Mecha fans gattai!
'Ello, all. I decided to join this group for a specific reason; namely, I need some advice on mecha design (...this is kinda random, but for some reason I see "mech" being singular while seeing "mecha" as plural).
The situation: I'm trying to design (and draw, though actually drawing it isn't the issue at the moment) a mech. For someone with a possible slight case of OCD such as myself, designing one is
. (Basically, I'm stuck on proportions; I have a mental image of what the mech should look like, but I keep second-guessing myself on just how to put that on paper. For example, I can't decide whether or not to make the "hip" of the mech at the halfway point of the figure, or what proportion the size of the head should be to the body; things like that.) The mech itself will be a little bulky (to use KMFs as examples, think something in between the Guren and Mordred, bulk-wise), but still be fairly streamlined. I'm using a design I came up with a while ago for the head, so there's no problem there, but...yeah. Any thoughts from you guys?
Oh, almost forgot: (some of) my favorite mecha shows
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Code Geass (I prefer the Shinkirou to the Shen Hu)
The Gundam franchise as a whole
Full Metal Panic
Proportion for all mech designs that are very close to human's, dividing the body into 10 parts:
Head - 1/10,
chest at 2/10,
waist at 3/10,
hips at 4/10,
legs for the remaining 6/10 of height.
Shoulder to finger tip would be 4/10 or 5/10 long depending on you.
EDIT: expect some technical sketches of the mech once I'm (mostly) finished.
Fav mechs: Hyaku Shiki, Zeta Gundam, Gundam F91, V2 Assault-Buster Gundam, Gundam Exia, Valkyrie II equipped with SAP system, Escaflowne, Mark Sein, Aquarion
So is Code Geass even still a mecha franchise? I better see some mecha action before the shows over cause if there's one gripe I've had this season it's that there's been more fantasy then mecha. A bit too much....balance must be restored.
Code Geass is turning into a drama anime as we speak
Code Geass was always a drama anime
The last few episodes of Code Geass is really disappointing but I am still hoping for it to get better and I still believe a one huge epic mecha battle will come. However the drama has basically took over and the recent mech battle has to be one of the worst, maybe even bad as one in GSD. Also I add few pictures of Big O which I have been starting to watch recently, and so far it is quite interesting.
The good fights should start next episode. I just want to see the Guren vs. Lancelot. Hopes from the new guy.
Hey Mecha fans! Stand back, noob passing through! lol =)
Alright the two high profile mech shows have ended, both Code Geass and Macross Frontier imo were great and both deserved the recognition that they got. Now I don't want spoiler so I am not going to post anything but out of the two surprisingly I liked Code Geass better. Though before either came out I thought Code Geass would be the better show. By the middle of the show I liked Macross better with its great battle scene and characters, while Code Geass' battle were kinda of lame and boring like Destiny. But the ending I say Code Geass was better. However both show I thought could have been better and I expected more from them.
So my question would be for people who watched both, which was your favorite mech show? and why?
Though now both being over we could now look for the true mech show we have been waiting for, which obviously is GaoGaiGar Project Z!
but seriously I am really excited for Gundam 00.
So, out of curiosity, who's following Nyoron subbing of Might Gaine? The first four episodes are out and it's pretty fun. It's an older show, from I think 1990-something, but it's still a lot of fun. If you haven't downloaded it, I definitely recommend you do so!
So, on to the second season of Gundam 00 and Linebarrel of Iron.
Might Gaine? And Nyoron is subbing it? Hmm...did they got better from their 00 fansub? Anyhow Might Gaine watched it bit as a kid and it was pretty good super robot show. The show was also a part of the Yussha series like GaoGaiGar, Fighbird, and Da Garn, and I do hope more of them will subbed someday.
Nyoron didn't look like they were translating properly, but they seemed to have gotten better as the series progressed. Regarding 00 that is.
I'm not sure of the quality of translations, to be honest. I do know they're the only one doing Might Gaine, though. I'm always looking for a solid robot oriented show to watch, but they seem to be a rare commodity.
Anyone got any recommendations of shows that are going on right now or that are readily available for download? I'm always down for recommendations.
If I remember correctly, Kurogane no LineBarrel/Linebarrel of Iron will be showing its first episode in a few hours. 9am I think? Or was it PM?
Oh man, I went to check out the Linebarrel thread and everyone in there is saying it's horrible. I'll have to watch the first episode and make a judgment call, though.
Yeah, well, it looks like a poor combination of ZoE 1 and Evangelion.
The story doesn't reflect the manga exactly, but Urei's right. The main character reminds you of Shinji Ikari and Shinn Asuka. And the art is reminiscent of Soukyuu No Fafner and Heroic Age.
