OMG, looking into this, I am heavily confused. I had to do a lot of reading, but here is the gist of what I've learned guys... it stems from 19th century novels which we'll call the "Famille" (family) series. For some reason this became "Nobody's" and stuff, lol.
1878, Frenchman Hector Malot produces "
Sans Famille" (which means "without family") and was later retitled "Nobody's Boy". For ease of reference we with call this "Sans" (without)
1893, Frenchman Hector Malot writes "En Famille" (which means "amongst family") which is retitled
Nobody's Girl. For ease of reference we will call this "En" (with).
1977:
Nobody's Boy, Remi is produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha, now TMS entertainment. 51 episodes, not actually WMT but linked for reasons we will learn...This work is based on the first work by Malot, "Sans".
1978 WMT produces
Story of Perrine based on Malot's work 2nd work, "En". 53 episodes.
1996 WMT produces
Remi, Nobody's Girl which is based on Malot's 1st work, "Sans", except unlike Nobody's Boy, this reinvents the main character as a girl.
So yeah, I don't know if there's anything besides that, but the process of writing it out sorta helps sort it out on my head. I hope this helps anyone else, please inform me if I'm mixed up about it. My guess is there are other interesting stories by Malot and I don't know if there are other works based on his stuff.
So I totally understand the source of HyugaHinata's confusion. Somebody retitled the story Perrine is based on into 'Nobody's Girl' likely to capitalize on the success of Nobody's Boy. The problem is when WMT did 'Nobody's Girl' this was not based on Perrine, but rather a reinvention of Nobody's Boy. So we have 2 "Nobody's Girl" stories which are based on different french works.
