Seriously there was no Gintama manga thread? I searched for it and I couldn't find any so I just decide to make one. If there is one I apologize to the mod.
Anyhow opinions on the newest arc? So far has been amazing and very fun to read. The past story in Otose has been very interesting and seeing the old characters come back has been great as well, it kinda seemed as if some of the side stories were built up for this arc.

Yeah, it sucks that the fans don't show their support here; although I'm more of the lurker type and can't bother with things, I thought a popular series like this would be somewhere next to the big four of JUMP. I'm still dying for the 306 release since the translation is done, I'm also waiting for Toriko as well. Although it had to be done, the free RAWs that were still around made things a lot easier for those who don't know Japanese. I really love this series and so glad I enjoyed it.

I asked the question because isn't it golden week in Japan right now? So I was wondering if that was one of the possibility why there hasn't been any release. Second of no one really wrote anything about where to find the manga's scanlation or translation, so I don't think any of the posts are really ban worthy.

New chapter's out.
So we see Gintoki coming in calmly chatting and joking like the bad mofo he is, tells his two lassies to go back and get the hostage to safety while he and the old man takes care of business by killing everyone in the room, which the old man agrees. In kabuki, everything seems to be hopeless until Otose and suprisingly Katsuo tears down ninjas and made an entrance.

Really enjoying this arc so far but bit strange how Otose just appeared out of nowhere, most likely though she is hiding her injury and trying to show that she isn't hurt. Her speech was good as well, there is always one thing that I loved about Gintama was those simple one line.
Also Kamui or Takasugi appearing wouldn't be bad at all but one thing I am wondering is if Katasura or Shinsegumi will appear.

about katsura showing up i think it would make sense since he probably lives close in kabukicho and he's fighting against the amanto as always for freedom... or he's being chased by shinsengumi in a daily basis.
I really wanted to wait for the anime to be continued, but my Gintama withdrawal syndrome was too strong. I finally gave in and caught up with the latest chapter.
Oh my god, this arc is simply amazing. The chapter where Gintoki finds Otose's body was incredible. I don't think we've ever seen Gin-san that pissed and desperate before, I can't wait to see this animated. It's nice to finally see a bit of Otose's past, and seeing all the old characters lend a hand to the Yorozuya was awesome. I'm sure Katsura is going to show up at some point, especially since it's been a long time since he last appeared. I mean, damn, even Madao is part of the battle. Another thing I loved was seeing Shinpachi kick some ass, I was suprised to see how easily he beat Pirako. Hell, actually I love everything about this arc.
As for the previous chapters, Yamazaki living on Anpan, and the one about the new year cards were hilarious. I laughed so hard at Katsura being on stand-by in his santa costume, I wondered why he didn't show up in that arc :heh::heh:

Ah Gintama, how I missed you. Epic epic chapter. The Kabuki Cat thing was golden, and if I was the kid I would run the hell away from Catherine as well. And damn from Otose "This IS KABUCKICHO!" indeed :). Well should be interesting how this arc will end, most likely there will be a death at least.

Agreed, very satisfying ending to this arc. Gintoki, gets more likable for every end of the arc. The way he finished the battle with Jirochou was very classy. And like I said before Gintama's last line in the dialogues are awesome and this was no exception.

That end resolution between Father and Daughter was very touching. I was in complete tears from that.

I hope you're right. It's just a little scary too see all the major villains appear right after such a big arc. Takasugi~~

Takasugi and Kamui formed an alliance! This chapter was so awesome, especially Takasugi. Now, the both of them are heading for Earth... not sure exactly when they'll arrive. I'm eagerly waiting for chapter 312 to see if it'll go back to the usual comedy or not.
I wanted to re-read the chapter since I was in a rush this morning, but for some reason, I can't find it anywhere now... I wonder what happened.

And about time 310 came out, I was getting really impatient. Thank god for the world cup to take my mind off from it.
But overall very interesting development, and two main antagonist meeting each other something big might happen soon with Gintama. A manga story like Gintama doesn't really have a sign when it is going to end, the final arc could start soon or it could start maybe in next 5 years. So we really can't predict the story.
Where can I read COMPLETE Gintama chapters. Onemanga doesn't have the complete chapters. There are no chapters 79-85 and 134-171. WTF is going on? HELP!!!

Chapter 311 was awesome, and chapter 312 was hilarious. And here I was thinking the Yorozuya guys would get a secret technique to help in their fight against Takasugi and Kamui, but instead it was to attract new sponsors. :heh:

His whole speech about the anime and the means to boost sales was hilarious. As was Zura and the others training... seems like learning the choregraphy of Ring a ding dong! can give you super powers. Kimura Kaela was the true star of the chapter :heh:

I knew it happened because i read spoilers, but seriously those two joining up is not good at all. I can't even begin to imagine what their plan could be once they land on earth. Do wonder though if this plans to be the next arc, or if we'll get something before. If it is the next arc, then you'd expect it to be the last and end of the series, though as we've said Gintama still has a lot of life left. Just gotta see how it'll develop anyway.
Also, this has got to be the most screen time Takasugi as ever had in this series. :heh:

Yeah Kondo was fantastic in this chapter. Still wondering why Otae actually decided to go on a date with him :p, though i'm glad it's finally happened, for his sake.

I almost died laughing when Balmunk and Isaac showed up. I should have seen this coming but I didn't. Kyuubee actually kept Jugem-Juge-- the monkey with her, and his name got even longer!

No new translated chapter but I just stumbled upon spoilers of the new arc. OH. MY. GOD. This is so amazing I just had to post. This is ABSOLUTELY CRAZY!!
Chapter 324 opens with Shinpachi coming back from vacation. He goes back to the Yorozuya only to find that Gintoki looks completely different! Gintoki claims they parted ways two years ago to train, and that they promised to meet at Shabondy Archipelago (yup, he's parodying One Piece's timeskip before it even happens :heh: ). A LOT of things have changed after two years:
Gintoki looks like Yamcha :heh: , and he's become a lot stronger.
Kagura is now a beautiful young woman with huge boobs, she's also become a lot stronger.
Sadaharu is human. Yup, it's that guy in the pic.
Otae, Catherine and Tama all have Sadaharu's face for some reason :heh:
Otose and Kondo are happily married and are awaiting a baby (WHAT).
Shinpachi is so shaken up by these changes that he quits the Yorozuya and enters the Shinsengumi.
Hijikata is now the commander of the shinsengumi. He's very calm and kind. On the other, Yamazaki, now the vice-commander, is a real demon.
Okita has become the emperor, and is planning to conquer the world (universe?). He needs to get rid of the shogun first.
Kyuubei's got a babel tower. Zura, fearing they character would overlap even more now that's she's also got "that", became a woman which of course only made their characters overlap even more since they're now both transsexuals :heh:

i almost peed myself when gintoki looked yamcha, including how he he died and how he lost to bulma to vegeta. it would be interesting if they stay the way they are right now, but something will change it back to the way they were before, the "two year" skip. was chapter 325 released already?

Yeah, Gintoki's flashback was just hilarious. When I think about it, Yamcha is such a sad character... he had it tough in DBZ. Things will obviously go back to normal but I hope this arc will last a few chapters. I love those crazy developments.

It's a good thing Shinpachi is not alone. I doubt he could have managed to get out of this predicament by himself.

I hope Kagura will remain that way as well but it's very unlikely. The raw for 326 is out. As for 327 spoilers, there are none since there is no chapter this week.

Hasegawa has become a singer. His stage name is of course MADAO and his song is titled "The God of the cardboard box"
Hijikata and Shinpachi find out after hitting Yamazaki that the changes were caused by boils/warts aliens (the timeskip never happened, and this explains why Sadaharu, Tama, Otose and Catherine had the same face: they were all deeply infected) and that destroying the wart parasites will turn people back to normal. Thus, they begin their crusade armed with paper fans.
Kagura tries to act all cute to stop Shinpachi, who isn't impervious to her charm. Seeing this, Hijikata tries to hit Kagura but Okita pushes her out of the way and gets hit instead. He turns back to normal, a fake death scene takes place before he loses consciousness; with Hijikata desperetly trying to save him by feeding him mayo :heh:
Afterwards, Tae shows up with a baby named Tougorou. Shinpachi believes it's Kondo's child but Tae reveals the father is actually Hijikata, and sure enough, he's got the same V-shaped hair as him. Things get even crazier after this: Kondo shows up with a baby of his own, claiming it won't lose to Hijikata's. It turns out Kondo's baby was just a doll and he tries to run off with Tougorou... BUT, Zurako shows up with a baby in her arms who turns out to be a baby Gorilla called Goriko, no need to tell you who the father is, heh. Then it's Kyuubee's turn to enter the madness with another baby whose father is Zurako. The name of her baby is Chinkoko and as you can guess, it's a giant penis :heh:
After witnessing this, Shinpachi totally loses it and hits everyone (including Kagura :( ) with his fan. They all fall unconscious and turn back to normal.
Just as Shinpachi is starting to rejoice, someone hits him from behind with a fan. It's Gintoki, who declares that Shinpachi was also a wart. It turns out Gin-san was the only person truly unaffected, his new appearance was just a disguise. After talking over the phone with someone, Gintoki decides it's time to head out...

also i think when the manga get further along they will make a new gintama anime season
The director did say they intended to resume the anime later. So Gintama shall come back, the only question is when?
By the way, is anyone looking forward to Sorachi's one shot "Bankara-san ga tooru" (the title is a reference to this manga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haikara-san_ga_T%C5%8Dru)) which is coming out next week?

Bankara's out. I'll just post my impression here since I don't think it's worth it to create a thread for a one shot. Besides, it's not like the Gintama thread is very active anyway, this might bring some life into it...
That was... awesome! I'm not worried about Sorachi's future as a mangaka, I'm sure he'll be able to come up with another awesome manga after Gintama, this one shot proves it.
I loved the main female lead, she was like a mix of Tsukuyo and Kagura. The other two characters were totally Gintoki and Shinpachi clones but I didn't mind it. The story was as crazy as one would expect from Sorachi: the most evil bancho of all time was sentenced to spend all eternity standing in the hall, he is set free 150 years later in a world where cyberization is common and Cyber-punks are ruling schools with their iron fists (literally). The jokes were hilarious (the sexual innuendo at the beginning :heh: :heh:) and the obligatory Gundam and Dragon Quest references were there.
I wouldn't mind seeing this serialized in a few years. It's got a lot of potential.

Yeah, this is another good one-shot. I never really doubted Sorachi's style. I was hooked since I first read one of his one shot "13"

Just try little more and get the 100& :heh:. Even if Gintama ends if Sorachi keeping making manga like this I will be happy. Though bit sad regarding lack of Gintama scans lately.

The first one was in 2005 the second one was in 2009. Though, I don't know how they do these polls, if they just put it in the issue whenever they want or if it continuous in between those times.

Heck, even on a Polish anime forum (big but not the biggest and of course much smaller than AS) we have a whole sub-forum about Gintama. I think the reason why manga is not that popular is because there are too little images and too much text which for average anime/manga fan is too much. If there were more boobs, panty-shots and fights and less text it's popularity would soar sky-high. With anime it's a bit better since there's less text (for various, obvious reasons) and overall anime is better IMO, thanks to seiyuu mainly.
Anyway, I have no doubt that once we would have a sub-forum, threads and posts would start to appear and anime popularity would also help manga threads but it's still far from it. If only one of the mods/AS site staff was a Gintama fan it would be easier but for now I doubt it.

That too. If it weren't for the slow scanlations, I would have probably read a lot more of the manga. I'm actually grateful I couldn't, I find the episodes a lot more enjoyable when I have no idea what'll happen, like with this week's episode.
I've recently read two Gintama x Sket Dance crossovers. Basically I agree with what Gintoki said here:

I've seen first episode of Sket Dance and it was so boring I've had to watch it in parts. I couldn't do it at one go but I wanted to see at least one episode hoping sth interesting would happen. It was even more boring than Gintama's first episode (after first 4 episodes of Gintama I was considering dropping it but fortunately I've prevailed and after seeing episode 8 I've become a fan).
For a series without much action, where the worst thing that can happen is being painted red dialogues should be witty or funny and characters interesting. Unfortunately Sket Dance disappoints on every step / on all accounts. Gintama from the start had funny dialogues and characters were rather interesting, here we have a guy talking via a laptop (talk about idiotic way to make him recognisable), a girl with a stick (another idiotic theme) and another guy with goggles that he puts on in a times of crisis... It's too stupid for my taste (which might sound funny since Gintama is even more stupid but the difference is I see the author laughing at himself and playing with convention, it is a complete parody with lots of trolling of everything and everyone). Maybe I'm too old or the humour is too refined for my taste but that's what I think. And I have to agree that it's a rip-off of Gintama. Parallels are too obvious and I would compare it to Ninku and Naruto where Kishimoto ripped off so many things that I can't believe he wasn't sued.
When you compare both crossovers you will clearly see that the one written by Sorachi had more funny dialogues and overall was better. Some examples:
Kagura: "For a person with a hockey stick as a weapon, if you have a hammer down there, isn't it easier to club your enemies to death?"
and shortly after: "Don't worry, Bossun will still take you even if you grow a hammer".
Gintoki: "Oi, bitches, cut it out. Don't think you can come and go as you please in this world. This aint's school anymore. This is a world where a drill can come flying outta nowhere and destroy your balls. We call that Friday."
And before you criticize me for criticizing let me remind you that it's a Gintama thread so favouring Gintama over anything here is to be expected. I'm not going to Sket Dance thread to start flame wars.
On a different note, on AN appeared an article about Gintama's (http://www.animenation.net/blog/2011/05/13/ask-john-why-hasnt-gintama-caught-on-in-america/)lack of success in USA.

@Gooral: I tend to agree with you based on what I've seen of Sket Dance so far (the first 8 episodes), but I think it's still way too early for me to form an opinion. Gintama wasn't very good when it started off either, and it took me a full season (26 episodes) to really start liking it. I won't give up on Sket Dance until I've seen as much epsiodes.
Sket Dance is definitely a rip-off (the author isn't hiding it), but that doesn't mean it can't become good and create an identity for itself later on. We should wait and see. I'm certain Gintama will remain the #1 comedy in my heart, however, the setting alone is enough to set it apart, and allows for crazier comedy. The sky's the limit with Gintama.
Oh, and yes, the googles thing in Sket Dance is incredibly stupid (it'd be okay if it were played for laugh, but nope, it's serious), especially with the "I'm floating in space" effect in the anime. Himeko's stick was also pretty dumb. As for Switch speaking with his laptop, I'm waiting for an explanation, assuming there is one.
As for the crossovers, I thought Sket Dance's was pretty funny, but Gintama's was clearly a league above it. The dialogues and the situations were on entirely different levels.
Well, I was bored by Gintama for 4 episodes but never as bad as with Sket Dance. It just didn't hook me enough from the get go but it wasn't sth I had to watch in parts either (as it was with SD). In other words it was an average anime which I could watch if I had nothing better to do. But after seeing 5th episode I started to like it (it was the one with Gin and others delivering a bomb to an embassy, the scene when they found out what was in the package was hilarious), mainly thanks to introduction of Katsura (my favourite character I like him even more than I like Gin). And after seeing 8th episode (http://min.us/mvpjec3#1) I became a fan. There was the most hilarious fight and one of the most hilarious scenes I've ever seen in any anime/manga. And from then it got even better. The most important thing however was that characters were really great. All of them. They were perfectly designed and I liked them from the start. In SD I was annoyed by them from the start.
In short, even after seeing one episode only I can tell that Sket Dance is not anime/manga for me even though it's similar to Gintama. But the differences between them make a huge difference. I'm glad that author of SD has managed to achieve such success and that he has fans but IMO his inferiority to Sorachi is obvious.
I will say this: I've read all available chapters for Sket dance, and 40 chapters for Gintama. While I cracked up in almost every chapter of Sket dance, I barely smiled while reading Gintama - except during the Sket Dance x Gintama crossover. I too am disappointed with the anime adaption for Sket dance so far, but I heard the Gintama anime was hilarious so i watched episodes 1/2 of the anime (which apparently was a filler), which everyone says was boring, AND I LAUGHED. The Gintama manga was so boring a simple "What the hell is that?!" when they introduced Elizabeth got a laugh from me!
So anyway, the point is that its seems like for Gintama its Anime>Manga but for Sket Dance its Manga>Anime.

I was planning to buy the first volume, but found out it was cancelled, so I am not sure if there is any point buying it now, as I would have to switch to reading scanlations after volume 23.

This thing is always better than one piece for me. Balanced funny comedy, epic battles and then followed up by sad/emotional moments.. This manga has everything that I wanted :heh: Except for some character design that I'm not really fond before I actually read the whole series.

Guys, I still think Sorachi is going to end this manga soon. I mean, since the Kintoki arc... No, even before that, with the white shinsengumi arc, this feels like he's railing the manga to its end. And now, after I dunno how many chapters, we have plot related to the war and Gintoki as Shiroyasha. If this is not a sign, I honestly don't know what it is. This is getting less comedy and more serious every chapter we move on.

It looks like Oboro and that old guy are walking away, so this might give Gintoki's group a chance to regroup. And hopefully this is where we see the inclusion of Katsura — if there was ever an arc where he needed to appear, this would be it.

Edit: Oh my god, the Kintoki arc was brilliant. I didn't notice it was Bleach parody until the second chapter. Sorachi took the concept one step further and made it a million times better. It's incredible how Gintama can do both comedy and serious arc better than a lot of series focusing on only one of these aspects.
The current arc is also outstanding. I didn't expect Gintoki's past (or at least a part of it) to be revealed here. Can't wait for the next chapter!
I'm also glad Tsukuyo has been getting so much screentime lately. She's definitely my favorite Gintama girl. Nobume is also growing on me.

For some reason, this arc feels really short even though it is one of the longest arcs in the series. Maybe it is because the arc is so good that I want more. o_o

What I'm trying to say is that I'm getting the same feeling with Gintama, I do think it's going to end 'soon' but it might take another four years.
I doubt Gintama will end too soon since Bakuman just ended. Jump usually tries to stop multiple series ending too close together. I'd say another year at least since I bet we'll have quite a few silly chapters after the seriousness of this arc.

we are getting closer to the ending.
No Zura after all, but instead we got... Takasugi!! His "give my regards to Sensei for me" sent shivers down my spine. Exact same words as Gintoki, but the expression on his face couldn't have been more different.
Two other big surprises in this chapter: Oboro survived and Nobume is revealed to be a Naraku. Former Naraku, to be exact. I went back and read chapter 391 again to check for hints, and noticed there was indeed a big one: she said Oboro's name when she saw him, which surprised Kagura.
Damn, Sorachi is such a boss. He did more in 20 pages than Kubo could ever do with 100.
Chapter 400 is going to be sweet.
my favorite chaacter in the series is Tsukuyo but Nobume is getting close. it seems like she'd quite considerate at the right times and yet so funny when it comes to food and her penchant for violence.
Nobume is growing on me as well. She's shaping up to be a great character.

Gintoki begged the Shinsengumi to wait while he somehow restores Obi-One's consciousness from Kenofi (Kenofi is the robot half).
Meanwhile, Kondou and Kyuubee infiltrate the mothership . They want to stop the beam cannon from the mothership while Kenofi is preoccupied.
It is revealed, however, that the beam cannon cannot be stopped and Obi-One's consciousness cannot be restored.
Meanwhile still, Shinpachi finds out that Gintoki went as far as bowing his head and begging in order to save Obi-One. That's partially why he cut off Kenofi's arm to save Gintoki.
Again, Gintoki in this arc reminds me of Jirochou. They don't mind playing the bad guy in order to save everyone. T_T
406 scanlation is out. The way Gintoki is acting does remind me of Jirochou a bit as well. I enjoyed seeing him play the bad guy.
Hell yeah, Shinpachi about to get BOSS up in here.
Otae team was awesome as well. Next arc we should have Tsukiyo and Sacchan team up.

It really does feel like the series is winding down now. Gin bequeathing his sword to Shinpachi was quite the moment.
However, I doubt Shin won the fight with that strike. He's probably going to receive a fatal blow next chapter from Hajime's attack. Maybe Hajime's human side will be the one to finish the cyborg, since the brief flashback proved he's not totally gone.
With this chapter, Shinpachi has finally become a real samurai. He has never looked this cool before.
The end of this arc is going to be a real tear-jerker.

Katsura arrives at Gintoki's cell but he is soon discovered by enemy soldiers.

The soldiers shoot the intruders (Katsura and Shou-chan) with arrows. Just when Shou-chan is about to be shot, Katsura pushes him away to safety and cuts down all of the arrows.
As expected from Katsura, he is strong.

This chapter was awesome. I seriously fell into their trap too at first, though I started to think something was very off when it was revealed Kagura had a tail (Shinpachi's chest hair was believable to me though :heh: ).
It's good to know Sa-chan will like Gintoki even if he goes bald.

The arc is over. The ending was pretty touching. It's probably one of my least favorite arc in a while though. It was a good but I didn't never got into it for some reason.
Sougo is even more fearsome than I thought. I wouldn't want to be his enemy.
