anyone here play tennis after watching this show? I watched the series after a tennis buddy told me about it, and then passed it on to my roomate who is now learning tennis because of it. It's a shame that he thinks he could do a boomerang snake though.

There are two different movies that were released together. "Futari no Samurai" is the main movie that takes place on a cruise ship. "Atobe Kara Okurimono" is the shorter bonus movie that was released in theaters with the other movie. They were released on separate DVDs (but Japan released a special box set with both of them included). "Atobe Kara Okurimono" is the (hilarious) story of Atobe holding a giant party/race for all of the schools.
The next (third, if you count the Atobe movie as a movie instead of an extra) movie comes out in 2006 and will be live action. So far the live movie looks good, except for the guys they picked to play Hyotei -_- They don't look like Hyotei at all. And they added an original Hyotei member to the movie.... he has a lot of facial hair and reminds me of some kind of tennis pirate...

Crystal Drive for the DS is awesome. You can pick your own team members, and each one has these special moves. Kawamura is my team captain, with wakato, fuji, shinji, sengoku, inui and jackal.

The dating sim I own is "Rush & Dream (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/tenipuri/rush_dream/index.html)" (PS2), but I don't recommend it unless you can read at least some Japanese. But the game is really funny and the CGs you can collect are so pretty!! And there are tennis minigames, because you have to train your character and defeat opponents in tennis matches (they're kind of hard...) to impress the character you like. ^_^
But my favorite part of the game is the "dream mode"!! Like the title implies, the game includes "dreams", which are.... really crazy. They give you weird scenes with characters doing really stupid stuff like flying or teleporting or forming a boy band or becoming the characters in Saiyuki or turning into Shinsengumi.
Here are a few random screencaps I took of the game a long time ago...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v728/panjapanja/rushanddream/shinsengumi-fuji.jpg
Fuji as a Shinsengumi member
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v728/panjapanja/rushanddream2/atobe5.jpg
Oshitari as a thief (you have to help detective Atobe find him)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v728/panjapanja/rushanddream/tezuka-clinic.jpg
Tezuka helps you when you get injured
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v728/panjapanja/rushanddream/seigaku.jpg
The Seigaku members together. The character you play is the girl in the bottom right. There are also other original girl characters who are your friends/rivals. One of the other girls is in the upper left corner...
But if you want one where you can play tennis, I highly recommend Saikyou Team wo Kesseise yo! (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/tenipuri/saikyo/index.html) (PS2). In this game you get to play the coach. You pick five players and try to make a great team by selecting the training and doing other events to make sure your team's compatability and stats grow. You can also participate in tournaments where you get to play tennis matches (in awesome 3D!). You can also customize your team by teaching them special moves and other characters' moves! For example, if you want Sanada to learn "Kikumaru Beam", he can learn it and shout "Sanada beaaaaaaaam" when he does it (it's so funny!).
If you beat the game once (it's easy), you also unlock VS mode, where up to four people can play (fun party game!). You can either make two teams and have them go against eachother or play singles or doubles. The game is also completely voiced and has a lot of special moves to learn. There's also lots of stuff to unlock, such as a 100+ picture gallery, minigames (bowling!), and secret characters. You don't have to know any Japanese to enjoy the tennis matches.
The gameboy games are also good for simple tennis matches. Good for long traveling. ^^ But my favorite gameboy game is Minna no Oujisama (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/tenipuri/minna/index.html) because it's a bunch of fun/strange minigames. There's even a DDR minigame with Prince of Tennis songs as the music. ^^; (konami does make these games, after all...).
If you have more questions about the games, just ask. I just picked out my favorites. ^^ They're really addictive.... haha, I'm obsessed. I'm going to go broke on this hobby.... and the game that just came out (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/tenipuri/gakuensai/index.html) looks so good too!!! I hear in this game you can put on a play (with full voice acting) by selecting the actors and script (similar to Suikoden 3's theater). So fun~~~

Then the ref is an idiot. Say the opponent hits a corner shot, and I run it down and hit it to his side, but because my angle is so far I don't even have to hit above the net but basically hit it to his side. That point would still be in, so if a boomerang were to happen, the ref should count it. (this just comes from playing tennis for so long)
Anyways, I can do a regular snake no problem. I can even do one with my backhand which puts a nasty slice on it so the ball veers to the left (right handed, so my slice makes the ball bounce left).
Tennis is fun. I wish more people would get into it.
Also, did Kawamura play in the match in the Nationals? He never really gets to play, outside of doubles 1 and that Hyotei match where it was set up so Echizen could play.
Hopefully the Nationals will happen so Seigaku plays Fudomine in the finals, not Rikkaidai.
Um, so buggy-whipp shot is an actual tennis move i suppose?
What other shots in PoT is legit (ie. can happen in real life) then? :eyespin:

The two movies were released together in a special "Memorial Edition" DVD Box (can be purchased here (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=DA-679)) with bonus extras. Japanese only, no subtitles. (and I don't think the movie was officially sold anywhere outside of Japan.... ^_^; )
If you just want to see the Atobe movie, you can buy it here (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=DA-681), but again, there are no English subtitles.
I really hope that some group will fansub these movies. Futari no Samurai wasn't very good, but Atobe Kara Okurimono is really fun to watch just because of the craziness and inside jokes in it (it's definately made for fans!). If any fansubbers are taking this project on, please let us know.... ^_^

I've never seen a good quality torrent for the movies, but then again I've never looked... but if you like the episodes where they're relaxing you'll love the Atobe movie. And if you don't know ANY Japanese at all, you can still get some fun out of the game, but it will feel very random... at least you'd be able to do the training and the matches and would be able to enjoy the voices (the game is completely voiced) and CG gallery. I at least suggest you learn to recognize the kanji for the characters names, so you know how to pick that character from lists (you have to keep picking the character you like out of a list so you can play doubles with him so he will like you more). The game is only like $25 (including shipping) so even if you don't like it much, at least it was cheap. Just please remember that these games will ONLY work on a Japanese PS2!! Unless you have your PS2 modified to play Japanese games.

I'm pretty sure the movie (magazines call it "Cinepuri" for now) doesn't have its own website yet, but they've been posting pictures from the movie in magazines and Shonen Jump. Here's a magazine page with movie pictures (http://haruno.sakura.free.fr/pot/cinepuri.jpg).
That site also has pictures (from magazines) of the new OVA. Just go here and scroll down a bit (http://www.pot-fr.com/main.php) for pictures of the new teams in the nationals games (the ones in blue jerseys).

Buggy Whip shot is doable, the anime just exaggerates how much it curves.
Short Serve is a real thing (Kameo's serve)
Jackknife is real (Hewitt did it alot when he was winning in 2002-3)
Twist Serve is real, it just can't be that severe bouncing up.
Hadokyou is real, just hit it really really hard ;)
One thing I want to say is that Drive B is impossible to do where it actually works (ie you get a point for it).

What about Tezuka Zone, Cyclone Smash, Super Special Momo Dunk(Or whatever he called it), Tsubasa Gaeshi(Think it was spelled like that, and all the 3 counters to Fuji pluss his amazing serve!(Where he puts a spinn on the ball before hitting it).
I think I got to Fuji's 3rd counter before I said, that's it, tennis does not exit
Wow thanks domino! Now im all excited for PoT again. Which manga ep did it leave off of from the anime?
I haven't been keeping up with the manga, but I'm pretty sure the anime and manga split during the Rikkaidai matches, so if you want to read the manga but don't want to re-read the old stuff (though I recommend you do read all of the manga!), you should start at the beginning of the Rikkaidai tournament (the manga version of the Rikkaidai matches is even better than the anime version).
The anime had to add a lot of stuff so it wouldn't get too far ahead of the manga (but the anime eventually got far ahead anyway and was stopped), so they added things... The arc with Jousei Shounan (the school with the creepy lady coach, Hanamura) doesn't exist in the manga. Neither does the American School tournament + Jr. Senbatsu arc.
I need to catch up on the manga during winter break...
hey i just wanted to know, what is an OVA?
OVA stands for "Original Video Animation", meaning an anime movie (usually an hour or less, but can be multiple volumes/episodes) that is released directly to video/DVD (doesn't appear in theaters or on TV first).
Buggy Whip shot is doable, the anime just exaggerates how much it curves.
Short Serve is a real thing (Kameo's serve)
Jackknife is real (Hewitt did it alot when he was winning in 2002-3)

Question: Its not really Hadokyou if you just hit it hard right? Or should I ask: does flat shot(ie so-called using 120% of your muscle power) exists?
And I really cant picture a snake shot in real life:uhoh: , especially seeing how much balls in tennis matches seem to be soo straight except for the occasional lob or drop volly.
The air in PoT seem to be more materialised than real air:heh:
EDIT: The tezuka for the Live-action movie doesnt look like Tezuka at all!:twitch: :eyebrow:

There were many different cast members in the musicals, but for the most part, there were 2 Seigaku casts. The first Seigaku cast (the one in Dream Live 1st, which can be found subbed here on animesuki) "graduated" from the musicals (a lot of them moved on to become the cast of the Bleach musical). The second Seigaku cast from the musicals is in the movie. Their hair doesn't look as good/accurate in the movie because they were trying to go for a more "realistic" look (which fails, because the Hyotei they picked for the live action movie all look like the same person). I really like the Ryoma they picked for the live action movie though! It's the kid from Gackt's movie Moonchild~~
And if you wanna see how the casts looked in the Prince of Tennis musicals, you can find their pictures on the official Prince of Tennis musical website (http://www.mmv.co.jp/products/flyer/tennis_musical/). The listing of the musicals is here (http://www.mmv.co.jp/products/flyer/tennis_musical/play/index.html) in case you need help finding it. ^_^ Just click "profile" next to the musical you want to see the cast for. There were 9 musicals so far, and only 1 has been subbed! That needs to change! The musicals are so good!
I agree that the person acting as Ryoma in the Live-action movie is fitting, but still....Tezuka in the live-action movie looks 100% different from the anime/manga Tezuka, who is suppose to look like a college student.
The Tezuka in the Live-action movie = Kamio with glasses....:uhoh:

Tezuka zone is BS.
Cyclone Smash could work, but by the time youtwist your body around to get the power, the ball will already hit the ground. (I also want to point out smashes are hard things to pull off; in the anime they were jumping 15 ft into the air, so of course it's easy for them)
Momo's Dunk can work, but you have to be so close to the net to hit it vertically up that you run the risk of hitting the net and forfeiting the point.
Fuji's stuff is impossible, with the exception of Higmuma Otoshi. If you time it right, and angle your racket, it can work.
Question: Its not really Hadokyou if you just hit it hard right? Or should I ask: does flat shot(ie so-called using 120% of your muscle power) exists?

Flat Shot's exist but are called sinkers (and you dont use 120% of anything on your body), like that one guy with the big nose did when playing Fuji. No spin on the ball.
Watch women's matches to see a buggy whip shot. Lindsey Davenport does them a lot. Tim Henman does them too.

The Tezuka in the Live-action movie = Kamio with glasses....:uhoh:
I think he's pretty good. :D Not as Tezuka-like as the Tezuka in Dream Live 1st (the musical on animesuki), but good. The magazine just doesn't show a good picture of him because the hair stylists in the movie were lazy and trying to give everyone more natural, relaxed hair styles/colors. He looks a lot like Tezuka on his recent album's cover (http://tennipri.interchannel.jp/rhythm_93.html), in my opinion. :D And the actor is 20 years old, so that should be enough to look like a college student.
The only one who looks NOTHING like the character to me is the guy they picked to be Kikumaru. He doesn't have the personality or the skill for the role at all... And I'm afraid they even toned down his trademark flippy red hair for the movie, too :uhoh:
Hmm, but Hadokyou and sinker are different shots right?
Hadokyou is a shot with lots of power, while sinker is to hit the ball so that it has no spin.
domino: but still....the hair remaind me of Kamio...:uhoh:

I don't really care about graphics, so I don't know how to rate them, but I've never once thought of the games I played having bad graphics. Their main features aren't the graphics anyway... they're mainly 2D artwork (colored manga-style pictures) and text, so graphics aren't important.
And yes, every game I've played has featured special moves for every character (like Tezuka Zone for Tezuka, Moon Volley for Oishi, etc...). Sometimes they have multiple special moves. In the PS2 game "Saikyou Team wo Kesseise yo" you can teach any character other characters' special moves, so you can have a Tezuka that can do Moon Volley, or Atobe that can do Ryoma's Drive B, or whatever else you feel like doing.

Not even that popular? Where? Every time I see a manga sales chart, Prince of Tennis is in the top 10 (often top 5) of all the manga. On Japan's largest cosplay site (http://cure.livedoor.com/), PoT is the 2nd most cosplayed category. The musical's tickets usually sell out in 5 minutes. To say it's not popular would be incorrect. ^_^; It's one of Japan's most popular manga, and for an unlicensed anime, it's pretty well-known at American conventions, too (though not nearly in comparison to Japan/other parts of Asia's obsession with it... PoT is EVERYWHERE).
And I've seen all of the musicals, and they're all very good. They're fun to watch and the songs are catchy and fun to sing along to.
has everyone here seen all the episodes?
*Raises hands* me! Im like, watching it the 4th time...:heh:

So is PoT big in all of Asia, not just Japan (I read that 30,000 people started tennis because of the show)? Because tennis rules so much I wish it would get a broader audience.
I just ask this because Shaghai China had the ATP Master's Cup in late November 2005 and it didn't seem like the people were all that jazzed about the matches (outside of the final).

I hear PoT is big enough in Asia to have Ryoma and Fuji's Japanese voice actors travel to Taiwan for a PoT event. I also went to a Taiwanese cafe yesterday to find that they sold Prince of Tennis keychains. ^_^ That was the only anime-related merchandise in the entire store, too. (The rest was food)
I also heard that the show made a lot of people start playing tennis in Japan. So much that they made Ryoma an official mascot of the Japanese Tennis Association...
I personally started becoming interested in tennis because of PoT. I try to play but I'm bad at it. ^_^ I showed this series to friends at school, and after watching it, every single one of them decided to try to play real tennis. It's very good for motivation! It makes me happy that a lot of PoT fans are going out and trying the sport and really getting into it, no matter how old or how active they are. I once saw a cute little boy wearing a blue jacket and saying he wanted to be like Ryoma and that he learned how to hit a twist serve. Things like that are just so cute and encouraging... ^_^ Even if I play tennis like Sakuno (or even worse...), things like this make me want to go out and play every day. It's really fun. I guess it's just harder to pick up than more popular sports (like basketball or american football) because it can be hard to find a place to play... (the only thing that keeps me from playing often is the ability to find a convenient court to play on)

PoT definately has my vote for the best sports-anime. They have a great mix of good music, nice setting and tennis shots that people can only dream of.:heh:
But I do think that its not so popular here at the forums *sigh*. I mean like, the last OP was probably one of the best anime songs I've heard, yet Im probably the only person even mentioning a song from PoT
Of course, the animation/drawing isnt that good compared to other animes, so perhaps thats why its so shunned in AF...

What is the latest tennis game for the ps2? in POT i mean.
The latest POT game for PS2 is Gakuensai no Oujisama (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/tenipuri/gakuensai/). It's a dating sim based around a school festival. Comes with special cards featuring CGs from the game. It was released late December 2005. I want it...!!
Ok, this month's POT music announcements:
* Two singles will be relased March 15, 2006: one sung by Fudomine's Shinji Ibu and the other sung by Kyuuki Kiichi (guy who had like one line in the entire series... but they made fun of him for having a hard-to-say name in one of the January 1 2006 singles, so I guess they decided to give him his own single....!!)
* Reminder that two versions of Valentine Kiss (every year they release this song sung by a Hyotei member... the song is a re-make of an old Valentine song that was originally sung by a girl band.... ^_^;; ) will be released in February. ^_^
* 4 POT singles made the top 500 singles list on the Oricon chart (think of it as a Japanese billboard chart...) for last year. Impressive, since there are so many singles released in Japan every single day....!!

Ah, this (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/tenipuri/saikyo/index.html) is the newest PS2 game that is tennis and not a dating sim... I own it and it's very fun. ^_^
2005 Crystal Drive (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/tenipuri/2005/index.html) is actually the newest tennis-focused game, but it's for Nintendo DS. That game looks fun.. looks like you can watch the bench and the court at the same time thanks to the DS's two screens. ^_^
And asking where to download music or posting links to downloadable music is against forum rules.... ^_^;
Just realised that I've got a question that I have been itching to ask:
What is cool drive? Ive read somewhere that Ryoma gets that move after the training camp before Rikkaidai(sp?) but wasn't that cyclone smash?
Or was cool drive ommited in the anime?:twitch:

Cool Drive is mentioned only in the manga. I think they used cyclone smash instead of cool drive in the anime... again because the Rikkaidai part of the anime is very different from the manga part because that's where the anime got ahead of the manga.

I think Ryoma does the Cyclone Smash in the manga in his match against Kirihara before the finals with Rikkai, but it wasn't given a name there.

Yeah he does, and then officially completes it after that match whilst training with Oishi. (oh my gosh i know something lol). Hey domino, that link for the latest tennis playing one goes to the konami website with loads of japanese lol i cant really understand it lol.
Why does echizen start speaking english in his match with sanada? it doesnt sound like someone who was born and raised in america, but it still sounds cool lol.

well at least you can look at screenshots there. ^_^ For gameplay.... I own that game so just ask if you need help.
In that game you pick a team captain and go around recruiting up to 4 other characters to be on your team (the characters can be any character from any school). You then train them and help them for about 20 in-game weeks to raise their stats and compatability to prepare for a big tournament. After you beat the tournament you unlock VS mode where you can just play as many tennis matches as you want with 1-4 human or computer players (singles, doubles, or team battle). You can also unlock a gallery mode, bowling mode, and hidden characters.
If you have more questions just ask.... ^_^
Where is everyone here from?
I watched the match with echizen and sanada. what the hell is up with echizens voice lol, he just starts speaking english out of the blue. also his voice doesnt sound like someone who was born and raised in america lol. It was quite wierd at first, but it sounded kinda cool lol.
Im on episode 133 or something like that now. Does echizen ever meet the girl who decided to go back to the PRos? no spoilers please except for that point lol
^^ You're somwhere near where I am... I love Echizen's match with Sanada... :P I watched that at least 10 times... o.o I like to laugh at Echizen's english.... It sounds so... o.o I mock him in school... :/
Only 2 of my friends watched PoT before, but they only watched the first few episodes... o.o PoT just isn't so popular in North America, namely, Canada....
My friends are starting to get annoyed at me for talking too much about tennis... o.o My friend's don't really want to downlaod it because it has too many episodes.... x.X Their computer's can't take it... They have to resort to coming over to watch... >.>

I'm glad it's a long series, because in my opinion there aren't ENOUGH episodes! I wish there were more.
And the game I was talking about is called "Saikyou Team wo Kesseise yo!", but Play-Asia has it listed under its translated name instead: "Form the Strongest Team!" (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-45-49-en-15-tennis-70-ohk.html)

I haven't had time to read the manga lately, but I looked up about Cool Drive online...
The anime has Cyclone Smash instead of Cool Drive. Cool Drive was first brought up in a manga-only match of Ryoma vs Kirihara.
Another source also says that Drive B and Drive A (anime) are called Drive B and Drive C in the manga.

Ooh, I've never played Smash Hit 2... what is it like? 100% tennis matches/tournaments? I'd give advice but I've never even touched the game, so I can't help you there... ^_^;
There hasn't been much new PoT news lately... except that one of the guests on Shishido's album (to be released February 8th) is Oishi. I wonder why Oishi and Shishido always appear together on each others' CDs...
Only other random news is that I recently played Rush&Dream again and got Kirihara's ending. In the Rikkaidai dreams, Kirihara was a vampire and Sanada was the vampire hunter. The character you play is Sanada's fiance, but when Kirihara kidnaps you, you can choose to return to Sanada or stay with vampire Kirihara... ^_^; I also got a really weird scene where all of the Seigaku regulars were trying to speak English (and they sucked at it). I laughed so hard that I thought I was going to die... x_x

lol, those dating sim games sound soo cool lol.
Ive got FTST well its coming soon lol. Smash Hit 2 is pretty good. There is basically three main modes, first is just exhibition, second is doubles championship and the third is single story. The doubles one is kinda hard, as you have to win matches in certain conditions then use those points to develop characteristics in the characters lol. (hard for me as i dont understand any of the statistics lol). Though the story mode (one player) is really cool. 1st story is fudomine 2nd is St rudolph and i dont know the third. They just pretty random matches as the players in those clubs but good lol.
The specials are good too, though its hard, cause you have to be in certain positions to do some of them. And Tezuka is way overrated and Fuji is soooo crap in the game, how can that be!!!!
Oh I'm not sure which one i played but it was all tennis matches..
It's really hard... If you play doubles with the computer, the computer gets like all the shots and you can't exactly/ don't have to do anything...
Actually, its so hard I lost to Dan Taichi with Tezuka... *blinks* That was the worst experience ever... My cousin likes to play with Echizen (who always trips and stuff...) and I can only play with Tezuka (if i play with anyone else, i won't even make it to the ball...) so we played doubles... Echizen-Tezuka vs Dan-Dan
We lost... again 2 dans... x.X That was a painful experience....

I'd help you when I'm on, I should probably be tomorrow or today. There aren't any FAQs for FTST, there was one site with lots of info on it but it was in Japanese and now it's down anyway.
Or even better, although I'd see you one of these days, just put a couple of questions here and I'd answer them. Maybe you'd get your answers faster in case I don't see you and if there are any other people playing FTST it'd help them as well.

You should be able to beat the game fine with knowledge of the main menu.
The basics are this: you can recruit up to 5 players and train them for about 20 in-game weeks to prepare them for a big tournament.
Main menu commands (the screen where you see your team captain on the right and options on the left):
first option: train with individual member (you can do private training with someone on your team; that person's compatability with you/the captain will go up, but everyone else on the team will like you less)
second option: Team members pick their own training menu. They like to do this and often request this at the meetings.
third option: Meetings. Raises team compatability and lets members tell you how to improve your team and what they want to do.
fourth option: Go out and have fun. This gives the team a break from hard training and makes them like you more. You can get special events here, such as a bowling mini game (unlockable mini game for vs mode).
fifth option: practice game. You can play against another team for fun. The team you meet may become your team's rival.
sixth option: character recruit. You get a character list and can pick who you recruit. Just note that you can only have up to 5 people on your team (including you, the captain).
seventh option: status (team status info, such as compatability, character profiles, etc)
eighth option: system (save or load)
if you have any more questions just ask. ^_^

Could someone please tell what order I should watch the ova's and movies for this series? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.
The current OVA out (Day at Survival Mountain) and movies do not really tie in to the timeline. You should just watch the OVA when you're familiar with Seigaku. You'll enjoy the movies more, though, if you've seen up until the Rikkaidai arc, because the movies feature the ENTIRE CAST up to that point, and you'll want to be familiar with everyone. :D
The new OVAs (coming out in 2006), though... they DO tie in with the main story and are about an important tournament (nationals), so they should be watched after you watch the TV series.

Is it true that it has been Licensed?! I just saw an post on an website!
Is it true that it has been Licensed?! I just saw an post on an website!
Which website was this?
It's probably false, because there's just too much of the series and it doesn't seem like it would click well enough with American viewers (partly because of their awful-quality American releases of the manga) to make them buy so many DVDs (it would take about 35 DVDs even if they put 5 on each one, and that's not counting any of the OVAs or movies). I wonder how well the manga is selling in America?
And popular Shonen Jump titles have such a high licensing cost... I wonder if it will ever see a faithful American release. But again, looking at the crappy English manga makes me cringe at the thought... they completely destroyed the characters' relationships and personalities in their translation. There's a character in St. Rudolph who is most commonly known for his annoying way of speech (saying "da ne" after everything), but in the Viz version of the manga, they didn't even TRY to translate it -- the speech thing is completely absent, completely ruining his character's point. It's terrible...
Speaking of the manga, at which point do the anime and manga begin to deviate from each other?

Look at previous posts for a more detailed answer, because it was already asked several times. Some of the tournaments (like Jyousei Shonan) weren't in the manga at all (they played against a different school instead). Some of the special moves in the manga are different. The anime completely splits from the manga during the Rikkaidai arc because the anime got past the manga at that point.

Do you mean the gag version of episode 178 by Shinsen-Subs? I downloaded it somewhere but never watched it. Ask someone from Shinsen Subs about it (go to their IRC room or something).

The 178 they have packaged in their episode bundle is probably the REAL episode 178 with accurate subtitles instead of joke subtitles. You'll probably have to look for the joke version elsewhere, because Ryoma definately doesn't kill himself in the real episode.

Hmm, Prince of Tennis on US TV... scary thought. VIS is probably really thinking about it. Maybe they really did pick up the rights to the anime? Since the rumors about Full Moon o Sagashite were true...
I still think it's a scary thought, though. :uhoh:

The Survival Mountain OVA is subbed and available here on AnimeSuki. It's listed as "Prince of Tennis OVA". That's the only OVA released for now. Still no subs for the movie available (unless you count awful, awful bootlegs subbed by people who speak neither English nor Japanese).
You can buy the English version of the manga through Viz. Easy to find in American bookstores, but if you're in Europe you can easily find them online instead. I don't recommend them at all, though -- their translation is utter garbage.
Hey all for some odd reason i want to watch a specific episode again..the one where Ryoma uses everyones special techniques to win a match. if you know the episode plz respond so i can watch it again .. thanks in advance
NM all i found it. ^_^ was downloading it when i type that..what luck ^_^

Hey domino, is it really true that the translations are bad? Is it not worth buying them then? How many volumes are there exactly, i bet there are loads!!! lol
On ebay i think i saw a Prince of Tennis movie for sale, and it said it had english subtitles, it looked legite but i dont know lol.
I finished Prince of Tennis!!! ahh its so wierd, no more episodes to look forward to :( I have to admit the ending was really that great lol, i mean it just leaves the impression that another season was gonna be made, but they just left it.
I really hope they sub the Nationals OVAS and quickly lol. Will Echizen be in those by the way?
Guess im just gonna have to play the games for a bit now lol

Prince of Tennis the anime is going to get licensed? Hmm it will probably only be avaliable in America though!!! Just Like Naruto and Samurai Champloo, while everyone else has to find another way to watch it lol.
Maybe if they license the anime though, they might release those dating sims in english!! ohhh that would be cool!!! Hate how all the good games are in japanese lol.

The english translations of the manga are very bad. They suck all of the personality out of all the characters. In the Japanese versions, almost every character has a strong personality that comes out in the way they speak. Kikumaru speaks like a cat, Momo speaks roughly (and repeats things a lot), Mizuki has his trademark "nfu" giggle, St. Rudolph's Yanagisawa has his trademark "da ne", Shinji Ibu has his trademark "summason", etc... every character's personality comes out in their speech.
In the English version of the manga, they didn't even TRY to re-create these personalities. They completely left them out, so everyone acts boring and similar. It's like everyone is the same person. I can't believe they left out the "da ne" since there are soooooo many jokes on how annoying it is through the series.
The other horrible thing they did was "Americanize" the names. Name endings (chan, kun, etc) are chopped off. And they made it so EVERYONE calls EVERYONE by their first names. It ruins the complex character relationships, further ruining the characters' personalities... No one calls Fuji "Fuji". Everyone just says "Shuusuke". People who are familiar with the original version, like me, cringe at this...
And they translate "Seigaku Regulars" into "Seishun Starters", even though it was in English even in the original Japanese version, and even if they have "Seigaku" written all over their jerseys...
This is just the beginning of the crappiness of the Viz translation. I think Viz is secretly hiring monkeys to translate for them...
And there are about 32 volumes in Japan and it's still continuing.
And don't buy Prince of Tennis DVDs on e-bay. Anything that has English subs is a bootleg. There are NO official Prince of Tennis DVDs that have English subtitles. Stay away from the bootlegs! If you buy them you will get a cheap-quality crappy product with subtitles that make no sense and are glitchy with a million errors. And by buying bootlegs you are basically paying money to the scum of the earth (people who sell bootlegs).

I didnt say i was going to buy them lol. You mde the translations seem soo rubbbish, ahh i really wanted to read them too lol. I cant believe they would cut out the 'dane' thing that is one of the most funniest phrases in the whole anime that and the guy who says stupid jokes.
Oh crap i forgot ive got the Dream Live musical lol, guess ill just have to live off that for one more night lol, then find some more scraps.

Domino are there plans for more PoT games? I really want one to come on the PSP or the new generation consoles lol.
They always have new PoT games in the works, since they sell well. It will probably be awhile until the next one, though, since the last new game came out in December 2005. The games are usually for Playstation consoles except for the PSP -- every time they release a portable PoT game it's for a Nintendo system (GBA, Nintendo DS).
Anyway, more PoT news~~
* PoT movie sub!! Yay! I really like the animation in the movie, even if the movie itself is rather silly... I really hope they sub the second half of the movie, too. That half is much better (and is hilarious).
* Episode 160 from Anime-Otakus. We love you guys, AO~
* Manga vol. 32 out in Japan
* Shishido's album was released in Japan yesterday. Track list:
1.一日だけのバカンス (Ichinichi Dake no VAKANSU / Vacation for a Day )
2.4 SEASONS
3.Next Gate
4.ライジングカウンター ~Infinity~ (Rising Counter ~Infinity~)
5.Break Chance
6.Grow Up
7.世界 (Sekai / The World)
8.HANG IN THERE
9.GEKI-DASA DAZE!!!
10.YES
11.ENDLESS DREAM
12.Friendship
Guests on this album: Ohtori Choutarou, Oishi Shuuichirou, Kikumaru Eiji
* New Prince of Tennis musical announced for spring (March 28~29 @ Zepp Tokyo). This time it's Dream Live 3rd featuring Seigaku and Hyoutei. This should be very amusing! (the Dream Live musicals are gag concerts instead of the normal PoT musicals that follow the manga storyline)
* "Valentine Kiss" CD singles (two versions of the song: Atobe version and Oshitari version) from previous years were re-released last week. Atobe version ranked 26th on the Oricon singles chart. Oshitari's version was 38th place. (Ah, Atobe always beats everyone at everything...)
* Pre-orders for the winter version of the Prince of Tennis Musical: Imperial Match Hyoutei Gakuen are open. The DVD will be released in Japan on March 20. (it's already the #1 rank DVD on animate.... ;; )
The entirety of the Tezuka match in the movie has got to be the finest piece of self-satire ever.
Really though, was thw show cancelled or something? It seems like an absurd change of pace.

Parts like that make it obvious that they were just making crap up instead of basing anything on the manga. XD But I admit, the first time I saw the movie's Tezuka Zone scene I was rolling on the ground laughing. I hear when the movie was in theaters in Japan people were cracking up through the whole thing and falling down in the aisles because it was so crazy.
I need to watch the end of the anime so I can see more of the insanity. Still on the American tournament. Scary. Kevin's clothes... :uhoh:

So the movie is finally subbed!!!! i have to get me that lol. Is it the Futari No Samurai one that is subbed yeah? There is only one other one i think?

Haven't seen all of the anime yet because I'm picky and am waiting for Anime Otakus' versions. ^_^
And yeah, the movie they released on AnimeSuki this week was the Futari no Samurai half of the movie (the half that's actually about tennis, hehe... even though it makes little/no sense). Atobe Kara Okurimono is the second part of the movie (completely unrelated to the story in Futari no Samurai). I hope someone subs that half... it's about Atobe throwing a party, and it's really funny. ^^;
Futari no Samurai and Atobe Kara Okurimono are the only PoT movies currently. They were released together in theaters in early 2005 (in the theaters, before the movie they had PoT characters' voices tell you to turn your phone off, shut up, etc... Kawamura shouts "SIT DOWN!!!!" in Engrish, it's so awesome).
The next movie is going to be live action and will be released this year. :D

Not really: Ryoma's encounters with Sasabe's father came later than that, and Ryoma learned a new twist serve which, didnt appear throughout the anime.

I wish they release another one soon with newer characters and stuff, maybe even the americans lol.

Which characters did they leave out? :O Other than Jyousei Shounan and the American team... they were probably left out because they're not "real" teams (they're not in the manga). And there are unlockable characters, but they're hard to get. ^_^ I've only unlocked Yukimura... but there are others like Ann and blonde-version Tachibana. I'm pretty sure you can play AGAINST Nanjiroh somehow, but I don't know if he's unlockable too... hmm....
Anyway, new Prince of Tennis things for March:
* Prince of Tennis musical "Dream Live 3rd" will be March 28~29. I wish I could go! But tickets sell so fast... tickets to Prince of Tennis musicals usually sell out in less than 30 minutes. It's insane... anyway, this one will feature Seigaku and Hyoutei. On a side note, it will be performed at Zepp Tokyo, which is the place often featured in the anime "Gravitation" ^_^; (the final scene of that anime was at Zepp Tokyo... )
* Two new CD singles:
Title: Kiichi no Hayakuchi Kotoba (Kiichi's quickly-spoken words)
Artist: Kuki Kiichi (a barely-known PoT character featured in a January PoT single, in which there was a joke around his name being hard to pronounce... same voice actor as Rikkaidai's Yanagi Renji, I think)
Release Date: March 15, 2006 (wednesday)
Price: 777 yen
Title: Start ~ Boku no Yukue~ (Start ~ The Place where I am)
Artist: Ibu Shinji (from Fudomine ^^)
Release date: March 15, 2006 (wednesday)
Price: 777 yen
* Volume 1 of "National Tournament" OVA comes out on DVD March 24. A cool-looking poster (possibly DVD cover) is on the official tenipuri site (http://www.tenipuri.com/main.html)... as well as interesting pictures from the live-action PoT movie... (I can't believe how bad the Hyoutei in the movie looks!! Especially compared to the perfect Hyoutei from the musicals... I guess they want them to look more real and less anime-style so they can attract a wider audience or something?)
Yay, Prince of Tennis. ^_^ Always something new to keep the fans happy...

You can't get English subtitled PoT DVDs of any part of the series anywhere in the world. If you see English subbed DVDs, they are bootlegs, so don't buy them. ^_^ Prince of Tennis has not been licensed in any English-speaking countries (including the US and UK). You can buy the Japanese DVD, but it won't be subtitled. Hopefully someone will fansub it. It will take years and years for English DVDs to get to that point in the anime even if PoT gets licensed...
The live-action movie is coming to theaters this year in Japan. It at least includes Seigaku and Hyoutei. The Seigaku members will be the same cast as in the most recent PoT musicals. The rest will be different... which is upsetting, since the musical-version Hyoutei was SO perfect (Click here to see a video of their intro (http://youtube.com/watch?v=K9I_PxFaGYM&search=tenimyu)... you can watch this and many more Tenimyu videos on this site by searching for "Tenimyu"). Ryoma will be played by the person who played young version of Sho (Gackt's character) in the movie "Moonchild". Rest of cast includes random former Tenimyu cast members, random J-pop girls, and a creepy-looking new character rumored to be a Hyoutei member...

And of course there is no fansub yet since these things aren't even out in Japan yet. There will probably be a fansub eventually, but if you don't want to wait you can buy the Japanese DVDs. ^_^

The Live-Action movie will NOT be a musical, but will have the same ACTORS from the PoT musicals. ^_^That sort of suggests that all the tennis may end up being special effects more than anything, unless they can actually play. -o- Although it'd look great, nonetheless, if they can pull off the type of action- shots(in the filming sense) they had in the animated movie. Hoping for something good. Looking forward to it. :)

They manage to make it look cool when they "play tennis" in the musicals (even if they arent really using a ball), so I have faith in them. ^_^ And a lot of the cast members have previous tennis experience, plus lots of training for the musicals/movie. One of the actors was a national-level player. ^_^ They're surprisingly skilled.
And I'm happy to hear that the Prince of Tennis musicals' popularity has sprouted good acting careers for its cast members. A lot have been starring in Japanese TV dramas lately. The actors who will play Tezuka, Oishi, and Kikumaru in the live action movie will be starring in another movie coming out in Japan this summer. Oh yeah... and the guy who played Inui in the first cast will be in this summer's Death Note live action movie. ^^ Yay~

I have to admit the way they make matches look in the musicals are good, even when they dont have a tennis ball there lol. On the Seigaku vs Hyotei one they used a light acting as the ball. Was pretty good, and looked okay.

Yep, 1 episode per OVA DVD. ^_^ Japanese DVDs are always like that.... expensive, have a short running time, and few extras. o_x In fact, they release the Prince of Tennis DVD extras on SEPARATE DVDs instead of including them with the TV anime DVDs. T__T Stingy jerks.
So we'll have to wait very slowly for the rest of the anime to come out. ~_~ Episode by episode... I think they'll release 1 DVD every other month...
All of the musicals use light as the "ball" ^^ Or sometimes a picture of a ball moving on a screen behind everyone, which is how they did Tsubame Gaeshi... it looked really cool.

PoT (Tenipuri, for those who haven't caught on to its Japanese abbreviation yet...) news of the month~
* Tenipuri OVA volume 1 (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCBA-2461#) (of 7, I think) comes out March 24. You can view the front and back covers on the link, or order it. 37 minutes, $33.
* New DVD announced! There will be a "making of" DVD for the live action Tenipuri movie with behind-the-scenes info and stuff on the special effects, etc. They must've put a lot of work into this movie if they're releasing the extras on its own special DVD. This makes me want the movie even more!! ^_^ This DVD is called Tennis no Oujisama: Navigate (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=REDV-456). It's about $21. I want ~
* The next album released was announced! The next character to get his own full album is Rikkaidai's vice captain, Sanada Genichirou. ^_^
Not quite related to Prince of Tennis:
* some of the Prince of Tennis musical cast will be playing major voice roles in the upcoming Air Gear anime
Edit: OVA series now has a website (http://www.tv-tokyo.co.jp/anime/tennipri/ova/). Volume 1 is just one episode with extras. First press comes with event ticket, photo set, and collectable stub (collect stubs from every volume of OVA for a reward~). Also contains seiyuu commentary and character commentary.
OVA volume 2 comes out May 26 and will contain 2 episodes. :D Looks like all volumes except vol 1 will be 2 episodes. Meaning the OVA series will be like 13 episodes! The length of a small TV anime! ^_^

Only the first press DVDs will contain the extras for the event ticket and prize ticket, but unless you live in Japan you probably won't be able to use either of them anyway. The first press DVDs are already sold out from CD Japan.
And like all of the Japanese PoT DVDs (or any anime DVDs...), there will be no subtitles.
Oh!! And exciting news for the live action movie!! ^_^
there is now a trailer (http://www.tenipuri-movie.jp/) for the movie!! It comes out in theaters (in Japan of course) in May!! It looks soooo good!! (except for the people they picked for Hyoutei... erk)
In sadder news, the Seigaku cast that will be in the live action movie recently announced that they will not be performing in the musicals any more. Their final Prince of Tennis musical appearince will be in this month's "Musical Tennis no Oujisama: Dream Live 3rd" (begins playing in Japan in one week, if you were lucky enough to get tickets... I hear tickets for Prince of Tennis musicals sell out in 5 minutes after sale opens, and even then hundreds of people wait outside the building hoping for extras...). And I was starting to really like them, too... so future musicals will have new Seigaku members (they're even changing the AWESOME freshmen trio actors this time... noooo!!). The only Seigaku member that will be continuing for future musicals is the guy who plays Fuji Shuusuke... but at least since they said this actor will be continuing, we know there will be even more Tennis musicals in the future. ^-^

That sounded so stupid lol sorry, its just that under cast it only really had Tezuka, Echizen and some random people lol. Are the girls Sakuno and Tomomo?
Unfortunately, in the movie, the characters look less like the anime versions (in the musical everyone looked a LOT like the anime characters!). They are all the same characters (so yes, all of Seigaku is there), but they look more "realistic" in the movie (possibly to attract a wider variety of fans and make it look more "real"). I guess a Japanese boy with bright red hair wouldn't be believable... ^_^
On the cast page you can see all of Seigaku in the picture at the top. (from left to right: Kaidoh, Momoshiro, Kikumaru, Tezuka, Ryoma, Oishi, Fuji, Kawamura, Inui).
On the cast page listing, from top to bottom:
Ryoma, Tezuka, Egate McCloud (he's an original character in the movie... a new Hyotei member, I believe ~_~ How are we supposed to believe he's in middle school when he looks as old as Ryoma's dad?), Atobe Keigo, then another original character (played by J-pop singer Sayuri Iwata (http://www.sayuri-iwata.com/main.html)), then Ryuuzaki Sumire (she looks way too young!! Wah~~), and Echizen Nanjiroh.

Hmm it looks good none the less. Tezuka's nose seems a bit wierd lol but maybe im being picky lol. Are these the characters from the musicals, cause i know they changed the cast from dream live 1 lol. Oh and i wanted to ask you something Domino i know im sorry for all the questions lol
You know FTST when did it come out? Cause i found out that Smash Hit 2 came out in June 2005. Does that mean that im going to have to wait long for another prince of tennis, tennis playing game lol.
Thanks again

Form the Strongest Team came out September 16 2004. The newer tennis-playing games are for portable systems (Nintendo DS). The most recent game is another dating sim...
And yeah, the cast changed from Dream Live 1st. That cast did the story up to St. Rudolph. The new cast (live-action movie cast) has been around for Yamabuki and Hyoutei (2 versions) musicals, as well as Dream Live 2nd and Dream Live 3rd. Dream Live 3rd will be their last performance -- they are going to get a new Seigaku cast again ~_~
I just saw the OVA....
The continued it off the anime storyline, Ryoma was in America, but somehow had a reason to come back.
They were able to mash up about 5 manga chapters in this episode, but they left out Fuji vs. Tachibana, the introduction of Tooyama Kintaro (YAY hes in the intro!), and the individual training each Seigaku member did.
Highlights of the episode-
-tournament bracket draw, and many new characers are seen and are talking.
- Rokkaku vs. Higa (seen is Aoi vs Chinnen @ S3 and Saeki vs Kai @ S1)
- Ryoma vs Oishi
- DRIVE C for the first time in the anime

Question...
Drive C = Cool drive? (It was mention in this thread, that its in the manga...)
Question...
Drive C = Cool drive? (It was mention in this thread, that its in the manga...)
This is from the manga, "Drive C" makes the ball roll across the ground like Fuji's move and only uses half the spin power of the real cool drive. "Cool Drive" makes the ball jump off the opponents racket to hit them in the face.
When Ryoma used cool drive against Sanada, it was still an incomplete move.
Just saw the raw. It was nice to see the anime back on track again, after neverending fillers.
I feel sorry for Oishi. In the manga it was against Tezuka, in the anime it was against Echizen, a result of fated 0-6. Anyway, it was quicker than expected, hopefully they won't rush it that much in the future games.
If the ova is going to be around 13 episodes, I hope and believe it will be similar to HxH, as continuing ovas.
If that is the case, the ova will most probably finish just after the Hyota-Seigaku matches.

Did Viz Media at NATPE earlier this year announce the PRINCE OF TENNIS anime? Is it licensed?

POT website for the movie is updated ithink. They have a wicked intro, which shows Tezuka and some other people.
Sorry Domino looks like i did a bit of your job there lol.
Oh and about the anime licensed, im not too sure, there was a convo about it a couple of pages back but even if they did license it, it would take ages to actually get the episodes done. Plus for all the episodes you'd probably have to wait like 5 years or something. But i wouldnt complain if they did lol.
Prince of Tennis isn't licensed. Viz is just considering it... which is true for Viz + ANY Shonen Jump title, since Viz handles Shonen Jump overseas...
And the new movie trailer looks so good. Heheh, the tennis moves are kinda silly in real life, but interesting to watch. The scene with Tezuka was really dramatic... heheh, I love Japanese movies and their over-dramatic ness. :D
Oh yeah, more PoT news: NEW SINGLE!! Rikkaidai's Yanagi Renji is getting a birthday single in June. Happy early birthday, Renji~
And Sanada's album will be out next month...

Hey did anyone manage to sub the little film after the Futari No Samurai. I think it was something like Atobe's Tea Party or something like that. I heard it was really funny, plus Atobe is wicked lol.

The side movie is "Atobe Kara Okurimono" (A Gift from Atobe). It actually shows us more of Atobe's kind side than his wicked side. ^_^
I don't know if anyone is subbing it... which is a shame, because it's hilarious and a hundred times better than Futari no Samurai, which two groups subbed... hopefully Anime-Otakus is working on it.
Anyway, official TeniPuri movie (http://www.tenipuri-movie.jp) website updated with more info, more pictures, longer trailer (TEZUKA ZOOOOOONE). The movie comes out May 13 in theaters in Japan.
I hate the way movie Atobe looks... ~_~ I miss musical-version Atobe!! KAZUKI~~~
Speaking of musicals, the newest gag/concert, Dream Live 3rd, comes to DVD on June 20th. It's already a top preorder online... I hear it includes insane rapping, parodies of Star Wars and Densha Otoko, and Tezuka and Atobe kissing...
