I have to admit, seeing all this chatter* is making me want to replay the game, too. And the mana-gathering advice seems handy.
(I admit, I
the part about five being the optimal speed of mana-gatherers (or that ghosts could beat the pace), so I've often been burning familiar slots and time on needless gatherers! I mean, when you start a level with a Fairy Ring and four Elves, it never occurred to me that I only need
more Elf to optimize my mana looting!)
*And the fact that I'm plugging away at the Bartido story as this month's baseline project.

RTS games tend to have an upper limit of effective gatherers. Just knowing that makes it a little easier to figure out what that number is without looking at FAQs. (read: I didn't cheat; I had an advantage!)
On a semi-related note, I kind of wish GG was multiplayer balanced.

Yep, pretty much. You learn a lot of fun stuff like that simply because it's a staple of the genre.
And dear God, I wish so, too! It'd be so much fun to do stuff like team battles and so on.

I've definitely kept the mana-gathering familiar limit in mind, so I did a little better. I like using Phantoms, but they just die so easily against enemy Skullmages
I must say, I'm getting a better appreciation for how combat works for fanfiction!

What's the best way to kill enemy Morning Stars?
Homunculus drop them like flies. Alternatively, skullmages,
Fuyu no Sora
If you've already got the Laboratory, deathy, the only thing you need to do is create Homunculus and use their Clairvoyance ability to see what's where.
Heck, if you want, you can start the level on Sweet, use the above strategy, and once you know exactly who is where, you quit and restart the level on Normal or whatever difficulty you prefer.
As for Morning Stars, take your pick: Skullmages, Homunculi's Psychic Storm, Chimeras' normal attack (so long as you've used Clairvoyance beforehand on the area where the Morning Stars are), Dragons' fire breath (again, use Clairvoyance before. The Dragons' fire does much more damage this way), Unicorns' Astral Hold + Horn attack...many ways to murder enemy familiars.
Clairvoyance + Demon pack works nicely, too.
Really, it boils down to this:
Astral Hold from a Unicorn will paralyze it, and then you can kill it with anything.
As everyone's noted, Psychic Storm will ream it. Skullmages can shoot them down with standard attacks (make sure to spread them out, though).
Or go after it with Clairvoyance + high-damage Substance familiars of any kind.
(Just don't use Phantoms. Morning Stars eat them for breakfast, almost as badly as Homunculi do.)

Actually you could use Phantoms against the Morning Stars so long as you have
already attacking them and they're distracted with that, or they're caught in Astral Hold. But to send them as your only type of offense against them would be foolish, seeing as, Astral or not, Morning Stars
the ultimate Glamour familiar...
I saw some comments from Laith and Sora earlier in the thread, which I'd been meaning to ask about. Now that I finally have an account...
What kinds of strategies to people use on IV-5 (fourth week, last day), and what kinds of scores do you get?
Summon many Dragons and pray. I'm very not good at that battle, and am usually happy to hold out until the end; most times I try to go on the offensive I lose to Amoretta's fuzzy little cousins.
Oh, hey, quick question: Does Gum Drop work on Astral familiars within a Clairvoyance effect, or does that still not function?
Nobody else has any particular reply, I guess...
I brought up the subject of that level because I seem to have fluked my way into a perfect strategy for it - either that, or I've got a scratched disc that doesn't properly load encounters on that map. (I kind of doubt that, since the other levels all seem to work fine, but...)
Would anyone be willing to try the strategy I used, which was, basically, "take 8 fairies around the outside of the map and wipe out all the Runes without touching the defenses"? I can provide details if necessary - the only really important thing is to take the left side first.
(Dezo: Not having ever gotten Gum Drop to work on anything, at any time, I can't really comment one way or the other.)
Sora would be the one to ask about game strategies; she's definitely head and shoulders above all of the rest of us when it comes to gameplay skills.
