The Shipping War!
Er... As in when you asked who he saluted and all the stuff popped up which are now gone. What is the salute's meaning, really?
Ah, I think this is going to be fun.
Seriously, if you want me to take your arguments seriously, just refrain from declaring Ranka the purest purity ever purified in sparkly diamond dust. It's a bullshit argument to try to deflect all responsibility for one characters actions because of stuff like "innocence" and
demand that the same character should be taken seriously in a romantic rivalry.
An obvious rebuttal to your claim on who Alto saluted. But, that is really irrelevant, so I will just leave you be in your
I did not mention innocence. Ok if I did I will justify it. Give me one hour and I should be home and posted here
LOL, guys, just let the girl take her time will ya? Geez.
A fact that was WRONG (on the salute).
I would like some aspirin now please.
Bah, Westlo, do whatever the hell you want.
Nah my rage is gone, I just find it hilarious how it was a salute for Ranka, not even Ranka fans back in the day claimed that, they were going for "It's a salute for both of them". Which is also obviously wrong to anyone with a clue and the even the frame by frame analysis of the salute (omg at the end it's like the Yo he does the Ranka in episode 10!!) doesn't change Alto's position, his trail before he did the salute and the depth perception of the scenes.
Is this the second or the third Shipping War?
Oh don't mind me, I'll just be a witness like in the last one since we have some great soldiers, besides our side can't lose because we have a Macross "canon"
I think I'll go to make some popcorn.
Just remember. No fucking bullshit made up "facts".
Like "the creators pick out from fan stories to turn them into the official novels. In fact there's a novel of Hikaru choosing Minmay blah blah shit."
Yeah, a certain someone actually wrote that. Along with.
"I saw on TV an interview of Kawamori saying he was forced to change the original ending from an Aruran one to Arusheri. I was very disgusted watching that interview that was only exclusive on my TV outside Japan. Of course I can't prove it so I'll just act defensive blah blah blah."
I don't think it's fair to call this a War, to quote the Daleks... "This isn't war, this is pest control.".
It's more like the civil war re-enactment. Fight all you want, the winner remains the same.
We the globetrotters, they the generals.
I think the best the other side can hope for is a "Yeah, sure, the series didn't 100% that S/A is the definite canon ending and the other media are not in the same continuity" admission. And I'd have to be heavily sleep-deprived and in a hurry for something monumentally important in RL to even think about saying something like that.
Oh, God... there goes the neighborhood!
And just when I was getting used to all the light-reading as of late.
My first essay would be to justify Ranka's actions one by one. It will be with reference to the original anime and screencaps will be provided. I will also be referring to Maguskn's post, in order to answer her.
Let the war begin, then.
I shall start from episode 13, due to me being unable to find episode 12's video, .

. The only explanation I have ever found which does not assume overwhelming stupidity on Rankas part is her disassociative amnesia. It was never really spelled out on the show, however.
Here it is.
First of all, justify what Ranka says will actually help Frontier. If you cannot have definite evidence that it will help Frontier, I find really no reason to take your point.
I am stating this respectfully, so no reason to flare up, yeah?
I will now show the evidence of Ranka's Dissociative Amnesia, since you said that it was not spelt out in the show...
And so... Alto remembers Ranka's Dissociative Amnesia
Camina explaining to Alto and co. about how Ranka's amnesia happens
Alright, now this may be proof that shows that Ranka forgot about the visions she saw. However, I can also say that Ranka plain did not think that it was important. Or maybe she did want to keep it from Alto and co., but I cannot find a reason for that. So I am more inclined towards the second option.
Now, for citations from real world scientific documents.
I shall quote.
"When people lose their ability to memorize data they have amnesia. Amnesia also refers to an inability to recall information that is stored in memory. In simple terms, amnesia is the loss of memory. The causes of amnesia may be organic or functional".
"Organic causes may include brain damage through injury, or the use of specific drugs - usually sedative drugs. Amnesia may be one of the symptoms of some degenerative brain diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease."
This will be suggesting Ranka is on drugs, so... no.
"Functional causes are psychological factors, such as
This reason would be what I would suggest.
Causes of functional or psychogenic amnesia
Also known as dissociative amnesia. This is caused by an emotional shock, such as:
Being the victim of a violent crime.
Being involved in combat (soldiers).
Being involved in a natural disaster.
Being present during a terrorist act.
The list is endless - basically, any intolerable life situation which causes severe psychological stress and internal conflict.
It is really nice that they make the science suit the story.
I would quote.
"Psychogenic amnesia, or dissociative amnesia, is a memory disorder characterized by sudden retrograde autobiographical memory loss, said to occur for a period of time ranging from hours to years. More recently, 'dissociative amnesia" has been defined as a dissociative disorder "characterized by retrospectively reported memory gaps. These gaps involve an inability to recall personal information, usually of a traumatic or stressful nature.'"
So, there. Justified. And towards the point where I said everybody may have it...
"In Freudian psychoanalytic theory, defence mechanisms (or defense mechanisms) are psychological strategies brought into play by the unconscious mind to manipulate, deny, or distort reality (through processes including, but not limited to, Repression, Identification, or Rationalization), and to maintain a socially acceptable self-image or self-schema. Healthy persons normally use different defences throughout life. An ego defense mechanism becomes pathological only when its persistent use leads to maladaptive behaviour such that the physical and/or mental health of the individual is adversely affected. The purpose of ego defence mechanisms is to protect the mind/self/ego from anxiety and/or social sanctions and/or to provide a refuge from a situation with which one cannot currently cope. The term "defence mechanism" is often thought to refer to a definitive singular term for personality traits which arise due to loss or traumatic experiences, but more accurately refers to several types of reactions which were identified during and after Sigmund Freud's daughter Anna's time.
Defence mechanisms are sometimes confused with coping strategies."
...And so I was not pulling my stuff out of thin air... so, are you going to accept my point now?
The evidence is with me...
Maybe I will submit the rest of my essay over the next few days/weeks, I have Japanese homework to do... ok?
BleachOD is that you? No, not enough pictures...
Can we agree that since we cannot blame Sheryl for her physical condition, we cannot blame Ranka for her mental condition as well...?
And, BetoJR, I am NOT. I repeat, NOT like her as to go rampaging on the forums. My screencaps are purely for reference only, and only that.
And my true name is not Ozuma-Rii either. In fact I share a surname with Ranka... and the fact that I am living in Singapore. And that I am not even 21.
The fuck....? Wow you're really putting protective barriers around your fragile, dainty lolimoe princess.
Well, your Pop diva also has barriers around herself.
Heavily noted that her health condition is usually a win all once it in mentioned.
So, I shall regard only her decisions while she has control over herself, while not traumatized nor brainwashed.
But if you insist, I can.
And she is rather tough for what I think of her, I'd say. She isn't the sort to crumble immediately.
One more thing: Just like Sheryl did not ask for her illness, Ranka did not ask to be Brainwashed nor did she ask for her amnesia. There. This is not protection, and it is justified...right?
