Yeah, it makes for a great contrast from the original language for sure. Code Geass' art style seems to fit its premise quite well, so that might be why.

Speaking of music, I delved into the Amagami SS soundtrack again, and I'm wondering why I neglected to keep the B-sides to the opening songs back then. I'm like...the biggest fan of jazzy and calming songs.

Akari's definitely too adorable to be put into this, but since Akane's in the show I often forget about everything. That girl just makes me all jelly. That one scene at the end was definitely fantastic; I had a feeling they'd be doing something, but not to that scale. Any way to end the series is okay, but I think they'll go out with a "bang" like the last time. Literally.

You said it. I very much like Engrish as well; Saori Hayami and Shizuka Itou are two fine speakers of it. I think it's because it's not spoken out of a lack of knowledge, but because that's how they truly say it. Some just say it better than them. And yes, the art style of Code Geass takes a bit to get used to, but afterwards I don't find it bad.

Ah okay, well "dense" would be a fair descriptor for someone who is void of music in their life. I haven't played a song for a couple hours now and I'm already feeling the urge to do so. In fact, I will. :3

Oh dear. The difference is that Engrish doesn't sound really obnoxious most of the time, you know? I do suppose any language is much easier to learn the earlier you pick it up, so it's best to start early. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan but it doesn't exactly bother me like name changing and song dubbing does. In cases like Azumanga Daioh where the dub keeps the characters and setting, it technically still is Japan. Cardcaptor Sakura is fantastic, one of the prettiest looking series I've seen, and it's quite decently old now too.

Did he look mentally unstable? I'd wager the only way for that to happen is if he's gone off the deep end and just lives in ultimate solitude or something. I'd personally go mad without a day of music.

It's definitely not easy to swap over for them, nor is it easy for us. I learned Korean early on, so I found it easier to adapt to as well, but I truly think it's a thing we can all get down if we actually cared enough to. Mastering's not a necessity, but basic knowledge would be nice. Honorifics are no problem in dubs, just as long as they don't change everything else around it. Like, if they said Madison-chan in the Cardcaptor dub, I would have probably went on a bloody rampage.

That's true. The thing is, the aspects that English borrows from is still the primary language in the respective countries, so using it doesn't change too much- maybe just a few accents and the way things are spelled. It's often said that Japanese people have a very difficult time learning our language (without faults in the pronunciation), and vice versa. The Japanese language resorts to multiple segments and has no use of vowels, so enunciation is often difficult. It's why you'll hear North Americans say "A-SU-na" as opposed to "Asu-na", or other examples as such. In turn, you can just look at Engrish as an example for the other side. While both parties can benefit from learning better enunciation, I believe we have less of an excuse to allow so much of it to happen in official stuff, because it shows how little we really do look into it. Unlike the Japanese side, we have romaji; we're given everything we need but still end up here. It's not like there's an English equivalent for romaji for Japan anyways; they have to learn it all through their own methods. Like I said though, I think we can all benefit from looking into each other's languages more, especially if you're going to be making official dubs of another's media and profiting off of it. At least have a little respect and keep the names Japanese if you're keeping them in a Japanese setting. :3

That album is beautiful, let me tell you. There's several cover songs on top of Nanairo Botan that are fantastic, and I've been listening to them for a while now.

That's a good question, but I don't think I have a problem with it since Japan has officially incorporated bits of English into their everyday speech anyways. English just works as a second language, others not so much. It's like if we dubbed a Spanish movie that's filled with accents; it just wouldn't work unless you've got some serious skill under the table.

P.S. Sorry about the late reply, the new iDOLM@STER album with Ryuuguu Komachi and Nanairo Botan was in my possession today and I've just been draining myself listening to it.

It's like a double edged sword though, because when the song's in Japanese, it makes for a weird switch back when the characters talk again. It makes me curious as to if people actually study some series before dubbing them.
