I'm not otakuish to the point I know their names

just go to www.animenfo.com and search for the anime, then it shows the name of the voice actor next to the character name

Cool. Thanks kj1980.
The seiyuu for Chidori does Nenene? Didn't know that, but cool never-the-less.
Now that I think about it, they do sound alike.

Nabatame Hitomi. She was a former stage actress-turned voice actress who first "major" debuted as Arcueid in "Shingetsutan Tsukihime." She also plays the role of Yuna in "Maburaho" and Torii Eriko (Rosa Foetida) in "Maria-sama ga Miteru."

For the Kanji-friendly/oriented people,^^ here's my favorite Seiyuus^^

関智一: Seki Tomokazu
G-Gundam: Domon Kashu
Gundam Seed: Izak Juell
Among many, many incredibly 熱血 lines and characters ;_;

Besides the Chobits credit, she is also the voice of

There are many more but these are my top ones so far^^

Also, the voice of Sanada Yukimura--緒方恵美 Ogata Megumi has also done extensive work in "Teen-Age Boys" voice, most notably as Ikari Shinji of Evangelion fame, Kuruma of Yuyu Hakusho, even Yugi in--the original, not U.S. butchered--Yu-Gi-Oh! among her immense reportoire. She is truly a prolific and one of my favorite Seiyuu^^

First exposure to Seki Tomokazu for me was in Card Captor Sakura (Kinomoto Touya). Second-most recent exposure was in Full Metal Panic (Sagara Sousuke). Most recent exposure was in Pretty Cure (Mepple).

Yeah, I'm slightly amused at the sudden change in roles.

Iwao Junko has an interesting voice, in the few roles I remember her in. Kind of quiet and cute.

My favorite seiyuu is Miyamura Yuko (NG Evangelion - Asuka Langley, Ajimu - Takemoto) and my second favorite is Nabatame Hitomi (Maburaho - Yuna, Tsukihime - Arcueid). In other words, I like the ones who are not overly used with the exception of Hayashibara Megumi (NG Evangelion - Rei). My least favorite is Horie Yui (Love Hina - Narusegawa Naru), I can't stand her! I can't, for the life of me, figure out why they can't or won't use new talents in most of the animes. Is it for marketing reasons? The cast of Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien did a pretty good job even though they were new to anime voice acting.(I know they do a lot of ero voice acting but that doesn't count)

I don't know about you guys but whenver I hear someone overly used such as Horie Yui, I automatically think of Lova Hina which totally takes me out of whatever anime I was watching at the time.

Mine are:

Inoue Kikuko - Especially in Onegai Teacher(Mizuho), Ah My Goddess(Belldandy), i think her voice really suits these 2 characters.

Yukino Satsuki - Especially in FMP(Chidori), Hmm now that i think about it most of the characters she does look alike, they normally boss the others around and argue a lot but in the end they are all emotional.

Most of the seiyuu usually get chosen for a series based on the previous acting job they did. And producers are pretty much already has an idea what kind of voice talent they need. So it's nothing strange if some seiyuu keep getting certain type of role they really good at. She did a great job as Chidori. ^^

Enomoto Atsuko (Kare Kano- Miyazawa Yukino, Daa Daa Daa- Konishi Aya)

Ogasawara Akiko (Twin Spica- Asumi, Figure 17- Shinna Tsubasa)

Male:

although many are really really really great, but............
Ishida Akira is my big favorite >w<

Kurama no Miko2003

Ishida Akira (see previous posts for roles)

Midorikawa Hikaru (Zelgadis/Slayers, Heero Yuy/Gundam Wing, Tamahome/Fushigi Yuugi)

Ogata Megumi (Kurama/Yuu Yuu Hakusho, Shinji/Evangelion, Princess Emeraude/Magic Knight Rayeart, Eagle/Rayearth 2)

Sakamoto Maaya (Kanzaki Hitomi/Escaflowne, Nai Card/CardCaptor Sakura Movie 2, Mishima/RahXephon)

Hayashibara Megumi (see previous posts for roles)

Orikasa Ai (Ryoko/Tenchi Muyo, Quatre Raberba Winner/Gundam Wing)

I have a general tendency to like seiyuu who can sing; since I can't always afford to invest in buying the DVDs for an entire show, I usually settle for getting OSTs that have image songs (sung by the seiyuu themselves, of course) on them. And as a result, being a good vocalist generally makes me like a certain voice better, so that's what I use as a way to choose my favorites. Although oddly enough, even though I really don't like what I've heard of Ishida Akira's singing, he still ranks as a favorite (either that or Xellos's image songs aren't a good representative of his skills as a vocalist). But that may be because both Chrno and Athrun are currently on my favorite male anime character list at the moment . . .

And as far as I know, with the exception of Ishida Akira, all of them are recording artists . . . or at least they've released a few solo CDs and singles. I know Hayashibara Megumi and Sakamoto Maaya have been releasing CDs as recent as this year. (I'm not sure about Hayashibara's discography, but I know Sakamoto has at least 5 or 6 CDs out . . .)

堀江由衣 (Horie Yui) - Naru from Love Hina, Kotori from Da Capo, Yuya from Samurai Deeper Kyo.

三石琴乃 (Mitsuishi Kotono) - Excel from Excel Saga, Misato from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Kanzaki Urumi from GTO.

For me it would be:

Orikasa Ai
Mastumoto Rica: Outlaw Star/Jim Hawking, Dirty Pair Flash/Kei.
Hayashibara Megumi (well over 100 roles, I use to have a web fan web page for her)
{The above 3 are also really good singers, (I really like Rica Mastumoto), and I have managed to get all of thier solo albums.}
Mitsuishi Kotono : Excel, Misato/NGE, Mink/Drsagon Half, Ebichu, Sailor Moon.

And a few others that I know by voice but not by name.

I found this site a while ago, and while it may not interest you, I think it's very well layed out. Either go by series or by voice actor, and for each seiyuu it lists all (or many of) their roles. Very interesting to compare and make connections between roles and characters etc. Certainly I've enjoyed having a look.

I don't have a personal favourite though.

Favourite Japanese VA's:

Tomokazu Seki
Toshihiko Seki
Kotono Mitsuishi
Satsuki Yukino
Koyasu Takehito
Rie Tanaka
Houko Kuwashima
Akira Ishida
Hoshi Souichiro
Aya Hisakawa (Not sure if it's spelled right but she played Haruka in RahXephon)

Just about any anime with these voice actors in them, will pretty much get my attention.

Favourite English VA's:

Just about everybody from ADV's Industrial Smoke & Mirrors. These guys know how to make a good DUB. Other VA's I like are... Scott McNeil, Kirby Morrow, Brad Swaile, Lisa Ann Beley & Wendee Lee.

Seki Tomokazu!!! he's definetly my favorite. I actually got to "meet" him at ax2004. I first saw him at a signing, then that night we were watching fireworks on top of the parking lot for the Hilton and he was there!!! There was probably 20 people on top of the parking garage too. My friends kept trying to get me to go over and say hi and get my picture with him, but i was too chicken. Anyways, the next day I went to the open autograph session and got his autograph on my Gravitation DVD 2 and my Kyo hat. I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm a stalker cause I think he may have recognized me as the weird girl at the fireworks that was staring at him, then walking towards him and veering off again.... oh well.

Nanri Yuuka is fast becoming a new star in anime CV and singer, and I like her voice a lot. I like her voice ever since Soma Megumi of the Memories Off 2nd game, and I love the Megumi theme song by her, Hearts of Two. and now I love her voice as Henrietta and her songs in MADLAX, and of course Akatsuki no Kuruma in SEED ;)

Fumiko Orikasa - I wonder why no one mentions her, I love her voice, she's very versatile --- I like her roles as Pacifica - Scrapped Princess, Chise - Saishuu Heiki Kanojo, Kirara - Samurai 7, Ciel - Tsukihime (and also sung the ED)

Maaya Sakamoto - Mishima Reika (Rahxephon), and I love her songs like Hemisphere from Rahxephon and Gravity from Wolf's Rain

Rie Tanaka - I love Chi from Chobits and Lacus from Gundam SEED, and her songs as well.

Ayako Kawasumi - I like Kurau(Kurau) and Aoi (Ai Yori Aoshi)

Kaori Shimizu - she was awesome in her debut role - Lain (Serial Experiments Lain), she was only 15 back then.

Romi Paku - she is one of those female seiyuu who always voices male characters, Loran (Turn A Gundam), Ed (Fullmetal Alchemist).

Male:

Tomokazu Seki - my most favorite male seiyuu, Sousuke Sagara is the coolest anime character IMO

And the English VA for Spike (Cowboy Bebop) is awesome too, his name is Steven Jay Blum I think.

I did :P She is perhaps one of 2 female seiyuu that has not been typecast in the industry. Thing is, Gonzo Digimations have been using her services a lot- so much I feels the girl is their lead seiyuu whenever it comes to their major productions. Anyway, still think she was at her absolute best playing the young Chiyoko in Millennium Actress- lost count how many different roles, personalities and emotions she took on here. Must be seen to be believed. The only character she hasn't done so far is a male :D...

The other is of course Hisakawa Aya and everyone should check her Tenjo Tenge role as Natsume Maya. One moment she'll use her CCS Keroberos voice to nag in chibi, the next she goes into violent PMS b1ach mode when @$$ whupping the opposition. Most impressed by her Nakajima Yoko in 12 Kingdoms. I absolutely hated this character for about the first 5 episodes for the constant whine than came out- then the character changed with some really extreme paranoia before settling into the backbone of titanium steel mode. Great switch and a very difficult performance to carry.

Male seiyuu with this sort of range: Takehito Koyasu. Didn't think it was possible for someone to do brooding male [Fist of North Star's Kenshiro] AND effeminate hentai [Mahou Tsukai Tai] till I heard this guy in action :twitch: Wheter or not it's talent or skill he belongs in a league of his own.

Hmm... i like mostly Girls seiyuu....

1. Megumi Hayashibara. (Ya shes old but shes rocks)
2. Kawasumi Ayako. (I couldn't resist her beauty and beautifull voice)
3. Horie Yui. (Well, how could i forget her??)
4. Orikasa Fumiko. (She's cute ^_^ i mean her voice)
5. Inoue kikuko. (I really fallen for her voice)
6. Mizuki Hana. (Yipee... Aria is SP, Mina in Happy Lesson, and Yuufa in Ragnarok... man shes is one that cannot be resist)
7. Kakazu Yumi. (Haruka is SP and Dita in Vandread, isn't she's just perfect?)
8. Kuwatani Natsuko. (I love Karen in SP so i got to love her seiyuu...)

Thats probably all....but there's still some that i couldn't recall...

I have lots of them, but I can't remember all, so I just give you a few of the greatest IMO(note: have only seen about 40 series)

Yukino Satsuki - Tina Foster(AYA), Chidori(FMP), Mutsumi(Love Hina) etc.

Inoue Kikuko - Belldandy(A!MG), Chitose(Chobits), Mizuho(Onegai Teacher/Twins) etc.

Tanaka Rie - Chii(Chobits), Miki(FMP), Mizuhara(Azumanga) etc.

Mitsuishi Kotono - Misato(NGE) etc.

Ohara Sayaka - Raquel(Scrapped Princess), Kaede(Onegai Teacher), Kasugano Haruka(Midori no Hibi) etc.

Out of these I like Yukino Satsuki the most.(Tina is my favourite character)

Other seiyuu worth mentioning and have only appeared recently:

The current voice of the cute belongs to Haruka Momoi [Nurse Witch Komugi, Tama-chan in Bottle Fairy and Paranoia Agent's demon plushie]. But she's taken ill recently and news of the girl's condition is rather sparse of late. :(

I like Ryou Hirohashi for some odd reason. She hit the ground running as Rakka in Haibane Renmei [first role] and was suitably energetic as the unsinkable [and terminally dense :heh:] Naegino Sora for Kaleidostar. Good showing for all :D

Mai Nakahara has given solid performances as well [lead femme in both Midori no Hibi and Godannar] so it's quite a suprise to see her take on the role of an arrant and annoying primadonna to the hilt [May Wong- Kaleidostar]. Good sign when someone can play such a contrasting range of personality types.

For someone I left out earlier. There is another good reason why I like Ayako Kawasumi so much as well. She's perhaps the first I've heard of a seiyuu contributing to the majority of the musical score for an anime [the original pieces in Piano were all hers]. Great character range AND skills in a musical instrument :D and I've been dying to find the OST for this.

I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm a stalker cause I think he may have recognized me as the weird girl at the fireworks that was staring at him, then walking towards him and veering off again.... oh well.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU are SOO LUCKIE!!.. to see him.. while watching fireworks... *cries!*..i din get to see fireworks ...nor stare at Seki Tomokazu while he watches fireworks... *sobs*

Favorites, huh? Hmmm. (Someone please correct if I got some of the names wrong.)

:: Female ::

Aya Hisakawa - for her elegant and mature roles
Kikuko Inoue - for her charming, big sister appeal
Fumiko Orikasa - for the clarity of her cute voice

:: Male ::

Ryuusei Nakao - for his roles in Hundred Stories and Gakkou no Kaidan!
Toshihiko Seki - for simply sounding cool and recognizable

I have other favorites, but they're mostly due to a specific character that was played. So, I guess that would mean I like the characters more than the actors/actresses themselves. (i.e., Quon in RahXephon, and Lum in Urusei Yatsura)

Aoi Tenshi
2004-07-26, 22:28
Female:
Megumi Hayashibara - her voice tallent is extremely good. Range from cute little girl, to sexy female. ( Slayers, Asagiri no miko, Cowboy Bebop, etc)
Mai Nakahara - just plain cute and soft (Maburaho, Onegai Twins)
Yumiko Kobayashi - Wacky voice (Puni Puni Poemi, Love Hina)
Ayako Kawasumi - Soothing voice (Ai Yori Aoshi, Tenshi no Sippo, This Ugly Beautiful world, Mahoromatic)

Male:
Akira Ishida - ( Slayers Try, Chrno Crusade, Kiddy Grade)
Shoutarou Morikubo - funny especially in Get Backers as Ginji

Samurai Champloo - Fuu

I like Orisaka Fumiko. Her voice has variety. From the snobbish Pacifica Kasull (Scrapped Princess) to the calm and reserved Ciel (Tsukihime), to the soft and gentle Chise (Saikano) she can pretty much tackle any types of characters.

Hotohori from Fushigiyuugi
Aya from Weiss

石田 彰(Ishida Akira)

And loads of Drama CDs (such as the most most sad "Silver Requiem")

岩男潤子(Iwao Junko)
Tomoe from Rurouni Kenshin (love her voice!)
Tomoyo from Card Captor Sakura

涼風真世(Ryoufu Mayo)
Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin

I don't know about you guys but whenver I hear someone overly used such as Horie Yui, I automatically think of Lova Hina which totally takes me out of whatever anime I was watching at the time.

I'm like that with Hayashibara Megumi, Kawasumi Ayako, and Seki Tomokazu. And I can't wait to see how many crazed fans will try to kill me for hating these popular seiyuu.

I have a couple faves, but above all of them would have to be Kikuchi Masami, best known as Tenchi from the Tenchi series and Keiichi from Aa! Megami-sama! I don't know, I just love his voice.^.^;;

Hayashibara Megumi - Too famous.

Ueda Kana - First as Kohaku in Tsukihime, then Reika in Green Green, and I just found out she's also voiced Fukuzawa Yumi in Maria-sama ga Miteru :eyespin:

Toyoguchi Megumi - Voiced two of my favorite characters: Satou Sei in Marimite and Machida Ayaka in Stellvia.

Wakamoto Norio - Johnny in the 2D fighter game Guilty Gear, Chiyo-chan's dad in Azumanga Daiou.

I also like Wakamoto Norio and Megumi Hayashibara!
Wakamoto's role of the movie "Metropolis" was cool but also sad.
And it made me surprised that Rei in "Evangelion" and Faye Valentine of "bebop" was purformed by same actress, Megumi Hayashibara...

My favorites are Koichi Yamadera(Ryoji Kaji in "Evangelion", Togusa in "Ghost in the shell/攻殻機動隊") and Akio Otsuka(Nemo in "nadia") . And recently, 3 main characters of Tokyo godfathers did a good voice performance, I thought.

Hayashibara Megumi - Too famous.

Chiwa Saitou has done charming innocence (Kokoro), emotional but with a heart of gold (Anita King, Natsumi, Komachi, Kirie), smart meganeko (Neneko) but this is her best role ever... Hazuki in Tsukuyomi.
This role gives her the full spectrum needed to potray a nekomimi gothic lolita vampire!
Wheeee!

Hmmm... I can think of three at the moment.

Junichi Suwabe - My favorite role of his is Greed in Fullmetal Alchemist; in fact, that role may just be the second greatest piece of voice acting I've ever witnessed. Junichi Suwabe is also Katana in Gad Guard, although his role is considerably easier in Gad Guard than it is in Fullmetal Alchemist, if you know what kind of a character Greed is.

Romi Paku - She is Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist and Katsushirou in Samurai 7. She also plays Temari in Naruto, although she doesn't shine particularly in that one. Although I haven't seen her in these roles, she is also Hitsugaya Toushiro in Bleach and Ren Tao in Shaman King. I love her because she is great at being angsty (think Ed and Katsushirou) .

Kouji Ishii grabs my number one favorite voice acting job with Lord Hamdo in Now and Then, Here and There. *Anyone* who has seen that series probably agrees with me. I have also enjoyed his performance as older Tokaki and Mitsukake in Fushigi Yuugi, and even more than those two, Oscar in FFU.

So...
1. Kouji Ishii
2. Junichi Suwabe
3. Romi Paku

But for my favourite, chalk another one up for Megumi Hayashibara. She's incredible -

I dunno. Her voice is very generic among anime, and doesn't bring anything new to it, but I really like it; perhaps it's my fondness for the character, or something. It's a pretty cute voice. O.o

Onsokumaru - 2 x 2 = Shinobuden - Wakamoto Norio
This guy has one of the funniest voices ever. Seriously; if you haven't seen this anime yet, get a few episodes and look out for the "Master", and the yellow ball-creature who accompanies Shinobu. He's Onsokumaru, and the voice is just ... XD.

Nakahara Mai - (May Wong -Kaleidostar, Miina -Onegai Twins)
She is just a charming person in general but in terms of voice acting nobody can make a character 'spaz out' quite like Nakahara-san.

Kawasumi Ayako - (Kaede - Shinobuden, Fuu - Champloo)
I've mistaken her for Horie Yui before. I can't pinpoint what I like about her exactly but she is one of my favs. I think maybe because she sounds... 'real'... ?

Nogami Yukana - (Tessa - FMP)

Yeah, I was thinking of putting her down aswell. And I know what you mean. In Shinobuden, she often gets the tone of her voice just perfect for the situation, which is something a lot of voice actors fumble on. I'd like to see her in a more serious anime though . . . I think she'd do pretty well in it. *looks up Champloo*

She plays a pretty amazing character as a cynical Kaede, who I am muchos fan of. <3

Look no further than Lafiel in Crest of the Stars for stellar performance by this girl. Now this is a pretty difficult character to take on, one minute a cold blooded warrior and the next a young girl having to deal with an eccentric dad :heh:. Kanako from Genshiken is another fun role, having her go berzerk trying to hide her hobby was a hoot.

Michiko Neya not getting enough love. Her career can be best described today as 'chronic second'. ie, massive number of co-starring roles >_<. Kind of sad though, she was just evil incarnate as Delphine in Last Exile.

Shindou Shinichi is Seki Tomokazu

I think he was talking about Kudou Shinichi from Detective Conan, who also is played by Yamaguchi Kappei.
I like his voice since it's quite a bit higher than most male seiyuu and can play the younger roles. The only role I don't like him in is Ussop in One Piece, where his character is annoying.

Kanako from Genshiken is another fun role, having her go berzerk trying to hide her hobby was a hoot.

Ayako Kawasumi actually technically has a second voice role in Genshiken, she's also the vice-chairman, Kasumi Kisaragi(the black-haired one we almost never see), in Kujibiki Unbalance(the "anime-in-an-anime" inside the world of Genshiken).

As you might guess, she is my favorite seiyuu as well. There once was a time, when I first started watching anime, that I was watching Banner of the Stars , Ai Yori Aoshi, and Mahoromatic almost at the same time. The first time I ever tried to find out about seiyuu, I was absolutely stunned to realize that I was listening to the same person playing all three of the (blue-haired) lead roles :twitch:

Ginpei Sato for Jin of Samurai Champloo. man, what can i say. first line from the show and i was done for. i'm not the type who fangirls or have i ever been affected by anything this much before but he changes that lol. just the right level of seriousness, deepness, calmness, soothness it just completely blows me away. nay, mesmerizes me on the spot. crisp and refreshing, yeah... oh yeah.
Akira Sasanuma for Dearka Elthman of Gundam SEED. i like how he made the character sound so suave.
Akira Ishida for Saburo of Keroro Gunso. lol, weird is it? none of the usual he's well known for. i just would like him to do more roles where he's carefree like Saburo.
Ryuuzo Ishino for Chang Wufei of Gundam Wing. lol, odd choice?
Noriaki Sugiyama best known for Sasuke of Naruto. if it weren't for Nontan's bashfulness i never would have forgiven Sasuke, lol. it was beyond unbelievable and totally adorable when the person behind the character turned out to be the complete opposite.
Kenji Nojima for Taira of Beck MCS. the calm voice made an already cool character even more cooler.
Takahiro Sakurai for Susumu of Peacemaker Kurogane. ARGH. heard him first as the very popular Cloud Strife but i thought i'd leave him alone after he has legions of fans already. but just as i finished PMK some weeks ago... he got to me. =_=
Mayumi Asano for Claus of Last EXILE. props for making Claus even more adorable and lovable than he already is.
Fumiko Orikasa for Meia Gisborn of Vandread. strict commanding girls are always a nice change from the usual screechy high-pitched ones.
Miho Saiki for Maho of Beck MCS. deep and confident who means no funny business yet all female.
Romi Paku for Katsushiro Okamoto of Samurai 7. i thought the insecurity was an interesting change from the loud and spunky characters she usually does and is well known for (ie. FMA's Edo).
Houko Kuwashima for Kirika of Noir. she made a fragile character believable. that's why your jaw'd drop when she be transforms into a deadly assassin. amazing also for doing two distinctive characters at once in Gundam SEED (Natarle and Flay).
Junko Takeuchi for Naruto of Naruto. i remember a while back gaping at the monitor when i heard her talk in Naruto's voice in person because i really thought Naruto was voiced by a guy.

Though it's cliched to metion her, Hayashibara Megumi was a favorite of mine for a long time because of her range. I alwas liked her "cute" roles, but seeing her play some surly adult characters really built my respect for her.

Watching Suzumiya Haruhi, I'm constantly entertained by Hirano Aya, Goto Yuko, and Chihara Minori. These are the only roles I know them from, so I don't know just how far their talent reaches, but I know I like all three of them (and not just because I'm enjoying the show).

But, from the same show, I was actually very impressed with Sugita Tomogazu, who plays Kyon. I very rarely take note of male seiyuu because they tend to sound the same, but even if his voice isn't particularly unique, he has an ability to deliver his lines in a way that is overly dramatic without sounding too unnatural.

Even more recently, after watching REC, I was impressed by Sakai Kanako. Though she's able to deliver the cute vocals, her strength and clarity in delivering the heavier, more adult-sounding vocals (such as translations of Audrey Hepburn lines) were phenomenal.

One of my all time fav' seiyuu's has to be Hitomi Nabatame. <3

Some of my fav' work by her:

Arcueid - Shingetsutan Tsukihime
Nobue - Ichigo Mashimaro
Margery Daw - Shakugan no Shana
Vivienne - Ultimate Girls
Izumi - Uta~Kata

Also, i can't leave out Daisuke Ono - he came alive in Air for me as Yukito Kunisaki. Thanks do that Yukito became my fav' character. ^^

Can't forget is other work as well:

Asuta - Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~
Itsuki - Suzumiya Haruhi

Hayashibara Megumi takes the top spot given her broad range of roles, including some game-only ones (Patricia Hackman BANZAI).

Horie Yui is definitely in my top list for her singing in Da Capo as Shirakawa Kotori(I may be a Nemu and Mako supporter, but Soyokaze no Harmony is too good)

Midorikawa Hikaru tops the list for males, especially his game roles(Masaki "Where am I now?" Andou) along with some recent anime roles (Master Therion)

Tanaka Rie (Lacus from GS;GSD, Simca from Air Gear)
Takahashi Mikako (Ayu from H&C, Rika from Hantsuki)
Ise Mariya (Ringo from Air Gear, also she's fairly new)
Hisakawa Aya (Haruhi from Ouran Host Club; Ami from Sailor Moon :heh:)

Sugita Tomokazu (Mayama from H&C, Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu)
Ueda Yuji (http://www.animenfo.com/animeseiyuu,2,amhpic,ueda_yuji.html for all his works.. there's alot)

For the longest time, Horie Yui was my favorite seiyuu. However, recently I've been impressed by the different roles Nakahara Mai has been able to do, with me being unable to pinpoint it was her for every one of them. Then singing Million Love in Kage Kara Mamoru IN CHARACTER pushed it over the top, and then hearing her sweet, psychotic, and serious renditions of Rena's "Kana? Kana?" in Higurashi sealed the deal for me.

For male VAs (to which I don't pay as much attention to as females, I got to admit), Sugita Tomokazu is probably the only one that sticks to my mind. I've been impressed by his Mayama in H&C, and unlike most of the KKK fan club members, actually liked his performance in Shuffle!.

For the longest time, Horie Yui was my favorite seiyuu. However, recently I've been impressed by the different roles Nakahara Mai has been able to do, with me being unable to pinpoint it was her for every one of them

Really? I've always found her voice to be easily recognisable but then again I'm not exactly sure if I've seen that many of her different roles.

As for my favourites

Female:
Nakahara Mai (Midori No Hibi)
Inoue Kikuko (Ah My Goddess)
Kawasumi Ayako (Samurai Champloo)
Takahashi Mikako (Honey and Clover)
Sakai Kanako (REC)
Yukino Satsuki (Full Metal Panic)
Saitou Chiwa (Kokoro Library)

Male:
Jouji Nakata (Keroro Gunsou)
Takehito Koyasu (Yakitate Japan)
Seki Tomokazu (Full Metal Panic)
Norio Wakamoto (Ninin ga Shinobuden)
Junichi Suwabe (Fate Stay Night)

Animes in brackets are where I first took notice of those VAs, and usually what I refer to them as if I don't remember their names(had to look up quite a few) e.g. "It's the same VA guy that does Kuroyanagi from Yakitate Japan" etc...

Maybe a native Japanese speaker might be able to pick up, but I can't. Or maybe that's just because other seiyuus are notoriously easy to recognize (Noto Mamiko, Goto Yuko, and Horie Yui comes to mind). I just took note of that last season alone, Nakahara did Maika from Magikano, Yuuna from Kage Kara Mamoru, Chitose from Amanaideyo Katsu, and Misaki from Tactical Roar (with of course, a minor role in M-Otome). It wasn't until later when I looked her up that surprised me that she did all of those roles, with me having no clue at all the same seiyuu did them. ^^;

Well the same goes for all of the seiyuus I posted. To me they all have very distinct voices that I can usually pick up on. I think only really Seki Tomokazu as Mepple had me fooled initially. Going back to it you can sort of pick it up but I definitely wouldn't have known from the start.

From Saber to Matsuri in mashimaro, from Mahoro to Fuu. She can always portray the character perfectly everytime, I was so surprise that Saber voice was hers, totally unexpected.

Tamura Yukari - absolutely #1 all-time fav for eternity
Hirano Aya - brilliant woman, marvelous voice. I hear she's the talk of all seiyuu lately.
Noto Mamiko - has possibly the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. It can sound soothing and calm, or deadly and serious. Either way, it makes no difference. Her voice is just love.
Sugita Tomokazu - I know him mainly for the serious yet sarcastic character in a world full of odd and extraordinary girls, and he does a damn good job at it.
Kikuchi Mika - one of the most unique voices I've heard in a while. Her role as Arika was excellent. She's such a sweet and cute person. Not to mention, she was DekaPink! :O
Shimizu Ai - Sooo adorable. Great range in voices. Puts a smile on my face every time.
Nakahara Mai - lovely voice. She was awesome as Rena and also as Tokiha Mai. I thought those characters were her best performances yet.
Seki Tomokazu - simply hilarious. Currently watching Nodame Cantabile and he's making me laugh each time he interacts with Nodame and her nonsense. He's got a distinct voice as well.
Kugimiya Rie - I've heard most of her voice through little tsundere girls but that's not the only reason why I like her so much. The way she brings her lines is astonishing. I think her role as Al Elric is one of the best ones for her especially since you normally don't hear Rie playing characters like Al.
Yukana - no matter what series, it's always recognizable to hear her voice. It sounds lovely and warm in most parts but it can also sound real snotty and spoiled, but that's what I like about her voice. I was kinda amazed at the switch between her Kazahana Mashiro voice to her Mashiro Blan de Windbloom voice. At the moment, she's doing a terrific job as C.C.

Thanks for mentioning Paku Romi (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=7021). I'm fascinated by her lately. She is so great as rocker Nana in NANA -- real acting. And I just finished watching Turn A Gundam, from 1999, where she made the male lead, Loran Cehack, such an attractive person.

This is a bit of a cross-post, but here is a photo of her with Hirano Aya recently, when they went out for lunch after a recording session for NANA (in which Aaya is also wonderful, as Layla). Romi's 35 and Aaya is 19:

She was born in Japan to Korean parents (whose families had been in Japan for two and three generations), speaks fluent Korean, graduated from a Japanese university and studied for a time at a university in Korea. Like seiyuus Takahashi Rieko and Hosokoshi Michiko (both of whom were in Simoun) she is a member of the theatre group En (http://www.en21.co.jp/index.html). She and Takahashi-san starred together in Turn A Gundam.

Tanaka Rie - Is the perfect example of what a goddess should sound like (my favorite roles of hers are: Tomoe (Mai Otome), Suigintou (Rozen Maiden), Lacus Clyne (Gundam SEED/Destiny) and the list goes on. :p She'll always be my number one. <3<3<3

Noto Mamiko - Her voice is absolutely lovely. Definitely the most beautiful voice I've ever heard in all the years I've lived.

Tamura Yukari - How can I resist her voice? I mean seriously, "ka na, ka na?" :p

Junko Minagawa - I love her "feminine woman" type roles such as Cornelia ( Code Geass) and Ayaka (Negima!?). She possesses a voice I can fall in love with.

Nakahara Mai - Gets much love from me for roles such as Tokiha Mai and Rena (Mai HiME and Mai Otome). I always love to her more from her.

Hirano Aya - Need I say more? She's all the rage.

Kugimiya Rie - Love her as Shana and I can't wait to hear her as Nagi in Hayate the Combat Butler.

Matsutani Kaya - She hasn't done many roles, but I love her as Matsumoto Rangiku in BLEACH.

Touma Yumi - Has one of the most sultry voices I've ever heard as Urd in Ah! My Goddess.

Romi Paku - Need I even explain why? She has done so many voices and has a range that would make most other seiyuu jealous. She's definitely among the best of the best.

Sugita Tomokazu - His performances as Kyon, Rin, Yuuichi are among the most amazing I've heard among male seiyuu.

Seki Tomokazu - This guy is awesome. Great performances as Shinichi (Nodame Cantabile), Kenichi (History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi), and Gilgamesh (Fate/Stay Night)

Hmm...I hope I'm not forgetting anyone. :heh:

I'm embaressed to say that most japanese seiyuu do not make enough of an impression on me to develope a "favorite". :(

Probably the most memorable (to me) voice acting, was by Yui Itsuki's work as Moe Mizukoshi in D.C. ~Da Capo~. The dreamy voice was just so unique, memorable, and was an integral part of the character's charm. :)

Toshihiko Seki- He was voice actor for few my of favorite character, Duo Maxwell, and Bleed Kaga. He also did excellent job with Rau, and Masato in Zeorymer.
Nobuyuki Hiyama- This men is awesome, he did voice for my favorite character Gai Shishio. He did a nice job on 556, Azrael, and Shiro Amada. His role as hotblooded character is just awesome.

Tomokazu Seki- did Sagara Sousuke from FMP!, my favorite anime
Horie Yui- Naru Narusegawa from Love Hina
Yukino Satsuni- very versatile, done a range of characters from Yoruichi of Bleach to my favorite female anime character, Chidori Kaname from FMP!
Hirano Aya- been said many times on the thread, but her job as Haruhi deserves it IMO

Norio Wakamoto - Probably has the most unique and interesting voice of them all. He really makes me laugh every time I hear him.

Kazuya Nakai - All his characters are badass samurai of some sort (Zoro - One Piece, Mugen - Samurai Champloo, Hijikata - Gintama, Yajirou - Grenadier and so on...). He does a great job making them both badass and funny at the same time.

Hoshi Souichiro - Really versatile. He can sound both quiet and timid (Kira Yamato, Kazuki from Getbackers) and really gutsy and powerful (Kazuma from Scryed, Nagi Souichiro from Tenjou Tenge). It's like he's two different people, though I like the latter one better.

Shuuichi Ikeda - Voices either powerful charismatic villains or again powerful father/protector figures (Dullindal from GSD, Shin Natsume from Tenjou Tenge, Hiko Seijiro from Kenshin). Either way his voice creates an air of superiority and confidence in his characters.

Toshihiko Seki - Great for voicing villain characters (Le Kruze from SEED, Reito from Mai HIME etc.). His voice carries with him an arrogance and confidence typical of his characters.

Yukino Satsuki - Can sound both cute and funny, also incredibly versatile. Usually voices violent girls who can be kind and caring at the same time (Chidori - FMP, Kagome - Inuuyasha).

Paku Romi/Megumi Ogata - Both of them can voice both male and female characters incredibly and that by itself is a great feat, but their voices are also incredibly deep and powerful.

Rie Tanaka - Voices girls who are cute and lovable, but at the same time possess great confidence and strength and her voice does that job rather well(Lacus Clyne - SEED, Simca - Air Gear)

There are probably many more that I'm forgetting but for now I'll stick with those.

Rie Tanaka - man she tends to voice lovable and cute girls like Lacus Clyne (Gundam Seed), and very confident girls like Mitsuru (Persona 3). Rie Tanaka has always been my favorite.

Yuuki Tai - his voice is hot and calm at times like that from Cobray Gordon (SRW).

Mamiko Noto - soft, sweet, soothing voice, goes great with cute and mysterious characters like Oichi (Sengoku Basara), Ai Enma (Jigoku Shojo) and Shimako Todou (Marimite).

Mamoru Miyano - one word... Kiba (Wolf's Rain)!!!

Kana Ueda - I love her as Yumi (Marimite) and Rin (FSN).

Takehito Koyasu - OMG! It's "Aya" Fujimiya (Weiss Kreuz) and Mu La Flaga (Gundam Seed)!

Romi Paku - whether its male like Kenshin Uesugi (Sengoku Basara) or female like Temari (Naruto), she can do full range.

Sho Hayami - the guy with a perfect voice for insane guys like Mitsuhide (Sengoku Basara) and Muraki (Yami no Matsue). I usually impersonate his voice because he's so cool!

Aya Hirano - although I don't like Haruhi, I must admit she was great (it's like I hate her character but I love her voice). One character I do love from her is Misa (Death Note)!

Ryotaro Okiayu - OMG! It's Zero (Megaman X) and Treize (Gundam Wing)!

Megumi Ogata - I love her males like Quattre (Gundam Wing) and Kurama (YuYu Hakusho). And there's this one character she voiced that I still have a crush on for nine years, Karen (B't X)!

Hikaru Midorikawa - ah yes, Mr. Super Robot Taisen himself. Like Hirano, I hate Kikuchi (GTO) but I love his voice there. It's when we talk about Gundam and SRW that we're talking delicious; yay Heero (Gundam Wing) and Masaki (SRW/Cybuster)!

I got more, but they'll do for now.

Anyone who is a fan of Tanaka Rie, and who hasn't watched Hataraki Man, do yourselves a favor. Rie's work in Hataraki Man just slightly nudged out Kuwashima Houko's performance in Saiunkoku Monogatari as my pick for best female seiyuu performance of the past year.

Takehito Koyasu:Experience and a deep voice serve Koyasu well in a variety of roles. Plus he has a great sense of humour as well, is classy and reserved in public while always showing humility, and all of these positive traits have led to him starring in more roles than any other person in the history of anime.

Kappei Yamaguchi: One of the most recognizable and unique voices in anime, with a great sense of humour like Koyasu, likes to really get into his characters and make them his own, often appearing to improve on the spot as well. Yamaguchi is so manic in some of his roles I would go so far as to compare him to Jim Carey or Robin Williams. If he's in your anime, you can be sure he'll add to the fun.

Romi Paku: Always seems to put her utmost into her roles, plus her Loran Cehack will always hold a special place to me. Like everybody I've mentioned before, she has an excellent sense of humour, comes across as very intelligent in interviews, can pass as a male character, and go from 0 to 100 in terms of intensity in less than a second.

Rie Kugimiya: The newest addition to my list of favourites, but certainly not the least. I've been following Rie Kugimiya quiet closely recently, and she does not yet cease to impress me. Most people know her as "that girl that plays tsundere loli", but she actually has such a range that she can pass as a deep voiced male or female, the highest pitched and chirpy little girl, she can sing along to heavy metal, or sugary idol pop, she can somehow make a character moe and gar at the same time, and she just keeps on damn well getting tons of roles, to the point where I swear she's showing off at the moment by being in no less than 6-10 shows at any given (I admit I lost count, most have ended now though) and even taking two roles in Potemayo. The girl is nuts, and I love her for it. Keep on trucking Kugiminator.

Nobuyuki Hiyama: YUUSHA OH! GAO GAI GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR! NEED A LINE SAID REALLY HOT BLOODED AND LOUD, CALL NOBUYUKI HIYAMA! Otherwise if you just want somebody who conveys a sense of being on top of things, call him as well. Gar fans know him, he is their god, who could ever replace the one and only Gai Shishioh.

Sho Hayami, Satsuki Yukino, Yuko Minaguchi, Kotono Mitsuishi, Nobuo Tobita, Kaneto Shiozawa (deceased), Tohru Furuya, Shinichiro Miki, Yukari Tamura, Mamiko Noto, Hidekatsu Shibata, Ai Orikasa, Norio Wakamoto, Shigeru Chiba, Hirotaka Suzuoki (deceased), Akira Kamiya, Daisuke Gouri, Shuuichi Ikeda, Seki Tomokazu, and Kazuki Yao round out my list of favourites as well.

Incidentally, I find it interesting that all of my favourites are seperated by such a thin barrier from one to next. Kappei Yamaguchi Led With Rie Kugimiya In Rizelmine, Who Led With Romi Paku In Full Metal Alchemist Who In Turn Starred Opposite Takehito Koyasu In Turn A Gundam, Who Played The Lead In Betterman As The Betterman, Which Is Considered The Second Most Powerful Entity In The GaoGaiGar Extended Universe With GaoGaiGar Being The First, Which Was Piloted By The Main Character Gai Shishioh Who Was Played By.....Nobuyuki Hiyama.

Small world.

Well, as with pretty much everyone else, my list of favorites is incredibly long, so were I to list it, I know I'd forget some.

Although I do want to mention Kotono Mitsuishi and Romi Paku. Although they are both quite versatile in vocal range, they wouldn't reach the top 5 of most versatile female seiyuu in that respect. However, they are definitely the most versatile in regards to playing a character. Neither have ever disappointed me in the characters they played and have always managed to make those characters come alive and give me chills/move me.

Although Kotono Mitsuishi did great in Evangelion, Noir and Sailor Moon as well, it's her performance in Excel Saga that's just unforgettable to me. And her character episode in Paranoia Agent I'll never be able to forget. Of course there are many other performances.

Romi Paku has been mentioned several times recently, so I don't really have anything to add. She's also a woman I'd love to meet in real life, she just appears as a joy to hang out with.

There's many more I adore, as mentioned, but not going to list them. However, I do want to say that for newcomers of sorts, I'm really looking out for Marina Inoue and Tetsuya Kakihara, as they both have, so far, given strong performances in what I've seen. In Marina's case I'm actually more pointing out to her performance in Terra e, instead of Gurren Lagann. I'm very curious what they'll bring in the future.

Orikasa Fumiko, my favorite comedy seiyuu, mainly for her roles as Matsuoka Miu in Ichigo Mashimaro and Katagiri Himeko in Pani Poni Dash!, but she also is really, really good on the dramatic side with outstanding lead performances in shows such as Scrapped Princess, Code Geass and Tsukihime. Plus she's got a lead role in Bleach as a low-pitched character (Rukia), but I haven't watched Bleach (and I'm not planning to) so I don't know enough of her role to judge it. Her comedy voice gets me cracking like no other--it can actually make me laugh without telling a single joke.

Tanaka Atsuko, the eternal Major Kusanagi in the Ghost in the Shell franchise. Her somewhat manly and authoritative voice, but with a deep touch of feminine sensuality in it, is simply amazing. She has starred in several other shows, but I believe she's best known as Kusanagi than as anything else she's done.

From Hayashibara Megumi I keep some good memories from Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop, plus her role in Paprika is nothing short of completely overwhelming. I'd like to see her around more, though, since she's stepped out of the voice acting business a bit.

And, finally, my favorite seiyuu is Yukana. She basically bought me with her role as Mashiro and Fumi-san in Mai HiME, plus the 180-degrees-turnaround Mashiro in Mai Otome. She's got a more serious, deeper version of herself as Dominura, in Simoun. And there's that tsundere-ish, brilliant role as CC in Code Geass. She hasn't played too many roles just yet, but I believe she's really, really skilled as a seiyuu.

Tomokazu Seki. His voice is awesome--especially when he gets really passionate. For example, when Sagara Sousuke gets really angry, his voice becomes really distinct and full of emotion, like how Yzak talks a lot.

I also really like Horie Yui, Paku Romi, Tomokazu Sugita (his sarcastic Kyon/Gintoki are very cool), and Rie Kugumiya.

Minoru Shiraishi is just full of lulz and 100% awesome.

I'd say I like seiyuu with diverse role better.

Kuwashima Houko, for her diverse roles from klutzy but capable kanchou Yurika in Nadesico to quiet amd misterious Yuumura Kirika in Noir, and many other roles

Nakahara Mai, I tought she would only play stereotypical cheerful girl, but I changed my opinion when she played Rena-chan. then in Sola her role as the seemingly cold Aono and as cool Teana in Nanoha StrikerS. When I watched her Nanoha StrikerS with interview with Saitou Chiwa and Tamura Yukari I noticed that her normal voice is the same as her anime voice, the other two's voices differ significantly from their anime voice. Oh yeah did anybody notice that many Nakahara-san's character has orange/brown hair (Tokiha Mai, Rena-chan, Teana, Miina, Miu)

Plus her CD collection is pretty good too. She pretty much was Lynn Minmei in RL. it was really a convincing performance as a girl plucked from obscurity that became this larger than life idol. And I give her points for reprising her role in the dub and original.

I believe she's the only one with a bilingual MySpace account. :) Furthermore, nearly a decade ago she was a guest star in a television whodunit series set in Hawaii.

For my two cents, here's the rundown:

Mamiko Noto is the seiyuu equivalent of Tiger Balm, bar none: as everyone knows, her voice is smooth, soothing, and ethereal, even as her Nodoka Miyazaki tries to recite sentences in English in Negima episode 11.

Every time Miki Itou takes the role of my favorite heroine, she truly sounds like a blue-blooded heiress, or as a fellow fan said to me, possessing "a southern rich belle kind of power" whenever she speaks.

Itou Miki: Now, that is one you don't hear everyday. Old timers will remember her in DBZ and ZZ Gundam. Definitely a lady from the old school.
