Handsome look, good built body, smart, can make a girl fall for him if he wanted to. Has a pure and super adorable little demon sister by his side and an awesome mom.
OK, I guess we can overlook his father. Can he be more perfect?
When the anime first came out, there were many complaints by manga readers (including me) that he blushed too often, or in general wasn't as "cool" as we had pictured him. Having actually gone back and reread the first few chapters though, it doesn't seem too different. Yet still the manga readers have this image of him as "the guy who doesn't blush when he should". Why is this? Because of his character development throughout the series!
Over time, Keima has gone from a guy who blushes to a guy who doesn't blush. Honestly, this seems backwards, in a certain sense. Isn't this story supposed to be about the guy who's detached from the real world being forced to confront the real world and maybe slowly opening up? So why then does he systemically become more detached from the real world over time? The simple answer is that he's treating the real like a game, and it's consistently responding like a game. Every capture he does reinforces his notion that reality is a badly written game until he eventually becomes completely comfortable treating it like that.
If you think about it, this is a very dark direction for his character to go in. The guy who's supposed to open up as the story goes on instead closes his heart more and more and becomes emotionally detached from everything. He's like the robot girl who forgets the emotions that she started the story with and a becomes a logical computer, truly a poorly written game. That said, it's possible the author is aware of this given recent developments like Akari. That whole mini-arc seemed explicitly designed to stop this development.

I will prefer to discuss this over in the manga thread. Because even if this is a sub-forum, it's still an anime sub-forum.
Anyway, to make it short and limit any potential spoiler on future event...
I don't see the point for Keima to "confront the real world ", yet. Remember that, to him the 2D is his world, and if he can assimilate the real world to his own world (even if he think the world is simply a messed-up game) then wouldn't that be the 1st step for whatever the ending is heading to?
How can he react in this world using 2-D knowledge would depend on his ability. But isn't the recent manga chapters (or even recent anime episodes) showed that he still have the ability to tackle the real world problems with his own way?
And if you reread the ending of a certain teacher or normal girl, you may realise that Keima's not simply a case of society withdraw that need help to change. He know well enough what is he doing and how the society seen him. And i bet many of us have to admire him for his personality

I still say his dad is Austin Powers.:meh:

I must say that he has actually changed the way I view things in life/games/anime and manga. I actually never thought about things like "routes", "events" etc. I only realised that it was true after I read the manga and decided to do a little predicting of my own and I was surprised at the result.
His guts to do the outrageous things he did is rather admirable even more so that he can actually do these kinds of things while putting on a straight face(Ayumi's arc). His dedication to characters from the game world is admirable as well and how he actually views what's inside and outside. Needless to say, his, "God-Capturing mode", is just...:heh:
*snip*
Actually, I thought it was fairly normal. No matter how much he wants to escape from the real, he is still real,a human, a growing boy at that. It's normal for him to blush. I mean, you can't say that you will not have any reaction when you experience things/encounters like having your face is about an inch away from a girl's face or when a girl suddenly holds your hands etc.
I don't think it actually changes into anything extreme like getting more detached from the real world. It's just more of a "getting used to it" part, though the Akari arc is kinda negates what I said though.

This is Lelouch's rip off
No... Keima is in a class of his own :p
He is a god after all.
What cha guys talkin about???
There's only one word to describe Keima!!!
GOD-LIKE!
I still say his dad is Austin Powers.:meh:
No doubt about it. Keima is the kid of Austin Powers and a biker girl. No wonder that he's totally disturbed by reality and retracted himself into the 2D world :heh:

I think the discussion of Keima attachment, deteachment of the real world is interesting. We all know that eventually Keima will open up to the real world, as it is highly unlikely that at the end of the series Keima is still as cold as he was. However, the whole charm point of Keima is that he is cold
Love it when he is totally unemotional of seeing "herself" naked in Yui's arc, and squeeze other boobs as a "plot development"
When Keima turns "warm", he loses his charm point and make him not different from regular. boring harem character anymore. I experience this in Ouran Highschool Host club - When Haruhi became flustered with Tamaki, she loses her charm point and become a boring shoujo character, which I drop the manga couple charters after that.
Let's see how the author of TWGOK approach that.

He deserves his own religion.
^in a way, he already does
1. Inside his head, the debates between certain fractions also include religious ones.
2. the arc where they hail god's greatness for changing the galge-market, and his divine website

@LeaD36: Let's just wait for those chapters... they gonna be so fillers, but so fun in the same time.
Too bad, we probably can't see them in anime, yet

Keima...uhm...is one heck of a character. He's probably rich to have bought one PSP every episode. XD
Yes, but it's even scarier to think he can afford all these games... after all, he has already captured 10.000+ heroines.
I'm not sure how many heroines are in a game in average but if you divide that amount by 10 girls each game it's still around 1k games.
And since his PFP already once broke in the first episode, it's safe to say that he has several PFPs with him.

Keima's family is rich.
His grandfather is a famous pottery/ clay artist and he absolutely adore Keima. My speculation is that Keima get most of his money from him

Keima probably got free games and goods also, considering how much helps he provided to the gaming community
They have to offer God something, right? :D

i'm so looking forward to TWGOK fillers LOL
besides is there much to discuss about someone, who is not only called god, but can actually act according to his title? The first potent god in his own way imo.

Apparently Austin Powers earns pretty well, so that his son can not only buy 1k+ games, but also several handhelds :D

I haven't read the manga, but I'd say that's highly unlikely. In Japan, there are hardly any women in well-earning high positions.

Isn't Keima's mother owned a cafe? But I don't think Keima's mother the type who give unlimited fund to her son for games. Unless you are talking about Keima embezzling the money from the cafe..........
I think Keima's reputation is more like a urban legend that everyone heard of but nobody knows for sure. We see Keima go shopping alot so he didn't receive support from the game industry (otherwise Keima will be playing samples given by the industry and don't need to shop
But all these are only speculations. I don't recall the anime or even manga mention how Keima can buy all these games.
Minor spoiler but has anyone noticed that Keima has no guy friends or companions he talks to on a daily basis? Of course he has his website where he gives hints but those people aren't really his companions. All the people Keima interacts with on a daily basis are "real world" females.

1) Keima's mother is proven to be a softie who spoils Keima too much and forgives Keima's father considering what he "did".
2) M Funds
3) 8 GBA + 100 Batteries when he was a kid. So that excludes the fact he got sponsored ( Unless he already has his website up during that time which is impossible)
4) No knowledge of what Keima's father does for a living.
While I would say there's a chance for him to be using funds from his grandfather, there's a higher chance for him to be using his Mother's funds

Even before the appearance of Elsie, he wasn't talking to anyone. Who needs a friend when your a god...

She?
Anyways, what's so hypocritical about him? The fact that he doesn't want anything to do with the 3D world?
Well, he still has to function in it of course, that can't help that
Or is it the blushing and mingling with these girls that you're talking about?
Well thankfully he's not some unfeeling robot, so getting used to the company of young ladies like this will make him uncomfortable.
Despite being a god and having the ability to make any girls wet, he sure has trouble figuring out how girls feel about him. I mean in this current arc he is literally trying to piss girls off intentionally.

It's not like he wants to have friends anyways.

In fact, if his head is not on the line, then he will not bother to react with the "real" anyway...
It's a real surprise that he still can hold a normal conversation before he met Elsie
It's not like he wants to have friends anyways.
And if I remember correctly, Maijima High used to be a girls only school so the chances are even less for him to interact with males.
I hope I'm not mixing the girls only fact up with another anime though. lol:heh:
No, you're not. The anime omitted that description, though it's not really important in the end. I think Keima just doesn't enjoy talking to people.

Of course he has trouble to understand real girls - his "Capturing God" abilities refer exclusively to *2D* girls! Until Elsie came, he didn't have any contact with real girls whatsoever.
When he's to capture real girls, he applies his 2D girl abilities to them, which can go wrong badly - like when he was attacked by Mio's driver that one time :heh:
Let me tell you guys something good!
Read Ch. 94
Something like friends, it's not like you really need them right?
I don't have any and I'm not troubled by that.
Well, I doubt non manga readers will look up a chapter just for that, especially that far into the story. And manga readers get the point without your mention.:heh:
Anyway, episode 4 gave a good insight on Keima's being, though I would have personally preferred the adapation of the chapter right after Mio's capture, nonetheless this was nice.

He had trouble understanding anyone in the real world. Just like his recent capture attempt with Akari, people don't react the way Keima expects them to react. He can't save and reload in the real world, and if there's a bad flag or a "route" sealed off, he has to run with it. People don't respond the way Keima wants them to. It'd be fine if Keima knows that there would be a happy ending for him to see, but it's too difficult for him to predict most of the time. Thus, he writes the real world as a bad game and doesn't even bother.
However, with the contract on his neck, he had to apply his 2D knowledge to a 3D world, and it still worked most of the time. When it didn't work the way Keima wanted it to, he adapted accordingly and didn't give up. He's doing a lot better in the real world than he ever expected to before.

Well with playing the capturing game, he will eventually come to understand that nothing goes the way he wants it to, or like how the girls react in the games that he plays. Like in Episode 4 where he said that the Heroines are not bad, but the games are, like you said here Shadow5YA. But since hes forced to play this "bad game" or else get his head chopped off.

Just getting that feeling that his knowledge in the 2D world will eventually not work on 1 girl in the 3D world... Just a feeling.

Well it's possible. But Keima's an intelligent guy himself. So for example when he confessed to Mio and it turned out unlike what he expected, he immediately can pick up something wrong with the way Mio react, rather than doubt his ability...
In another words, he is born to be a womanizer.... But simply not interested in 3D world where he can apply and refine his gifted ability :D

Was it explained why he eventually turned to the 2D world yet? I think that his abilities as a womanizer instantly failed the first time he tried the 3D world, which lead him to the 2D world of game heroines. But this is a positive thing in a way, he wasnt exactly born as a womanizer (he does have the appearance though :heh:) but he gets his ideas generally from the 2D world, which he played so much, theres bound to be so many hints to "capture" the heroines for the almighty Capturing God :p
Sorry if this was already discussed...

Actually I believed he was born a gamer and was disinterested in the real world since the beginning. Like you said, it might be a good thing since if he was interested in real girls AND he was the gamer that he is, he would certainly end up being like Makoto. <--Womanizer among womanizer among womanizer
It's important to realize that Keima is just crazy. Trying to attribute his attitude to anything that happened in his past is missing the whole point of the character. He's just a weird guy.

I see Keima like a Light Yagami (Death Note).
A magnificient bastard in a Harem setting.
Except he doesn't try to bend the world to his ideals.
He has chosen to let it to those who are enjoying it, and has built his very own.
This aside, he's a highly intelligent, extremely strongwilled character.
He's just too idealistic to accept the real world, with his lies, hypocrisy and mocked feelings.
He might be the (un)holy fusion between Rorschach (no compromise!), Sheldon Cooper (Mr BetterThanUallTogether) and Gregory House (world sux... and you too!).

The question is... Did he know about the bug for the game before he bought it? If so it just shows how passionate he is towards his heroines, and how dedicated he is to finally see the ending. Even if its sorta creepy, its also kinda cool in some ways.
I mean... If he bought the game, knowing about the bug and everyone giving up on it, then it would just show that he really wants to finally reach the endings to his heroines no matter what. If he did not know about the bug until he first played it, it would show that he is truly dedicated in his games o.o

I think he knew about the bug before he bought it. He talked about how no one had been able to beat the game before (because of the bug), and thus he bought it to find out it it's really that hard.

I'm not saying anything happened in his past. Some chapter with his mom showed that Keima had an obsessive interest in games since he was a baby. What I'm saying is that his weirdness is the fact that he's never had an interest in the real world.

If thats true, its not generally the fact that he never had an interest in the real world in the first place. It was just the fact that he was influenced by gaming before he even had a chance to experience the real world (even though he makes those comments about the real world) till Elsie came in.

It's actually both.
He knew about how ridiculuously hard that game was that no one has completed it, and even as he finally realizes the problem (the stupid bug), he still persists to finish it.

Anybody here watching Ore no Imouto?
If so, what do people think of the idea of how Keima would interact with Kirino (from the Ore no Imouto anime)? I have to admit I've been kind of fascinated lately by the idea of such a crossover.
Both of these characters are majorly into eroges, and it's not hard to see how Kirino might idolize a master eroge player like Keima.
On the other hand, though, Kirino is one of those dreaded "3D Idols" that Keima doesn't like. ;)
It might be interesting to see what would happen if they met in person. Even more interesting, perhaps, if they met in person after Kirino got to know Keima well over the internet from getting eroge advice from him. :heh:

I can't think of how Kirino react to male character, or Keima in this case, to say the truth...
She could debate with Keima about eroge, but she's still a million years early (in games) to do so
She may take Elsie home through.

She's a fashion model, nothing more. Since Keima doesn't read girl's fashion magazines, he'd never know. Even if he knew, I doubt he'd care.
If the two met, Keima would show his usual reaction to 3D girls and completely ignore her :heh:
Then, Kirino would look what he's playing there and find it's the latest eroge, and ask him something about it (something she has a problem with). Keima would be quite surprised at first, but then explain just all too happily. After that, the two would easily become best friends. They might even become lovers, if Keima drops his dislike of 3D girls after finding one who actually shares his hobby :D

I think he knew about the bug before he bought it. He talked about how no one had been able to beat the game before (because of the bug), and thus he bought it to find out it it's really that hard.
I think he bought the game and later learned of the bug. At the very least, the anime shows a flashback of him carrying home the First Release of the game, which I would think means he bought it opening week, if not opening day. He probably bought it first day but didn't play it immediately. I do it all the time with games, but even after learning about the bug, he just kept playing to save the heroine.
I will say, though, that he is sort of the ideal god: someone who has seen enough of people's circumstances to be able to help them no matter what. True, he's only seen enough circumstances in video game-form, and the devil has to make him help the people, but hey, beggars can't be god-choosers.
In one of the Keima filler chapters, it is shown that Keima actually buys all the galges that come out on their release days and usually has them beat within a few hours. Some groups of gamers tried to grab all the games and beat him as a group and still failed. So it is kind of weird that Keima would have waited or something before playing that game.
Of course having to capture girls probably eats into his available time.

He is one of my favorite anime and manga characters. Intelligent, cold, and a gamer till the end of his life, that's what I like of him as a character.
Would love to see his Capturing God Mode in the anime. Epic Win when he does that.

My theory is that the bugged game is a really old game (think Tokimeki memorial). It is released before he is the capturing god (or maybe even before he was born). Thus he didn't beat it on the first day of release. He knows the bugs and still buy and challenge the game because he is the capturing god who won't abandon any heroine.
Keima is the type of person who would buy both version if there are first and second release available.

Kirino isn't an idol, where'd you get that from? :twitch:

Nice proposition, but Kirino is a closet-otaku, and she only loves sis-con eroge, not unless Keima...somehow was playing sis-con PFP eroge at the time. XD Oh God...Elsie. XD

P.S. He bought the game knowing no one can beat it. Besides, I wonder if he has already finished the game?

Either that he was pretty broke at that time to buy the game, or that he was too busy capturing the 2nd escaped soul. Pretty hard to tell, I would have thought that it was because of the constant playing and getting bugs when he got it on release date that kept him distracted. But the game was released for quite awhile, and he only played it for awhile.. So its pretty hard to tell.
Think of him more as a gallant knight of some sort. He's realizing that not only do the girls in the dating sims he plays have stories and secrets that they want to tell people, but girls in real life do too. He seems to have this sense of duty driving him to hear the stories of these troubled girls, and then make them realize that their troubles are only as troubling as they allow them to be.

the latest episode of makes me think that the Kami in the anime looks stupid -_-......
and I don't know. I like the voice but the way it cracks jokes every here and their and start shouting..... he doesn't look that awesome.
P.S. He bought the game knowing no one can beat it. Besides, I wonder if he has already finished the game?
Considering Keima's stubborn personality, he must've finished it already.

I bet it's custom-made. Look at that battery life!
It's just a PSP-3000 with a keyboard. =/ Although I'm pretty much convinced that the battery must be of extremely high quality 'cus you know...
Don't think this will be animated since it's like an omake but for safety reasons...
In volume 3 , the specifics of PFP is mentioned in 2 parts. A PFP Advertisement (Following by QQ from Keima) and the author's notes on PFP.
PFP Advertisement:
1) Wide and beautiful screen
2) Wireless internet connection
3) Hundreds of games
4) Launched on 11/11 (Year not mentioned)
5) Cost price at 59,800 Yen
Keima complaining it is too expensive and won't sell at all.
Author's notes:
PLAY FIELD PERSONAL
A portable console sold by NEK, the term PFP is widely known.
Designed and researched with full effort by the top company in IT field, NEK after they saw the potential market in portable consoles. For NEK, it is the first time designing the portable console. Equipped with color LCD, with memory card slots, linkable with computer and having a QWERTY keyboard. It can be said the whole R&D was involved in designing the finished product.
However, with the high price of 59,800 Yen as publicity, the sales remain low. Making it worse is the fact that the games releases keep postponing, or are remakes, which caused low interest in players. This reminds people of the fact that NEK might repeat the same mistakes of PLAY FIELD (T/N: Did Sony had a bad history with their PS1?)
1 Year after the release of PFP, the huge support from NEK for the Free Homebrew Development Software starts to have effect. With web gamers who believe in the unlimited possiblity of the PFP, after huge rounds of effort, started producing great games. With the market aimed towards otakus, the console was reborn. Together with the effect of the popular website "Capturing God", it became the console most suitable for playing galge, causing a rise to its sales.
Currently, the batteries sold are improved. The 2nd version of PFP, which removed some of the specifications(T/N: PSPGo?) is sold at 29,800 Yen.
Memo:
It's not S, it's F! It's called the PFP......! Although in my one-shot, the name " PC[]FX P[]rtable" was used to call PFP, but for serialization, the name was upgraded. Also, heavy gamers will self modify their PFP to give an upgrade, so Keima's PFP may have functions that are never seen before......
Keima:
Great quality of graphics! Suitable for playing PFP!
Fast loading speed and no noises!
Tri Core CPU even though it feels strange~
Through the keyboard I can update the website!
(Can't translate the last speech bubble as I don't understand it)
However the biggest problem is the battery can only last 2.5 hours.
If connected to WIFI constantly, it will run out of battery very fast~
I never assumed his batteries are h4x, they simply don't bother showing the times he does change them.
Don't think this will be animated since it's like an omake but for safety reasons...

A lot becomes clear then. It's *not* meant as an allusion of Sony and their Psp, but of Nec, who created the PC-FX console. While the PC-FX was somewhat popular in Japan, it's pretty much unknown outside of Japan. It's predecessor was the PC Engine which was very successful in Japan, but likewise nearly completely unknown outside of Japan.
The Pfp is meant as a portable version of the PC-FX and was thus originally named "PC-FX Portable", which was later shortened to Pfp, incidentally giving the wrong idea it would've something to do with Sony's Psp (which it *doesn't*).
More info on the PC-FX:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC-FX
As the PC-FX struggled, NEC became far more liberal than most companies with regard to the titles that it allowed to be released for the platform in an attempt to get whatever development support they could. As a result, the PC-FX has gained quite a reputation for its abundance of gal games and dating simulation titles. It also had a handful of standard action games, RPGs, and strategy games, but most titles require a fair amount of Japanese knowledge to play.
Galge is what we see Keima playing all the time, so it fits very well.
