Due to recent events around the K-On forum, I hereby declare this as another useless side project.
Onwards to victory!
Hooray! Something came along to distract people from the latest project!
...We get things done in any case?
Anyways, I'm still having trouble coming up with a male version of Mio.
Anyone willing to slog through TVTropes' Anime Character Types database for me to see if anything jumps out at them?
Hey, we do things occasionally
When the Zero Motivation character flaw isn't in effect... though, since I've taken an extra slot of it to gain additional character points, I might be negatively affecting anything I touch... of course, that doesn't explain what the hell went wrong with the Shana-kun project
@Kaisos: Koyuki from Beck?
I've never seen Beck.
Can you describe his character type and personality in detail?
Character type: Hero's journey
Starts out similar to Shinji Ikari. Total friendless doormat.
As his music skills progresses he gains some confidence and nakama(His band, Beck); and when they discover his singing talent, he becomes
and wins instant accolades and becomes pivotal to his bands fortunes.
By the end of the story he bravely takes on corrupt music executives and gangsta's in the music business, to prove that his band is destined for greatness.
Personality: Starts off shy and unassuming. By mid-story end he has initiative to improve his skills, make friends and get gigs for his band. Every so often has the guts to go for CMOA, but a bit more often towards the end.
He's awkward with girls, but like any lead singer has to beat them off. Ends up dating the tsundere(slight). Often plays the straight man to his more eccentric bandmates.(even though the drummer Saku is even more of a straight man, his poker face keeps him from reacting properly to the gags) A bit of a ditz, and has caused quite some trouble because of that.
See. That's more Yui than it is Mio.
Can't have everything, but yeah..that sounds wrong for some reason.
Also I'm guessing this character has to be somehow fanservicey....in an all male school.
But *eYui is a total airhead. This guy, provides balance between his cool guy bassist, totally poker faced drummer, and the roughhousing rapper and criminally inclinned lead guitar.
Like Mio is the "balanced" character in the band.
There's not much music anime for templates. There's DMC and Beck for shounen, La'corda and Nodame for shoujo.
Mio's the long black haired one. The "airhead" would be Yui, the shorter haired one that reminds people of a mix between Nagisa and Fuuko from Clannad.
New suggestion: Shall we give male Yui (Yuu?)
as a counter to the original's
But male Ritsu (I can't think of an equivalent male name) is already hyperactive/impulsive ADD, like practically all drummers.
Wait, shit, I have a character type for (male) Mio (again, can't think of a name). Since he's a bassist, why not go with a shyer variant on the whole "cool, silent character" idea?
Basically what we had in mind for Alter Yuuki.
Then Taira, the bassist in Beck would work. Except for some reason Taira takes off his shirt whenever he plays.
I need to watch Beck.
Ritsu actually performs fairly well in both academic and social areas. I'd say he's the most well rounded of the group, but doesn't stand out in any particular field, which I think would be compensated by being the hotblooded driving force behind the group.
Yui exhibits symptoms of both ADD types, so my intent was to swing it more towards Hyper. The energy of the group originates here.
Mio being a down to earth, mellower version of Alt. Yuuki works well. We just need to find the proper Tsukkomi/Boke ratio for the interactions with the other three.
Male Mugi... not the typical sheltered Ouji character. His social IQ is bounds better than the stereotypes presented in other shows, but limited experience to common things such as fast food keeps this somewhat open to our interpretation.
Dojikko males, Adam and Tory of Mythbusters. When they are not blowing stuff up, they hurt or blow themselves up accidentally.
Yui should be like that, and to arrange it to how Yui is in the anime:
While running through the streets to school, he jumps over a fence and gets his leg stuck at the top and falls flat. But he continues and crashes into someone's trolley when the person emerges from a super market, he then helps the person pick up stuff from the trolley. While taking the old lady across the road, a flying plastic bag slaps into his face. The cat bites his fingers when he helps it down the tree. In school trips a staircase and falls down the steps, he looks upwards when he's at the bottom and finds himself staring up some pantsu.
Something like that.
