View Full Version : MOOs and MUDs?
Who here plays MOOs or MUDs? For the uninitiated, they are multiplayer text adventures where you can chat, (in the case of a MOO) create interesting objects, or (in the case of a MUD) slay monsters.
You can check out some of my stuff on my favourite MOO; here's how:
1. From the Windows "Run..." dialog or the Linux terminal, type telnet lambda.moo.mud.org 8888
(In Windows, make sure to enable "echo local text" or whatever in the Telnet options)
2. Once you get to the main screen, type connect guest and accept their conditions
3. Type open door to get out of the closet.
4. Type go north to enter the Entrance Hall.
5. Type look mirror and hang on tight!
6. Type go up to climb the stairs. Now you're in the hotel lobby.
7. Type go 63, and you're in my room!
Try looking at me, my T-shirt, the brownie, the slide, the scenery, or read the memorandum... heh, it would be cool if someone else here played LambdaMOO-- then we could link our rooms together. How about a MUD? Check out http://www.mudconnect.com/ for a listing. (I don't particularly like MUDs, the amount to which they role-play is pretty scary.)
so sorry to trouble you, any website that can introduce to me about this thing u're talking about
No problem, here's an introduction to LambdaMOO:
http://www.gotham-city.net/lambdamoo/#Intro
Note that the statement "LambdaMOO is sort of like a chat room" is so much of a simplification that it's basically wrong.
I just discovered the LambdaMOO RPG, and it's really awesome.
It's lambda, by the way.
Funny thing is, at work, we use MUSH (same as a MUD or MOO) as a sort of chat room for employees in different locations around the country to push work off on each other. There is no game, of course but you can still create objects, and there is the "special" mirror, too. Kinda a bizzar work environment.
I played Legond of the Red Dragon for 10 minutes or so once. Just never got into the whole MUD thing.
EDIT: What anime girl is drawn on the wall? :)
I played Legond of the Red Dragon for 10 minutes or so once. Just never got into the whole MUD thing.I once started playing a MUD that advertised itself as the "most realistic MUD ever". It was really freaky; nobody ever acted out-of-character, and they were all deadly serious about role-playing. I felt like I was in some sort of cult. I left abruptly as soon as I had no more commitments.
But I've found LambdaMOO to be the coolest thing ever. I don't see why it's been decreasing in popularity; I would never choose Gunbound or something over this. :p

This is a good site to learn about Muds as well as find some, and download clients: http://www.mudconnector.com/
I used to play in the past, but not anymore. Don't really have the time lately to sit down and explore a mud world and go through the leveling process.
Muds.. I used to play muds a lot. Well, I played mainly one named Animud. The server of that mud went down so many times so there are certain years that I wouldn't play at all, and then one or two years later I'd start playing again.
It's funny that you bring this up because I recently downloaded Gmud again to play Animud. My friend said that the server is back up. ^^ I'm going to check out LambdaMOO.
I used to play Mu*s a lot too, like Beast Wars: Transformers MUSH at Axalon, but I stopped after several years when I realized how cruel the vets were being to newbies. That was unjustifiable, in my opinion, so I quit and never went back.
Maybe it's changed now, though. I'd be willing to check it out again if I knew where to go.

This is a very strange game O.o* Is it all text base with just a plain little black box w/ text? Or is it like this 'cuz im a guest and dont have an account or something...? I went to the room and it said this.
Suzuran's Room
This is a rectangular apartment. The wallpaper is bright and plaid. A drawing of a cynical-looking girl hangs on the wall. There is the opening of an underground slide in the corner. You can see stars twinkling through the window.
You see an improtant memorandum here.
Suzuran is here.
So what exactly am I suppose to see and do?

Haha, MUDS... it's been so long since I've been on one. (well, seriously been on one to play) I grew up playing on LustyMUD and VikingMUD mainly (and a little bit on... umm... Hyperborea? I forgot the name), but I guess... since I don't really know anyone who plays anymore, it's a lot less interesting...

Type "read memorandum."
muds without pk...ewwWhat, do you particularly like killing people?
It doesn't let me sign up. Weird.. I couldn't do much because I was only logged on as a guest. I tried to sign up and it says it doesn't allow free e-mails. o.o;

Futaba, yotsuba, ha*na*mi!
Yours sincerely, Suzuran
This game is strange indeed o.O* Looks just like alot of reading... eh.. I'll stick with my CS and GB. They are fast, simple, in and out games. Unless im missing something that makes this LambdaMOO so intresting. Please fill me in :D
This game is strange indeed o.O* Looks just like alot of reading... eh.. I'll stick with my CS and GB. Yes, if you do not like reading, I would probably recommend a game that blinks bright lights at you and flashes pretty colors. Or you could watch a nice reality show on teevee. Please enjoy it.
What, do you particularly like killing people?
it's actually something worth trying to do, compared to killing mobs at least.
Well I know it's quite an old topic but I've noticed that there's a screenshot of your room on 4chan here :heh: http://img.4chan.org/b/imgboard.php?res=57388
(hope it won't disappear when you're back online :p)
That was me who posted that ;)
Unfortunately it attracted a lot of typical manly man /b/ commentators and they posted their usual rubbish.
Well you shouldn't except better from /b/ people... :/
At least nobody said 'omg it's Rei' (well I'm not sure actually since I didn't look at the topic for a while...)

Actually we never went down for more than a month. We had a few forced
server moves as server companies went out of business. The major problem
was that I had never gotten the domain name. We are now located at
www.animud.net / animud.net 6666
In case you were interested :thinker:
Suzuran Is sleeping.
Is there a wake up command? :heh:

I go through phases in playing Mu*'s, I used to play them daily then just stop, maybe a few months later pick them up again...
Last active MUD I was on was AnimeMUD2...I should go see if I am still there.
