is just starting to feel similar feelings herself. This would explain why she is almost exhibitionistic around him. However, I think the scene from the most recent ep, 4.2, was extremely wrong. Yet, it is obvious that she had no control over the sitch. As far as I can tell, the King of America thought that Misao was Shirase's prospective bride, and misfired, triggering the sorts of feelings in Misao that the device was made for. After all, there is a flicker before any scene, and Misao is acting weird through the whole scene. As a 10-11-yr-old, the EMP(electromagnetic pulse) probably has stronger effect on her than it would have on one with a fully developed brain. Add to that the already present love she has for Onii-chan, and the fact that she's just not equipped to handle the emotions the EMP triggered, in either way, it's lucky things ended up as innocent as they did. I just wonder what it would do to someone younger? It might kill them.
This next thing is something I noticed after reviewing ep 1.2. After seeing this far, it seems obvious that Misao likes Onii-chan and is maybe a little too open with him. That is why this looked a little strange. It's probably my imagination, but right before Misao stretched up to get something from higher up above the sink, and when BPS was edging his way over to try and get a...view... it looked like Misao looked back over her shoulder right before reachign up like that. If this is so, she knew that BPS was coming up behind her and didn't care. Still not as bad as Yoriko complaining about being in public, but bad nonetheless.
Either way, I, too, liked Rizelmine, and I think this has the makings for a good series whether or not they follow that path further. Though I hope they don't get too far-fetched either. It was rather hard to believe that an EMP could trigger a sudden flood of hormonal responses in specific individuals towards one another. They'd better not push sci-fi too far, this isn't the kind of show that can pull it off.

OMG! I luv:love: this series enuf to compel me to post!
It's so funny with the crazy pedophile-sexual situation things Shirase gets in each episode. Ep 3's was the best cuz it was waaaay wrong looking, while ep 4 was kinda bad-tasted and much too blunt speshally when they do the black and white picture of fellatio thingie.
This series gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside, espeshally when Misao/the announcer guy go "Mau! Mau!!"
Im gonna go learn how to rip sounds from anime vids just so i can compile Misao going "Mau!! Mau!!" and get all giddy!!

So far my favorite character is Yoriko.
Yoriko definately has the hots for Shirase since she considers him her equal or better, and that excites her.
I also think she likes Misato and considers her a close friend. Yoriko has no hesitation in chasing or seducing Shirase but I also dont think she would do anyhting to hurt her friend Misato either. So it will be interesting to see howe that part unfolds.
I also think the earlier explanation of Shirase being a distant enough relative in Japanese culture that this would not be considered incest. And being a hardcore catgirl fan (Yoriko from Da Capo comes to mind), I can certainly respect his catgirl collection.
I also love how Shirase often trades his services for items like the catgirl poster, the rare computer, etc. The hackers I know are like that they will trade services for desired items, food, beverages, etc.
Also it looks like Pixy Misa makes her appearance next episode. Cant wait!

I was under impression that Yoriko was a bit older than Misao and was posing as a young girl to get closer to Misao and BPS?
Darn the luck. Guess I will have to watch it again. :)
And if you try to make sense of the show you will fry your brain. The show satirizes everything. Some think its stupid that the same guy keeps shpwing up in secondary roles and keeps catching BPS in compromising situations. I find that to just another of the humorous aspects, what role will he play tonight?

Agreed. :P Some people find it annoying, I find it funny. ^^ In other news, I think I'm the only one on the forum with a Shirase Akira siggy/avatar. xD
Besides "Suddenly" by Amagata Naomi and "Pure Enough" by Matsuura Yuki (two great songs), this is drawn and paced so nicely...and it's funny!
The "positions" BPS gets into with Misao and Yoriko are hysterical.

One thing I've noticed about most anime is that, while things like computer hacking may not be shown exactly realistically (and it would probably be boring if they did), you at least get the impression the creators do actually know how to use a computer. Unlike say, Hollywood movies, where computers always still seem to be of that bad sci-fi type (full of das blinken-lights). Anime creators do seem more in tune with the actual Internet community and the current on-line trends and they get a lot of the details right. I guess maybe because there's probably a large cross-over with their fanbase.

Let's hope not. The website mentions a BPS Special though so this is not the end.

Yes, it is only the end of the season. From my understanding BPS is switching to half hour episodes next season. That device is most likely a "twiddler keyboard." You can register any keystroke from a full size keyboard by pressing combinations of the five keys on the unit.

The official webpage says "First season complete" after episode 5 on the episode guide. That, plus what they say in the prologue, strongly suggest that they're making a second season, although it is not clear when it will air. (Although we will sub it whenever it DOES air, even though that will probably give us two active projects at once.)

Did anyone else notice in the opening to the final episode that the narrator actually thanked not only those people who watched the series on TV, but those who
"took special actions to watch the show on their PC monitors" and "watched it subtitled overseas" as well...
They were thanking the fansubbers (and the leachers)! This might be the first active acknowledgement from actual anime producers of the fansub community that I've heard of. Kindof made me feel appreciated for watching the show. And I'm sure it made the good people at We Suck happy too. Maybe if they're lucky, they'll put in some hidden reference to the group in the second season...

hm..when I watched the final episode I think I skipped it so I didn't see what the narrator was saying. I rewatched that part again and indeed he thanks the ppl overseas watching the subtitle versions of it. I think this is the first time in an anime this has been done, or has it been done before. Interesting....
BPS is a guy and guys think about it all the time. The difference between a pervert and a non pervert is a pervert acts on his impulses. The running gag in BPS is getting caught in uncomfortable situations with little girls but it was not like he was doing anything wrong. it's supposed to be funny

hm... it is quite true. lolicon thing is quite big in jap. but the line for loli-addict and pedophile is quite thin though. most people tend to generalize that loli-admirers are pedophiles. anyways, adorable is adorable... u cant argue with that... in the anime's case it happens most with loli type characters.... which mostly represent pureness, youth, femine...... erm.. and the puri puri thing... which add a slight ecchi touch to it.

I heard about this series last year, but didn't give it much attention, till just today the whole series was posted in one torrent. Thought I would give it a chance, but the DL speed on the big torrent was so slow, I just downloaded all the single eps. Good series, I had more then a few good laughs. At the end, they say help support efforts for BPS second season by buying the DVD box set. So I bet we will see one, cause I think this series will probably go well in japan.
Ohhh side note, the single files are the same ones as the one in the batch torrent right? If that's the cause, I'll just change the files names then seed for the batch torrent tommorow, right now I'm too tired to do anything, 4 am and all.

Well, I'm still trying to find out some info, but I'm coming up with amost nothing. It would appear as though the studios are either being uber quiet or they dropped the sequel to this series cause two of my contacts did some poking around and the only answer they got was "BPS season 2? Never heard of it." AKA nobody knows anything about a second season, or they're claming up really tightly in anticipation of a really kick*** second season. But I'm drawing blanks no matter which direction I turn, so it's got to be one of two things.
1. Everything for season 2 was dropped.
2. Season 2 is going to be so jaw dropping that the studios are staying uber quiet about it.
I'm hoping for #2, but we won't know for a while, I'm sure.
One thing has bugged me since I watched this series. What was the deal with the little boy crying in the phone booth? :heh:
From everything I remember about the 'end of BPS' it was the result of the sponsor deciding to cut funding or the broadcaster deciding not to air it anymore.
The micro-episode thing is a kind of newer thing that the stations are trying and it doesn't seem to be working out too well.
The hopeful tone of the narrator during the opening of the final episode was indicating that they were shopping the title around for a new whatever they needed (be it a sponsor, broadcaster, etc).
It appears to me as though it is gone. Unfortunately.
Lord Raiden
2004-07-15, 21:39
Hmm, lack of a sponsor? Yeah, I can see where that would kill a show. Too bad too. I'd hate to see it die and go away forever. But I do agree that the micro episode thing just sucks. They needed to make that show full size. Also, they needed to get away from the recycled jokes at the beginning of each episode. Ugh. But other than that the show rocked. It would suck to see it die due to lack of a sponsor.

Awww. Koshi is sad. No more Shirase Akira? Maybe they should make a manga or something for it instead. =( It'd be such a shame for it to just end like that. It was such a cool series~
Lord Raiden
2004-07-16, 12:44
Well, I don't know how much of an impact it would have, but maybe if we wrote the studios a letter asking them to continue the series, they might. Cause if they know fans are going to want to see a second season they can show that to potential sponsors and the chances of a 2nd season go up all that much more. Also, it will depend on how well the dvd's sell in Japan and how well they sell stateside.
But definately writing letters to them would be a big boost to getting this to come out for a 2nd season. We'll just need to tell them to make it full 30 minute shows. :)

I will have to go back and watch the show to be sure but I think that was a flashback to a childhood incident the recurring character Akizuki Takashi had. Im not sure what it relates to, being left alone or abandoned but the flashback seems to affect his decisions.
I want to see more Yoriko and the blonde from ep 15.

I liked BPS too.
it appears S2 won't be starting for the Fall Season either...and i doubt the january season. Maybe next spring. HOPEFULLY. and BPS S1 aired on like 4 different channels, so it can't have been a lack of broadcaster.
If i ever win the lottery, i will open a USA anime company, and liscenced BPS, alongside the yuusha series (like GaoGaiGar), Shinkon Gattai Godannar, Kamikaze Kaitoy Jeanne, and Full moon wo Sagashite.

Gods does this anime SUCK!!!
But i found it funny at times, especialy getting nabbed in all those compromising positions. I relised once i stoped trying to makes sense of the show it made sense heheh. The other thing i think is wrong with it is the same thing Wind had, each episode is only 10 minutes or so long, so you just get into it when it ends.
I'll probably get any future episodes, just to see what the hell happens, and what other positions he gets caught in hehehe
I'm a bit late on this one, aren't I? Oh, well. Just watched it, and it was quite good. Here's hoping this isn't one of those shows that meets its end before it really got to go anywhere.

BPS was only good for 2 things to me: Shirase as a super geek with dinosaur age PC's and Yoriko Yunoki :heh: [Orikasa Fumiko going full out to steal the show as the loli genius with a maneater/yuri switch :twitch: ].
Oh, and having one of the most head sticky and catchy ED themes for 2003 :D
I LOVED BPS!
To watch you must be in computers as most of the tech terms are very boring.
But if you can follow all the stuff he does it's a fun riot. Also the girl in Episode 5 reminds me of Lisa in Girls Bravo.
Too bad this is a Doshinji (did I spell that right?) and will probably never finish. But then look at Tsukihime, that was a fan comic that became a kickass anime.
....now just how exactly is this a doujinshi? Oo;; I don't know if the Shirase manga, if there was one, started like that or not, but the anime certainly isn't a "doujin anime" or anything along those lines.
Right at the beginning of Episode 1....it says something like 'this was done by a group of independent animators. Please show much love so we can get enough funds to make another'. (I paraphrased it...I can't remember , it was a lot of text).
That's where I thought it was a doujinshi.

Well, even if they were independent animators, they'd still need a sponsor. Because you don't get airtime on any network unless you have one or you've got a bloody huge bankroll to back you up, because it ain't cheap getting your show on TV, especially prime time.
More Johnny-come-lately discussion! In episode 4 part 2, when Shirase and Misao were alone together, the lights flickered, meaning the implausible Horny Maker (TM) was activated, and this made Misao act funny and clingly, but then why did it make Shirase less lolicon then ever before? He's got Misao cuddled in his crotch, and he's all like "Are you sick? Should I get your Mom?"
It worked when he was in the elevator with Sae-sensei.
On a more general note, the comedy style of this show is fairly unique, it would be a terrible shame if it's never picked up again. I mean, even all the loli fanservice doesn't seem whorish or anything.

Well, Shirase is a rational adult above all else. He knows that taking advantage of Misao would be wrong, especially when she's acting oddly, and would almost certainly make him somebody's girlfriend in prison. While he certainly displays very obvious lolicon tendancies during the series, he never attempts to commit any crimes when the opportunities present themselves. Always a pervert, never a statutory-rapist. I'm sure that aside from what we see in the series, he's had plenty of opportunities in the past considering he's lived near Misao for the last few years I think, though his attraction to her is probably more recent due to her entering adolescence.
On the other hand, he may simply not have enough time to do anything in the first place since usually somebody catches him with his face in Pantsu-land pretty quickly once he gets there. :P
It would seem this about confirms it. No chance of a continuation from the looks of it. A pity.

Yeah, but it seemed like he didn't feel anything in the first place, rather then thinking better of it and restraining himself. He got a litttle antsy with Sea-sensei, after all, and I don't think he wanted to.

That's horrible, apparently(can't read). Put this one next to Phantom Quest Corp. in the "shouldn't have died" file.
It's actually pretty short. I pushed it through babelfish and got this.
News of present ---
"To be, end. "
So I guess no more eh ? :(
I wanted to see more comedy between Sae-Sensei and the Blonde girl.
No more BPS? That's sad. I love BPS. I was looking forward to see more of it too. ;_;
Grifis
OK, a couple of things. The child in the phonebooth is the person who is hireing BPS's feelings about not being able to tell anyone about the 'injustice' he was seeing.
AND SECOND. I am a hardware hacker (yes, there are many different classes of hackers). I loved every time he started doing anything techinical. The way they completely respect computer hackers. I use almost all old hardware when I work. I would take a pentium 3 over anything I could get these days. I have seen a well wrighten C program ( an old computer language ) on a pentium 2 computer beat the hell out of a java ( one of the newest and popular programming language ) program running on an amd64 machine. There is a demand for anime like this out there. I cant believe that im the only one out there that really craves a good computer related anime. The only ones that I can even think of is Chobits ( Ok, good consecpt but a little too short on the design) Hand Maid May ( I actually really liked this one, Most of all I liked that the guy was soo decidecated to his work) and A.I. Love You ( Good from the programming perspective, but I didnt like the OH MY LIGHTENING HIT MY COMPUTER AND NOW I HAVE A GIRL FRIEND, LALALA). Does anyone know of any other good computer anime?

i think BPS is the only 1
w00t! they totally should carry on making episodes for that!
So is this show some kinda pedophile manifesto or something?
I only watched the first episode and skimed through the rest, but it seems to be about an old guy, and a bunch of lolita's that hangs around him calling him uncle? wth?

i'm down to the last two mini eps but i have a feeling noting will get resolved.
Will shirase end up with a loli? dun dun dun!
I finished watching. Ack so the two new love interests of shirase and niece are brother and sister. That's rather boring and obvious how that will end.
i was surprised to find that this anime wasn't very old.
It looked old even the subs were yellow (yellow subs ussually means old right? :) )
