There was supposed to be a prequel to this series, but I've not heard anything about it since the series ended. However, a sequel is allegedly in the works...

In any case, lets talk about the ending for what it is. I found it neither deserving nor necessary, especially with all the build-up from previous episodes. Does Shu need to be crippled and blinded? It seemed executive meddling was strong with this one. Someone up there was obviously bitter about life...

Imo, this is not a bittersweet ending, its a terrible end!

I found the whole second half of the series to be dull and annoying.

The first half felt like watching Sailor Moon. You had one duty per episode and once it was completed, that was the end of the episode, all for it never to amount to anything until the big boss just magically decides to appear.

The second half felt like overkill of various characters going bye-bye and them building up for Shu to die only to have Inori go in place of him. If they thought that would seem romantic, I didn't feel it quite so well... They rarely showed emotions towards each other. Ironically, Shu worrying over Inori and the kiss were the only "romantic" pieces to it. Compare that to my favorite pairing, I dare you; but it was worse than watching a shounen-ai.

I personally think the whole Mana bit was overrated and horrible. Bringing her back in the second half was a bad idea. The whole series was too religious for a lot of people to understand already, then they insert the crap about an Eve.

I really felt they built Shu up to be crippled and blind. They literally abused his character throughout the whole series anyway, giving him the most wish-washy roles imaginable... I saw it coming, in a way. Him living was something I had not seen coming.

BTW, what the hell is this? They're making a sequel? I think the apocalypse is coming...

Well, I was expecting Shu to do the heroes journey,so I was very negatively surprised when they chose to go this horrible route of tearing *everyone* down. Not a good series.

I watched that series for the animation, which was awesome, and the music. That's probably why I wasn't so disappointed.

Also, there's a prequel VN (Lost Christmas) coming. Never heard anything about a sequel...

At the risk of inviting a "who's to blame for Guilty Crown sucking" debate, I was very interested in the show because Yoshino was one of the lead writers for it. Guilty Crown is no Mai-HiME or Macross Frontier however. Granted, both Mai-HiME and Macross Frontier were shows that grew on me a lot with rewatching. But I at least enjoyed those series the first time around, and I ended up wanting to rewatch them later on. I don't feel particularly inclined to try to rewatch Guilty Crown. I'd much rather rewatch Mai-HiME again.

As a note, while I felt the first half of Guilty Crown was kind of iffy it also had its share of good points. And I actually had hope for the series for the first few episodes of the second half, where it looked like things might get taken in a very interesting direction. Then after Gai reappeared the show seemed to become pretty much unsalvageable. It would have needed one heck of a great ending to make up for that in my mind, and it didn't have an ending of that calibre.

In terms of general flaws, GC's characterization seemed somewhat inconsistent and some of the developments that occurred seemed pretty ridiculous and/or out of the blue.

Reminded me of Code Geass season II.

You know what trolling is to me? Its when a matter is expected to conclude a certain way, only that it didn't, despite tuning the audiences' belief in a specific manner. Rarely can anyone masterfully pull one off successfully. Not everything can be The Sixth Sense, after all.

Guilty Crown led the audiences to believe that something good would come out of Shu's efforts in the last few episodes, only that he ended up becoming worse than he first started. It makes me wonder just why the creators of this series want to damn his life so?

OTOH, I agree about its inconsistency. It reminded me of Code Geass, where the Black Knights proved to be idiots too much too quickly. How am I to be convinced when they were swayed in just ONE episode?

Then there is that Gai guy (no pun intended... ... ok maybe just a little). It was revealed that he was not corrupted psychologically, but suddenly did a face/heel turn? Erm...

One of my friends told me that Code Geass R2 was pretty much completely rewritten after a change in timeslot. Not sure if it's true. I kind of prefer Code Geass to Guilty Crown though -it may have been a disaster in some respect, but it was at least highly entertaining.

Also, I'm not sure how involved Yoshino actually was with Geass R2. He's credited as Series Composition Assistant, but he doesn't have any screenplay credits, and the series was running at the same time as Frontier, which he was obviously heavily involved in. Granted, he didn't have screenplay credit for very many episodes of the first season of Geass either.
