We are not discrediting Ishida, but what Ishida does Ichigo does better. What I dislike is the lengths people go to make it seem like Ichigo doesn't notice Orihime. If Kubo wanted to make Orihime fall out of love with Ichigo, then he would've made it more obvious that he ignored her and such, but he isn't infact he's being such a knight in shining armor to her. Who wouldn't fall in love with him right now? He is a cutie pie!

I don't really know japanese, but if you check translator sites it has "protect her for me" also. It can't be biased!
