It did annoy me a fair bit while watching. I thought it was stupid and unnecessary. I didn't mention it much, because this very same awful treatment of the female cast is a staple of the show- it's happened to everyone single one so far, so it was just a matter of time in my mind. Since I saw it coming, I'm trying to ignore it, unless it gets Suguha/Asuna levels of bad

I think one thing that is more palatable in some ways compared to Cardcaptor Sakura is the lessened presence/impact of males. The whole glam male thing being plastered over and over from high teens to early 40s gets weary. I still find it hard to process they want the viewer to believe Sakura's father looked like that in his early 40s....then again, it was CLAMP. But still...if a character in their 40s was female, I don't think she'd receive as flattering treatment.

And yes, one of my closer friends does constantly refer to Nanoha As as magical girls with Gundams, but only that series.

There is a social pressure that has probably also factored into the Nanoha/Fate pairing never going into fruition openly. Japanese media never seem to grow tired of harassing prominent single women about why they're not married or had a child yet - as if it were a capital crime in their eyes. Pretty shameful of them. Even sadder that, as is the case with many similar social pressures, a significant proportion of women also cry foul of single, career-minded women.

But on the counterside, think about why women these days are more reluctant to have children. A lot of employers see pregnant women or mothers as a liability that would be outdone by someone without a child. The time-consuming nature of modern life makes it harder to have the time to attend to being a proper parent, as well as time for oneself. Financially, it's quite hard to afford it these days. Security of employment, state of economies, an increasingly narcissistic, hostile and pessimistic species. It's not so easy to be able to enter that role anymore.

It's not like it's much better lately in Australia, though. When clowns that are somehow elected politicians like Eric Abetz claiming breast cancer is linked to abortion and that vile scheming bastard Christopher Pyne claiming that women will never earn the same amount as men in higher-paying roles, when ironically within Australia, the majority of the people graduating into higher-earning roles are now female. I'm beginning to be very concerned about this state of mind like we're supposed to be living in the 1950s. That mentality within the Diet in Japan has been noted for a long time, but it's re-emerging within Australia - which sickens me.

It takes a fairly brave author to openly declare that two females will be with each other for the long run and do it in a mature way. I think it's accepted within Western media now too that showing potential gay/lesbian couplings that won't eventuate is to be expected now. I'm not sure if that means that we've progressed that much, though. Creative mediums, West and East, still seem to treat the idea with little respect. Hence why Milk Morinaga knows she can never let Girl Friends be adapted.

The thing about the rise of the glam male that is irking me is that post-Death Note, the presence of a sociopathic/evil male with women clinging to him is getting too common. Being pretty and the object of erotic fantasy doesn't excuse the things they do. But try telling their hardcore fans that. A friend of mine lost the will to have open discussion after Amnesia fangirls ripped into him.

Maybe more disturbing is the work of someone like Tohru Ohmi, who has been allowed to publish a plethora of adult women in supernatural contexts doing adult things. Before reading Midnight Secretary, I thought maybe it might have been decent. Then seeing how submissive the women are and how despicable the glam men were, I felt sick. It was fairly high on the off-putting scale. Seeing females around the ages of those of Twilight or Black Bird seemed a bit plausible. But intelligent, career women being mere sex toys after dark? Give me a break...Seriously, does anyone even bother to give a femdom story any plausibility in that medium? There are magazines and the odd author specialising in that now, but yeah....they're not getting pushed...

Or someone like Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan. A capable woman being in the military? Yeah, I know the acceptance of women in the military isn't something all serving males believe in or some of the general public. But christ, if they're capable, moral and doing their duty, then why the hell can't they? Also critiquired for her looks, the fact she's seemingly near-perfect. Well....don't you think someone - aka Levi and Mikasa - have to be when you've got utterly detestable clowns like Eren and Armin in tow? Especially freaking of the highlights of AVCon was that during ep2 of Attack on Titan, when Mikasa gave Eren an almighty slap, someone gave a mild clap. I gave a bigger clap then about 400 people all clapped together for nearly a minute. Being a female within a shounen title can be a real curse. But at least some people have the brains to not tolerate a douchebag.

Rewatching Nanoha. Hard to believe this franchise somehow crumbled. Strangely, I think I'm liking it more this time around....and I can't determine why....I have a feeling the direction moe/magical girls has taken since then might have something to do with it. Or maybe I just needed something a bit lighter. It did take me a fair while to feel like watching anime again once AVCon was over.

So, apparently the FSN airing next season is Unlimited Blade Works. Once again, Heavens Feel misses out. Darn. As long as it's loyal to Nasu, still worth though.

Interesting thing regarding the reduction in Ghibli's short-term prospects. No one seems to want to even mention or discuss what Goro, Hayao's son, is up to. They had 'supposedly' mended their rift while making On Poppy Hill. Well, a friend of mine alerted me to a subtle change in an upcoming title that may explain everything.

This was going to be a Ghibli telemovie. It's now a series and somehow moved to Polygon - the home of ghastly CGI.

Something is up.....Methinks Goro and Hayao haven't patched things up and that Hayao ain't letting his son carry things on. But considering old man Hayao ignored Goro for decades at home and in general, no freaking surprise.

    Ofcourse I do. XP

But after explaining why I like Inaho and then getting an uncharacteristically dismissive and rude response undermining my reasoning, I decided you deserved to be messed around a little. XP

In any case it looks like you've taken it upon yourself to debate with practically the entire forum about this show so I've moved our debate to a more appropriate thread. If you don't want to respond to it then you don't have to. I've pretty much got the gist of what you wanted to say anyway.

Aww... thanks, Triple I'm always a fan of pretty much any picture of classic Sailor Moon (it's really the show that got me watching anime on a consistent basis whenever I marathoned the original series mid-2006 a few months after upgrading from dial-up), and that's a really lovely Code Geass image. It's my birthday, so hopefully Rolo won't kill me over Lelouch showing me positive attention. And since I have a very soft spot for Madoka, Madoka Kaname birthday cakes are the best kind.

Hmm... if I become friends with Lelouch, maybe I can get him to Geass Triple into writing Madoka fanfics more quickly...
