Oh RRR. That kancolle joke is rather old! But, in the light of it, rear admiral is best admiral.

So in spite of all the hand wringing over the ending, it looks like Yuuki Yuuna is a late bloomer sales wise:
    Volume 1 first week sales (mid-December): 4871
Volume 1 sales, most recent available data (mid-January): 10373
Volume 2 first week sales: 7664

Still feels like many people I know haven't heard of it let alone seen it, but it makes me feel optimistic about a sequel.

lol yeah for sure... even with Inaho's upgrade he's still prolly the least expressive character quite the opposite of Honoka indeed. =x

I don't regret purchasing HuniePop one bit. I just find it sad how quickly so many people judge it. I think it actually does a lot of things to be better than the norm and more accomodating to females. And really, for a $10 game, I think it offers more than things priced far higher than it.

For the record, Manga Gamer offers the 18+ version straight up. Steam doesn't but the game developers did make a patch available so you can use the 18+ version on Steam, which normally isn't something Steam allows but they don't seem to be preventing it.

Also again, for the record, my current avatar is Aiko from the game itself. It's a crop from one of her selfies (an all-ages one).

In short, I'd recommend it since I have gathered from previous discussions that you're open enough to things not being strictly the way Japan does it. HuniePop still is cute but tries to be more adult/honest with how it does it. It's not for everyone and it's pitching somewhere not normally aimed at. It may sound absurd to say this would end up being one of my fave games of 2015 but it looks like it will be.

I have purchased it when it was at the $8 price. I think it would now be $10. Still worth imo.

The thing I think you need to understand before jumping in or taking one certain vid on Youtube of it too seriously is that HuniePop is somewhat a comedy/parody. In that there are elements of the whole VN/dating sim/puzzle solving/match 3 genres that are absurd and only tailored to certain subsections. HuniePop pokes fun at things via Kyu, the fairy, who flat out tells you what you're in for each time you meet one of the prospective females. Some conversations material can be a bit serious, some very comedic, some very sensual. It depends on the female you're interacting with.

    The general premise is:

    - Pick a few females to interact with each day
    - Learn their details and remember them
    - Play match 3 during the date
    - Earn Hunie to spend to make the match 3 components more achievable because each time you have a successful date, the match 3 becomes harder for all character dates, not just specific ones.
    - Successful dates earn Munie which you use to buy gifts. Gifts can either permanently boost the Hunie you get from conversing with the females or one-off mega gains.
    - As you gradually get closer to them, they send a few selfies which gradually get more graphic.
    - If you succeed at the fourth date, you then reach the fifth encounter where you can't fail but you have to match 3 at a way faster speed to reach the target score and get the very graphic image.

As with any game of this type, I guess dialogue will eventually get repetitive and there will be the odd moment that might get a bit weird. But overall, I think this game is good. Most of the backlash I've seen towards it comes from the following biases people have:

    - The West doing an anime-like game with English voices? Get lost, Westerners can't do cute right and English voices are cancer.
    - Oh really, an anime-inspired game...but I don't like anime...
    - Oh this has 18+ moments....what a joke...
    - It's just a match 3 with adult stuff....
    - The video of Audrey being a complete bitch towards Kyanna is not the norm for the game but people thing Audrey is the stock standard of the game.
    - This isn't deep and emotional like a VN, why should I care?
    - Reddit being complete ragers about it

Perhaps they have a point to some degree, each to their own. But I think such potential misconceptions overshadow the following things that Huniepop does that most things in the genre(s) don't:

    - The females are...adults. It feels weird to have to emphasise that but it is key. You have ones like Tiffany and Nikki who have barely reached adulthood then you have Aiko who's 28 and Jessie who's 32. There's a fair age spectrum and difference in personality.
    - There's some attempt at varying ethnicities. Kyanna is Mexican, Lola is African-American, Aiko is Japanese, Bella seems somewhat Middle-Eastern. On the same token, it trys to avoid being too stereotypical. And if moments do seem like they may be reaching that, the females certainly take a jab at it.
    - Life situations also vary. Kyanna is a single mother (now how often do you encounter one of those in this genre?!), Aiko is a physics lecturer, Jessie is a porn actress (yep, she is), Bella is quite spiritual, Lola is a flight attendant, a mega bitch.
    - The art is nice. I don't care what those 'it doesn't like 100% like anime/Japanese VN' people say. I like it. 80% of the artists for this game were female. Which says something - this game isn't just for males. I honestly think this game was also pitched to have a significant female player base. Some things I've read suggest there's a far larger female proportion that play it than people want to believe.
    - You get to decide whether you want to be male or female. Yeah, that's right - you can take the yuri route with all females if you so wish. Again, how often would you see that?
    - The voice acting is's not top level by any means but there is far worse out there. I find most of them agreeable.
    - As long as one understands this game isn't meant to be deep/walls of text detail, I think people can appreciate it.
    - There's a good amount of alternate hairstyles/outfits to keep things interesting.
    - One could never possibly remember everything about every female, so just coasting through it isn't how it goes down. The scaling of the puzzle aspect also ensures one has to think/be active during the game. It isn't merely click-click like so many VNs.
    - I actually like the music. I mean like I quite like it.
    - Hangout/date spots have a nice atmosphere.
    - You don't have to plays several hours each day to avoid stuff like decay or whatever and be forced to be so invested to it like Love Plus forced/encouraged people to. You play it as you wish, when you wish.
    - I love the lingo. Tiffany saying 'What's shaking bacon?' or Kyu exclaiming 'Like a bawse!' are undeniably cool.

Hi mate, been a while. Things were fairly intense last week - and I also had a long weekend that was taken over by an outing to a conservation park and a major house cleanup. Seeing the wildlife on a cooler day was refreshing but yesterday really drained me.

One question I wanted to ask you - have you heard of or encountered a game called HuniePop?
