Hardest at the moment? Ace Combat 6, with enemies spamming missiles and bullets like crazy, and with more flak than downtown Hanoi.

Meanwhile my nephew tries to take on the hardest track -- Dragonforce's Through the Fire and Flames -- on Guitar Hero 3 (which is beyond my current hand-eye coordination ability that I watched with my mouth agape).

It was 1989. It was just me, some gummy bears and alot of Coca-Cola. I spent six hours on one Saturday playing MegaMan 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6v1vypgRnM).

Eventually, I beat it.

To this day, I don't think I ever played a tougher game.

I think I've only ever managed to beat Megaman 2 and 5. 1 was so far out of my reach. :heh:

I don't remember any of the Megaman games being too difficult, especially when compared to games like Batman 1, Pocky & Rocky, Ninja Gaiden, or similar 1-shot-1-death games. Megaman at least let you take a few hits before blowing up to smithereens and even offered some special weapons, energy tanks, and extra lifes to ease it up. You should try them again one of these days ;)

Field Commander - when you played the mission "Hazy Forecast" you cannot beat the super stealth tank that deployed near at the city.

That actually looks easier than 1.5 Ultra. A bit surprising, as I was under the impression that Cave made games harder in later revisions.

Hardest game? easy, Shin Megami Tensei: Digital devil saga, even with all stats maxed out and everyone at LV99 with all moves, demi-fiend takes hours to beat and the survival rate is extremely low, the fight's mostly based on luck.

Actually like all Shin Megami Tensei games the fights based on you following the proper pattern and exploiting the right weakness. Follow the proper pattern and come with the right skills to void attacks and hit the enemies weaknesses and you can win almost any battle easily. Follow the wrong pattern though and you are almost guaranteed to lose.

Shouldn't this make the game more of a Guide Dang it! kind? Then, to me, it wouldn't be hard. After some knocks playing RPGs (nope, losing Aerith in FF7 is NOT one of those), I now resolve never to play an RPG without a walkthrough.
