A Song of Fire and Ice
I know there are some geeks here..
Do not wake the sandragon.
Eh, I'd rather discuss about more advanced stuff in the novels, anyway. Not that big a fan of San/San, especially since in the novels the kids are still really pretty young. Martin did himself a pretty big disservice with not using the time jump after ASoS, now he's stuck with a bunch of 11-16 year olds as some of his main protagonists.
Things I'd love to discuss:
- Jons parentage
- Where does Tyrion go from here? ( ADWD ending )
- Why is Dany so much fail lately?
Yeah Dany has been kind of a downer of late. And I won't deny her shortcomings.
Also, there is a plausible theory that Jon is a love child between Ned's sister and Dany's brother..
I think it is almost a certainty on the latter part. Too many clues point in that direction.
About Dany: I want the girl to get her shit together and go off to kick ass on Westeros, but she keeps on puttering around in the middle of nowhere for her stupid city of people who hate her guts. :-/
You'd think by this time she would be in Westeros by now.. >.>
Oh, she's coming for them, now. There's no way back for her, I don't think - only if it involves blood and fire, actually.
Also, yeah, Jon's most certainly the true heir to the throne, given the Targaryen's lineage. How we'll ever know for a certainty, I don't know. Also, isn't he dead, now?
They're keeping us in suspense. I certainly hope he and Ghost are alive.
He's dead and then he's not. There were extensive hints about warging in the novel.
Regarding Jon, those were few and far between. But I guess that, when pressed for a swift response... I mean, they even brought his stepmother back, right?
No, I think those hints were really spelled out extensively. Varamyr Sixskins and his flashbacks. Melisandres words to Jon at the beginning of the novel. I'd be shocked if they really killed Jon. I just wonder how he gets back out of Ghost. New body? That'd suck a bit, IMHO.
On the topic of Daenarys, I'm curious what Khal Jhaqo has in store. It will not be pleasant methinks...
And then we have Aegon.
Since I don't mind spoilers, I'd just wanted to come in and voice that its a great series so far and I'm going to be starting A Storm of Swords here this week
I probably wont be joining any big discussions, but I'll certainly be lurking.
Eh, the Khal better be prepared to bow down quickly, lest he end up charbroiled by Drogon. ^^
Aegon... I don't know what to make of that, yet. It really came out of left field.
I'd be shocked if they really killed Jon.
You really do underestimate the beard, don't you?
The beard is the source of all power....
Glad to have ya with us Michi. ^^
Look, I actually don't. But there's a difference between characters. Ned was the entry "standard fantasy reader" POV character and his death was meant to be a shock to the system. It also served as the catalyst for most other stuff which came after it. Robb never was a POV character.
But GRRM works a lot with foreshadowing and generally does not kill off characters just for shock value alone. He has built up Jon for several novels. He wrote the foreshadowing
into ADWD that Jon would change skins in the future. Jon ain't dead-dead. Only "mostly dead". ^^
Hey, I'm pretty sure Jon's not dead myself. But that's not always a good thing. Just look at Catelyn and Brienne.
Yeeeah, it remains to be seen what it does to him. And Brienne... yikes, but there is a character who fell down on her face as soon as she got her own POV chapters. A lot.
Despite Dany's downer moments, I still pray and hope that she manages to get a horde of bloodthirsty Dothraki to Westeros shores. It would be beautiful bloodshed~ And Jhaqo seems to provide the opportunity..
How she'd manage to get that horde is the head-scratcher. Perhaps by dragon threat or marriage alliance (but then again Jhaqo is no Drogo. And Dany loses points for the result of Miri's bloodspell).
....Dragons it is.
