Yes indeed, and once again Hasekura sensei uniquely decide to approach alchemy in the story as ancient science(mostly chemistry and metallurgy) rather than the mystic element of it, which actually is closer to the real alchemy. For all its deficiencies, alchemy was really just ancient science(with philosopher stone as the ancient version of machine singularity ) before all the mostly inaccurate rumor about it start to spread.

This is why I like Hasekura-sensei's work a lot. His work is set in a fantasy world, and although it's not 100% accurate(it's still a fiction after all), there's always a sense of accurate realism in his story setting and that make his work unique compared to other (fantasy) writer.

Yeah, I know, and the interaction between Kusra and the airheaded Fenesis are also charming in their on way actually, although it's mostly one sided Kusra and his friend(forgot his name, the rather vulgar looking alchemist) awesomeness than equal banter. It's just that I've never seen a banter between two main lead as sharp as the one in Spice and Wolf, which is why it always hold a special place for me And again, Holo >>>>>>> Fenesis(I have a soft spot for wise-cracking teasing onee-san chara )

I agree that the premise is more interesting than Spice and Wolf(Scientific Alchemy FTW!!! although the vocab used is also much more harder. i never know the japanese word for distillation and mettalurgy until I read this novel ), but Holo >>>>>> Fenesis . And I also miss the teasing banter between the two lead, although Kusra is definitely a better lead than Lawrence.
