Now that I’ve finished answering Demisoda’s query about what kind of female characters I like including the requisite odd to Kuroneko (feel free to make comments), I can answer your question. Though I must not that to me “favourite fanservice in moe anime” isn’t necessarily the same as what I’d consider my favourite “moe fanservice”, though there is some overlap. Because I’m a bit of a purist in regards to “moe fanservice”. To qualify, a scene must effectively combine a “moe hit” – ie. charm or bewitch the viewer – with eroticism.

It is extremely rare that an anime pulls this off effectively.

Right off the bat, you can eliminate almost any fanservice that is more comedic than erotic. Likewise, almost all over displays of sexuality are out, because the sexual element cannot be allowed to overpower the “charm” element and frequently does. Furthermore, an erotic scene that happens to be soothing or romantic at the same time does not necessarily qualify, there must be an honest to god “moe hit” in the scene. Few scenes qualify

So with that in mind, here’s my top three – I suspect you’re familiar with all of them.
1) I’ll start off with by far the most explicit scene of the three… Akira slipping into the bath with Haruka in episode 5 of Yosuga no Sora. The little bit of shyness on Akira’s part combines with her normally energetic personality in a really cutesy way and provides an effective moe hit, and of course “girl slips into your bath” is just classic erotic fantasy.
2) The aforementioned bit with Eru leaning over the table in a way that ever so slightly emphasizes her body. Kyoto’s fluid animation has always given Eru a little bit of a moe “special sauce” – her energetic movements are adorable – and her it gives her a bit of an erotic appeal as well.
3) Matsuri lying on top of a pill of fresh blankets with Yorito and kicking her legs back and forth in episode 6 of Sola. I think Sheba has had an avatar of it from time to time. The context helps, as the surrounding scene really emphasizes Matsuri’s cutesy, slightly flirtatious, slightly erotic behavior. Plus, short skirt and kneesocks. And Noto Mamiko.

Looking at that list, I’d say energetic personalities and subtle, cutesy flirtation (demonstrated by Matsuri, but I’d say Kuroneko is good at it too) and energetic, cutesy movements that are somehow also erotic are the most effective tactics.

(BTW, did that whole speil make me sound like a creepy pervert?)

Don't get me wrong, I liked Hiromi very much - her dignified suffering really appealed to me, especially the way she bore what Shin's mother did to her. But I didn't love the show for Hiromi - Hiromi was one of the many reasons I loved the show. I happened to think Shin was a great male lead, and I had no problem either with Noe or the café girl - they were both fine, just wrong for Shin romantically.

I did, actually - I had an avatar of Shin and Hiromi's kiss. I don't know that I was such a huge fan of hers as of the relationship and the show in general, though I certainly preferred her among the three girls. I'm very unused to rooting for the winner in romance series.

I don't hesitate to unload on Nisio to spare anybody's feelings, believe me. I'm just at the point where I've said the stuff so many times that I don't even want to think about Nisio anymore! When I first posted on Bakemono, when had no idea who Nisio was, I used terms like "Self-consciously clever" and "tricks that seemed to serve no real purpose in actually telling a story - they were merely there so there would be an excuse for clever dialogue and flashy quick-cut direction. " "After watching that episode I felt like one of those Japanese kids who had seizures after that Pokemon incident. Seriously - my head physically hurt. I just wanted to actually watch people doing something and hear them say something they actually meant. I get it - lots of hidden meanings and symbolism and double-entendres in the dialogue. Oh so clever dissonant visual styles. Really, it's just showing off."

I find in further exposure to Nisio, my opinion hasn't changed at all. I nailed it right from the beginning...

Oh God, I don't know if I even want to get started - once I get going on Nisio it's hard to stop.

Basically, I find him insufferably self-indulgent - obsessed with his own cleverness. His dialogue is incredibly false and infantile. In a word - yuck. I really can't stand him.

"Not a big fan" is a massive understatement. I loathe Nisio's writing style.
