As some of you may know, I’m a
huge
fan of the first anime series that Hiroyuki Yoshino (the lead writer for Macross Frontier) was a lead writer for. I’ve brought it up a few times in discussions regarding other series he’s written. Because of all this I would really like to see what some of the other Frontier fans on this sub forum would make of it. Many of you probably aren’t too eager to just plow through an entire twenty six episode anime series though. On the other hand, I suspect a lot of you might be able to fit an extra episode of anime into your weekly viewing schedules. So I thought I’d invite you to watch and discuss the series with me at a rate of one episode a week, starting at the beginning of the Summer 2012 anime season.
Are any of you interested in participating in something like this? Here is a brief summary of the show’s story:
The main character in Mai-HiME is Mai Tokiha, a first year high school student who has received a scholarship to attend a prestigious private academy on the Island of Fuka along with her sickly younger brother Takumi. While en route to the island, she helps save an unconscious girl clutching a large sword and witnesses a highly destructive battle between the girl she saved and a newcomer, both of whom utilize strange powers. After arriving on Fuka Mai begins to learn the truth behind why she was brought to the island –she is a HiME, one of twelve girls who have been granted magical powers. Supposedly the HiME have been gathered on Fuka to fight monsters from another world called Orphans, but as one of the less trusting HiME opines, the people gathering the HiME probably have some other purpose for them. Unhappy with the situation but wanting to protect her brother and her new friends, Mai reluctantly takes up the fight. But does she really know what she’s getting herself into? And does she –or any of the other HiME- truly understand what it means when they’re told they must risk the one thing that’s most important to them?
As a note, this show is
not
a typical cutesy magical girl show, nor is it some sort of massive fan service fest (aside from the DVD specials and some prototype trailers that were produced before the series aired). If you like very dramatic, character driven series and don't mind watching a show that likes to play around with anime conventions then I strongly recommend you check this show out.
If any of you have any questions about the show that may help you decide whether you want to participate in this or not feel free to ask. Please be advised that the Wikipedia summary for this series contains *
major
* spoilers. I do not recommend using it.

I don't mind watching Hime again actually. The BD version is a blast. Though I would be more or less inconsistent with the watching due to RL issues.
I need to refresh my memory about the show, anyway.

Welcome aboard! Got any words of endorsement that might help encourage some of the other members? (Preferably without scaring off the rest.
) This is a darn hard series to market to people without revealing major spoilers.

So I've settled on Saturday, June 30 as the start date for this (sort of -due to my late time zone I'll actually be kicking things off before I go to bed on Friday). Not many people have signed up yet but I think I'm going to just start the ball rolling and see who joins in. As a note, expressing interest in this
doesn't
commit you to watching the whole thing. You
can
drop it if you don't like it or get too busy. Granted I think most of you already know that, but I wanted to point it out.
