View Full Version : Licensed Transformers: Prime
This series will be hitting the West first - but, in the fullness of time, may well follow another TF series (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=91344) across the Pacific once enough episodes for TakaraTomy's consumption are set for eating...
Transformers: Prime (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Transformers:_Prime) is an in-development series, which will air in the US on The Hub (http://hubworld.com/) in late 2010. (Dunno yet who's gonna air it here in Canada.)

As you can see, there'll be an adorable pony some dog thing a very Bayformer-like Bumblebee in it.
Oh, and Jeffrey Combs (http://www.jeffreycombs.com/) will be voiding Ratchet! Yayness.

I enjoy the movie designs but they are really over exposed. I'm really tired of looking at the same old Camero Bumblebee over and over again. I hope this is not true or not the final design. I want some fresh designs...
Looks like the host network in the US, The Hub, will start (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-news-rumors/298299-hub-opens-up-10-10-10-a.html) on the 10th of October.
I'd say it's not a far-fetched guess to imagine this series' premiere taking place during that week?

“Transformers toys, for example, can't air within or adjacent to the "Transformers" show due to government restrictions. The same goes for other Hasbro-branded programs that also have products to advertise at retail.”

Probably due to the show itself being taken to be a 23 minute commercial for the products. Plus the government bureaucracies have to get their regs in there to protect little kids from the "evils of big corporate capitalism", because otherwise there'd be little to justify their existence...

So you're telling me that the government has decide to enact a couple of ridiculous laws preventing corporations from deliberately targetting kids because the parents have decided to emasculate themselves by giving into their kids' every demand?
This is stupid, toys are meant to be played and as such they are aimed at kids. If this was say the deliberate junk food advertising, it would be understandable. Not to mean I don't find that any less of a idiotic moral panic since you can get a kid to grow out of Maccas phase by giving them 'le gasp' healthy, tasty food. The worse here, is that you waste your money on giving them something to enjoy. And keep in mind, you have the damn money.
So kiddies, want Optimus Prime? Work for it!!

Frank Welker's on board (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-prime-39/frank-welker-is-in-transformers-prime-169744/), too.
Dunno who he's gonna voice, though - but if he's not Megatron, I'd be surprised if he wasn't Soundwave.

A little educated guess here, but the guys in charge of the Transformers universe fiction will probably classify this show's universe with the "Tyran Cluster"(aka cluster of "TF universes" where the TFs are all bayformer-esque) in the Transformers multiverse (http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Multiverse).

Actually considering this game is being released tomorrow there's evidence to the contrary. Would be nice to see a trailer of the TV series.

Hopefully there will be more info at BotCon (http://www.botcon.com/BotCon10/) this weekend.
Also, after reading the also-recently-released Exodus novel, I'd be very surprised if they weren't trying to set the context for this show in that book (and in the WfC game)...
Okay, so:
There's a big statue of the new Optimus Prime (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-prime-39/transformers-prime-optimus-prime-revealed-170253/) at this year's SDCC.
Also, there's gonna be a Masterpiece Rodimus Convoy (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/generation-1-1/masterpiece-rodimus-convoy-confirmed-170251/), YEAH! (I'd probably be the only one posing him alongside Figma Rin, though...)

It disturbs me that we don't see Starscream, or any of the other Decepticons, or Starscream... Just Megatron and putties "Decepticon Troopers". Obviously those guys are so the good guys get to kill destroy Decepticons on a weekly basis without traumatizing the rug rats watching...
Still, assuming they do give Megatron some other Decepticons to work off of, the castings of Cullen and Welker (to voice Megatron?) have me interested...
I think the pics at SDCC were meant to show some of the characters inbound; I'd bet that the likes of Starscream will be in the new show sooner rather than later.
A new site update (http://www.hubworld.com/transformers/shows/prime); with a few 'new' character designs (such as Bulkhead and Soundwave) and...
...um...
...hopefully a little more in the future?
Yeah.
They've certainly got the description kiddied out pretty good though if "a certain element" is referring to Dark Energon, the game was definitely a lead in. It might surprise.

This week sees the release of an 88-page prequel graphic novel (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Transformers:_Prime_%28comic%29) for Transformers: Prime.
http://tfwiki.net/w2/images2/1/11/PrimeGraphicNovel.jpg
Despite the picture on the front cover, the GN's story will more prominently feature Cliffjumper (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Cliffjumper_%28Prime%29)... who, in the show, will be voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson!
Oh, and so far as the other confirmed cast members (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformers:_Prime#Cast) go:
* Adam Baldwin - Breakdown [2]
* Steven Blum[3] - Starscream
* Jeffrey Combs - Ratchet
* Peter Cullen - Optimus Prime
* Tania Gunadi - Miko Tezuka
* Ernie Hudson - Agent Flower[2]
* Dwayne Johnson - Cliffjumper[4]
* Josh Keaton[5] - Jack Darby[2]
* Sumalee Montano - Arcee[2]
* Daran Norris - Knockout [2]
* Andy Pessoa - Rafael "Raf" Esquivel
* Markie Post[5] - June [2]
* James Remar -
* Kevin Michael Richardson[5] - Bulkhead [2]
* Gina Torres -
* Frank Welker - Megatron
So yeah, the GN is kind of fun; it'll be released as separate issues in the New Year, if you prefer a regular comic size.
Also, so far as the show itself goes, we seem to have an airing date for the U.S. premiere! (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-prime-39/transformers-prime-black-friday-premiere-170781/) (No idea who's carrying the show up in Canada, though...)

Just finished watching the first two episodes of the five part miniseries. Very interesting take on the series.
Pretty interesting episodes to say the least. It seems they are combining elements from the live action film,some of the animated series,and the current the current game. Really enjoyed the first episode, though I did not expect there would be a casualty in Cliffjumper. They are using element of the War for Cybertron dark energon, which plays a part in the second episode. This is going to be an interesting show to watch.
The show does have a lot of promise so far, I have to say.
I wasn't expecting poor ol' Cliffy to end up like that, either. Ouch.

Very true. In actuallity, both the Transformers and GI Joe shows that were shown today were pretty good.
I did not expect Cliffjumper to be killed of on the first episode. What also caught me by surprise was that Ripcord from GI Joe was appearently killed off on the first episode too.

Yeah, killed x2. Cliffjumper must not be a well loved character. :heh:
The thing I would say about that is how different you might look at it if you read the prequel graphic novel before watching the show.
There, Cliffjumper and Arcee are the lead characters; indeed, the story shows their initial arrival at Earth. I was surprised to see what happened to Cliff, but without the GN I would have had less of an investment in the guy.
So, parts 1-5 have aired; the rest of season 1 should start in February.
Man, this show is good. Really good.

I don't know Nerroth but they got Steve Blum doing Starscream! Who'd a thought the voice of Spike would be doing Starscream?
Loved the prequel and can't wait for the series to start up! G.I. Joe wasn't half bad either, kinda reminded me a little of the old 'A-Team' in a way.

I think Miko is very annoying...the other two were ok.
I thought the five part mini were really great. I especially enjoyed the dark atmosphere and story flow. I enjoy all the Transformers and I thought Starscream was really well done. Not liking Bumblebee's childish sounds though.
I'm kinda disappointed that Cliffjumper voiced by The Rock was nothing more than a over hyped cameo. He was cool while he lasted.
Looking forward to the rest of episodes!

Gotta say, I was questionable about Steven Blum as Starscream. He's a great VA, but G1 Starscream is one of the iconic voices of all time. But he does a great job of taking the differences between this Starscream and G1 Starscream and finding his own niche. I loved the "Clean that up!" line, because it so succinctly encapsulates the character, but I think his best scene was when he was berated by Megatron for acting on his own, because that exchange could have been taken word for word from a G1 episode without skipping a beat, yet worked just as well in the new setting. Ahhh... It's so good to have some semblance of the real Starscream back...
Speaking of back and not missing a beat, I just about cried hearing voice acting god Frank Welker voice Megatron again. The most glaring error in the live-action movies was the stunt casting of Hugo "Agent Smith" Weaving in a role where he sounds nothing like himself or the original role. No one growls the R's in "Starscream" quite like Welker as Megatron, and if those two are going to have something resembling their G1 dynamic, that's an absolute damn necessity.
And speaking of stunt casting...Brilliant job of tagging Dwayne Johnson as the brash, cocky, would-be secondary protagonist, only to kill him off for real in the first episode (by Starscream's hand, hee hee)...then tease bringing him back in the second episode only to kill him off for real for real in the second. Genius.

That only works with Beast Wars, Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo shows due to their setting.
I liked the part in thick of a robot battle in the human perspective.
Also you forget adults are not the main demographic of a mainly toy company up until now.
Transformers without humans would be just war between giants. An innocent race in the middle makes the plot thicker.
There's an interview with Sumalee Montano (Arcee's VA) over at tfw2005 (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-prime-39/interview-with-sumalee-montano---transformers-prime-arcee-171101/).

Starscream is Starscream, no matter what continuity he comes from. His backstabbing and scheming tatics are second to none, but when it comes to ralling the troops there is a lot to be desired. Really enjoyed Arcee's comeback on building a motorcycle and Ratchet attitudes towards the kids.:heh:

This new transformer continuity is awesome, though I get confused due to both hasbro/high moon/and other canon workers of transformers saying that the Prime continuity is connected/the same with War for Cybertron (awesome, if not, the best tf game to date yes :] ). Besides that, good to see the movie writers (Orci and Kurtzman) are as good as they were with the bay movies as well as Star Trek in this show.

Yup, Transformers would be an american/japanese initiative, though that fact is true, still found it weird being in an anime forum. Nonetheless its awesome.
In the latest episode, the characters were talking about Kaon (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Kaon) (a Decepticon city back on Cybertron)... but when they said the name, made it sound like "k-on"!
Ha ha.
Also, hopefully this (http://www.briantyler.com/Site/Home.html) is a glimpse of an OST to come!

old thread, BUT eps 19 & 20 are a real treat for Starscream fans !
I have to admit, if they can keep this up, this might very well be... the first iteration of Starscream that I can genuinely sympathise with. I mean come on... look at those sad puppy eyes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZCp8Qvmgio&t=8m56s)...
The voice-acting is top-notch, the humans are (mostly) not annoying, there's a ton of hidden innuendo for the non-kids watching this, and more importantly... death is an actual threat.
This series is well on its way to joining my DVD collection, along with Batman Beyond, Avatar: The Last Airbender and others.
Cheers.

Giving this a well deserved bumped, as some information just recently came out. According to this Twitter Account (https://twitter.com/#!/TF_pr), which appears to be run by TakaraTomy, Transformers Prime is scheduled for an April 2012 broadcast. No channel or timeslot details have been announced yet though.
Takara-Tomy already have an intro page (http://tf.takaratomy.co.jp/toy/search/prime/special/) for it, but there's not a lot on there either.
While we're waiting for more word on the Japanese edition of the show proper, TakaraTomy aren't shy about getting the toy ads in already:

I don't like the Japanese dub. That "TRANNNNSSSFOOOORRRRMMMM!" that they do is just irksome.
Most of the voices are "meh" to me. Optimus, Arcee and Megatron are easily the best in the series so far.
Starscream's voice, however...
*Shudder*
After hearing Blum's awesome Starscream for two seasons, hearing that high-pitched... UGH!
Latest episode of Transformers Prime was just a recap episode.
Had a funny part at the end though.
It was a nice calm before the storm episode though, and it gave a little more character development for Fowler and the setting of the story. I always thought it was a little odd that Fowler seemed to have a loose leash as a government liaison, but it turns out he doesn't (the unicorn bit made me laugh btw). Some of the information revealed about Mech was new and interesting, which opens up yet another angle for the plot to work with.
I was concerned about the show since the first season was pretty limited in scope, but the second season has been really good. I think they've done a really good job of blending some of the movie feel with the Gen 1 feel, while still retaining a unique style on its own. Especially with Mech reverse engineering Cybertronian technology, and all the other artifacts strewn around the world, we could potentially see the human and Transformer relationship being a little less....secretive.

As for Armada... well...
Starscream must have taken notes from his Animated counterpart about how to deal with Clones. Damn, Blum, that was one CHILLING performance you gave at the end. (Even if it WAS HILARIOUS when you screamed for shooting yourself in the face)

Blum is awesome. ^^ I really like the new Starscream, and the voice acting is just....perfect. The nice balance of menace, calculation, and silliness. :heh: It makes him fun to root for. And Megatron is getting more badass for sure, but I think it's because they have to keep him up to par with Prime who has definitely grown a backbone since the first season.

Tunnel Vision was a great "cloaks and daggers stealth mission" episode that has been long missing from this series.
And once again the Insecticons have become a legitimately threatening enemy that you have to beat with your logic-circuits/brains and NOT your servo-motors/muscles.
That aside:
The Hub has a PRETTY fucked up idea of what a "Family Movie" is, juding by the "Next On The Hub" Preview of this week's episode:
Showing Gremlins 2: The New Batch to impressionable little children ON A SATURDAY MORNING RIGHT AFTER TRANSFORMERS PRIME will traumatize them for life!! :heh::heh::heh:
Spoilers for Triangulation.
Triangulation was awesome. Wow! That Apex Armor was insane!
Starscream goes from the Woobie/Chew Toy to the freaking Juggernaut! Seriously, he was tossing BOTH Dreadwing AND Prime around like they were nothing! Taking their best hits and laughing at them, even one of Dreadwing's bombs on his back couldn't stop him. (And that would've been enough to stop Bulkhead or Prime cold!)
They sank him to the bottom of the ocean, but I knew that wouldn't stop the new Screamernaut. Especially since he was walking on the ocean floor at the end of the episode.
Oh, and once Screamernaut gets back to his base, he can finally put that T-Cog back in his body.
If he can stand to deal with the pain.
Sorry for the double post, but I found this awesomely funny image today.

Makes you think that Soundwave did that to Starscream sometime in the past.

Sheesh! Each episode keeps getting better...
But now they freaking fused Shang Tsung into an Insecticon!

As for Triage, wow, just wow, Soundwave proves that even though he's basically retired from active duty, he can still kick your tailpipes easily. Ratchet proves that intelligence wins wars as much as muscle does.
Poor Knock Out. Bets that he's going rogue next?
The Japanese version has a new OP and ED (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-prime-39/transformers-prime-japanese-dub-second-opening-and-ending-videos-175418/).

It would be nice if the videos themselves weren't just clips from the show with some promo art thrown in...

i havent seen a transformer series since beast wars se1 and se2. i did start watching this series a month ago and it reminds me very much of the animation quality of BW and the story is still very good.

Not sure how long it will take the Japanese dub to catch up.
Season 3 will be this series' last, according to IGN (http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/03/01/transformers-prime-cancelled-canceled-series-ending-with-season-3).
I'm not sure how far in the Japanese dub is at this point, but at least they'll know how much longer they'll be working on bringing new episodes over.
