Even though this pretty much dropped off everyone's radar, this is a side-project, and I felt it merited its own discussion.

Of course, it probably would've helped if I actually had something to, you know, actually start a discussion... whoops

(Someone else can start a Shana discussion if they want, I'm willfully abstaining from that project for the time being )

I remember the discussion about this. I also seem to recall it dropping off when we realized it would mean that poor Keiko would be getting raped. Often.

But since that's exactly the sort of dark, angst-driven development that I love, RET'S PARTY!

And I figured that L4-L5 male Rena should look something like Viral, not to mention the cleaver as weapon of choice matches up.

And his name is "Reno", don't forget.

About Sato/Keiko's bat... I'm a bit unfamiliar with the culture of rural Japanese towns in 1982/1983, but would it be normal for girls to pick up baseball? While Sato gets away with it due to actually having an interest in the sport before carrying the bat everywhere, Keiko just started randomly carrying it around one day, saying "I'm thinking about playing baseball." Frankly, I think people would be a lot more weirded out by it than what Keiichi got, as his problem was that he was too similar to Satoshi before he "left."

(note: Obviously I'm just using Sato as a placeholder, as the only female form of Satoshi I can think of is... kinda taken already )

Why not just switch Satoshi and Satoko's names? It'd work.

And Higurashi payed little attention to the time period other than "no computers", so we really don't have to either.

Also also, I think weirding everyone out like that works even better.

Actually I had suggested that when this came up the last time. But like with Kyonko, I think it'd be in our best interest to come up with placeholder names to avoid confusion.

Of course, I'll admit that "Sato" could work for either of the Hojo siblings... damn family theme naming

Reno could say instead "That... is... AWESOME! I'm going to take it apart and see how it works!" And yes, he still says that about people for some reason. Because we all know that Reno can take people apart with his cleaver.

It's not as good as the original Rena, but it's the strongest male equivalent I can think of at the moment.

....Except that Satou is a surname.

First off, I've stated that it's a placeholder. Second, Sato and Satou are distinct from one another, and the former is a given name.

....Prove it.

Reno needs to have two crazy modes. The "take home" mode that is mostly harmless though intense, and the violent (though serious) killer mode. This second mode is actually uncommon and only really comes out during the sixth arc. Though there is a taste of it in the first arc via K1's point of view issues.

Reno, if one is following the script needs to have some detective traits, since Rena seemed to be the most observant of the group and figured things out partially in different arcs. Reno also needs to have a fearless streak when it comes to defending ones friends. His last stand should be slightly more epic than Rena's, but not much more as that was a pretty good use of psycological warfare when one has the low ground a lot of distance, and only a cleaver against someone with a god complex, the high ground, and a gun.

Also Reno may need to be able to play with K1's libido when needed during club games.

(Though thinking of it, how does one make a female K1 the largest pervert in Hinamizawa...aside from male Rika that is)?

Given the fact that we've successfully bent Taniguchi, I don't think we'll have much of a problem with K1 being pervy...

This makes K1 a RAGING SLUT.
