Given thelittle information than I got I could suggest you 2 authors; Lawrence Block and Iain M Banks ( or just Iain Banks for his non-sciencefiction book). They are 2 authors than I enjoy most of the time and they wrote enought than you should find something to your taste. I could suggest some titre but your request was rather vague.
