Getting to know you~
...getting to know all about you~
Most of us here have chit-chatted, fought,
one another at certain levels as far back as 2008.
Not to mention pimping each other out
I just thought it would be nice to get to know more about each other.
Like where do you come from? What's your occupation or studies? Committed? Blackmail-worthy hobbies and interests? Blah blah blah?
You can even post embarrassing pics, especially ones where you're wearing a Sheryl dress.
Up to you with what information you wanna disclose, as long as it's something you're comfortable sharing.
so long as you don't post details you shouldn't be posting like your home address
Ooh~ I'll go first.
Let me see.
I live in the United States, as you all probably know by now. I was born in Virginia but have lived most of my life (and still do) in North Carolina. I'm part German on my mother's side but have never been to the country. I've always wanted to live in Japan since being a child.
My major in school is computer technology, English, writing, and web design; though my failures are French, science, and history (not that I ever liked the classes but there are major reasons why I failed them too, due to teachers and the schooling itself). I am currently taking Web Design (and passing) at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh online.
My major occupation at the moment is video editing. I make small commercials here and there for services that want to advertise but otherwise, I don't really focus on work so much as career. I used to write novels. I stopped partway through one with loss of inspiration and haven't written one since. Instead, I've been working on my light novel,
Watashi no Kare wa Pilot
for at least two years now with the intent to finish it as a complete novel (not to be published but to inspire myself to finish my novels of the past, like a personal thing). I also work at a local Bakery when the friend I know there has health problems. It is a small business but the people are nice.
Hobbies... You all know I like to write fanfiction but I don't write run-of-the-mill or dumb, plotless stories like most do. I like to plan back stories to all of mine. That is why they take so excessively long... but that's my perfection problem that I've yet to solve. I like to make anime music videos. It improves my editing skills and also I like to express myself, despite all of YouTube's disgusting copyright laws. I make various backgrounds and icons for people throughout the Internet. I also love to watch anime though I have a genre-bound obsession with it. As I've said before, I don't watch shounen unless its interesting, I hate tsundere female characters, and I dislike boring, flat stories that trail on for eternity like Naruto. So I have standards when watching a show. I also like to listen to music. I like a variety of genres for it but I hate country unless its really good like Nickelback (although he's more a rock genre now). I do sing; but recently, my neighbors have complained to high hell about noise, even called the cops three times on people who live across the street, so I am waiting until October to attempt my cover of
... and the lyrics are embedded in my mind /pales/.
I am pretty sure that you know all of my interests by now, outside of my love and devotion to Alto and Ranka; but I have many other ships that I devote myself to but don't show dedication in physical form (videos, fanfiction, or artwork); this is because I remain uninspired (one example is Heero and Relena from
) and have yet to find the right song or plot for them. My other interests outside of anime are Jerry Springer and a variety of different network shows. I've watched the
Legend of Korra
lately. I like to read horror novels but not watch them. I saw the uncut version of Men in Black III (which I expected to suck but it didn't). I like to write but my bad genres have always been romance and comedy. I have been trying to cure this by putting extreme effort into my most recent light novel but comedy has never been my forte. I usually like angst and horror, however; action is also one of my best. I love to be creative but also very descriptive.
Ah, I am single. I am devoted to career. I choose not to involve myself with someone because I do not want to harm them by choosing my career over them (the opposite of Sheryl). I am not religiously bound though. I do not have a specific religion because I believe them all to be complete bull. Seriously, there is only one God, why does everyone insist there is a different version of that same God? And we have wars about this crap!? Ugh...
Finally, I'm white. I feel that racial problems are ridiculous too. My best friend is Spanish, I have a black friend as well. I make my friends based on their personality and heart not on looks or color of skin, as my parents raised me. I feel that picking on someone for being a certain race shows how little respect you have for your own skin; and so, I mention it to share it with you all.
That is my bio (or the small version).
EDIT: I was born October 14th, 1991; making me 20 (soon to be 21). (It was a lovely year with shitty vehicles.) And I have a half-brother and half-sister from my father's first marriage. My half-brother died due to diabetes complications and my half-sister has her own life and barely knows I exist. My grandmother died the same year that we were flooded out of our recent house (2006) and I have missed her dearly. My parents and I have an ongoing hate for my grandfather (on my father's side) who treated my grandmother like crap (making her babysit everyone else's kids). He believes himself to be the King. Currently, he is still living but his health has deteriorated, forcing him to rely on my cousin to take care of him.
I love how she throws
(but otherwise its always a hit n' miss) even in a self-introductory page.
Alrighty, my turn. My real name is Magnus Knoblauch ( I know, right, it's like I looked really deeply into myself when choosing my screen name ^^ ). That last name means "garlic", so if you wanna get off some cheap shots, here's an opening. I'd wish I had some cooler last name, like Kell or Kerensky, but what can ya do.
I've recently had my 37th birthday and am just now finishing off college, with some exams still ahead of me this year before getting my title as a magister of socio-economic history ( with side careers in political sciences and Latin American studies ). I started out late in college, at 24 years and slacked off a lot in the middle, which explains why I didn't finish sooner.
As for my life history, I was born in Germany and lived there until I was 16 years old. Since my mother originally hailed from Paraguay ( a German descendant of colonists who came over to Latin America at the beginning of the 20th century ), my parents decided to emigrate there in 1991 for a less stressful life. I spent almost seven years over there, first off finishing up high school in the beautiful small town of Obligado and then working at a daughter company of Siemens for some years in the capital.
My sister helped me set up a possibility to return to Germany to go to college and so I did in 1998, moving to Hamburg, where I still live. After spending one year equalizing my high school degree to the German standard ( it is obligatory for a lot people from other countries to do that when they wish to study in Germany ), I enrolled in economic sciences. It took my five semesters to realize how much I hated that choice of career and so I changed to my current career.
Currently I am working a students job, doing content management for a provider of self-same, working on the intranet of an Italian banking group. After I finish college at the end of the year, I hope to get a job in my chosen career, but we'll see what happens then.
As for my hobbies: I've got a lot. ^^ Reading political news ( mostly US politics, which are endlessly fascinating, although severely depressing ), watching anime, reading science-fiction and fantasy novels, gamemastering and playing tabletop RPGs, playing video games ( World of Warcraft surely cost me a few years of my life ^^ ), listening to music... well, that's about it. My life philosophy is that we only got one life ( I'm not a religious believer in the afterlife ), so we better have fun in the time we got.
To detail some of the topics I can talk with knowledge about, in no particular order:
- US politics
- European history ( especially the Enlightment, and even more especially the German Enlightment )
- Latin American geopolitics
- Macross ( duh )
- World of Warcraft
- Star Wars
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- Harry Dresden
- A Song of Ice and Fire
- Mass Effect
- BioWare games in general
- World of Darkness
- Marvel comics, X-Men especially, rest also quite good.
- The Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Golarion and probably some other campaign worlds
And more obscure stuff.
So, that's me. Next.
Names Michelle Correia. Last name is said as "Korea"... honestly what a weird sounding portuguese name...
I am 24 years old and am turning 25 this November >w<. (Scorpio!~)
I live and have always lived in Southern California, I'm currently working at Knotts Berry Farm (UGH) though its only temporary (hopefully) as I have decided to continue my education this fall. I'm not aiming for anything in particular, but I guess my dream would a freelance artist/graphic designer. (can you tell I'm not all that confident?)
I'm also an INFP and my hobbies are:
- Drawing, gaming, watching anime/cartoons/tv, reading (Manga, Game of Thrones, Homestuck), and killing time on tumblr (
link to my Tumblr
Games have usually been League of Legends as of late, though I'm really excited for Guild Wars 2, Borderlands 2, Assassins Creed 3, and a bunch of other stuff. Current tv watches are my daily does of Daily Show and Colbert, Suits, Once Upon a Time, Adventure Time, and Motorcity.
And lastly.. sorry boys I'm taken
(5 years come April)
@Tak, I know that feel, bro. *pat*
I'll go next~
I'm Sandra and right now I am an English teacher in one of the Philippines' renowned universities here in the southern area.
I turn 22 this October but I still look like a high schooler (you should have seen my students' faces when they realized I would be their teacher).
I learned English through watching cartoons as a kid. My original plan was to take up law or get an MBA after graduating from English but I realized that getting some work experience will come in handy. So I jumped at the chance when my university contacted me after graduation to join their teaching staff.
As a brat, I've always loved writing. I've joined and won in various school press conferences, short story writing, and essay writing contests from elementary up to college. One of my life goal's is to publish at least one book, which is a collection of my short stories.
I'm Filipino, but genetic-wise, I'm a mutt.
I have Filipino, some Italian, some Spanish, and a LOT of Chinese, as well as an obscure dash of French blood in me. Despite the genetic mess, I can only speak 3 languages: English, Visayan (a dialect here down South), and the main language, which is Tagalog. To be honest though, I prefer to speak in the first 2 because Tagalog is hella annoying. I've always wondered how it's the national language when Visayan is the commonly used language here.
These days, I've become extremely picky with my anime. I've been more into watching TV shows and reading books. I absolutely adore A Song of Fire and Ice! The same for it's TV counterpart...Daenerys all the way! 8'D I also like the Supernatural TV series, and the Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated animated TV series, as well as the Legend of Korra.
Oh and surprisingly...the recent Barbie web series is really good.
I recommend that to anyone who wants to have a few laughs.
For music, with the exception of Sheryl/May'n, Sixpence None The Richer, and James Ingram, I don't really have that much of a favorite group or band, as long as a song is good then it's fine with me (just as long as the songs are not full of nonsense).
Relationship-wise, I've been with vivitoru for almost 3 years. I met him in this forum 4 years ago due to Macross Frontier and Sheryl (as well as Alto/Sheryl), which is why that anime will always be special for me. We were finally able to meet each other face to face last July, on the 4th. It was the best 10 days ever, and I hope to visit him in his place this December or early next year.
*throws a garland of garlic on Maggy* 8D
ah! thanks for reminding me about Supernatural... I need to write down that it starts back up in October. (and to also look for Korra info) (ALSO Daenerys is my fav character in the books... I'm only on book 2 though (still) so no spoilers please!)
Also, in case anyone curious... I'm also a mutt. English, Portuguese, Luthuanian, German, and Italian.
Oh, vivitoru is a guy? Well, he's a lucky dog.
<repels garlic garland with a
Let's try this.
) and I'm from
Just turned 35 and am happily married with two kids (a seven year old girl named
and a strapping one year old boy named
. Yeah, you read that right). They are something of a full time job on top of the one I already had (I'm a systems analyst for a regional bank).
Ever since I can remember, I've been into comics, cartoons, movies and videogames. I also learned english all by myself (like our Lord
) through watching movies, reading comics and playing (mostly adventure) games on a myriad of gaming systems and computers - full disclosure: my first computer was a MSX; I trust not many of you will know what that even means. But before that, I actually learned how to program cards and a little language called Assembly. I'm giving away my age even more, aren't I?
I've been known to be something of an athlete in my younger days, participating in regional and national school competitions, be it swimming or with a basketball team or another. That all changed when I was first diagnosed with condromalacy at the tender age of 15 - and had to give all that up. But hey, at least there was all these other wonderful stuff I already liked to do, right?
been known for being a bit of a... how do you kids phrase it these days? A bit of a
. But hey, we do really like to enjoy life, around these parts - and I did enjoy my freedom, while I was free. Maybe a tad too much, at times, but it is what it is.
Regarding animes and japanese culture, my first contact with that subset was via local TV stations airing stuff like Starblazers and Groizer X. But what made me actually fall in love with the art form was
, in the form of
. I just couldn't get enough of it. From that to entering local clubs of fansubbers and getting access to stuff the TV didn't show around these parts, was a simple thing. And I've been hooked ever since.
Didn't manage to learn the language yet, but it's always something to strive for, in the future.
will always have a special place in my heart as well, since it was the series that made me want to participate in this forum more and that led to me getting to know a bunch of nice (and not so nice) people, whom I've come to actually cherish in a way I didn't think was possible for people you've never physically met.
And there was
, who rose to become my favorite character in anime, and even a contender to the spot of favorite song, in the form of
(it's up there with Fly Me to the Moon, in the immortal voice of ol' Blue Eyes). In all, how can you ever forget something like this?
, your surname is a very common one in both Portugal and Brazil. Nothing weird about it.
Beto-> well thats good to know.
And pictures who what now?
I'm twenty five years old. I live in the Greater Vancouver Regional District in the Canadian province of British Columbia. My training is as a library technician, but I currently work in an office. Anime is one of my main hobbies, I got into it around 2005 or 2006 after my brother got into it. (He wanted to play D&D, but had difficulty attending the tabletop gaming sessions the club he joined put on and ended up going to the club's anime screenings instead.) I used to be into computer games quite a bit but I'm not so much anymore.
You may notice I didn't mention my gender. That's because I want you to guess. People seem to have trouble telling my gender online so I'm curious as to what you people think it is.
^Oh oh I know~! That must be a hint! Ze is intersex?
Oh Roberta-chan, I'm so so so sorrrry. I kept spelling your name wrong. Thanks for correcting me. I promise I'll never ever ever ever ever do it again. :3
And who would have thought that a certain scientific Railegun was actually a dragon all along? Reading about you all is soo much fun!
...I always assumed you're one of us gals for some reason...but given the way you write, I don't know, really...
I'll have to agree with erfine that it's rather fun reading about you all. Haven't quite decided what I might share though ^^; besides the fact that my various jobs are currently keeping me so busy that I probably shouldn't be posting here.
But a little message to pass on: Takky seems to be surviving, though he's still got 6 days to go, the poor thing.
Poor Takky. He will be missed.

Haha, I'm actually a guy. And not one who would easily be mistaken for a woman in person (there's a reason I cosplay as Ozma rather than Alto). People seem to mistake my gender quite a bit online though.
I'm curious as to what it is about how I write that had you reconsidering though. I would have thought it would have been the actual content of the posts I made that would have been the big hint as to my actual gender.
So I skipped the "Embarrassing" part of embarrassing picture.... but for those whom are curious...
Michelle darlin', you should not have showed me what you look like...
- - - - -
Well, saving the best for last...
Or is it...
My name is Takeshi Hayashi *
, now take a wild, wild guess where I got my disgustingly simple nick from.
Hell, even my real name is hella short. It comes in two friggin' Chinese characters, talk about
So my childhood consisted of moving around the world. I lived in Germany for a while, when the Brandenburg gate looked like it was smeared by shit. I mean after all, you couldn't possibly count the Soviets to actually take
, could ya?
Eventually, I ended up in the United States, but not before learning to speak Chinese!
So here I remained, in
, and I guess I won't be leaving any time soon!
I have a degree in Political Science, a Minor in History and a Masters in Education. That... well, somehow made me a teacher, so I guess thats what I've been doing.
Aside from the usual, I am also an avid shooter and a gun collector. I have a soft spot for old rifles form WWII, and do possess a few in my collection.
Mauser 98K & Mosin Nagant 1938 Tula
On the other hand, I do a bit of Gunpla (or anything else associated with kits). Unfortunately, since I don't have all the time in the world, I've neglected this for a while... and created myself an artificial epidemic (of space killing)...
Someone help me
I also hike, hunt, camp & I actually play a certain civilized sport called tennis. Favorite sport to watch is football (no, not the American variety), and you can count on me cheering during FIFA or Eurocup.
To keep this
anime-relevant... my favorite five series I can think of on top of my head are:
(I like Hime too, but not as much as Otome, especially since the latter has a larger universe for me to appreciate)
(Did that surprise you?)
And no bonus guessing the fifth:
Lastly, I am a Libertarian and I am a Ron Paul supporter.
Hmm... thats it for now, until next time.
@Tak, I see the figures...but where's the dress?
P.S. Forgot to add Rupert Holmes to my music list~
Okay, that Tak was ethnically Japanese is something which I never suspected.
I thought he really was of German descendance. Well, life surprises you in its myriad forms.
Oh, and welcome back!
