Can someone tell me what is the relationship between Nanako and the Echizen family? I've only watched the anime so I'm not sure if they actually explained it in the manga. :confused:

I know there was an episode that Momoshiro said to thank his "relative" but it wasn't specific as to who was talking about (and it looked like Ryoma was a littled annoyed when he heard that). Also Nanako calls Ryoma, "Ryoma san" instead of "Ryoma kun", eventhough she's obviously older than him so I thought their relationship might be more compllicated than just cousins?

So I was watching old episodes of PoT again, and going back to the good old days, it wasn't so bad until ep 3.

Tezuka started talking, he sounds sooooooooooo funny
then Kikamaru, he acctually had a deep voice
and Kaido HOLY crap, he sounds halarious

PS they also changed the drawing styles, the 12 year old girls LOOK like 12 year old girls, and not some crazy curvy girls like in the current episodes...man purberty kicks in fast in anime ;)

I think it's so ridiculous how they make these people out to be junior high students. Even Echizen who looks the youngest could pass for a freshman in high school.

I've found it's generally best to ignore the age the Japanese give to people anyway. It's usely wack in all things, games, anime etc.

And I don't know about changing voice actors, but it's possible the voice actors were asked to perform slightly differently. VAs take time to get into their roles, so somtimes voices change a little bit. Most English dubs suck at first, but get better later on (which doesn't mean they don't still suck :P).

That is true, even good shows like the Simpsons and Family Guy started out slightly differently and evolved as the show progressed. Just take Homer's voice, for example. It was way deeper and more serious in the beginning.

Clearly they are extending the life of the series. Actually this arc is the time when the anime and the manga stories run in parallel already. The Rikkaidai matches. Expect a long arc, about 13 episodes from 118 up to 130 I think.

PoT Manga is out in America, also. First volume has been out for a while, 2nd will be out soon. Also, the price is good.. 8 bucks instead of the typical 10. I like ^_^

Additionally, I hope A-O keeps going and does the whole Kantou finals story arc before they pause again. It seems like they do a story arc, then pause. I would presume they work on the next story arc, then, and release it fast. Kinda cool, that way you aren't waiting for ages to see the next episode.

But eh, I could be wrong.. maybe they just needed a break after their awesome streak of episodes last time. :)

yah... they seem pretty tough.... but then again... so did a lot of Seigaku's opponents... they'll find away for sure...

so far.. the doubles 2 team for Rikkaidai doesn't have nice special moves... maybe they'll have some different attacks once they take off their wrist weights... and I'm pretty sure they will find yet another way to stop the new attacks that Momoshiro and Kaidoh brought out...

The anime followed the manga exactly up until after the Hyotei game because the anime caught up with the chapters. I was soo pissed at that too. I loved the Rikkaidai games in the manga much more then the anime.

Inui and Yanagi (the guy with eyes closed) are playing singles 3. When they were in elementary school they were one of Japans best doubles teams for their age, but Yanagi suddenly moved away one day. They both wanted to and knew (because of their data) that they would play eachother at singles 3.

Yagyu/Niou defeated Oishi/Eiji 6-4, It was a really cool game. I cant believe that they didnt give Yagyu the same special move that he used in the manga, it was so much stronger then what they gave him in the anime.

Wait, if this is so and the anime is way ahead of this part, does this mean that the entire match between Ryoma and Sanada in the anime is completely made up? Made up meaning it's completely different than the manga. I don't think that it's a huge big deal if the anime differs some from the manga as long as the outcome of the matches remains the same and there isn't a huge change in the plot. It's just that it would bother me if this match, Ryoma vs Sanada was made up, I mean, this is suppose to be the biggest match, here we have the MAIN CHARACTER vs. someone who totally crushed him.

I thought it was garbage how that guy can make the ball roll along the net or even hit the side posts... those would have to be the worse special abilities I've ever seen... the episode had the usual see-saw battle and the side commentary from everyone... but I found it surprising that Momoshiro and Kaidoh lost... it seemed like they were getting pumped up even more near the end of the match... but then Momoshiro's dunk smash went out... and then they lost... :(

yes, the manga matches are soo much more insane. Its still unsure if they are going to have the same winners for the Ryoma/Sanada match as in the anime. The thing that Ryoma did at the end of the anime match, was something he used from the start of the same match in the manga....

Yanagi (inui's friend on Rikkaidai) is also a data player, so he predicted Seigaku's lineup and had Jackal (Mauri's partner) practice the boomerang snake to counter kaidoh's and to crush his spirit as well.

The match in 120 was sooo much better in the manga....everything in the anime is totally different. It's missing 4 great scenes from the manga...


1. Flashback of how the golden pair started out
2. Eiji Special Step =new super attack formation
3. Rikkaidai pulls a "switcheroo"
4. The godly "Laser"....not some stupid golf swing

Yeah, ever since the anime caught up, it's been going downhill.

I'll probably just hang around until after Inui's match, since you said it was pretty much the same as in the manga and it's one of my favorites.

I don't mind filler arcs so much, where you can just delete the eps you know aren't supposed to be there, but when they start changing stuff around (change is a bad word, since the anime makers don't even know how things are supposed to be) it really bothers me, since I can never get the mangaka's vision animated. :(

PoT is a great series, but sometimes in matches involving ryoma, when hes losing 5-0, and he suddenly comes out of nowhere to win, makes me think " oh, comon, give me a break". other than that its is a great series. I actually prefer anime to their respective mangas, so it doesn't really matter that much if the anime isn't exactly identical to the manga

Renji didn't seem as great as I imagined him to be... he just did what many others have done in the past and that's break Inui's data tennis... I was expecting something better than breaking data tennis... I know the match just started... so maybe he'll bust some crazy techniques in the next episode...

I've mentioned before in this thread that Inui's data tennis is flawed... and thankfully, his character develops in a good way in this episode... I really like how he has tossed his old system away... that gigantic shot he did was crazy... I like how this match is shaping up...

There are lots of impossible shots in this show... it's best to accept that these kids have super powers... :D ... I thought it was kinda funny that they animate these guys "charging up" for their shots.... like you could see their auras or whatever.... it's like they releasing fireballs or beam cannon shots.... :heh: .... but I doubt they would have enough time to "charge up" in a real tennis match...

Of course, we have Fuji Shuusuke ( 不二周助 ). Well, he opens his eyes
sometimes, when he's in "crisis mode". There are others too, with the most

I think they should join the tennis club for blind people or something, although
they do play better than many people with normal sight. :heh:

the first thing about this you always have to remember, is this is an anime. 99% of the shots they do, are impossible. For instance Fuji's hakuguei (not sure on spelling) completely violates several laws of physics, not to mention Newtons first two laws.

I just die laughing everytime I see the show.

I thought the Jyousei Shounan characters were pretty cool though, so it wasn't bad filler, at least IMO. Their #1 singles guy has that cool serve where he winds up, and who can forget "CHANGE OVER" guy.. lol. Their coach is hot as hell too.

It's much better filler than those chibi episodes that's for sure. Or the filler when the play other sports and they use their skills in it like Echizen does Twist Serve in ping pong. :heh:

Just because Wakato (change over guy) uses their play style, it doesnt mean he will also have their power and speed to compliment it. When Kaidoh started to make a comeback, he said "I've played against people who do those moves better then you." Wakato choose to change over to Kaidoh, since it is impossible to practice playing against your self.

Prince of bowling actually isn't filler (in the sense that it wasn't in the manga), and I personally find it hilarious. :D I can't help laughing when Inui keeps getting one pin every turn despite the fact that his data "should" assure that he gets a strike every time. His reaction to his first attempted strike is priceless. And then when he realizes he can't loose no matter what because of the blue vinegar that awaits the loser and the manga (don't remember the anime) emphasizes the fact that he is the maker of blue vinegar. :D

Although I think they added Horio and the rest of the bratpack to that episode in the anime so I guess it has some filler.

yeah Inui was quite funny in that episode and yes i think the anime did have something like an arrow pointing to Inui saying he made it, and Oishi says he shouldn't make stuff he can't drink himself. :) but the fact that it got to Fuji was hilarious :heh:

Some of my favourites was the cursed racket episode (don't know if it was in the manga or not) and the chibi episode with Echizen/Fuji in Inui juice hot blooded mode.

Everytime I watch an episode of Prince of Tennis, I can't help but get irritated at all the useless side-comments from everyone... granted, it's there to stretch out the matches... but it's damn annoying!

Akihara is pretty crazy.... luckily, he doesn't have any bs or soft moves... I like how he's crazier that than white haired pale guy that Echizen played against before... the crazy guys make the matches more entertaing cuz it seems like a life or death fight... Fuji didn't play too bad himself... but constantly getting nailed at the knees must hurt... I'm quite confident in Fuji taking this one and hopefully he'll bust out some techniques in the next episodes... I'm expecting his usual triple counter stuff... but it would be more exciting if he pulled out some secret attacks or something...

No doubt... that is true... the Higuma Otoshi was made for that situation... but... I think Akihara is getting Fuji in a vulnerable position... he makes Fuji come to the net and makes sure that the only shot that Fuji can do is a soft lob... then he quickly jumps up and smashes it to his knees... it's either that... or it's written that way for dramatic content...

I haven't seen the episode but from the sounds of it, I think I can explain why Fuji doesn't prevent it. It's a mild spoiler though... maybe... from a scene that was in the manga that didn't make it to the anime (takes place before these games).

Before the Rikkaidai matches Echizen challenges Kirihara, and Kirihara does all those smashes to Echizen's knee. It seems this has been moved to the Kirihara vs Fuji game with no concideration taken to Fuji's counters. (At least regarding this particular smash.) In fact, in the manga Fuji (out to avenge Echizen, since he suspects Kirihara is behind Echizen's bruised knee) mimmicks Kirihara's "knee smash" making Kirihara protect his knee thus revealing himself as the perpetrator. But Kirihara never uses it on Fuji.

Yeah, you're right. I just watched episodes 120-121, trying to catch up. Doubles 1 was way better in the manga. They left out a ton of stuff. Dissapointing. They changed the "one shot, one kill" laser beam shot to some retarded golf swing. That was just bad. I don't see why they made these changes.

Also they made Kikamaru a whiny brat in the anime. He wasn't at all one in the manga.

Just finished watching episode 125 and the match between Fuji and Kirihara has ended. They made some changes from the manga I was again kinda dissapointed about.

Some changes I didn't like. They didn't have Kirahara realize "self actualization" and start using all these other players moves. He did Echizen's twist serve but that was it. Dissapointing.

Also, they didn't have Fuji get hit in the face and lose his vision. Instead he gets hit in the knee twice.

Oh, and Fuji's sister is so hot.

There is no "competition:. They do it for fun out oftheir free time, at the pace they want. Heck, knowing that more trolls would go complain to another group for lack of speed they'd probably evenb be glad to have "competiton", and i wouldn't blame themk for that either.

I refuse to download non-AO PoT, anyway. They've done a terriffic job, and I'll stand by it. Honestly, fansubs aren't like a corporation where "your business counts" - It's for fun. It also isn't, for almost all groups, a popularity contest. The groups that do the subs to get more DL's and first-time viewers do it for the wrong reasons and have such pitiful quality.

In any case, I never gave these other PoT episodes a second thought. They're later episodes, and I don't want to spoil anything. I learned that lesson the hard way.. I was only up to episode 23 of Full Moon wo Sagashite, and got my hands on episode 50, and watched it... ANd let's say I was pissed at myself afterwards. Spoilers galore. I won't risk that again. Plus they're not AO. I stand by groups that I like. Example: Aishiteruze Baby. I download the a.f.k. versions, although out of curiosity I nabbed the later eps from Lunar since it seems like a.f.k. are taking their time. I also like Lunar, so I figured it wouldn't be so bad... And it wasn't. I like their subs, too.

THe new PoT subs, though... I dunno.. last time another group did any PoT, it was terrible... so I am untrusting.

Im from [AR]. We started subbing POT for one main reason, not because A-O does a bad job, but because we were tired of waiting for releases. We have actually spoken with members from a-o and we have no problems with them, i dont think they have any problems with us, well not that i know.

We will sub every new ep as soon as we can get them done, so at least one release a week. We are still trying to find our style so every release should be better than the last. You can get our releases from torrent, they should all come up here when released. We also have some bots in our channel serving. I dont want to add the specific channels here, or torrent links because i dont want my post getting deleted.

Also we plan to release 29+ to fill in for the missing episodes. Its just takes time. Also i doubt that our subbing is going to speed up a-o in any way, they have stated that they will release all of the eps still and keep up the quality that alot of you love. Hopefully our eps are not too far off, and if we are given some honest criticism our releases will get better.

I would like to apologize for the torrent on 147. After we got everything up and running our tracker went down. It took a few days for him to get it back up and running. Im hoping everything will be available now. If you have any issues you can direct them directly to me and ill get them taken care of. Also any additional information can come from me.

I found it hilarious to hear Ryoma speak English, it's the usual Japanese-English speech, pronounciations in half-japanese.

It'll be interesting how Ryoma will play now that he's leveled up. If he'll forget all about those skills, or if he'll stay at that super-level onwards.
It'll be a totally different league if he stays, and Seigaku wouldn't be much to train with except for Fuji and Tezuka since Ryoma seemed waaay more powerful now.

The real name of the awakening mode is "state of self articulation". It can only be used by people who have an extreme untapped tennis potential. A users body will use react instantly without thinking by using past experiences, thus allowing to copy other peoples moves. The user can also use any move he's seen, not just the ones used against him. In the manga, this "awakening mode" is accompanied by a SSJ-like glow around the person, and depletes the stamina rather quickly. Aside from Ryoma, the few other people in the manga that can do it are Sanada, Yukimura, Kirihara and a new character Chitose from Kyuushu.

A-O has been releasing rather inconsistently and people should be used to it by now. There were a couple of times they release an episode almost 'everyday' until the end of an arc. That's the way they do it.

I didn't notice any glaring translation oddities (I don't speak japanese really, so I can't say if they had any translation errors). Overall I think A-O has a fair bit better quality, but AR is good quality. And I'm very glad they picked this up, and have went back and started to fill in where we left off.

i think that the strong point of that show is that Ryoma is NOT the only main character; tezuka, momo, kikumaru, etc are as important as Echizen. so the serie is less boring, well i think so, hehe ^^

Yep the manga is still going, Volume 25 was the last release, i think the Echizen/Sanada match only just finished in that one. The anime is currently filler from ep 129 onwards, i think.

Instead of doing a straight Echizen vs Kevin match, which everyone is anticipating, they brought Kirihara into the mix. I think it's just stupid. Kirihara thinks he should be the singles one player for Japan so he confronts Echizen. If Echizen doesn't play, I will stop watching this anime =p

Akaya was complaining about how they dont know who will play at singles 1 yet. He said that he needs to know to prepare for his opponent.


Mr Baker told Fuji about Arnold's past, and basically told him that he had gone through alot of hard training to get where he was. He also told him that if Arnold lost, he would go back to that old lifestyle of getting into fights and whatnot. This was obviously with the intention to get fuji to simpathize with arnold, and perhaps go easy on him. hence, later in the match when Baker looks at fuji, he thinks, are you going to be the one to send arnold back to hell? but fuji says something along the lines of baker-san, you are the one who is holding arnold over the pit of hell

In ch241 some girl from a Hokkaidou team came to scout out Seigaku. She saw Ryoma play and told her team his weaknessess. Sakuno comes along later and acknowleges that she knew Ryoma was playing crappy on purpose to throw off the scout.

In chapter 242, the Coach of Hyotei recieves a call. The Hyotei team, execept for Atobe, goes to coaches office and the team finds out that this years national tournament is in Tokyo and hosted (i think or something) by Hyotei. They search for Abobe to tell him. Oshitari finally finds Atobe on the courts where he did a cool drive. (wtf!). Then the team comes and celebrates making it in the nationals.

Hyotei is a popular team, and it would be bad to not have them in nationals. I believe they made it in because each of the stronger sections get to bring in an extra team.

AO latest release was the 140-141 special.

W-Dreamers has HK DVD rips up to 139-149. (may be even earlier)

A-REV has theirs from 149-152. (and random eps in between).

I agree with you, that's why I don't understand a complaint about lack of character developement during a specific arc of the series. This show has none at all anyway.

I agree about the ogling. Character development? :heh: :heh: :heh: Bohahahahahahahaha! Seriously, the only thing you can gain from this show is the ogling and maybe trying to wonder if any of those damn moves work (zilch except a few standard ones you can see in typical tennis circuit).

i honestly accept the storyline, and i'm still watching it :)

only thing i don't like is the work the studio did on PoT, they cut down on the graphics so much, and the animated loops take a long time (an example of a loop: when Echizen ties his shoes, it takes hrs!).....

i think if this project (PoT) fell into the hands of a better studio, it would've been much better.

i'm still surprised that this studio (Production I.G) made this. compared to what they made in their lifetime this is not so good.

i have no intention of throwing a flame war, and sorry to any of you who are fans of that studio. i'm just placing my opinion.

The match in 120 was sooo much better in the manga....everything in the anime is totally different. It's missing 4 great scenes from the manga...


1. Flashback of how the golden pair started out
2. Eiji Special Step =new super attack formation
3. Rikkaidai pulls a "switcheroo"
4. The godly "Laser"....not some stupid golf swing

I'm pretty sure the anime got ahead of the manga during the Rikkaidai matches. Things like Yagyuu and Niou's match were completely different in the anime and manga versions. The anime didn't have any more manga to work with, so things get very different from there.

The manga was so far behind the anime that they stopped the anime. I want it to come back. TT_TT

At least they're going to be releasing the nationals as a 7(I think) episode OVA.

* Two movies were released to theaters and on DVD: "Futari no Samurai The First Game" and "Atobe Kara Okurimono" (a short movie that screened with "Futari no Samurai")
* Radio Show "Tennis no Oujisama on the Radio" (Rajipuri) is still going weekly and is almost to their 150th weekly show.
* Character vocal CD singles/albums are still being released. There's at least one new one per month. This December/January's CDs are:
----"Progress": a Ryoma mini-album featuring a Christmas song with mangaka Konomi Takeshi (12/24)
---- "Musical Tennis no Oujisama Best Actor Series" volume 001 and 002. These are Tezuka and Atobe albums, but sung by the guys who played Tezuka and Atobe in the latest Prince of Tennis musical. (12/19)
---- "Brand New Days" by the 3Guava Trio (Marui Bunta, Akutagawa Jiroh, and Aoi Kentarou). This song was featured in the PoT movie "Atobe Kara Okurimono". (1/1)
---- "Go Go Meganes" by the MEGANEs (megane means glasses). This is a strange group made up of Tezuka Kunimitsu, Inui Sadaharu, and Oshitari Yuushi. (1/1)

* Prince of Tennis musicals are still going strong and continuing this winter. "Imperial Match Hyotei" winter version will play live in Japan in January. There were three musicals performed/released on DVD in 2005. (Yamabuki, Hyotei, and the comedy concert Dream Live 2nd). The Hyotei musical was amazing!!
* Live Action movie coming out next year, featuring many members of the PoT musical's cast (including former cast). Some of the actresses in the movie are J-Pop singers. o_o
* OVA "Tennis no Oujisama: Zenkoku Taikai Hen" vol. 1, an OVA episode featuring the Nationals matches, comes out on DVD in Japan in March 2006 (unless they change the release date). Rumors say that this OVA will be 7 volumes long.
* Manga is at volume 31 in volume form. Continuing strong in weekly Shonen Jump!
* Konami has released a LOT of video games (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/tenipuri/) for this series. They're very fun! The newest game (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/tenipuri/gakuensai/index.html) comes out this month and is a festival/dating sim.

Prince of Tennis is so great. ^_^ Always has a billion things going on at once. If you only keep up with the TV anime, you're missing out!

To be more accurate, volume 31 has just been released, and Seigaku is now in the quarter-finals with a re-match with Hyoutei. (Hyoutei were invited back in the nationals as a wild-card, as Tokyo gets to host the national in the story, so Tokyo gets an extra wild-card slot. )

Speaking of which, I have to go and catch up my PoT, like Naruto, another slow paced manga, they're more fun to read if you read them in one bundle.

The TV series has a total of 178 episodes. It stops at episode 178 because the anime was too far ahead of the manga for them to make more anime. So though the anime is over, the manga is continuing the story.

Also, Prince of Tennis news of the day:

* Shishido Ryo (from Hyotei) is getting his own full album in 2006. I think it'll be released around February, since there will be events related to the album in Japan around that time...
* Also in February 2006, they will re-release the previous two years' versions of the song "Valentine Kiss". For those that don't know, every year on Valentines Day, they release different versions of this Valentine song. The first version of this song was sung by Atobe (with Kabaji background vocals), and last year's version was sung by Oshitari (With Shishido+Ohtori background vocals). Hopefully they'll also release a new version of the song this year... it's tradition!!
* Konomi Takeshi (the author/mangaka of Prince of Tennis) will be appearing in the live action Prince of Tennis movie. He also sings a duet with Ryoma called "Go" in Ryoma's album, which was released yesterday (he's a surprisingly good singer! o_o talented guy)
* Yukimura announced as a secret character in the new Prince of Tennis game (the one I linked in my last news post)

Does that mean that there is a possibility that it will carry on past 178??? when the manga catches up?
also is there a place where i can get the games of it? the konami site is all in japanese/chinese (soz i dont know the difference lol) and if there was one in english i would really appreciate it!

Of course the konami site is all in Japanese :P All of the games are in Japanese, too. I order my Prince of Tennis games through Play-Asia.com (http://www.play-asia.com/). They have a good selection of games and have really cheap shipping. Most Prince of Tennis games are "greatest hits", so you can buy them at reduced prices (around $20 instead of the original Japanese price of around $60). And don't worry about the price being drawn on the greatest hits box art... the box cover is reversible with the clean original art on the other side ^_^ But if I were you I'd research what game you want on the Konami site before making a purchase (since a lot of the games are dating sims that are almost completely Japanese text adventures! But those are a lot of fun, too)

(and please note that if you try to run a Japanese game on an American Playstation/Playstation 2, the game WILL NOT WORK because of region coding!! You either have to own a Japanese console or have your Playstation/Playstation 2 modified to play foreign games)

Speaking of the Prince of Tennis manga, I hear that it's going to go on a break for awhile because the mangaka Konomi-sensei was injured.

And though it would be awesome if they'd continue the TV series past 178 (because the filler episodes were my favorite parts), I doubt they'll do that. I think they're just going to stick to animating major events. They're releasing the nationals (current manga arc) as multiple OVAs instead of continuing the TV series, unfortunately...

haha..yeah i guess so..however OVA is still betta den nth right??im actually glad that the prince of tennis story arc is still continuing...i cant imagine wad is it like not to have prince of tennis...haha..im terribly hooked up to princce of tennis..im still trying to find the vcd or dvd of the part 2 of the movie though..atobe's gift...since the movie dat i bought only consists of futari no samurai..=(

They're showing the nationals as they happen in the manga. I assume the US Open stuff is from the anime only (which I haven't finished because I'm stubborn and only watch AnimeOtakus' releases).

I'm just excited that we'll see new teams being animated. ^_^ Looks like they put up the OVA DVD cover on the official tenipuri site (http://www.tenipuri.com/main.html). There's a picture of the live action movie cast in the corner, too.

I've seen the movie subbed on DVD, too, but those are Chinese bootlegs. Not only are the subs terrible quality, but by buying bootleg DVDs (there are NO official Prince of Tennis DVDs that have English subtitles), you're supporting illegal bootlegging.
