Thanks. I had hoped the post would force more to think seriously about whether they are engaging actively with life, rather than endlessly debating highly abstract issues. People believe what they do for a variety of reasons but, in the end, if those beliefs do not inform their behaviour, then they are very probably shallow whims rather than beliefs per se.

Age plays a very important role. I don't like trumpeting that very simple fact, because I know how it comes across as being very pompous and arrogant. With age comes experience, and with experience comes perspective. Things that we used to think are very important — such as whether God exists — gradually become less so as we grow older. As one of the NPR This I Believe contributors, Franciscan priest Richard Rohr, said: "Religious belief has made me comfortable with ambiguity."

It's strange, isn't it? As humans, we will always want answers. But with age, and faith, we will finally come to accept life's little mysteries. I wouldn't have it any other way. While I value the quest for certainty, at the same time, I find absolute certainty very depressing.

With absolute certainty, there is no room for mystery, no room for magic, no room for imagination. I can't imagine a more depressing reality.

So, while I remain a steadfast freethinker, I have grown to accept the mystery of religion. I have come to appreciate the comfort it provides adherents. In the meantime, I will strive to keep my own faith alive.

I have faith in humanity. I believe in our ability to rise above our limitations. I believe that we will never be alone, so long as we cherish our duties to one another.

Thanks for the clarification. I will do that if certain animes that I am interested are re-released back into circulation or brought back into Blu-ray format. In all honesty, I some of my favorites have stopped being produced and are no longer mention on some of the distribution sites.

Ah, the old good-cop/bad-cop routine, eh? OK, I'm happy to be the tough guy this time around.
