Don't worry we'll chop him off too if he steps out of line. He should know by now that we're way more dangerous.
lol! I bet Kawamori's getting some threats from fans here and there. Now I'm curious how we're all going to react if he suddenly concluded the LT in the movie and poor Ranka ended up alone. I'll probably write a long rant and wonder why it happened.
Well, honestly, and I'm humbly saying this based on my own observation. I didn't really see any reciprocation from Alto's part when Sheryl kissed him.
When Sheryl pulled back, Alto's absent-minded look seemed more to me like..."Oh no, I didn't respond sorry that was just--" then Sheryl just told him not to say anything anymore. She proved her point. I didn't mean to sound biased when I say that (you know the part that I need to say that Alto is in love with both girls lol) but I really didn't see any spark coming from Alto there. Despite Alto's insistence that he'll go back to Sheryl, he wasn't wholeheartedly committing to her not when he was masking his grief over the fact that he had to kill Ranka. Sheryl saw that and didn't want an Alto like that. There was only one time where I saw Alto look romantically attracted to a girl and that was towards Ranka in episodes 12 & 13. He was blushing and smiling, peeking at Ranka and smiling, eyes lighting up from hearing her say he meant a lot to her
Those are the kinds of behavior I wanted Alto to show towards Sheryl in episodes 22-24. Any scene that showed Alto going dokun dokun because Sheryl told him what he meant to her not because he just found out she was dying and she looked really miserable. ^^ There was no doubt that Alto was genuinely concerned about Sheryl, but the point of it all was, it didn't equate to me that Alto fell in love with her.
To be honest, the closest romantic confession I heard Alto say to Sheryl was when he said that she and Ranka are his wings. =/ Really, that was it. Maybe it's different for you guys lol I'm still trying to rationalize how that sentence doesn't necessarily mean that he's in love with both of them and merely just means that the two girls helped him be a better person. It just sounded so random
He totally sounded like a player if he did mean he was in love with them.
Speaking of Alto's eyes lighting up xD
Hmm, IIRC, Kawamori used 気に入る(?)/be fond of/like in the "alto loves both girls" statement. <-Link please, I don't want to make any mistakes....
Well, that was a very weak word in terms of romance. *still in ignorant bliss because an unspoken Aishiteru popped up in regard to my Geass OTP*
No surprise here, he likes them both.
I didn't understand why you were talking bout platonic love tho...
I dunno bout you, but I wasn't happy with how Alto treated Ranka near the end. I mean, if your bf let himself be kissed by some girl, would it be ok if he didn't kiss back?? I mean shouldn't he pull away? I dunno, I'm forgiving but I'm not *that* forgiving.
Also, I was really happy with how Alto was really into Ranka in the Galia part, but that's how he should have been to her at the end of the story!! The worst was when Ranka walked in on him on the rooftop. After the date he tried to deny being with Sheryl, but on the roof he acts like everything is normal even when Ranka starts crying? And after she left, I expected to see some moping from Alto... I get it if he's trying to be cool in front of his friends
but he should show some anguish when he's alone. They should just take his pained reaction from when he's confronting Sheryl about her illness and give that response for Ranka's departure when they write the movie
Anywho, if Alto really really loves Ranka, then Ranka should knock some sense into him first for his stupidity.
Kawamori clearly doesn't know anything about annoying two girls at the same time.
You're so fired up xD No but I do agree with you to some extent but the way I see Alto's emotions is that when Ranka left, he felt betrayed and was more angry than hurt. Still his feelings were all screwed up after Ranka confesses her love for him and leaves him and his necessity to stay to protect Frontier and a dying Sheryl. It was too much and he felt comforted with Sheryl there because she was really all that he had left, I mean he had Luca I guess but he was closer to Ranka and Sheryl. I don't excuse his actions but you must also take all of that into consideration, I always try to put myself in their shoes and try to understand their motives.
Also on the rooftop scene, it's not really that Alto was acting normal but remember that all hell broke loose when the Vajra came out from their eggs and started destroying Frontier from the inside, so he had to find some way to protect Frontier and the only way was with the help of Ranka and her song. I think that Alto did show anguish, when Alto had his conversation with Klan and said that he would kill Ranka if it came down to it, he turned his head a little and showed us his face expression where he looked torn.
You have to admit though, that when Alto is with Ranka
, he actually treats her very well. This is one of the major reasons I am shipping Alto x Ranka lol, because their moments are very peaceful and the atmosphere is always serene.
Episode 25 was just a reset to the triangle and it gave us this damn "no resolution" ending. Kawamori will be hearing from me if he ends the movie the same way because I need my closure.
erfine is probably an old member as I am, but I'm glad we managed to un-lurk him
I love hearing from other members. I was talking about platonic love because I'm really not convinced Alto is 'in love' with the both of them like Kawamori claims he is. It came off to me as more like an attempt not to alienate either fans. ^^ Especially when
Alto and Ranka extended their hands to Sheryl and told her that she had a part in their 'flight'. It's actually not just Alto we're talking about here. Alto's statement about his two wings had just as much focus as when Ranka herself said Sheryl made her fly. Not only that, Sheryl became little Queen as well. They really went to such an extent to equalize the two girls. I guess in a business point of view, that's the best way to rake in more money.
It's just from the way they made it, it looked so forced to me.
Instead of saying Alto is now magically in love with both of them, I think I would've believed it more if Kawamori just straight out said that Alto himself isn't aware of who he really loves. (Did he say something like that recently?) IMO, that's more like Alto. They're both important, yes, but is he really in love with the BOTH of them? Is he really going to marry the both of them? Doesn't it sound so outrageous?
But well, if Kawamori says polygamy, all I can do is roll my eyes and play along with it.
And yes please anyone, I'd also love to see the link where Kawamori stated Alto is in love with both of them. It was so long ago I forgot if he really did say it or not. lol -__- I remember the "polygamy is accepted by society" statement though...
Here's to liven this place up. More from erfine
And feel free to debate if there's something I said that's off.
"I mean, if your bf let himself be kissed by some girl, would it be ok if he didn't kiss back?? I mean shouldn't he pull away?"
As I see it, Alto in this scene IS committing himself to Sheryl. Why? Because he told her he would stay with her till the end. He made a pledge that he would stand by Frontier last episode. He was doing the responsible thing because given with what he knew Ranka was trying to destroy them. I don't blame Alto for that. But Sheryl knew Alto was committing himself to her while masking his pain over Ranka. That was why her kiss didn't spark anything within Alto. If Sheryl felt that Alto was truly in love with her and truly found the
he belonged, I don't think she would get heartbroken in 23 and felt the need to let Alto go to Ranka. Notice she said, "Go Rescue Ranka." Not "Go Rescue Frontier."
She wanted Alto to go sort his feelings for Ranka first and if he still feels like committing to her even with Ranka by his side, she would hear him. Hence she ended their conversation saying Alto doesn't know what he's missing.
There were so many factors hinting the one-sidedness of Alto and Sheryl's lovers game that I'm sure lot of us here sees. One of the strongest for me was when Sheryl said "kindness is a sin." etc etc...
"Also, I was really happy with how Alto was really into Ranka in the Galia part, but that's how he should have been to her at the end of the story!!"
lol! I honestly think Alto's feelings for Ranka never changed even if there was no resolution. I mean, he gets 'jealous' of Brera in 16. Scales a building to get to Ranka when there's no way to communicate. The two were eagerly holding each other's hands in 20. (I thought that was really adorable) They were making paper airplanes in 21 and he looked so blissful while he was with Ranka. He was never like that post ep. 21. (double check if I'm wrong
) Did Alto's scream of anguish in 21 and 22 and even 24 mean nothing? XD Alto was there for Ranka each time they're together and he goes out of his way for her no matter how little the matter is. Even in ep. 25, he had that internal monologue of Ranka calling out to him and him following his feelings and all. He had an inner soul searching the moment he heard Ranka call to him. (I say he really enjoys being Ranka's princess in shining armor) Plus, they went back to the "Rankaaa!" "Alto-kun!" routine of theirs again when they got reunited. A proper RankaxAlto conversation in episode 25 would've been an icing on the top but alas.
I really don't think Alto changed even after the great misunderstanding. XD I gotta give it to DeX-kun though, I think he said a lot of what I wanted to say too. Oh wow, I wrote a novel. :| I better shut up now.
To be honest, the closest romantic confession I heard Alto say to Sheryl was when he said that she and Ranka are his wings. =/ Really, that was it.
.. this is not romantic at all. How about when alto said ďone cannot fly aloneÖ I will definitely come backĒÖ. is that consider as romantic confession????
I dunno bout you, but I wasn't happy with how Alto treated Ranka near the end. I mean, if your bf let himself be kissed by some girl, would it be ok if he didn't kiss back?? I mean shouldn't he pull away?
We will go back to the time when alto declared he will kill ranka. After he said those words I presume that he tried to forget everything about her and focus on the war between human and vajra. But during the assembly before he is heading to the war we saw altoís dark expression he surely was in pain knowing that they will going to kill the queen. Then he went to Sherylís room at that moment I think alto already accepted to be with her and that he said I will come back (not with ranka though). Anyway, we saw them kissed alto responded to it Iím pretty sure it feels wrong if he didnít. That scene solidifies the love triangle and chance for Sheryl to be with alto. Most of Sheryl fans probably think that alto rescued ranka because Sheryl asked him to but it was altoís instinct to go where ranka is it always happened in many times, in many ways nothing changes. Even seeing Sheryl fainted didnít stop him from rescuing ranka instead he asked for her strength to save ranka and thatís for me showed how special ranka is.
Anywho, if Alto really really loves Ranka, then Ranka should knock some sense into him first for his stupidity.
I donít think alto was stupid it was ranka who left him and Sheryl needed him alto showed compassion and Sheryl take advantage to it.
You have to admit though, that when Alto is with Ranka alone, he actually treats her very well. This is one of the major reasons I am shipping Alto x Ranka lol, because their moments are very peaceful and the atmosphere is always serene
Yeah, surely right he was trying to look his best for ranka, he was overprotected when it comes to ranka, risks his life for ranka, He think most of the memories of ranka and ranka alone.
I feel like teens giggling while reading your post I may be sound silly but canít help it..
this group is surely a fun.
I suppose you can call Alto's statements "Sheryl I'll definitely be back." "I realized one cannot fly alone." "I don't have anything to counter that." as something closest to a "romantic confession" because Alto IS trying to commit to her but, frankly, with the way he looked in that scene, sounded, and with what he confessed last episode it didn't come off to me as genuine.^^ Cuz I think a real romantic confession wouldn't look forced, filled with underlying heavy feelings, and most of all, it should have a positive effect on the person you're confessing to.
You can clearly feel Alto's stiffness in 24, the "I gotta do this. I gotta be tough. I've decided on it" aura coming from him. Sheryl wouldn't end their "relationship" if she didn't feel that there's something off with that confession. I hope I'm making sense.
Atleast when he said she and Ranka are his wings, that sounded more authentic to me, hence, why I consider it more as the closest romantic confession from Alto.
And you're right, it's not a romantic confession, but that's the only instance I can find where Alto said something special to Sheryl bearing a true smile on his face. ^^
I guess it would be a different story
if somewhere in those 22-24 episodes, we got a scene where Sheryl had said something "meaningful" (I'm not referring to her pitiful words abt. dying and pulling Alto's heartstrings lol) that sparked something within Alto. You know? Any encouragement coming from the dying Sheryl telling Alto that she believes in him even if everyone around him left, and the gesture cleared all of the heavy feelings inside Alto. That's what I'm looking for and I would've sadly admitted that Sheryl might have filled in something Ranka wasn't able to. But alas, instead of Sheryl mending Alto, it was ALTO mending Sheryl all the while struggling to get over Ranka's betrayal.
I empathized with Alto in 24 when he confronted Ranka. He was all like "why are you doing this, Ranka!?"
He was clearly in the dark, didn't know the truth, and was
because of it. All of the anguish he was masking, it showed right there in that scene. And just think about it, the girl whom you wanted to "protect forever" betrayed you and you didn't know what's going on. Alto could only do what he thought was right. You can't really blame him. The poor guy...
RankaxAlto centric posts make me giggle too. That's why I love hearing people's opinions on why they like the pair. You're not alone ^.^
@ani_d and gentlewater
Call it a woman's intuition, right ani? lol
This is something I know for a fact that I don't understand xD
Congrats to Sheryl for finally beating C.C. in the March Newtype polls
Ranka's in rank 3 and Klan's somewhere in the top 10! It's about time Macross F takes the center stage. I hope the streak continues!
Sounds great! I'm so glad that Ranka is getting some recognition too and it'll help when the movie comes out XD I think that C.C was a great character but I felt like she lacked something in the series. I don't know if it was more exposure or maybe just development.
C.C. being mentioned in the Sheryl thread means double nausea for me.
I actually like Sheryl though.
(Sorry I am in a very bad mood after the recent idiocy in CG romance thread or CG fandom in general.)
*gasp* You don't like C.C!? Well to each his/her own xD But I do agree with you on the whole romance stuff going around, I don't feel there was enough romance in CG to actually discuss much about. Kind of pointless in my opinion
Well in here we're not inclined to actually stay on topic to the respective thread (although I didn't create this thread xD)
Just got some time.
I could forgive Alto for being angry at being betrayed but I don't understand why he didn't respond to her feelings. When you see someone you care about crying you want to comfort them not stand back and ask them to come help you with something. I mean it's not surprising that she told him then that he was just using her. Alto does treat Ranka very nicely when they are together but how he treats her around others is important as well. In the start of the story he was denying his feelings, but later on that should not be an issue.
Agreed that the last episode looked forced, probably because of the switch in writers.
I think it's more of a tie than Alto dating both since the story ends on an undecided note. Whatever Alto's motives were for staying on Frontier he still chose that over going with Ranka. It's not like everything was fine between them when she left. Asking Alto to come was an ultimatum to test their relationship. Even if he wanted to be with Ranka, those feelings alone aren't enough. If he really cared about his relationship he'd go after her like Ozma did.
I don't think it matters if the kiss sparked anything. If he was really into Ranka he'd pull away plain and simple. If he does like Ranka, then it shows that his commitment is shallow. I wouldn't excuse his actions.
It was nice that he climbed the building to get to her room and talk but he's always nice to her when they're alone like that. I'm not sure about the holding hands bit in 20 because he seemed annoyed with her that ep in general. Ep 21 may show Alto in a blissful state but he spends all the time talking about himself without trying to understand the pain Ranka is feeling which is why she left.
I think thats my problem with the way in which he treats her. He is sweet at times but he never really gets her or pays attention to what she's really saying so he appears very superficial. I get that you're emphasizing what he says, but I think the action is more important. When he's given the choice to go after her he doesn't and no amount of flashbacks can make up for that.
Where is that scene from 24 where he confronts Ranka? I couldn't find it. Was it near the start?
It's good that Alto wants to rescue Ranka but I don't know if he really understands the feelings that she had when she left. More than just wishing that you were with the person you have to take the effort to try to understand how they feel.
P.S Someone asked for Ranka comics so I put up the ones that I had. I'll put up more if I find them.
Me thinks it's just unrealistic if Alto left Frontier too (to join his perceived enemy all of a sudden) to prove that he loved Ranka. He was extremely misinformed.
The girl he likes became a terrorist for reasons he didn't know and he had all these people, sheryl included, needing his presence and support. How can you turn your back on that? Don't be too hard on the guy XD
Alto also didn't pull away from Sheryl's kiss in episode 10. He only had the same dumb look each time. I think the news of his kissing scene with Ranka squeezed the most expression out of him compared to all his reactions to Sheryl's kisses combined hahah Does that make you feel more forgiving?
"More than just wishing that you were with the person you have to take the effort to try to understand how they feel."
He asked Ranka why she was trying to destroy them in episode 24. Alto was also nothing but a wounded victim of Leon's lies.
Moreover the "misunderstanding" on both sides was just Ohnogi's ploy to make Frontier epic. So don't look at Altokun-kun, it's all Ohnogi's fault XD (Daijobu Alto-kun, I'll protect you from the accusations. XD)
If he really cared about his relationship he'd go after her like Ozma did. I don't think it matters if the kiss sparked anything. If he was really into Ranka he'd pull away plain and simple.
You are right here, but he did stay behind not because of his love to Sheryl but because he knew she was dying. Between Ranka who had Brera with herself and Sheryl who was alone with no one to protects her, when they were in war, his choice was made by default. He even said in the 23 that thanks to Ranka he found more reasons to protect Fontier . He cannot possibly desert his duties and in doing so denying all the reasons which for Ranka was so important to him.
But this is right to say that he is too much talking to himself and undecisive, that's why he wasn't so good as a character, even thought he could have been remember as a great character in Macross.
@Mei lol who is the terrorist ? Sheryl's speech on the 23 and 24 is a witness which shows how much Alto didn't want Ranka to leave. Well all his RANKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA in the 21 sure help a lot too...
You can protect Alto-kun all you want
but his reaction on the 22 wasn't that nice, when he was with Luca who accused Ranka of being a traitor, he could have said something. But no he didn't and that's where I understand why Alto isn't that popular even among some people here.
"....I'm a adult" <That's why Ozma didn't take Alto with him,...
XD Oh noez more we got more enemies Alto-kun... But in 22, Alto said he'll just have to bring Ranka back and that'll fix things. He crushed his juice silently. You can sense big frustration boiling deep inside and he hides it. He is one frustrated guy torn between his duties and his own emotions.
Then Ozma waltz in and said 'hur hur I'm going to betray Frontier because I'm a man who follows his heart'. With Alto still in the WTF-mode about the real situation it made him scream his head off. Isn't that anguish? Didn't you feel the emotional torture he went through because Ranka left?
Michael became space dust and he was able to smile "blissfully". Ranka left, didn't even die, and he looked like a lost puppy who's been getting drifted away from shore to shore. Mah, that's what he gets once the reason he fights for leaves him. He loses his way so he needed a replacement because "people shouldn't fly alone". Who's he kidding, ne?
As things stand, Altoxsky = Kawamorixyellowbelly is teh canon to me. I just don't think Alto had an official idea of who he's in love with. He feels it but he hasn't recognized it. But I ain't going to argue that he had more affection shown for Ranka from start to finish because I did see it too.
(I think Alto-kun is still safe with me.
Sorry for the late reply. Iím still hesitating whether to agree or disagree with you I would really love to agree with you but the way I see it alto said those words with determination it wasnít look force that Sheryl almost fall for it But what change her mind was the scene she remembers in episode 23 and thatís why she wanted to end their loverís game. I think it has nothing to do with the confession. You were right about a genuine confession should have positive effect on the person youíre confessing to but with Sheryl it was more of negative I understand though coz at that point she lost her prideful self whatís left there is her only remaining strength which she be using for the war. What makes it more beautiful to watch was when she tried to shut him up by kissing and that expressed everything she feels for him.
. Ep 21 may show Alto in a blissful state but he spends all the time talking about himself without trying to understand the pain Ranka is feeling which is why she left
Ep 21 showed how worried alto was thatís why he was rushing towards ranka and asked why she didnít sing or it looks to me like he was asking is there something wrong but it was ranka who refused to answer and instead she change the topic. And after seeing ai kun he was pretty shocked so I donít blame him for forgetting about rankaís feeling. But that doesnít mean he didnít love her.
Anyway, I donít have problems with the way he treats her rather Iím amazed of how he treat her since the very beginning. He acted not just being nice towards her but rather overprotective, he was the one who wanted to know more about her, he wanted to look his best , and even tried to find her when he was out of his sight and always knew that she in danger. Always risked his life from the beginning Ďtil the end of the series which I find it amazing..
i keeps saying this over and over again and im not tired of it.
Btw, he didnít actually confront ranka but that was more like what it showed by his gloomy face or dark expression.
it's a bit confusing..
ďIt's good that Alto wants to rescue Ranka but I don't know if he really understands the feelings that she had when she left. More than just wishing that you were with the person you have to take the effort to try to understand how they feel
I think itís not just good but it was great, awesome that he rescued her that he risked his life for her that he is overprotective when it comes to ranka. And one thing for certain alto doesnít want to see ranka crying so when he saw that he was also in pain thatís why he was screaming her name. If I were alto I probably feel the same way the thought of why you chose that monster over me. Is he more important than your fellow men. What about me? You said you love me and yet you say good bye. but obviously what comes out from my mouth is only RANKA RANKA RANKA...lol..
-is my post the right place to be?
My thoughts about sheryl - a tad of sheryl but sort of... *whistles*
I do not see why the Sheryl children would wish to quote her fallibility in the series over and over again, for it seems
without ranka's imperfection sheryl's importance would be halved, as grounds for liking her are all too casual: there's ranka's imperfection
and here's the heroine.
I do not express a hate for sheryl and I also feel that there should be a closure to all this offense. Ghost and effigies only serve to broil
a dislike for one's own being rather than an cause that is not one's self.
I also love sheryl and ranka also. I do not see these people as contestants fighting for alto.
I see alto, sheryl and ranka - as the chemistry of macross frontier. It's obvious for one so pompous that I am answered with hey isn't that
captain obvious? Diminish a part of the whole - that is part of macross - then diminish the whole. We need reminders.
*tongue in cheek*
