Pokemon League: Rules and Character Creation
Well, you've made it. You have obtained Eight Badges from a region of your choice, and have already cleared the preliminaries and the first couple of rounds in the tournament. You should be proud to have made it this far, and all of you are experienced, competent trainers. In this thread, the eight of us will be competing in an elimination style tournament. The matches will be six-on-six, with my good friend Corin T'shas'Va judging the matches. Remember that proper match etiquette means that you should post an attack, but not necessarily that it hits (your opponent will still get a chance to defend against you) Corin judging means that the matches will be, for the most part, fair.
There will be three separate threads for this tournament. One, the lobby, will be where our characters mingle with one another while they aren't currently fighting, watching the current battles, ect. The other two will be separate arenas, where the matches are actually fought. I will be using a random number system to see who starts off battling who. Please remember, try your best to be fair. Remember that Corin IS a judge, and as such he has power to tell you when a pokemon is no longer able to battle, if you're being unfair, yadda yadda. Hopefully he won't have to and we can all have fun with this
The battle field is a large football field sized rectangle. The basic field is hard packed earth and rock with patches of grass or a random boulder here and there. There is an open roof where the league has grown trees overhead to create a slight canopy. Inscribed in the rectangle is the outline of a pokeball shape caved into the stage filled with water, making somewhat of a mote. The outer circle of the "pokeball" and the inner circle are both uncovered pools of water, bu the lines leading from the outer circle to the inner circle are covered by a thick metal grate.
(It is kinda complicated to explain this whole setup, if anyone has questions feel free to PM me)
I shouldn't have to say this, but NO LEGANDARIES. You are also allowed one pokemon from the newly released fifth generation, but no more. Any other pokemon you wish to use is fair game. Pokemon can have no more then five moves. Also, remember that the battles won't strictly follow the games. Under used pokemon such as Swellow and Tropius are just as easily usable as a Dragonite or Metagross. But be a bit realistic with it (A Rattata probably won't be doing to hot...)
The matches will be single battles, best three out of five. You choose the order of the pokemon you want and PM them to Corin. After one pokemon falls, the winner calls them back and the next two come out. If you have any questions about these rulings, feel free to ask me
Appearance: Tall, broad-shouldered youth of about twenty. Red hair, shoulder length. Wears a red t-shirt with black shorts, and a single silver bracelet on his right arm.
Bio: Born in Johto, when Koops was younger he started a pokemon journey, to become the best, and compete in the pokemon league. Although last time he was here, all those years ago, he was eliminated early into the tournament. Now that he's back, with his Hoenn Badges, he has finally made a name for himself, and made it into the quarter finals. With the championship title so close, Koops will refuse to give up until he finally makes it to the top.
Personality: Loud and jolly, but fairly determined, Koops seems like someone who employs fairly simple battle styles-for indeed, he has little interest for fancy, elaborate strategy. However, although he is bad at coming up with his own unique strategies to beat his opponents, he has trained his pokemon to be ready for anything, and they are nothing if not adaptable. He cares for his pokemon like family, and has even nicknamed them all, strenghtining his bond with them.
A pokemon that Koops befriended after offering it some Honey early in his journey, Baily has been with Koops for awhile, since he first took a shot at the league. Baily is physically very powerful, but also quite easily intimidated and pushed aroung, and often requires Koops' encouragement and direction to be sucessful in battle, but Bailey has proven his strenght many times over, and Koops is sure that he won't be dissapointed with his performance.
Moves: Megahorn, Brick Break, Stone Edge, Protect, Seismic Toss
In his travels, Koops had encountered a large flock of various bird pokemon, all gathered in the forest. Koops had no idea what they where gathered there for, but once they saw him, all of them took to the skies immedietly, fleeing. But one,a large Kenhorou, stayed and attacked. During the battle, Koops admired how the proud flying type stubbornly refused to give up, and caught him. Strut has failed to dissapoint Koops so far, being a vital and often used member of the team.
Moves: Air Slash, Aerial Ace, Double Team, Morning Sun, Quick Attack
Recieved as a turtwig, Macinac, or "Mac" for short, was like most starters, a massive powerhouse on Koops' team, and has, over time, adopted much of his trainers mannerisms and habits. Despite his speed problem, Mac can hold his own against almost any opponent, and is sure to be a tough opponent to beat.
Moves: Frenzy Plant, Crunch, Giga Drain, Toxic, Body Slam
Another early capture, Rex was obtained as a larvitar and has only recently evolved into a tyranitar. Despite this, Rex is a powerhouse in Koops' team. She is a a massively powerful battler, and Koops is confident that she will help him win this tournament.
Moves: Aqua Tail, Fire Fang, Thunderpunch, Earthquake, Ancientpower
Captured as a carvahna, and later trained into a sharpedo, Crunch is restricted to water battles, but she has proven herself to be a fast and deadly opponent in her element, with few being able to brag about defeating her.
Moves: Aqua Jet, Crunch, Agility, Boiling Water, Swift
Another pokemon that was captured early in Koops' career, Kodiak is a powerhouse and often used in battle. With it's large size and amazing strength, Kodiak is definatly a force to be reckoned with.
Moves: Slash, Hammer Arm, Ice Punch, Focus Blast, Shadow Claw
Appearance: medium height, light brown hair with a heavy cowlick in front. He wears a Hawaiian shirt and shorts. He has silver eyes and is in his twenties.
Back story: Born in far away lands, Grey moved to Hoenn to train pokemon with his Crawdaunt. As he furthered his career he began developing "strange" bonds with his pokemon. This odd connection lead him to become fit for battling and he took on the pokemon gyms. He beat Roxanne easy, but couldn't go beyond that. After some hep from his father though he gained the required momentum to push past Brawly and his time as a trainer spiraled from there, The end of this spiral being the league he hopes to win now.
Personality: He himself is rather nonchalant and likes to battle no more than for fun. But he has an odd gift that connects his personality to his pokemon's. It is this connection that makes him more serious about battling. Due to this connection, he also has the tenancy to change his personality based on the pokemon he has out in battle.
Male Crawdaunt: Lobmonster
Grey's first pokemon, it was with Lobmonster that Grey discovered his gift. One day he went from being carefree and nonchalant to a mimic of Lobmonster: Rash and driven. As Grey shared this bond he understood how Lobmonster wanted to battle the pokemon gyms and granted this wish.
Moves: Crabhammer, Waterfall, Night Slash, Super Power, and X-Scissor
Male Exeggutor: Ferdinand (Fern)
Ferdinand is Grey's family's pokemon... he is also "not a pokemon"
Ferdinand believes himself to be a house plant, believing so, he often likes to stand still in combat and simply thinks himself an overly intellectual tree.
Given to Grey by his father to help him beat Brawly, he has been with Grey ever since.
Moves: Giga Drain, Sleep Powder, Leech Seed, Psychic, and Ingrain
Evil Sableye: Dark Prince
At time's begin, there was land. On this land the first dawn was had, and where there is light there is darkness. Dark Prince was born of this first shadow, or at least so he beieves. Prince's first encounter with Grey happened neat Brawly's gym, after Grey and Lobmonster were defeated he could "see the darkness in Lob's heart". Beliving he could turn Lob into a powerful minion he began to follow Grey around, hiding within the shadows. To Prince's dismay, after the gym was beaten Grey was about to leave. Wanting to see the Crawdaunt's potential he devised a plan. He asked his good friend Zoroark to transform into Steven Stone and lure Grey into the island cave. The plan went off perfectly and Grey followed "Steven" into the cave, where Zoroark lost Grey by mumbling something about special rocks and devon corp. while wandering off into the dark reaches of the cave. Lost without flash, Grey couldn't keep pace with the false Steven and began to leave. This is when the Dark Prince intercepted. He revealed himself to Grey who did just as the Sableye wanted: Sent out Crawdaunt. He began trying to explain to crawdaunt that the power of Evil could be his, but as Prince rambled on getting distracted Lobmonster cracked him over the head. When he next awoke, Dark Prince was in the ownership of Grey. At first he was outraged beyond concept, but he soon realized that Grey's goal was DEFEATING OTHER POKEMON. How better to start world conquest then be with a trainer who sought victory? And since the Dark Prince has been with Grey.
Moves: Night Shade, Shadow Ball, Shadow Sneak, Pain Split, and Rock Tomb
Female Breloom: Agarica
A protector of the forest, Agarica was alarmed one day as Grey stumbled upon her training spot. Having recently captured Sableye, Grey used him for the fight. Agarica was no match for the immunity to fighting Dark Prince had and was quickly beaten, determined to become even stronger than Sableye she swore her alligance to him... Just as he wanted. She then demanded, as best as a pokemon can, that Grey capture her, and he did.
Moves: Sky Uppercut, Seed bomb, Stone Edge, Mach Punch and Thunder Punch
Male Togekiss: Agustus
Agustus is like a typical togekiss in its love for peace. One day while it flew over Hoenn it detected a great disturbance of balance. Flying in to investigate, he discovered Grey's Sableye practically overflowing with evil. It attempted to halt this darkness, but was unsuccessful and was defeated. Deciding the best course of action would be to follow with Grey to look for a method of stopping the "Dark Prince" he allowed himself to be captured.
Moves: Morning Sun, Aura Sphere, Air Slash, Flamethrower, and Yawn
Female Shandera: Sheila
Finding it a good night to haunt a shrine in Hoenn, Sheila was up late doing just that. When she heard someone coming to visit, she hid herself to provoke a surprise. From her hiding place she saw Grey and a Sableye. This was no ordinary sableye though, she saw just how powerful and handsome he was. Beliving in love at first sight she decided to watch Grey and this handsome Sableye as they sat in the shrine. Grey decided to let all of this pokemon out of their balls during this time, and Ferdinand ran off to be with his "family" in the nearby forest. During this time of absence, Agustus took the opportunity to attack the Sableye. Not bearing to see her love in danger, Sheila rushed to the Sableye's side. At this time Grey returned and saw the Shandera who he proceeded to try and catch. Believing it was fate that she and her perfect ghost/dark type would be caught by the same trainer she didn't mind being caught.
Moves: Flamethrower, Shadow Ball, Confuse Ray, Will-o-Wisp, and Energy Ball
Tailfnz the Sage
Honestly, I'd type this out again, but since I feel WAY too lazy to do so, I'm going to put up a link to this character's wiki page for now. This also contains Pokemon and backstories, etc. If you don't understand some of the stuff, check out the rest of the wiki.
I will, however, type out his Pokemon movesets.
Female Ninetales: Faith
Moves: Flamethrower, Extremespeed, Overheat, Nasty Plot, Energy Ball
Male Sceptile: Shepard
Moves: Leaf Blade, X-Scissor, Rock Slide, Earthquake, Swords Dance
Female Feebas: Veronica
Moves: Aqua Tail, Water Pulse, Recover, Ice Beam, Waterfall
Male Honchkrow: Michael

Should be right....
Appearance: Grey-blue eyes and spiked-yet-shortish brown hair. Wears a beige trenchcoat open to compensate for the cooler temps. Uses a prototype analyzer (reminiscent of scouters) on left side that displays health, speeds, and other things. Was given by Professor Lily upon obtaining 5 badges.
Bio: Born in Phenac City. One of the first few trainers to have passed through the finally completed Gym system in Orre. Had no Pokemon, save an Eevee, until entering the gym challenge. Age is about 17.
Personality: Silent unless needed with the exception of his Pokemon, though rarely loud enough to be heard by others. Enjoys exploration. Calm unless something is going wrong for the wrong reasons. Somewhat lazy in his travels.
One of the premium starters imported to Orre due to no starter trio being established yet. Likes to relax with Letum.
Moves: Flash Cannon, Giga Impact, Smooth Over, Boiling Water, Drill Peck
Traded for as a Whismur at the Realgam Tower. Kind of the Jack of the All (or most) Trades of the team. Enjoys disrupting anything.
Moves: Hyper Voice, Hyper Beam, Rest, Sleep Talk, Extrasensory
Found while exploring the ruins of the S.S. Libra. Loves speed and often goes on speed runs in the desert whenever the team rests.
Moves: Metal Sound, Screech, Gear Change, Double Team, Giga Impact
Received early in life from a litter from an odd man with a tattoo across his face. Only decided to join on the journey upon returning home just after getting Madidus. Evolved very shortly after. Defensive and conservative, she tries to stall somewhat to allow her attacks to take down the opponent.
Moves: Swagger, Psych Up, Faint Attack, Last Resort, Moonlight
Encountered just north of Agate Village. Uses odd tactics sometimes. Bored a lot.
Moves: Gyro Ball, Protect, Earthquake, Insect Opposition, Explosion
Found in later travels, exploring the area around Memorial Pillar. Hits hard in battle. Mischievous, but makes sure not to defy Letum out of respect.
Moves: Rain Dance, Slime Wave, Wring Out, Evil Eye, Surf
Appearance: Tall and thin, but with developed muscles. Normal attire is T-Shirt and Cargo Shorts, Ankle length socks and tennis shoes, all of which is white. Short Brown hair, kept unkempt. Age is about 22
Bio: Born and Raised in Hoenn until moving to Sinnoh at about 17, Crosis had started the Hoenn gym challenge but was forced to abandon it when his family moved, has recently defeated Volkner and the rest of the Sinnoh gym leaders.
Personality: Confident and Assured, training in two regions has given Crosis the background required for a champion, he has really clicked with his team.
Given to Crosis by Steven Stone after defeating Tate and Liza, Exx was quickly raised during the Sinnoh gym challenge, where he won key matches against Roark and Candice. Exx is a physical powerhouse and has never gone down easily and shows Crosis' willpower in his endurance.
Moves: Meteor Mash, Bullet Punch, Psychic, Gravity, Earthquake
Caught as a Bagon inside of a hidden cave in Meteor Falls Blackwing grew with Crosis as they battled against the Dragon trainers there, and finally evolving while Crosis battled with Crasher Wake. Blackwing has won more battles for Crosis than he can count and the two are good friends with Crosis always relying on him to get something done in a fight.
Moves: Draco Meteor, Outrage, Earthquake, Fire Blast, Roost
An early capture, Gere was deemed mostly useless until he evolved fighting Flannery, since then Gere has battled with a chip on his shoulder as though he needs to prove himself to Crosis for the time he spent useless. Gere uses him immense bulk on foes close to him, and once he gets them nearby, they often faint before escaping his jaws.
Moves: Waterfall, Bounce, Ice Fang, Substitute, Iron Head
Ace has been with Crosis since she was just a Growlithe puppy, Crosis nutured their friendship and protected her then, and once Ace outgrew Crosis she has done the same for him. Unusually fast for an Arcanine Ace's wrath is terrible on Crosis' foes. Ace is a more mixed attacker, she can sit in the distance picking foes off with ranged attacks or using her Physical strength to assault them.
Moves: Reversal, Flare Blitz, Overheat, Extreme Speed, Dragon Pulse
Kip was Crosis' choice when offered to him as he began the Hoenn gym challenge. Kip has been a steadfast friend since the two joined forces, and has never let Crosis down. He is always relying on Kip's immense bulk and endurance to tank the foes, and Kip has always done just that. Volkner was at a loss against Kip and his strong Earthquakes brought the Electric leader down quickly.
Moves: Hydro Cannon, Superpower, Earthquake, Surf, Ice beam
Chomps was the last pokemon added to Crosis' team, having been recently caught in the Sinnoh region, and since he joined with Crosis, he has been invaluble. His devastatingly fast attacks and enormous power has proven time and again why Crosis has chosen right to call him an ally. Chomps single handedly struck down Sinnoh's Pokemon League Champion and the duo hasn't looked back.
Moves: Dragon Rush, Stone Edge, Fire Fang, Protect, Dragon Claw

Appearance: Dark green eyes, dark blond hair tied up in a lazy ponytail, about 5' 4''. Wearing bell bottom jeans with holes in the knees, and a blue, slightly over sized sweatshirt.
Bio: Bright, excitable, and enthusiastic. After going through trial after trial on the road, her and her pokemon are very close knit. Optimistic when the battle was lost, enthusiastic when the battle went well, and during the battle competitive.
Caught in the beginning of her travels, Emily was excited to have a fire pokemon. She had a Firestone handy, but she wasn't going to use it until James was trained completely. Training was difficult, slow, and frusterating, but slowly and surely, James built up strength, until she was finally ready to evolve her.
Moves: Extrasensory, Fireblast, Quick Attack, Attract, and Sunny Day
After romping through the mines for a few hours, it seemed like Emily wasn't going to find anything. Disgruntled, she swung her pick ax one last time, and to her surprise and excitement, a Skull Fossil was found. She eagerly ran to the Mining Museum and resurrected her Cranidos, training vigorously with it, teaching it special TM moves, until she evolved.
Moves: Anceint Power, Zen Headbutt, Head Smash, Earthquake, and Brick Break
After going through the Safari Zone multiple times with no luck, she had finally caught a Yanma. She decided to try her hand at breeding, and hatched Ambi from an egg. She raised it until it evolved.
Moves: Bug Bite, Air Slash, Bug Buzz, Ancient Power, and Shadow Ball
Emily encountered Enid in the first 2 minutes of her first cave. Excited to see the pokemon, she caught it without a problem, almost like it wanted to be caught. It fought the other Zubat in the cave fiercely, like it had a bone to pick with them. At the end of the cave, Enid was exhausted, and learned that it could depend on Emily as she did with it. A great friendship evolved during the trials of adventuring, and the two became fast friends.
Moves: Cross Poison, Haze, Wing Attack, Poison Fang, and Bite
After hatching Ambi, Emily decided to go back to the Safari Zone. After a few hours of mindlessly wandering, she found a male tangela. Excited at seeing a catch able male pokemon finally, Emily lunged at it. It evolved very fast, and acted as a father figure to the other pokemon in Emily's party.
Moves: Powerwhip, Sleep powder, Ancient Power, Solar Beam, and Sunny Day
Emily was quietly on her way to the next city, when she was ambushed by a psycho, with a limping Pichu following him. Not one to run away, she was open minded to what he wanted. He explained to her that he had stole someone's Porygon, after they had asked to trade so it would evolve. He wanted to evolve it again, to its final evolution, so he needed to find someone he could trust to trade it back to him. When Emily asked about the Pichu, the man told her he had caught it, wanting to evolve it into a Raichu, but it was too weak to be bothered with, so he was just going to wait until it ran away from him from abuse. After taking that information in, Emily agreed to evolve the Porygon. Once she had it in her own ball, she ran off as fast as she could. The man, furious, chased after her, and once he caught up, they battled for the Porygon-Z. Emily won easily, and the Porygon had thankful tears in its eyes.
Moves: Zap Cannon, Discharge, Psybeam, Agility, and Psycho Shock
Name: Judge Chester McGarren
Appearance: A round man, in every aspect of the word. Round body, oval head, round mildly reddened nose, round ears. He has a black, comb shaped, mustache. He is Balding but his remaining black hair forms an old man halo around his head. He wears a gold sequined jacket with squared shoulders. Under the jacket he wears a magenta shirt with deep sky blue pants. He wears black dress shoes and has a gold sequined top hat with a magenta ribbon around the base to match his outfit. He carries a gold colored cane, however this is not sequined.
Back story: Chester has seen the world. Being a middle aged man and starting young, he had a chance at every region. Having more badges than most people have lived years and more awards for contests and combat tournaments than most can count, he decided that it was time to back up. Now he has moved back to teaching trainers young and old, experienced and new what he knows. He doesn't feel he knows much, but others seem to glean vast amounts of information from his poorly constructed pieces of advice.
Pokemon: Many. he can be seen accompanied by many Pokemon, however, he shows favoritism to a Blaziken, Roselia, and Haunter that are almost always seen with him.
Personality and Appearance: Judgebot is obviously a robot. He talks in a metallic voice and moves in clear jerky motions. An upgraded model from most he has been equipped with legs, as apposed to his comrades that are rooted to the spot besides designated battle areas.
Back story: After Chester became a judge he decided to buy a judgebot with his extensive wealth and have legs added. This was a harder process than you'd think, due to the lack of programming for walking. After Judgebot showed his trooper like nature during his rehabilitation he was taught how to properly judge matches for Chester and how to rule like him in most matters. When Chester's job calls for more than he can provide by himself, he calls on Judgebot for help.
