The Shipping War!
Yeah, but the flashbacks to her childhood and the time when the 117th Exploratory fleet went down don't really support her being so much older than Alto or Ranka. I would deem it impossible that Sheryl was living on the streets when Mao was still alive. Grace also wasn't living on Galaxy before that and we know how old Banana and Ranka were at that time. So Sheryl can't be much older than Alto and Ranka, probably at maximum one year, which puts her at about 17-18.
Oh lol, just for a very, very late fyi, those and a few other tumblr posts were the reason I wrote my stuff on the blog posted on the main board. I have not been around OD's tumblr for months now and I hope this will not change in the future. Just ugh.
Why is anyone subjecting her/himself to this by their own will? I was very happy when Cthulhu was banned.
I originally thought this thread could be applied to just about any shipping wars out there right now, but I don't think any shipping war, not even
would have the appeal, influence, and excitement of the Macross triangle.
Still, an IS shipping war would be quite fun. At least its one where we do not need to resort to our usual military deployment...
Tak, you called this thread
Shipping War. To Macross Frontier fans like us, referring to
Shipping War can only refer to
shipping war. :P
If we want to try to get some new shipping wars going, I suggest starting thread for "Shipping
maggy: an AruSheri fan and some AruRan fans asked her questions, she replied and those got some responses that I saw. I have her blocked, I don't block other people and can see reblogs. I also post a lot of Macross related stuff on tumblr, so searching the tag is part of my daily routine. Hard to scroll through without not seeing... stuff.
The part that ended up striking a nerve multiple times was some people taking her "Sheryl shouldn't be in the show she is not part of the Vajra plot" and going with it in separate posts. Instead of going into pointless arguments I felt it would be better if I put together my own personal thoughts on the subject and posted them on my blog.
There hasn't been anything new since, as far as I know, but since I got my own arguments out of my system, even if there was, I would do my best to stay far away from it.
As for general shipping wars, good thing I was never into the Harry Potter couples... good lord.
@matts: Ah, yes, the "Although I've put that person on ignore, I can still see their stuff in quotes from other people" problem. I know it well from multiple forums. Well, OD will eventually let it go, one hopes. I myself took about five to seven years to let go of different things which didn't go my way (Anakin Solo's death, Spike/Buffy, The Star Wars post-ROTJ EU, Ultimate Peter Parker's death... although the latter one did go surprisingly fast, with only about two years of angry denial ^^).
The love or the hate for Spike/Buffy? I'm in a really bad corner there, I liked Buffy with both Spike and Angel, and both relationships and guys because they were very different. So when I read about some hate/criticism on a blog I just kept shaking my head, like "no, no, that's not how it was, no, no shipping, not here too".
I never manages to keep up to the Star Wars EU but I dislike the prequel movies with a passion. Well, not enough to rant, just enough to try to ignore discussions, change the channel or cover my ears and go "lalala". I don't know what Disney will do to the franchise, but I hope it will be at least okay. You can't please anyone, but if I can have a small wish granted, it would be far less romance.
Ahahahahah, you wouldn't believe the fights we got into between my side of the Redemptionista S/B shippers and, well, a lot of people who hated Spike, hated Spike with Buffy, hated anybody with Buffy who was not Angel and so on and so on. BtVS fandom has a byzantine sprawl of different fan groups.
Well, I could go on about the Star Wars EU for hours, but I need to go to bed right now, so maybe later. ^^
of Star Wars EU stuff when I was younger, but nowadays I'm pretty meh towards most of it. The big exception is Timothy Zahn's
Note a huge fan of the prequels, but I've often felt the rage over them was pretty over the top. Ditto the Special Editions, even if I prefer Han shooting first.

A few years back I looked at my mound of EU books, chose a particular event, and decided that everything after that event
did not exist
. You can probably guess what that was.
The Disney + Abrams = New Stuff! idea is not something I'm looking forward to. Mostly because of the Eaten By Disney issue.
There were so many awful books in the NJO and after that I really can't say, Knackwurst. ^^
And I am cautiously optimistic about Star Wars under Disney. Marvel is doing well under them.
Gravitas Free Zone
I donated away everything I had from
onward. (Though I did keep the Stackpole and Allstons from NJO.) My breaking point was during the
series, when I actually stopped reading and "WTF is this shit?" out loud. After that I would just sample things in the public library.
Granted, the first Bantam run had its clunkers (that...
... from Vonda McIntyre...), but those were minor problems compared to books in the same series from different authors having wildly-different interpretations of the same characters.
And I figure that the new movies will end up ignoring HttE, which will make me feel bad. Since that was actually
compared to how things turned out in 1999.
Yeah, I get how you feel. I somehow stayed with this crap until Fate of the Jedi, probably against hope that they would get better one day. But it has been the Troy Denning show for almost a decade now and he is such a horribly middling and uninspired writer that his ideas drag the entire EU down. :-/
