"The Loops Before" - Fanfic Challenge!!!
"The Loops Before" - Fanfic Challenge!!!
Here's an idea I had of how we can make great use of this new Social Group and also add to the number of fanfics for poor Dezo to read!
I have a fanfic challenge for all of you! (Including myself
This will be a collaborative fanfic written about "The Loops Before"--the series of 5 Loops
the ones we see in the GrimGrimoire game!
EDITED 3/29/2011 for a new set of rules and guidelines!
The way this Fic Challenge will work:
The fanfic will be written by 5 different authors, and each author will be responsible for writing the same day in all the Loops--so for example, if I am writing Day 1, I will be writing Day 1 in Loops I, II, III, IV, V and so on
We will be writing
at least 6 Loops
, since Dezo pointed out the Room!Lillet told the Game!Lillet that she was “early", so we need more than 5.
Here are the guidelines/rules for each Day!
1. Each Day chapter can be no longer than 2500 words maximum.
2. Lillet has all her memories of the previous days and loops, just like in the game. So your day must take into account what has happened in the previous chapters (although of course your Lillet is free to ignore what had happened and take a different course of action ^^)
3. We'll try to keep this as Original Flavour as possible, as if this really
have happened before the events of the game
4. Your Day section will be due within 2 weeks of the previous one (or we can extend it, whatever is needed--just to keep the momentum going, I want to set a deadline
5. POV can be anything you want—we’re all good enough authors to make it clear what’s going on, so I’m not worried
6. We shall…ignore the things discussed in Loop V/5-3 “Outside the Loops of Time” about dropping grimoires and multiple Lillets
, at least for the first 5 Loops—maybe we can revist this issue for the sixth Loop, but until then just for clarity and simplicity we’ll just treat the Time Loops like the ones that happened in the game (so Lillet goes directly from Day 5 to Night Before).
7. And finally...Lillet can't
(as in she can't "break the Philisopher’s Stone and get outside the loops of time"-- Lillet can beat up Grimlet and Calvaros if you want!
, since she has to ultimately lose these series of Loops in order to begin the game where it starts...
So, what does everyone think?
Interested in playing?
The Night Before = Loop 1 (spawn), Loop 2 (dc), Loop 3 (Dezo), Loop 4 (Fuyu), Loop 5 (Laith)
Day 1 = spawnofthejudge
Day 2 = deathcurse
Day 3 = DezoPenguin
Day 4 = Fuyu no Sora
Day 5 = Laith
Please feel free to suggest any other guidelines or ideas before we start!
Fuyu no Sora
I'm very interested in playing this game (despite the fact that I suck as a writer.
So, we should establish some things first.
First of all, does Lillet have the memories of
other loops before the ones we'd be writing, or does she think it's her first day at the academy, like in the beginning of the game?
Secondly, does she have any Grimoires with her?
Thirdly... are we allowed to speculate and theorize while we write?
That's my two cents for now! Great idea, dc!
No, Lillet has no memory of the previous loops--just like how in the game, she genuinely thought it was her first day arriving at the Tower
. So yes, it'll be just like the beginning of the game
No, she has no Grimoires, since it's like how after 5 Loops if Lillet fails to break the Stone she'll go back in time again with no memory of the Loops, so starting afresh.
Speculate and theorize away!
As long as it fits with the fic's premise of being "The Loops Before" the game's loops, anything goes! (In my opinion, at least--not sure about what other people think?)
I'm game, should be helpful for the whole writing thingy.
Also, Fuyu's point, she should think it is her first day and then the loop starts. We would be basically writing the life of the Lillet that Lillet finds in the Philosopher stone chamber, methinks.
She starts with the grand total of 0. Yes.
And I assume we can speculate, theorize and (maybe) ask for help while we write. Yep yep.
Also I want the 5th day shenanigans, because bad endings ufufufu~... nah just joking, we can decide who writes what later.
LOL, ninja'd you, eh?
Oooh, that's interesting--for us to be writing the life of the Lillet that Lillet finds in the PS chamber??
LOL, we'll keep in mind that you have first dibs on Day 5
. Whoo hoo, bad endings!!
2500 words every up-to-10 weeks? That's a nicely-spaced challenge, and the word length is about average for one of my one-shots. It's definitely important to make the burden to have a challenge idea work! So count me in, too!
(Dibs on Day 3, though...that means I get other people's work to work off of but don't have to come up with the conclusions!
Heck, yes, we absolutely should be allowed to theorize! That's one of the fun parts of fanfiction!
You and your Bad Ends!
Count me in!!!
Two things though: First, it's possible for Lillet to WIN, she just can't destroy the Stone when she gets there, switching places/starting over? (In which case, it's not the five loops before, it's the last set of loops where she made it to the Stone) The more I think about it, the more I think the previous five loops (where she could not have gotten to the Stone), are the ones we should do.
Secondly, there's no reason we HAVE to only do five loops, though that would be a natural ending point.
Thirdly (Sh, yes I know I said two), we'll need a sixth author to do The Night Before.
Yeah, I wanted to make sure that the chapters weren't too long, so that we can keep the ball rolling easily
. I originally had 2000 words as the maximum but when I checked the length of that it seemed a little short to cap off, so I lengthened the maximum to 2500.
Day 3 = Dezo, noted!
In which case, I want to put myself down for Day 2: I don't have to start the new thread of action that way!
Yay, a fifth author!
Hm, I hope I understand what you're saying....This is going to be the loops just before the game starts, so Loop V Day 5 should end with maybe an epilogue that ties it into The Night Before of the game? I wasn't sure if Lillet should actually reach the PS room at the end of our Loops--she could, since the Room!Lillet had said to Lillet how she and a third Lillet had tried to break out but failed, and so the Room!Lillet had gotten stuck there......But if the Lillet we're writing is the Room!Lillet, then she wouldn't have had a chance to grow old in between our story and the game's start?
Yes, no reason to do exactly 5 Loops, but don't we need to do multiples of 5 since that's how long Lillet retains her memories before they get wiped again? =O
Ah, I didn't think of that! So we have space for one more!
EDIT: I had updated the first post with people who had put down dibs for certain Days, and also elaborated on what I meant by "Lillet can't win"--as in, she can't break through the loops, but she can beat down on Calvaros and Grimlet just fine
"Yes, no reason to do exactly 5 Loops, but don't we need to do multiples of 5 since that's how long Lillet retains her memories before they get wiped again? =O"
No, that's not a requirement; it's her ability to get to the room with the stone. If she doesn't get to that room in time, she loops back with memories attached. If she does, one of three things can happen.
Loop back without memories
- elder!Lillet says that dropping the Grimoire when time returns would cause this. (I haven't figured out what that means)
Trapped; it all starts over
- elder!Lillet disappears (ostensibly to the afterlife? Or Nothingness? There's a ficbunny in that...), younger!Lillet is trapped in elder!Lillet's place and a new Lillet enters the time stream to make up for the inconsistency, and otherwise it's like a loop back without memories. This occurs if the Grimoire is not dropped, AND if the Stone is not destroyed.
. Game ending as seen. Grimoire not dropped, Stone destroyed.
Honestly, I think it's likely that Five Loops is the
memory trip Lillet ever takes.
: Since elder!Lillet/Room!Lillet has seen many younger!Lillet's it's clear she's not the "Loops immediately before"!Lillet, so she's not who I was thinking of when I read your challenge.
: I want one of our loops to end in victory right before the bell and have Lillet be extremely upset about winning, then having to do it again.
Fuyu no Sora
Oooh, alright, then! I'm nabbing Day 4, then.
What's up with you being all happy about Bad Endings?
And besides, Room!Lillet mentions that Game!Lillet has done the loops many many times before (we don't know how long, but still), so it's entirely possible that Game!Lillet only remembers five of them, but she personally has traveled more than that... long enough for Room!Lillet to age up.
Not necessarily. There's a fourth option that is mentioned by the Lillet trapped in the room: If the game Lillet doesn't shatter the stone before the bells ring, she'll be transported back five days. She doesn't say that this will necessarily erase her memories; Lillet doesn't
to drop the Grimoire.
Given that I/(we? Does anyone?) don't know what dropping the Grimoire means beyond the obvious slippery hands meaning, we can't be a hundred percent sure what the exact requirements are for each of the outcomes.
I will allow that it's certainly possible for there to be a situation where Lillet arrives at the room and returns to the beginning with her memories, but given that elder!Lillet mentions that she's given the explanation about her existence and the stone many times, I don't think that result is common.
uh... Pageclaim! For! Grandma!Lillet!
"I want one of our loops to end in victory right before the bell and have Lillet be extremely upset about winning, then having to do it again."
Loop 4 ends like this. Loop 5 ends with her ditching the whole attack on the school and trying to find the stone.
"What's up with you being all happy about Bad Endings?"
Bad endings are best endings~
"Given that I/(we? Does anyone?) don't know what dropping the Grimoire means"
Doesn't that reffers to the Legeme-something (swear to whatever deity, my memory sucks)? After she obtains it of course. Then again that wouldn't make much sense so dunno.
Lemegeton. The Lesser Key of Solomon.
You're right; that doesn't make much sense... but it's possible. It's the only Grimoire that is mentioned in game that Lillet never draws a rune from in gameplay (I think she uses it once to summon Grimlet in Loop V). So maybe it can react with the PS to create a timewormy thing. Or something like that.
Fuyu no Sora
But the Grimoire that Lillet isn't supposed to drop is one that she has had with her since the beginning of the game. It doesn't make sense for it to be the Lemegeton.
"(I think she uses it once to summon Grimlet in Loop V)."
She uses it in Loop IV and V. It's the same Rune both times and it is, indeed, to summon Grimlet.
Bad endings are the best kinds of endings, huh?
Okay, in general, it seems uncertain what dropping Grimoires does--can we just go with "Lillet will definitely travel back in the loops regardless", since I had no clue about all this Grimoire business until just now O_O, and I wouldn't know what to do with it if I had to write about it....
And Fuyu’s right, the Room!Lillet probably isn’t the Lillet we’d be writing about in this “5 Loops before the game” story.
LOL, Bad Endings are fun!
You can be more creative with bad endings than good ones
So clearly I'm an opener. But am I to do the Night Before or Day 1? It all depends on if we get another author, and what they prefer. If we don't... well, if there's any combination that makes sense, it's either Day 5/NB or NB/Day 1.
Hm...I think that maybe NB/Day 1 makes more sense, since NB would lead into Day 1 and it only seems fair to let the Day 1 person choose what direction to take things instead of being limited by the Day 5/NB way.
If we are going to be making 5 loops, there is only 5 authors and there is 5 NB, we can do 1 each.
That is to say the day 1 author writes the first NB, the day 2 author writes the next one and so on. Seems more "fair" to me.
Oh, I like that idea... and we can always just keep rotating that job if we go beyond or whatever.
Nice idea Laith!
We could go in order even, so Day 1 person writes the first NB, and Day 2 the second NB, etc...
Something else I'm thinking about, do we want to share rough ideas of the overarching story outline, or should it be a surprise and take-it-where-it-goes kind of a story?
