"The only prominent ability in the moveset right now is hunkering down and CHARGIN' THE LAZOR(S), and I just don't think that's right."
What, are you afraid of people making compensation jokes?
But seriously, more firepower than god isn't enough for you? I think being a walking WMD is something any overpowered lead male in a shonen series aspires to be...
@Cat Megex: I know that, but I want to give him a move from SRW that C.A. showed me a while back. I was thinking something along the lines of charging into the middle of a mob and hyperspeed beamspamming them from within. And just so we can being them in early and have Nano be much cooler, it'll be done with the assistance of bits. And I'd reverse the mobility and defense parameter changes for this speed form, as is done for Fate's sonic form. Though I'll probably have to come up with an armor form for Fate to balance this out, but as of right now I don't have anything planned yet.
And I dunno about giving the title to a fusion, and definitely not to Vita. She's supposed to be GGG-tan after all.
Which reminds me. When Vito/whatever the new name tries to take down Nano in A's, he should logically be screaming HIKARI NI NAREEEEEEEEEEEEE!
@Shiro: If you're wondering why I'm not so keen on the idea of just sitting pretty as an artillery, I'll have to refer you to a certain overpowered mobile suit.
And it's not like we couldn't make compensation jokes for either of them without new powerups.
> I'll have to refer you to a certain overpowered mobile suit.
Virtue/Seravee? (Those were actually the ones I thought of at first when I was trying to think of heavy-artillary, slow-moving units.)
Also, if Vita is GGG-tan, then Gina and Subaru should be GL-tans.
...Ah. So those were the ones you were thinking of for the VAs of Kamina and Simon.
Those Gundams are slow and bulky artillery. Nanoha is fast and sexy artillery. I'm referring to Strike Freedom. Though I guess you need to include Meteor when talking about the rainbow beam.
Anyway, I'd prefer there be more focus on high speed bit/funnel combat instead of REALLY BIG BEAMS. Which there will still be a lot of, mind you.
And yes, those are the two I was talking about.
RmX: Actually, I thought you were talking about artillery mecha you DIDN'T want Nanoha-kun to be like.
A Strike Freedom-type Nanoha would indeed be pretty awesome, though.
I guess I should clarify. I agree with the general concept of a form with higher firepower with reduced speed/mobilty and an armor increase, but the rules of shounen demonstrate that those will typically be beaten in one on one engagements. Nanoha is very much comparable to Strike Freedom, just that again, I'd prefer we not go with the MORE FIREPOWER add-on. Focus on the bits, but make them require a lot more effort than Jesus needed, like any "normal" Newtype.
Of course the obvious comparison that we should be making would be Nu Gundam, what with Fin Funnels and the White Devil and such.
Here is a whole list of references Nanoha had from various mecha and SRW, its a very long post and full of videos, but if people can read and watch everything, it will be very helpful. Basically genderbending the series will return the girls back to something closer to their homages and inspirations.
First of all, Nanoha is inspired by Amuro Ray and his Gundams, he is the White Devil, which Nanoha is infamous for.
Nanoha's Blaster 3's Raising Bit and pyramid trap came from Amuro and Nu Gundam, and this Gundam Evolve video even resembles her fight with Vivio:
For this genderbending, we're basing Nanoha off the manliest gunner of SRW, The Black Tornado, Elzam Branstein, or he prefers you to call him Retsuel Feinschmecker. Why do I link Nanoha to Retsuel is because of Feito-chan:
Feito-chan is a direct homage to SRW's top man, Zengar Zombolt, manliest German Samurai in all multiverses, his trademark line is "I am Zengar Zombolt, the Sword that cleaves evil! There is nothing my Zankantou can't cleave!!!":
You can see that Fate got his Zanba from Zengar's Zankantou, the gigantic sword materialises from a normal looking katana. Fate yells lines like 'Shippu Jinrai', which were Zengar's own lines. Zengar uses lightning and thunder to name his sword attacks, like Fate's lightning attacks.
But you can also see at the end of the video, is a combination attack of 2 men, one riding on another's, horse. That guy with goggles as a disguise is Retsuel, his mech Ausseinseiter transforms into a horse for a combo attack with Zengar. On SRW, we always say only the manliest men can ride with each other. At the end of the combo attack, they say "There is no one who can stop us."
Because Fate is Zengar, Nanoha is Retsuel, they both have a very strong friendship and bond. But similarly, before both friendships were established, they went through a period of fighting each other. Zengar fought Retsuel for a period before becoming friends again, like Nanoha used to fight with Fate. They are also a gunner and swordsman.
Retsuel is a super ace with a fearsome reputation, people on the battle field feel that they got swept by a tornado and get shot down before they can even see what the black blur was. Thus Retsuel had the fearsome title of 'Black Tornado'. Retsuel fights by charging straight towards the enemy and shooting them out of range just when they're on the horizon and flanking enemies rapidly to cause confusion, enemies feel overwhelmed like they were in a Tornado. He is like Nanoha when it comes to fighting, charging straight into battle, taking out enemies from beyond range and visibility, also attacking them from blind spots and unexpected places:
Zengar being the Lightning and Retsuel being the Tornado, their combination attack is like lightning and storms combining into a thunderstorm.
I keep asking myself, why does the REAL MEN joke work so well...?
Next we have Vita and Signum:
Vita is undoubtly a pure reference of Gaogaigar, I'll just need to show you videos.
Or even bigger:
Anyway Vita was fighting a bunch of cubes in the final fight of Nanoha Strikers, those were in the final fight of Gaogaigar FINAL as well. Then Vita proceeded to smash the core like Genesic Gaogaigar did smash his. One main difference between Guy and Vita is that Guy is friendly and approachable, only unstoppably hotblooded in battle, he is the most courageous man in the multiverses.
Signum is serious, has few words, has boobs, uses swords and final attack is a bow. She is partially a homage of SRW's Lamia Loveless:
Teana and Subaru
Teana and Subaru works as a pair, one being range, the other melee, they fight using team attacks. Teana is the more mature and careful of the pair while Subaru is the baka and reckless one. Teana is tsundere for Subaru, Subaru knows Teana worries for her recklessness but they have trust in each other.
Besides Subaru being a homage to rocket punches and hotblooded yelling of super robots like Gaogaigar:
The pair is also a reference to a pair from SRW, Seolla being the 'mature' tsundere worrying for the reckless Arad. Arad likes Seolla's boobs just like how Subaru like's Teana's, hmmm not sure whether I remembered this from doujins or the show itself.
Twin Bird Strike:
C.A.: You are the man. Or woman, if you're not a guy.
