Broken CameraPhone event thread
Digital Photographers United - Broken CameraPhone
The name of the event is a bit of a word play, since the idea is an adaptation of the kid's game broken telephone. However the idea is not to replicate the previous image rather than taking one or more details from it and replicating them in your submission.
About the event:
Event is run blind so each participant will only receive the preceding entry. So you won't know what kind of pictures have been posted before.
The event will run for as long it takes to gather at least 10 pictures.
If there's still interest in participating in the event once the goal of 10 entries have been reached the event will be extended.
When the event is over the pictures will be put up to display in a thread in Fan Creations subforum.
Each participant is given
two full calendar weeks
(su-sat) to post a picture. If you finish your entry sooner you can submit it right away. The next participant will be given the remainder of your two weeks and the two of his/her own to submit an entry.
Each picture must have one or more details similar to the previous image. They don't have to be obvious but apparent. They don't necessarily have to be objects if there are for example signs etc. in the previous picture you can use the text in them as well.
Some elements are excluded from shared details such as sky, sun, moon, sea etc. extremely common subjects. Submitting a picture which is completely unrelated to the previous entry and stating that there's sky in both of them soft of defies the point. I'll check the entries before sending them forward to the next participant.
Don't post your entry here, details on submitting your entry below.
You can participate only once.
If you fail to submit your entry in time you're excluded from the event.
In such case I'll send the preceding entry to the next participant.
If you submit an entry that doesn't comply with the rules you'll be excluded from the event.
Post processing is allowed. You can even compose your entry from multiple photos if you so wish.
However all the elements in picture must be photographed. So no graphics, renderings etc. are allowed.
Use only your own photos. If you're caught of ripping off someone else's work you'll be excluded from the event
and any future Broken CameraPhone events as well.
Try to keep your submission private, so I'd prefer if you wouldn't post it in your thread here, or in your linked galleries etc. As the whole point is that you'll know only the entry preceding yours.
Submitting entries and signing up:
Submit your entry by private messaging it to me, escimo. I'll check it and send it to the next participant. I'll also include information about the deadline for your submission in this message.
Submit your entry on Saturday of the given week by noon GMT. So I'll be able to send it forward by Sunday.
Sign up for the event by posting in this thread.
I recommend doing that as late as possible since the schedule is a bit tight and if you receive an entry and aren't able participate within set time limits you'll be excluded from the event.
Signing up works on first come first served basis. You're allowed to sign up for the next spot once the preceding participant has started working on his/her entry. So you're allowed to sign up only for the next spot.
In exception to the two week rule: If such happens that no one has signed up for the next spot within the two weeks you're allowed to use for your entry you can keep working on it until someone signs up. However you then must be ready to submit your entry within 2 days. So it's better not to count on it.

I have the first picture ready and waiting, so spot number two is now up for grabs.
I'll sign up
But I would like to delay by one person (i.e. two weeks) because I'm very busy at the moment. Should be able to in a couple of weeks though!
I'd like sign up too, but put me about behind 2 person so I can use theirs as examples ^^
I'll sign up as well, but just not as the first person.
No one wants to be the first
The thing is that you'll
get the previous photo as a reference. Not all submitted so far so it doesn't really matter on which stage you enter.
How's this for a schedule?
Spot 2: NightWish - Deadline March 28th
Spot 3: Aoie_Emesai - Deadline April 11th
Spot 4: GuidoHunter_Toki - Deadline April 25th
NightWish would get the 2 week extension he needs and Aoie and Guido wouldn't have to follow me. The one I'll be posting isn't really that hard to follow...
edit: dates edited.
11.4 as in April 11th correct? Your non American standards are confusing me.
If so sounds good.
Yes. April 11th is what I meant.
(I always forget the time formatting...
That seems fine by me
OK. NightWish, I sent a link to the reference to you as a private message.
So each person gets about two weeks?
Yes. 2 weeks minimum if the person before you finishes early you'll get a bit more.
Sorry for the late response - I'll sign up, as well. In the event that we don't have the time (or access to anything good) to take a new photo, is it OK if we submit a photo that we took in the past?
I'd say it's OK if it fits the other criteria.
Agh, I really want to sign up! though it seems I have to many things to do, since I have to plan all my classes for the next year ~:-[
Slots are at the moment filled up to April 25th.
Just jump in when you have time to spare.
OK. NightWish's deadline is in a bit more than a week so just checking Aoie is the schedule still OK for you?
Yup. I'm fine with it
Just waiting for my turn now ^^
We have a bit of a problem. NightWish hasn't submitted his entry yet.
I've asked him if he could submit one if the deadline is extended. So firstly is it OK for you Aoie and Guido if you are pushed back for a week or so?
If NightWish can't submit an entry at the moment there would be two options. Either I send Aoie the first photo and we go on from there. This would mean that NightWish would be excluded from the event. I'd prefer not to do this since there aren't a whole lot of members to begin with.
The other option is that we start again from the top and reschedule. This would mean that I'd need to come up with another picture so that would also mean extending the schedule but NightWish would be able to participate when he's schedules allow him.
