Except for boy bands, folk music and avant-garde stuff, I am pretty eclectic in my musical taste. Classical music from Beethoven and Handel to alternative rock like
Smashing Pumpkins and Dave Matthews. Golden Oldies from Engelbert Humberdink and Frank Sinatra to Pop music like Avril Lavigne and R. Kelly. I even listen to Christian Rock even though I disagree with their lyrics.

I love rap, hip hop whatever you wanna call it. Rock and punk rock. If you mix

them together, you get music like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. Sweet. Pretty

much anything in rap or rock that has a good beat to it that I like. :heh:

I like Dashboard Confessional, Morcheeba, Straylight Run, The Schuers, Modest Mouse, Jason and Jane, At The Drive In (I hate Mars Volta), Smashing Pumpkins (old skool, yeah!), Black Box Recorder, Butch Walker, Ozma, Coldplay, Darkest Hour, Better Than Ezra, Weezer, Ben Folds, Phantom Planet, Jason Mraz, Outkast, Nas, The Roots, Talib & Kweli, Rufus Wainright, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, White Stripes, Aimee Mann, and many more. Pretty much you can see I'm open to anything as long as it appeals to me.

I don't like the whole rap/rock though. I like Rage Against the Machine though. Dunno, if it falls into the whole rap/rock scene. Maybe the fact I associate anything rap/rock to Fred Durst (mind you I didn't say Limp Bizkit, since the band has talent, just not the singer) makes me not touch it. Even Snoop Dogg, couldn't save that song "Red Light, Green Light" from Fred Durst's horrible lyrics.

Classical music (Bach), good old rock (not limp bizkit, linking park, etc), electronic (psycho), but I think what suits me the best is trip-hop.

Portishead, Björk, Moloko, Zero 7 are some of my favourite bands.

But I'm pretty much varie in taste, I think I can't express what is good or bad for me. It is just that when I hear something I like, I listen it, and that's all.

BTW, ANIME MUSIC OF COURSE!

Gotta love the ol' punk rock.

1) Face to Face - owns all other bands
2) NOFX
3) The Queers
4) Snuff/Dogpiss
5) Bouncing Souls

I could go on and on....

I think Rap as a whole sucks but there are some kick ass rappers out there.

1) Del tha Funkee Homosapien - Check out Deltron 3030 album. This guy is definatly an anime fan.

del i'm feeling like a ghost in a shell
i wrote this in jail playing host to a cell
for the pure verbal, they said my sentance was equivalent to murder
just another hurdle, i bounced through a portal
i knew they had the mindstate of mere mortals
my ears morphed to receptors to catch ya
every word about gravity control
and the families they hold for handsome ransoms
on the run with a handgun blast bioforms, I am more
than a planetwide manhunt with cannons
will make me abondon my foolish plan of uprising
fuck dying I hijack a mech

2) MC Hawkings (Steven Hawking) - Raps about bitches, cronic, and science

3) Kid Koala - Best Hip Hop DJ

When I was a kid, I used to listen to CantoPop a lot, That was probably during the late 80's, early 90's. Then I gradually started listening to stuff like Nirvana during the mid 90's, and late 90's it was all the Offspring, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.

Then I dunno, I gradually moved away from all English stuff, and now am basically back to Chino stuff, along with Japanese and Korean. I'm to the point were no English songs really interest me at all anymore. People often go "oh, did you hear (whatever) song on the radio?" And 9/10 times I'm totally clueless about it. Strange, I know, since I'm CBC, but I guess I'm getting in touch with my roots eh? Currently, I'm listen to a lot of Jay Chou, David Tao, Sun Yanzi, and Elva Siu.

As they come to me:

Verdi, Aphex Twin, Chocolate Genius, Elliott Smith (who recently committed suicide, much to my dismay), Hayden, Jeff Buckley, Julie Doiron, Beethoven, Led Zeppelin, Leonard Cohen, Nine Inch Nails, Rachmaninoff, Radiohead, Portishead, Jim O'Rourke, Chopin, Saul Williams, The Delgados, Tom Waits, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Liszt, The Cinematic Orchestra, Squarepusher, Tori Amos, Rufus Wainwright, Mozart, The Cure, The Smiths, Dead Can Dance, Bjork, The Ramones, (Old) Metallica, Pink Floyd, Michel Portal, Nick Drake, Muse, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Donovan, David Bowie, The Beatles, The Who, Massive Attack, Eric Clapton, and Elgar.

By the by, the "Classical" period in Western (or European) music history only lasted from about 1750 - 1825. This includes such composers as Mozart and Beethoven, but not Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Chopin, Ravel and a good many others. It's inaccurate to lump them all together under the umbrella of "Classical" as this term not only refers to a specific period in history (in which many of them were not composing) but also to some important stylistic and thematic distinctions.

I was wondering if people were still listening to ska anymore. My second show ever was a ska show with Skankin Pickle, Less Than Jake, and Easy Big Fella. Man that was a lot of fun. Seems like I don't see many ska shows anymore, or if it's a ska band it's more ska/punk with almost all of the emphisis on the punk. Not really something you can dance too.

That's because no one these days has an opinion of their own.:( I'm not saying that all the people who listen to all that stuff (which is in it's own right good) get into it to look cool, but millions of people do. And because they get into the whole scene of the music, they brush aside good music because it's "just not cool".

Yeah, KUNKEI FIVE M IS DA BEST! There's no Asian Kung-Fu Generation song that I don't like, Kiva-san. I like them all, but my favorite is Kimi to Iu Hana (like the single version better). Entrance is cool too, look forward to it.

And McGrugg-san, you're right, unfortanely... if someone at least listened to Stairway to Heaven, that's the real, good and ol' rock. Immigrant Song, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused... White Summer, hear Jimmy Page and his magical guitar, he's along with Jimi Hendrix the best guitarrist ever! Gotta  to Jimmy Page :D At least people still likes Metallica (even though St. Anger is horrible, the best Metallica album IMO is Ride the Lightning, and then the classic and most famous Black Album).

If you like Immigrant Song have you seen this viking kittens video yet? http://users.wolfcrews.com/toys/vikings/ As dumb as it is for some reason it still makes me laugh.

As far as what McGrugg was saying; I agree that a lot of people seem to need for MTV or Commercial Radio to validate a band as being cool before they are willing to give them a chance. Not enough people give independant labels a chance and assume that if a band is'nt on a big label or getting media coverage it must be because they're no good. But if you give local or independant bands a chance not only will you find some amazing bands that blow away 99% of commercial music, but you get much more personal feel when you see a band in a room full of say 300 people versus a arena with 30,000 or more. Following independant music has given me the privelege of seeing bands like Blink 182, Sum41, Less than Jake, MxPx, mighty mighty bosstones Dashboard confessional etc. before they hit the mainstream.

But at the same time i'm a selfish bastard who does'nt want to share his music anyways. I long for the days when I could get into the shows for my favorite bands without paying over $10. One of my favorite live bands was Flogging Molly, I go see them once and i'm blown away with how fun it was, then about 2 months later 107.7 The End (that stupid trendy music station MTV's Real World Seattle worked at) plays them and they come back shortly after and the lines are going around the block and I can't get in. But I am happy that at least people recognize their talent once they give them a chance.
