Who has the best translation?

I normally watch 2 or maybe 3 different translated versions of naruto, i always dl the 1st one thats out , and then there is a certian subber that i like to dl from , and then i watch another version at a friends house sumtimes ... but doing this so many times me n a few friends wonder who is the closest at translation , especially after the hole "you will be hokage tomorow" arguement going on. There is always minnor differences in each subb. So if there is anyone on this board that speaks japanese or can fallow it , or just knows the answer to my question, please let me know. I am not here to diss or praise any subbers, juss want to get the best naruto i can get, :)


I read the rules and i'm not saying any names of subbers i like or i dont like here , but if your not allowed to say who also has the closest in translation , i understand and then u can juss delete this thread

I'm a korean and since Koreans were taught Japanese during the Japanese occupation of korea, everybody was taught to speak and write Japanese in my family (except for me and my sister). I've been taught a little by my dad (works with Japanese ppl....personally, i think he speaks better japanese than english) and my grandmother and the conclusion from my point of view is that Anbu-Aone is a very word for word translation. They use unnecesaryly hard words (not that there is anything wrong with that) and they make the everyday language turn kind of formal. On the other hand, Baka is more lenient and much more like a normal conversation. Problem is still with the difference in Japanese way of talking and english.

Well i dont want to go too much into detail but as of the fansubbers that are doing it CURRENTLY - I say Baka fansubs have the more lenient and common language translation. However if you want the EXACT word for word translation, go with the Anbu-Aone. Personally though, I think TW used to be the best. Too bad they dont do it anymore.

I agree, I think Anbu - AonE has the best one even though they use harder words. I liked Baka, but I still think TW did the best.

Probalby not...they're just a bit slow with their releases...

They're probalby more focused on their manga projects then they are on what i think they're only anime project...

Well I'wouldn't say Ambu-AOne is NOT the most word for word translation..But there is also a lack of concern about the Japanese culture, but thats my opinion. I think they also try to Americanise Naruto too much like if it was Dub. Sennin does not meen Hermit but its the way it is translated in old samurai movies for example. I think the Bakasan script is the most original one. It feels more like you actualy dont read the sub and you just assimilate the story with no flashy font and funny translation. Hail to Bakasan!! keep it real!!! ^^

TW was by FAAAAAAAAAAAAR the best.. I have every single episode that they have subbed.. And if they continue to do the anime, I will replace each episode I have with theirs when it is released.

I think their entire subbers department quit or got busy with school, so put Naruto on the backburner. I was upset because theirs were so good in comparison to the others that were out.. Then they magically stopped at EP 48.. Took them like 3 months to get 49 out. I wouldn't mind waiting a full week for their releases because of just how good they were. It'd be nice if they started again and caught back up. (Which will probably never happen)

they stopped at like 39. they released 40-47 in spurts. I dont like the XVID encode, so i am a Pro-ANBU-AonE fan.

well... lets see. Anbu Aone translates to make sense, not necessarily to stick to the literal translation. it is really a nonissue with me...

then again, i dont take that much notice of the exact wording :)

just whatever looks the best to you. you have to take each subber's translation with a grain of salt.

Bakasan does the best job in my opinion, especially for a one-man show. I like direct translations the best cause after watching as much anime as I have... you start to learn japanese, its kinda scary sometimes.

ohhh man i wish i had that scary problem and actually learned some japanese out of spending hours into anime :/, my mind completely blocks out the japanese and concetrates on the subtitles.

As for the thread topic, TW was the best but they got just a lil bit slow lately :D

Bakasan to get the fix, then ANBU to keep in my collection :)

that is pretty much how i am every1 ..hahah.. bakasan is always 1st out prettymuch so there is my fix..and then i always dl ANBU becuase i always liked his translations ,, i was just curious to who actually was close, ...ANBU always seems to make more sence then the others IMO

ohyea.. what does seenin mean then ?? i always heard that saanin is like.. shinobi..or legendary ninja...and seenin is hermit , it was just a play on words by naruto , and when jariaya talks about himself being the great frog ninja , it says saanin, and naruto calls him seenin and that is translated as hermit , and this is sumthing that the subbers i have seen all agree on hahaha

but now i'm curious of what the real translation of seenin is

For translation, hard to say. Anbu translates some stuff that I don't think should be everytime, but they usually have it in romaji, then just use the english translation after that. Bakasan does a great job fast, overall, I would have to say TW, but they just take so long :P
