Girls und Panzer discussions!
Your welcome!! It's one of my all time favorites! Linda
I imagine a heated argument eventually coming here...
With the kind of shells they are throwing at each other right now over there... sooner or later the mods will shut their collective anger in a tight lid, which I cannot say is healthy for the mind...
I should just note that Random Wandere and Sumeragi's vitriol at each other aside, I've trying to argue my position based on fact and ideological paradigms. I do feel annoyed to be tarred with the same brush as Random Wanderer and others who are unable to articulate themselves effectively, and who resort to childish insults because they are unable to provide reasoned arguments and civil discourse.
It is rather annoying however, how Sumeragi blithely and smugly ignores and dismisses what she doesn't agree with. Including the opinions of professional soldiers I know on another board, as they're apparently not Japanese or Korean Army, and so she cares not for their opinions.
Does seem a little racist, doesn't it?
When I have time, I guess I will be adding more to the conversation, hopefully in a more positive light.
But the funny thing is... we are debating
on a fictional sport that nobody in real life would ever have a chance to participate. Not that it matters, but just remembering that fact brings up a chuckle
This argument/discussion/debate over Miho's heroic rescue though, did remind me of a recent incident:
A Californian nursing home refused to perform CPR and allowed a patient to gradually die, right in front of surrounding nurses and bystanders. Why?
1. Fear of a lawsuit
2. Over-reliance on government & corresponding aid.
If Miho's teammate just happened to die from the incident due to lack of prompt assistance... I have to wonder if students of Black Forest would be able to live with themselves. Of course, this is not placing a value judgment. There are consequences of everything that you do (without a government bail out, so don't ask), and in Miho's case, she traded victory for life.
I get annoyed when people don't act civil. Don't speak down to me, bro!
Reminds me of Garbad: "Why are you getting so upset over someone
being better than
disagreeing with you
about internet tanks?"
As I mentioned earlier... this argument essentially boils down to a simple fact that Senshado is a
sport... that body in real life would ever have a chance to participate in groups...
Yeah, I said that, twice -- more specifically we're arguing about
in a fictional sport using tanks and blank shells. Then again what do I expect by standing and pointing at someone and saying: "You're not being objective!"
It's like noticing my fiance is upset and saying: "You're upset." "No, I'm not!" "You totally are!"
If you ask me, I think this recent discussion is
Does it warrant a discussion? Probably... but does it warrant a
bloodthirsty/I will kill you/WAGGGGHHHHH!!!
discussion? Probably not...
Ok ok, I have to admit, I made the same mistake before (Oh hi Sheryl). Looking back, even I feel silly...
That's my point though, I'm shocked how uncivilized people are being about the whole thing. I haven't even been involved until just yesterday and I am basically distilling the arguments down to it's main logical points and facts (which people may disagree about, fine, that's okay if we can determine the reasons) .. and people are apparently angry at me or belittling me? Nuh uh, girlfriend, nuh uh uh!
I was playing Heart of the Swarm last night and thought I should check out the boards.
And lo, did I witness
! Three full pages
over the same topic!!
I thought to myself...
I'm willing to admit that Senshadou is much more dangerous than would be tolerated here. Maybe they don't value life as much as we do, and maybe by their standards, Miho was wrong not to attempt to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat (because let's be serious - she was very probably going to lose anyway. What was she going to do to make a difference, catch Pravda's shells with her bare hands and throw them back?)
I still say that by the standards of anyone who values human lives a lot more than high school trophies, she did the right (if maybe not the very best) thing.
Angry~! Hm, image link broked..
I also don't really see that there's that much animosity in the discussion. Dismissiveness, sure. Some incivility, maybe. But it's not the flame war you're painting it as.
Uh, incivility is ok now? Nope. And again, I disagree with your very premise about what the crux of the argument is. I have also hashed that out with someone that didn't speak rather dismissively to me on first blush .. so I'd prefer not to move that here so with that said,
dynamic content not loaded. Reload?
No, no, I'm genuinely curious. While I can see it hasn't been all love and kisses, what is it about the whole thing you find beyond the pale?
Then I am genuinely curious whether you read the last 3 pages of discussion before you posted. Bystanders have gotten concerned to the point they politely inquired with me on what I thought about calling in forum moderators. I was barely visiting the thread at all until I saw tempers flaring. You can go to my profile and see -- I pointed out it didn't seem necessary and hopefully calmer heads would prevail if some cold and logical rationalism could be applied. Others have railed back and forth against specifically: 1) emotional biases and 2) others being dismissive and rude.
Finally, after a modicum of civility had returned -- Wild Goose and Ark laying out point and counterpoint in a calm and relaxed manner with me and generally the mood becoming more civil -- you then make your post in the tone that you did. So in isolation? Yeah, what you said is typical forum discussion-style tone, but in this particular context? Seriously?
