Oh shit, I just finished episode 25...

LOL, could it be, that Fudo Zen is Apollon?!

Kawamori must enjoy being Fudo in the series.

Like I said before: He enjoys masterful storytelling. He even does it at his own series' expenses.

Yeah, but while I was not particularly fazed by the infamous 'flying-dog incident', he certainly surprised me plenty here.

The man is a master... yep, indeed. I don't know what made him to be this way, he used to be far more straightforward.

At this point, regarding the preview for the next episode, I doubt that endgame is Amata/Mikono, or even Kagura/Mikono. Based on the preview that says "let's all become one" (thank you, Mikono, for a really stupid line), I expect a "no one gets anyone and they all die together" ending. It would seem that Kawamori is in the mood for bittersweet endings lately (this will be his second in a row). I hope AKB0048 ends well.

I expect a movie or OVA after the final episode airs. So far, I have a sinking feeling that this is Frontier again. Though I didn't watch the series when it aired, five minutes were cut out of the original air and only added to the BD. I feel that this will end up the same. Unless they manage to pull it all off (which is highly, HIGHLY unlikely), then I image the final episode will be a worse troll.

I agree with many upon many people that this is a plot hole turned into poor entertainment. The whole show is a mockery of anime so far.

BTW, Andy and Mix's reunion... not feeling the love here. I feel the friendship bond and wanting to save your comrade but... love? I don't really feel it. Amata and Kagura didn't help. Being abandoned his whole life and just finding his mother again and his father for the first time only for them both to be mistakenly killed by his other half, Amata comes up exactly as Kagura suggests: a weakling. He has literally fallen down a hole he can't crawl out of. Getting mad at Kagura doesn't help. They are essential the same person. Ironically, Kagura never knew Izumo was his father, and is actually shocked to learn the news (so he does feel after all), however, he shows little interest in it. But I have to feel sorry for Kagura in the flashbacks, having been tormented by Mykage. I can now understand why Kagura desires freedom and Mikono so much after being locked up by the psychotic dark angel this whole time. But I still think his lack of desire for a real family drives a wedge there. If Apollo retained human emotions, Kagura does not show any. I hope this is all explained next week.

As for Apollonius being Fudo: I already had my suspicions of the dude in the OS. I knew there was something suspicious and special about him. He knew everything about Aquarion, even how to summon it, and predicted almost every path without seeing the future. It was self-explanatory though I never would've guessed him being the angel we all searched for in the OS (that we thought was Apollo). They trolled us big time with that.

And Mykage gives it all away by humming Sousei no Aquarion twice in the episode. Apparently, the song was for Apollonius and Toma all along... not Celienne.

This series is one big troll that I wish wouldn't have been made. The OS was something to cherish as it was despite that it wasn't popular. They've successfully, with the first two episodes, made it popular. However, as the series progressed, I noticed that not many viewers are watching the show in Japan anymore. It is no longer very popular. It has a worse turn-out than the original. I doubt there will be anymore fans of Aquarion after this.

I find Legend of Korra to be more interesting and entertaining as of late, even though I've always had a dislike for the Avatar series. Perhaps it is because there is a female lead now. So far, she seems tsundere but not completely assertive or abrasive. I'm shipping Mako with Korra for now based on their progression. It has to be the first series on Nick that I've actually gotten truly into so far.

The ending looks it will be similar to the first one's ending. By chance that happens, I actually wouldn't be surprised. That being said, all the series' pairings were done poorly, due to the overall lack of substance.

What does Amata/Kagura see in Mikono other than pre-destined fate will probably never be explained. This is not helped by Andy's love for Mix and his motivation to rescue her, which boarders on the childish.

However, there is one thing I am looking for: Fudo laying the smack down! Thats right, there is always that hope where Fudo will give Mikage/Toma a bitchslap. Hell, what about the 'president', who has been with Fudo for thousands of years. I think she is the real Silvie all along!

Man... I kinda think Mikage has a point somewhere in there. I mean, of course his revenge is totally overblown, as you'd expect from an actual angel, but Apollonius/Fudo is kind of douche, really. And not only to Mikage, but to Silvia, too.

I hope Zessica comes out of this okay, because she is the one who least deserves a bad ending ( counting out Yunoha/Jin, so they already got theirs. :-/ ).

Evol has rarely struck me as a particularly great show. I didn't invest a lot into it emotionally, so I'm not too bothered by its problems. These last couple episodes have at least done more for me than some of the ones that came a little before them. If you're not going to have particularly good characters and such, at least be entertaining! I can forgive a lot if a show manages to be highly entertaining! (Aquarion Evol's record when it comes to entertainment value has been somewhat mixed for me.)

Anyone wonder if maybe the finale will finally give us some idea of Zessica's background? Why the hell was she such a good vessel for Mikage anyway?

On another note, does anyone feel that Mari Okada is better suited to writing relatively down to earth/slice of life stuff than sci-fi/action type series?

I know I want Zessica to get free and have some measure of happyness at the end. But...

... can you imagine the fan reaction if she didn't and either simply died with Mikage, no further mention of her... or if Mikage won and simply absorbed her? Geeze. ^^

At least even Yot couldn't bluster anymore that Kawamori really isn't a troll.

I'm actually starting to wonder if Zessica is the reincarnation of the light side of Toma. Maybe her connection with Amata now has made that side of Toma fall in love with Pollon. It would make sense. Also, it would be less of a troll than the whole series is right now. But we are lost at who she is so far...

How about "Just Zessica"? After all, lots of characters seem to have had no connection at all to the last incarnation from 12.000 years ago.

Seriously, leave the poor lass alone. She suffered enough.

I don't know. We don't exactly have any clues to why Zessica would go to such lengths for Amata, a boy who doesn't really notice she exists. Besides Toma, who else has been so obsessed with chasing down another though destiny is against them?

Actually, I disagree with you, magnus, quite a few of the characters are related to the past incarnations, just not the original three (or four if we count the hound). They have connections to those of Sousei no Aquarion. They had a diagram in the EVOL forums that depicted all of the characters past incarnations. That is why my theory is not so farfetched.

I'm at work right now, so I can't look at graphics. I'll check it out in the next 24 hours.

But I don't think that it changes much, IMHO. Any connection to past incarnations is very, very tangential, outside of the main three, Fudo and Crea.

Yeah, this reincarnation theory holds little water. Even if it is proven true, so what? Why should I care beyond the major characters?

Well, they refrained from pulling the "Complete Troll Ending". Pretty standard stuff, with Shrades ghost returning, Amata and Mikono ending up together and alive and so on. Good stuff, actually. Much better than leaving things unresolved.

That being said, they still dropped the ball on a few things. What happened to Cayennes Prophecy of Despair? That was totally not even touched. Kaguras and Amatas rivalry? Poof, Kagura just totally gave up. Well, maybe he recognized how superior Zessica would be for him than wet blanket Mikono, there are at least a few hints that they might end up together. ^^

But in an anime where it essentially is all is about love, the romance aspect was still pretty underdeveloped. Amata finally gave some good reasons why he loved Mikono last and this episode, but that should have come at the middle point of the series not at the tail end. And Mikono was horribly, utterly passive on the romance front, just a damsel in constant distress, with some bishis to fight over her. She didn't decide at all with whom she wanted to be, Amata just won her like a price. Not good feminism from Kawamori, who normally is very decent on that front. Frontier really was much, much better in the romance aspect.

All in all, although I had big hopes for this series at the beginning of the season, but it turned out pretty mediocre, due to lack of consequence for actions and missing deeper characterizations. Rinne no Lagrange won over a Kawamori mecha show, that is somewhat shameful. Not that I want to impugn Lagrange, it is an awesome show. But Kawamori should do better.

In many ways, I disagree with you magnus: it was a large, overbearing troll that might or might not get a movie/OVA, as there are previews of this possibility.

For one thing, the whole romance was a complete waste of air time. I started to wave a flag for Amata and Mikono but gave up halfway through. If I thought Macross Frontier was annoying with Alto and Sheryl being forced together, this topped it. Here's an example: Amata and Mikono spend a total of three to five episodes absolutely apart. Yet they still so-called love each other. Well, in that case, Alto should've fallen three times as in love with Ranka than he did (series-wise). Do you get my case and point here? The romance just... /starts screaming uncontrollably/ I hated it.

The only highlight of the episode for me was Kagura becoming a good guy in the end. He actually changed sides. I think he had a revelation when Zessica begged him to kill her but I could be wrong there... Up until then, he'd asked everyone the question. When he's finally allowed... he can't. However, the complete personality turn over... that lost me. I like the aloof boy in the beginning. Now he's all cozy with the group...

What to say about Zessica? Not much left. She was once again used as a tool in the finale and pushed more into realizing her feelings are not returned. I stopped feeling sorry for her. Kawamori is doing the same for Zessica as he did with Ranka: treating her like a plot device. The sad part about that is that Sheryl became the plot device in the movies. He seems to like making the females suffer, now try doing some boys, man! Let some boys suffer for once! His most recent series are only about girls doing the suffering and being used as plot devices! Please do boys next time, jerk!

All that's left to say is that I liked the salute to the original series... had I not learned that Apollo was Pollon all along. That killed my drive for this series. All the freaking flashbacks were annoying. And, for a show all about love transcending time, we end it with a big bang: Amata shooting a heart through Solar Aquarion and knocking Mykage out then Aquarion LOVE appears where Amata and Mikono confess true love (aishiteru) and kiss, creating tears from LOVE that heals both the planets. Everything goes back to normal like nothing ever happened. Kagura is kicking it back with the crew like he wasn't an enemy before and has no consequences. Then, out of the blue, Amata returns with Mikono.

Yep, I've been trolled.

I bet Japan is taking back all they ever said about Frontier being a troll. This is the extreme troll. Let's hope it doesn't get a movie/OVA.

Oh, I get where you are coming from in regards to the romance in this series being flat. I actually thought I had made that clear. It's extremely shallow and the reasons given for the romances are extremely shallow as well. That distinguishes it a lot from Macross Frontier where you could follow those people falling in love and recognize why it happened.

Of course I am not going to agree on Sheryl and Alto being forced together. But I think we've been through that discussion enough to not repeat it here.

Kagura going all mellow of a sudden is another point which came out of nowhere with no good explanation for it. Well, I guess he might have recognized Zessica for a much superior mate than whiny Mikono. But still, man, what a way to wuss out.
