LittleKuriboh has a fair internet following due to his Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged parody series that he has been doing for a few years. He was invited as a special guest to AVCon and did his panel twice, got a few hundred people each time. His channel on Youtube is CardGamesFTW.

We made a club channel on Youtube for the videos. AJASChan is the channel. Part 1 of the History of Anime panel is up, as is Part 2 of the G is for Robots: An Explanation panel. The uploads are freaking slow....History part 2 is about 70% done and will take another hour to finish...Then there's two other parts to get up, plus my mate has to upload the first part of the mech panel.

AVCon 2011 was awesome. 14k+ attendance was a damn good result, particularly considering Adelaide is one of the smaller capital cities in Australia. Nearly 50 people attended the History of Anime panel I did - which is a lot more than I expected, particularly since LittleKuriboh was doing a repeat of his panel at that time. Editing of the recording is finished, doing the uploads now. Presentation lated 51 minutes, so the panel will be uploaded as 4 videos (Youtube's current limit is 15 mins) and fully available in 8 hours. Look forward to it.

Hey. Do you still play Monday Night Combat or the L4D games? Ended up buying all those during the Steam sale and am looking for people to play with.

It's not actually the games that have a following really. It's the characters themselves. (I don't think 50% of the Touhou fanbase have ever even played any of the games.) A bunch of crazy fans randomly made up all these personalities for these characters that really didn't have any to speak of, based on really loose logic ("she sad something sarcastic in her single line of dialog, obvious tsundere deadpan snarker", "she mentioned food once, she clearly only thinks about eating ever" etc), and now there's a huge fanbase for all these character personalities which are themselves entirely fan-created. What I really don't get though is what it was about these character designs that sparked this in the first place. Same thing with Hatsune Miku or outright fan-created characters like Kyonko. Just don't get it. Probably don't want to. Fans are scary.

I couldn't say from experience in Rift since I never even did any dungeons except Iron Tomb when I already outleveled it, and never even made it to 50, but from all the widespread forum threads with posts by non-raiders and fresh level 50s saying they clear these things without a wipe in 30 mins I'm gonna assume it's not a matter of gear. Like I said though I'd already quit before this change. My main reason was that the rifts themselves don't even matter and they turned them into a pointless mechanic. It's pretty funny when the best gear you can get from the highest level epic stones is lv 42 and worse than some of the last green quest rewards. Glad I wasted all that time tracking all those invasions down. If I wanted to play a game where the only way to progress was to spend hours in dungeons and queues I would have just not quit WoW.

I haven't really looked at much regarding SWTOR at all but all I can really say is, that game better be DAMN good or the hype backlash will absolutely kill it. I don't think I've ever seen this much hype for a game. I think people are gonna be really disappointed when the "cinematic experience" turns out to be a really linear questing system just like people are complaining about with WoW.

I'm just randomly playing a bunch of games lately, switching between Contra, Mortal Kombat, Ogre Battle on PS1, and Shogun 2 over Steam.

My friends keep bugging me to watch Game of Thrones but I haven't gotten around to it. Guess the premise of it doesn't really excite me or something. I never read any of the books either so I'd be starting from scratch. I pretty much don't watch TV at all, I really should cancel my cable subscription since I'm paying a lot of money for something I don't use.

I'm watching like 7-8 anime this season though, that's a record for me. Strongly recommend AnoHana, Tiger & Bunny, Steins Gate, and Hanasaku Iroha.

I saw your posts in the anime identification thread; don't expect too many interesting character developments if you plan to buy the Touhou games. They're bullet hell shooters with only a couple lines of dialog. Most of all those crazy personalities they have are entirely fan-created, though apparently some of it has become canon after the fact; it's one of the most rabid fanbases I've ever seen and tbh I don't really understand it.

The games themselves are pretty fun though, I actually own a couple myself. There's no English releases for them but some of the menus already have English in them by default and those that don't are still fairly easy to navigate. The dialog is all in Japanese but some of the games do have translation patches.

In regards to the previous topic, yeah, I've heard a lot about EVE but I feel like it's probably too far along for me to get into it now. Also I don't like that kind of ruthless atmosphere or being able to be looted in PvP, and it sounds like the main challenge aspect is spreadsheet min-maxer-type so I don't think it's the game for me.

I officially canceled my Rift account the other day also. I've heard the last patch made the dungeons so easy that people are now doing them with offspec naked healers and 2-hander tanks wearing leather, while standing in the fire and pulling 4-5 packs of mobs at once. While simultaneously making the rewards worse so that you have to grind more to get the "badge" gear. I don't regret canceling.

You sure have a thing for befriending random people who then go on to delete their accounts, lol. Still playing Rift? I've mostly given up. I think the MMO thing has just run its course for me. I've spent more time playing Contra and Super C on the original NES than Rift lately, haha.
