Anyone got any info on the Metal Gear Solid 3 for PS2?

...I personally won't like it because...

1. Based mainly on action? I loved the characters in the other games, MGS was DIFFERENT... while i didn't like the constant interuptions... but that was something which could of been fixed and improved!

2. No confirmed women. No Mei Ling, Naomi, Meryl, Rose... none of them. not even a new woman.

3. they're getting TOO fancy.

well, you can always go to some sites with info:

www.gamespot.com - Great place for previews (sometimes)

www.ign.com - Well you've been here before right?

www.gamers.com

I have only played Metal Gear solid 1 and it was great, but i have no idea about MGS2 nor 3.

Well,I can say that this is going to be a great game like the previous ones,
having to play in many different type of action style and environment in every new series and it is definately worth the money to buy it!!
Well, have to wait for part 3 for now......

Watch the 12 min long trailer (http://jpn01.konami.co.jp/movie/mgs3/mgs3_e32k3_e.asf), it says pretty much about Metal Gear Solid 3 - Snake Eater (http://www.konamijpn.com/products/mgs3/english/home_index.html).

MGS3 is a prequel to the other MGS games. From what I heard, it's a redux of the original Metal Gear (not "Metal Gear Solid", just "Metal Gear") that took place in the 60's-70's age during the Cold War (when there was a Soviet Union) and the time Big Boss was still alive. This is an "origins" game that will probably lead to something that happens after the incidents in MGS2, but Hideo Kojima only said that it is a "back to the origins"game.

Alot of rumors on forums and such say that the character you're playing with is Big Boss, but all Kojima said was "His codename is Snake, that's all I say.".

Who knows..

yah man... that's what I'm sayin! everyone and their mom knows that Snake/Liquid/Solidus are all clones of Big Boss... so I'm pretty sure that Big Boss looks exactly like Solid Snake... so yeah... my bet is that in this game, you are using Big Boss... and not the Solid Snake that we normally use...

I don't like prequels though... I just wish that they continued on with the whole patriots thing instead of doing a "back to orgins" game.... MGS2 was very un-satisfying... damn Raiden ruined it with his pansy voice and his general crappiness.......

I hate people who get pissed at MGS2 solely because of Raiden.

IMO, MGS2 was more of an experiment. It showed how the story could be told through a different perspective, and also allowed more characters to be introduced. Raiden's background was a little intrusive, and his playtime may be too much, but I still was fine with the game.

People get all bitchy when the style changes in a game... I'm sure Hideo Kojima decided it this way himself, and like it or not, I think he pulled it off great. Normally something like that (adding a new main character, subplots, etc, etc) don't work so well in anything. (Whether it be movies, games, or even books.)

I hope most of you guys are not doubting the brilliant mind of Kojima. From the latest news, pics and movies i've seen about MGS3..this game is gonna rock. Perhaps this game would be pushing the limits of the PS2 with all the different modifications hideo is doing on the game. I mean...its all about the CAMO!! just wait till u see the demo for the game....

I can't believe I found out about his soo late. It is definately the best trailer out for MGS3: Snake Eater. It starts off with the signature green preview splash screen and goes into the betrayal of "The Boss". The story of how the nations were seperated after the second world war follows. It then leads into an awesome new theme that sounds oddly familiar (maybe it's a remixed theme).
The trailer also brings along a preview of some of the new bosses to come. Most people I know like the new bosses although some people think they are wierd (The Pain - controls bees?). Most of the new bosses look great though. The Sorrow reminds me of Psycho Mantis quite a bit. Maybe it is some plot twist that "The Sorrow" is Pycho Mantis before he became what he was in MGS. In the trailer he appears to have psychokinesis. When he floats out of the water he bears a remarkable resemblence to Psycho Mantis. I'll leave the other bosses for you to see... There's a reference to the guy on the toilet (Johnny Sasaki) in the preiview. He was in MGS1 and MGS2. In MGS1 he was the guy that you see through the vent near the DARPA chief on the toilet. Also got beat down by Meryl and stripped butt-naked. He also guarded Snake when you had to break out with ketchup. In MGS2 he was harder to find. You had to bring out that mic. and point it at a certain wall (don't remember where at).

Here's the link to the trailer: Right Click Save (http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_mgs3_tgs_2k4.wmv)

In case you don't know, the demo of MGS3 is out.

One thing I found interesting in the demo (the voice is in Japanese) is that "The Boss" is voiced by Inoue Kikuko.

I am a very big fan of MGS and I probably will buy sooner or later. MGS2 was very good game with nice graphics and fun gameplay. Storyline was a bit weird this time though. MGS1 for Playstation had a better storyline than the MGS2. And don't even get me started about mgs for nintendo and snes. :D

Oh and the conversation with Snake and the Col. when you pick Snake vs Monkey mode is priceless XD .

Just start a new game and select it...be faster than me telling you :heh: But if I must...don't read this if you don't want to try it yourself first:

You start the game with the "mask" on. I picked it first and thought Hideo had switched in y'know who again for snake. After a few minutes in the game, Zero radios you and tells you to take the mask off. Then they show this hilarious over-the-top scene of Snake taking off the mask. I mean he's bathed in light, all the scene needed was a "Hallelujah Chorus". Feel sorry for anybody who picks that option the first time they try playing. Though it makes that scene where the soldier calls Snake a "pantywaist" a lot funnier.

MGS2's storyline was the quite possibly the worst I've ever seen in a game, especially near the end.
Just because the Patriots make incredibly ridiculous claims, doesn't make them true. If it is true it's crazy though, imagine it's just superstitious "cloak-and-dagger" crap they were feeding Raiden.

Picked it up today, very fun game. Still trying to get used to the jungle environment, finding it much harder than the previous games trying to get by enemies without using force. Soooo many cutscenes, feels like Xenosaga at the moment. Very good story so far, sucks you right in. Still haven't been able to grab someone from behind, they always hear my footsteps :frustrated:. Guess I need more practice :p.

Funny moment about an hour and a half into the game:
After Snake defeats Ocelot and all his guards if you knife Ocelot to death the game ends and you hear the major telling Snake hes changed the future and created a time paradox! Thought that was pretty funny.

Are you using the directional buttons? The analog stick is for normal movement and the buttons are for sneaking. Sneaking takes up a little stamina (I think) but makes it alot easier (though you move slower than the average soldier's pace so you gotta be creative in ambushing them. Once you get really good w/ CQC you can take on whole groups with just a knife). :heh:

LOL I didn't even think to try that!

So far the radio conversations have all been pretty good (though the Major's voice seems a little bland). Para-Medic's fanaticism on old (but in the timeframe of the game - current) bad flicks (particularly the sci-fi/horror ones) has been pretty funny. Also radioing her to ask about food is pretty funny as well, the "weapons expert" though hasn't been particulalry interesting though.

On my fourth boss fight now, gotta say the difficulty curve seems a little off whack. First boss (Ocelot) is a bit difficult if you're not careful, next two (the Pain and the Fear) were way too easy, and fourth (the End) isn't much harder but he's time consuming (though that makes it more interesting since it's a "sniper" battle). Also he has a "cheap shot" that if he gets "point blank" behind you, he knocks you out and puts you in a jail cell and you have to go all the way back to fight him again.

About The Fear
Oh man was he annoying. Had a couple fights where I barely did anything to him and then I started to throw rotten food and put claymores down by the food so he gets stomach sickness and blows up. I get him down to 10% health doing this while I had full health and then he jumps to the ground and punches me into the deep mud which kills me instantly since I landed in it on my back :frustrated:. Also I had missed the thermal goggles. I thought the rifle would be the best choice of weapon since I could spray bullets in the trees and thought I had to of hit something but once I started using the shotgun he was a piece of cake.

About interrogations
I love doing these, got some weird bits of info though. One guy mentioned what the frog dolls are called but didn't say what they were for, another mentioned frequency 141.31 but I got no response when I tried it. Also got the password JEHUTY but there were no doors to use the password on that I know of where I got it. Hope I figure out the purpose of everything soon :p.

You thought The End was Time consuming? Took me like 15 mins to beat him. Hint use the MIC. Well it was his fault after I shot him once in the hills he ran down in front of me where I shot him from 4/5 life to about 1/10 of his life. Don't ask me why he ran in front of me. Well all the bosses are easy. Pain is way to easy. The Fear is easy all i did was stand on this one branch, and have my AK pointing at a branch Fear jumped on after he jumps to two other trees, where he can't hit me from, and when he landed on that branch I was aiming at I could do 1/4 his life. The Fury is way to simple I knifed him to death thats how easy he is. The Sorrow is really boring if you don't want to walk through pointless crap just drown yourself and take the pill.

Warning I beat the game and this has major spoilers in it.

Did anyone make it to where you fight The Boss, and she asks you to shot her, if you wait long enough will you get a different cutscene then if you shot her or do you have to shot her? Also does anyone know why Ocelot didn't tell you he was Adam did it work out better he dosn't tell you. Just seemed weird he didn't tell you, also why do you tell Ocelot your name is John instead of Jack when he asks your name. Anyways great game, Ocelot is the coolest character ever. I think i will play this game again to just answer the questions i just asked.

Lightly hold circle to grab w/o slitting their throats. I kept slitting them too at first, but I've gotten really good at it now. Swear I love taking out whole rooms now w/ CQC, hope they keep it in the fourth one (no matter who the hero is of a fourth one - just have them magically learn it for all I care :heh: ).

No matter if you think his "battle" is lame or not (I though it was cool, but it's like any puzzle, once you know the answer it's lost it's magic), you have to give it up for him as a strange form of comic relief in the game. Be sure to press R1 everytime you get a chance in the cutscenes especially near the end of the game, never know when he'll be floating around trying to give you "hints" :heh:

Don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but if you plant tnt in the provisions warehouses (where the enemy stores food) and blow them up you can really agonize the soldiers in that area. :heh: Especially funny to hear the soldiers complaining to each other. "Oh God! Feels like I haven't eaten in days!"

The End.....the boss not the ending
Great fight, has got to be the longest boss fight I have ever done I took sooo freakin long. Also went for the tranq rifle he gives and the moss camo but I screwed up and didn't hold him up right...held him up about 5 times but didn't know I had to get a response from him until the end at which point I said screw it and put a few tranq shots into his ass.

The Fury
This was a boss? Easiest boss for me so far.

THE PART WHERE YOU PLAY AS RAIDEN FOR 20 HOURS
Ok...now that ive freaked out everyone who hasn't played yet, the part where you play as the Raiden lookalike for a little while was great. Being able to beat the crap out of guards and instead of them shooting you they thank you lol. The part where Volgin figures out your not him was weird...liked the lightning bolt on Raikov's thong as well. Anyone else catch the frequency to open the cell door after you are captured? Its shown during the cutscene where Volgin grabs your balls...er if Snake has balls. The other Snake's lack the ability to reproduce. Got a kick out of the minigame in the jailcell about Dracula and being able to fork Johnny to death after he talks about his wife and kid. Is there any way to use the sleep inducing smokes to get out of the cell? So far Ive got out with the frequency and by puking, not sure if there is any other way.

Some questions about the ending (MGS2 spoiler as well)
Wowow great ending, just about everyone that lived had a great twist. Curious what has become of EVA though when she returned to China with the fake philosophers legacy. I don't remember her face being one of the patriots during MGS2, since she was a member of the philosophers which later changed their name to the patriots. Also you learn in MGS2 that the patriots all died over a hundred years ago so how is she a member? Also the real ADAM and EVA were both men so if Ocelot is ADAM who is the real EVA? Can anyone make it clear what side Ocelot is on, mentioned he was triple crossing and I was just like huh? Who was the guy Snake refused to shake hands with? How is Snake going to get the red wine stains out of the carpet? So many questions but was alot better than MGS2.

The ending's completely blows me away.

Eva's a Chinese agent? The Boss was actually not a traitor but a hero?Wtf? The title Big Boss given by the president? and my God the most important part, who would've thought that Ocelot was a CIA agent and have been triple-crossing the Soviets, and the CIA Director was one of the Philosophers. The story completely caught me off guard. Kojima's a fucking genius.

So basicly,

- The Philosophers Legacy that Eva had was a fake, so the Chinese Government got it emptyhanded
- The US Philosophers branch got greedy so they decided to take the Legacy for themselves, hence they succeeds, leaving the Chinese Philosophers with no Legacy and the Soviets Philosophers only had half of them, but Ocelot will undoubtedly steal it once again in the new established Brezhnev Governtment.
- Ultimately, the US Philosphers branch, with the money they've got from the Legacy, finally changed their name into The Patriots, which we had known in MGS 2. They've completely neglecting their fellow Philosphers branch from China and Russia and started to act on their own. Hence the events of Shadow Moses and Arsenal Gear took place.

and imo from the facts above we can learn one thing, that the US Government are pure evil!! :heh: :heh: :heh:

Think the list Otacon and Snake got during MGS2 was a fake.
As they mentioned, I think it was 4 years after the end of the game, EVA disappeared and was never heard from again. I'm guessing with her inability to procure the real Legacy the Chinese, in their notorious ways with spies, decided to 'retire' her. Sad, for the first time Snake finally got the woman too :P

I just beat it earlier tonight and I was enjoying it greatly, especially going back and doing the 'humane' fighting against the bosses. Sorrow's 'fight' was great, threw me a couple times before I got ticked, started pressing buttons and noticed that L2 worked ;)

I dunno, for some reason I really felt sorry for her and now it makes perfect sense as to why FOXHOUND exists. Jack's life was indebited to The Boss, she was his life and everything he knew...being the one to end her's had to be difficult. This was only compounded after she spoke to him before the fight and after EVA told him the rest of the story. I'd be highly pissed off as well, but sadly the 'offspring' of Big Boss weren't all perfect and they continued on what Jack despised most. I actually liked all the characters in this game, as opposed to the other Metal Gear games, I even liked Oscelot in this one despite me hating him originally. Perhaps it was the youth or integrity he had that changed my opinion of him, that is, until after the credits rolled by. EVA, I liked her because of the mystery surrounding her...was she double-crossing Jack, was she really having feelings for him...or was it all just a mission? Hell, I even liked Para-Medic, her little quips about the movies made me laugh quite a bit, especially with the Godzilla part and the arguement with the Major over Bond ;)

Overall, I really enjoyed the game...need to work through it some more and unlock quite a few more things...hell, I'm missing The End's Mosin still...it took me a good hour to finally work him around....there was nothing like a good sniper fight and that makes every other game pale in comparison :)

The end was the best boss fight by far for me, because its the closest a game has ever gotten to what a real Sniper vs Sniper duel is. Its all about waiting for you opponent to make a mistake.

The End was really easy after I found out a great method for killing him. After you find him (thats the hard part obviously) and are close enough to follow him, after you shoot him put your thermal googles on and just follow his footsteps until he stops and shoot him, then repeat until he dies.

I just beat the game recently myself.... and I agree that this didn't quite feel like a Metal Gear game... but whatever.... the last boss fight with The Boss was damn fun... it was a very nice setting and I liked how the flowers would fly and scatter.... I killed most of the bosses with my trusty tranq gun.... but I liked sniping The Boss with The End's gun... it made getting her camo easier.... it was also great fighting someone who used the CQC... imo... this is the best final boss battle I've ever played in a Metal Gear Solid game...

btw... what's the deal with those snakes on the trees in the final stage? I gatted them but I never got anything.... not even food...

I just finished this game too.

There aren't enough phrases of high phrase, modified with matching profanity to describe how utterly well-done the entire ending is. Absolutely amazing. From a major villain to a tormented hero--that's Big Boss. It was tragic, yet inspiring--and wow. Just wow.

I also loved the bike chase, the boss fight with The End and the scenes with the Boss before and after her final battle. And who could forget Ocelot?

At the risk of losing some manliness points, I have to admit--my eyes became a bit watery during the ending. And that's something, since I don't even cry during movies. But man, it's just that I've never seen anything so well-done in a game in my entire life before.
As for some of the questions that were raised...

With regard to the Patriots, I believe those who died out were simply replaced by succeeding generations. Perhaps only a few members exist, or only a few knew they existed and what kind of power they wielded. I really don't know.

I believe that the identity of the real EVA wasn't meant to be revealed. It's one of those mysteries that Kojima and co. like to toss around. Others have suspected that the real EVA was Granin; some even suspect that it was Raikov.

And as for other ways of getting out of the cell--I think you can trick the guard by using your death pill.

after playing for 15 hours, personally i think its a GOOD game but an UTTERLY SH!T metal gear..
For me it was Metal Gear Ray. The fact that Raiden blows away multiple Rays is enough to convince me that it sucks. Then again, I guess it wasn't supposed to be heavily armored, and perhaps it's strength lies in an underwater environment.

This game was absolutely great! The Boss was one of the best boss fights ever!

Does anyone one know what are those green frog dolls that appear throughout the game? Do I have to find them all to unlock something?

There are 64 frogs throughout the entire game... if you shoot them all... you will be rewarded with the stealth camo at the end of the game... you can find all the frog locations from the Metal Gear Solid 3 (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/36777.html) section of Gamefaqs....

I personally couldn't be bothered... as I tend to play these MGS games once only... strictly for the story... the frogs were scattered in a lot of areas and I personally can't find the time to search them all... :p

Aside from you guys being able to get MGS3 early and the voice acting being in English, what is the difference between your version and the one that I have reserved (Japanese version) that will go on sale next week?

Think the Japanese and American versions are the same (minus the voice acting), only version I remember hearing as being different was the PAL version since they have to wait like another 6 monthes or something for a release.

I don't think theres going to be that big of a difference. Some people(Including myself but I think the voice acting is just fine.) who believes the english voice acting isn't to their liking Just want to play the game with the Japanese seiyuu.

There's all the really cool stuffs that the LE of MGS 3 JPN comes with.....

http://www.konamijpn.com/products/mgs3/japanese/pic/topic_2004_1005_01.jpg

The cover art's better too.

About the voices, I can't really find any faults with the English voices though. Every VAs was into their roles though they could be more dramatic with the game over cries of "Snake ? Snake ? SNAKE !!!!" like what they did in MGS 1.

I'm planning to get the JP release of MGS 3 even though I have the US release, it will be refereshing to hear all the characters in their Japanese voice after playing the previous 2 instalments of MGS in English.

They need to start doing reversible covers on these games, I like the cover art on the US release but that one looks alot better.

Only VA's I remember having a problem with were the Pain and the Fear who both sounded like they were going for something very cheesey/cartoony and needed to tone it down a couple notches.

Nobody's stopping you from importing the entire package from Japan.....which will set you back by around $200-$250

The problem I see about Companies not wanting to release LE version of games in the US is the people are pften too cheapskate to foot out $150 for all the extra stuffs on top of the game. More often then not, they claim that those extras are "useless".

In Japan though, the harcore fans will not think twice about buying LEs when they have the cash, such is their undying devotion to their craft.

I'd like to say I think the voice acting in the English version is crap compared to the one of the Japanese version. Especially the voice of snake... *shudders* Of course this is just my opinion.

Dammit, I HATE this, everybodies all excited over MGS 3 and I wanna play it too.

However,
I live in Holland, and the rule most gameproducers use is: first in Japan, 3 months after that in America 3 months after that they release it in Europe.

Why??? Who knows??
but probably because those Germans and French want it translated in their own languege. And because of that we Dutch people have to wait until they decide to release the uk-version or the european version AND because of the BRILLIANT invention of PAL we can't inmport it from America either.

I WANT MGS 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
(it looks so damn good!)

I seem to have lost the ability to grab. I have just been through Volgans torture and I'm now trying to escape the base. But for some reason I can't grab enemies anymore? When I press the circle button, it just punches. It is really irritating me. Have I done something wrong to make this happen, or do you think my game has a fault. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Please help me. :frustrated:

Nevermind, it's working again now...
