The Shipping War!
I'll just put in my two cents that my flag will forever way high for Alto and Ranka no matter what;
nor will it turn white
. Understand that and move on with your lives instead of starting arguments about how great or crappy your ship is.
Also, I wonder... can we mention other ships or is this just for Macross (since I only see that so far...)
I've shipped many others... and just recently found a yuri pairing that isn't canon but still... and I was wondering if I can list my ships in full?
I thought we'd wait a bloody month?
I really can't invest the time right now, RL issues come first.
If you're talking to me, I never said that. You've mistaken me for the other AR shipper here.
Talking to Ozuma-Rii, indeed. Your next postmonster in the now ( thanks to you ) closed thread will also be ignored, since I can't spend one hour per post refuting all the nonsense. Maybe after my two exams are done, which is after October 19th.
Um, may I remind you that I wasn't the one to start the topic. Also, I did not start in a major shipping war and was merely discussing my defense of the character. The thread was closed because mods are a pain.
Also, good luck with your exams. You'll be done with them five days after my birthday. -faints- Wow...
Yeah, okay. You are right on the account that the mods have been way to touchy about stuff lately.
And thanks for the well wishes.
She isn't the sort to crumble immediately.
What... I... What...
since they lost in canon and in the movies, the only defensible position they have left is the series in, which I consider, Ranka was left in the most terrible position to try to win over Alto?
Well... GOOD LUCK!
Just stick to your fanon, doujins, and make believe worlds.... only resurface when you stop rehashing the same old thing please. Do it for my brain, which always hurts after reading long ass pro-Ranka posts.
I dunno, it's
to argue about this. Period. Kawamori stated he would explicitly resolve the triangle. He did. End of story. What's left is a an oil spill of denial and sour-graping that refuses to be burned away.
To be fair, my stuff wasn't even really about the ship, because it has sailed and it is named the MS Sheryl/Alto. Tchoo tchoo.
It just chaps my ass that Ranka fans want to whitewash all the bad stuff for which Ranka is pretty directly responsible. At which point does a character have to take responsibility for her bad decisions? One thousand dead citizens of Macross Frontier? Ten thousand? A hundred thousand?
Now now, maggy. Mind her mental condition now.
Yeah, she's pretty much a "Woobie of Mass Destruction".
I prefer characters whose actions must not be excused with "but she can't be held responsible, her mind is fragile, she is so immature!"
LOL. And don't forget, "but despite being fragile and immature, she is sooo mature and ready where it counts, to be in a relationship with ALTO-KUNN! KYAA!"
And I better don't start about where Ranka fans wishes put Alto on the morality meter. Oh, I better don't. Studying. Should do more of it. Grrrr.
And see, you go right back to bashing her character. That is why the Macross thread is watched so often because when one fan decides to disagree, you go and bash the character.
I'm not randomly bashing Sheryl. I never bashed her in the first place. My opinion is purely mine. But bashing and its definition, are what you are doing now, thus defending my earlier statement about defending my character.
No, I am actually bashing the horrible defense I've seen of Rankas actions which I've seen over the last days. Scratch that, over the last four years.
And that Altos character integrity also gets thrown under the bus by Ranka fans quite a lot. Which, grantedly, is an old grudge which doesn't stem from you and Ozuma-Rii, but your predecessors.
I only have a problem with Alto's character in the movies being butchered compared to his series self, which was much more productive in the case of the love triangle but also was more about solving his gender issues than accepting them just for the hell of it. So I can't join those people you say about in that because I have no tie to hating Alto for personally choosing to love another woman or for all of his so-called "mistakes" that other AR fans address. My problem lies in the changes made to his character.
Oh, totally agreed here. The only character who I found substantially improved in the movies was Ranka.
So then why was there a need to change Alto? That is what I don't get. The only one who didn't change much, if any, was Sheryl; and ironically, that made her come off as static to people who saw the series.
They changed up Alto because people were complaining that he kept his feelings too private and thus they couldn't relate to him. Personally, I called that "subtle characterization" in the series, but other people felt otherwise. I am pretty much his biggest defender on this board at least, anyway.
As for Sheryl, they messed up. They cut out most of Sheryls journey from the series and just introduced her at the "awesome in all aspects" level. And then they messed it up by assigning a very loathsome moment to her, which undermined all the rest greatly.
