I literally just finished marathoning all 113 episodes of Galaxy Express 999 in 5.5 days.

You should really watch it. This is just so darn special and epic...give a few episodes a go. I'm still in awe. For something that long to be so darn good for the distance and have such an amazing female character in Maetel...wow...

Nah, it's okay, its a good debate IMO. And thanks, you wrote some interesting points as well about the episode.

I checked the official website, and it looks like Ando (the director) had storyboarded the episode himself, which explains why it was so good (that and Okada must have brought her A-Game) a whole lot of solid direction was in the episode, with a whole array of emotions being delivered from fear to sadness, happiness and the like.

Makes me want every episode for him to storyboard lol

Thanks for the suggestion of True Tears. Beautiful anime in its own right. It actually reminded me about School Days a bit, but I know they will not pull a SD ending since she is a sportsman or actually woman

If you get your video uploaded, you should make a post in the videos thread. I wonder if Veoh/dailymotion is any good, if youtube is being lame

This post should give you a good guide to a treasure trove of good pre-2000 anime.

You're joining the mess that is ISML? Lol...not the best year to, man. 2008 and 2009 were better years. The expasion has led to China and Taiwan dominating the voter base. Mio may have dominated 2010 but not everything went her way. This year, Kanade's base is ridiculously strong. And unless someone knows how to find 2k+ people in China to anti-vote Kanade, she'll go undefeated.

Meh, it's just proof those countries like women that don't talk back and they can control. Why am I not surprised. No wonder tryptophanic series/characters dominate sales and polls.

PS. Watch some retro anime! It's FAR BETTER than this year! Seriously, if you don't ever watch material that Nagai, Matsumoto or Tomino created back then, for example, you're missing out on a lot.

I'll be running panels at the anime convention next month. History of Anime is the one I'll be speaking on. Make sure you watch it when it's happened and uploaded, because you seem like someone who cares about the industry/sees beyond the caricatures that sell and want to understand anime's roots more. So don't be afraid to take that step. Took me a long time, but it's worth it!!!

I would rank this, Wandering Son, House of Five Leaves (three NoitaminAs, LOL) and Cross Game as my favorite dramas of the last few years.

As I understand it, AnoHana is doing phenomenally well in advance DVD sales - "the series that saved NoitaminA", etc. I'm glad it seems to be well-received, though I'm still shocked it's been so popular.

Obviously, it's easy to disagree civilly when the person you're disagreeing with is civil in the first place! So that's appreciated. I hate to say a word against Clannad, as it's such a sacred cow and it's not as if I dislike it. I just think it's overrated - for KEY works I much prefer Kanon. I think it's a bit more subtle and more in the vein of those other dramas I mentioned, that seem - to my biased eyes - more willing to step off the gas and let the drama work on its own accord.

Just got up to date with Steins; Gate.

I must say, although I was initially mainly watching it for the character interactions and comedy, it suddenly has a intruiging plot regarding time paradoxes, time travelling and what not. Makes my head hurt a lil though
