Oh, don't get me wrong. When I say it's my least favorite genre, I'm not saying I don't like it. I like pretty much every genre as long as they're done well really, it just so happens romance is the genre I'm the most picky about. It needs to have good characters or I get bored rather quickly. You mentioned I"s, that's one of those I didn't like much. Same for Video Girl Ai. Katsura's MC are too insufferable, and the girls aren't that great. Let's not mention how slow progression is too.

Ironically, I really like To Love-ru despite the MC being similar, but that's because the girls are amazing and the focus is more on comedy and boobs than romance

Everybody seems to hate Citrus, but I don't think it's that bad. The gorgeous art certainly helps, and at least the author tries to make stuff happen.

Recently, I've read Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (really great), Cage of Eden (very meh) and I'm currently on Area D. As for anime, I'm watching Touch.

Yes, while Lise has certainly done some horrifying things she's is still primarily a victim that was broken beyond repair.

Yeah, I'm aware of the general route it will take from here on, though not in detail. Am one of those people whose curiosity over what will happen gets the better of during an interesting series. If you have something spoilerish to discuss, feel free to PM me.

Another side-effect of the high school setting is the way romances are done, as in the 'takes virtually all series for them to declare their love to each other, potentially with numerous relationship resets along the way.
It's true that this happens often and is pretty annoying. I find that it's mostly romcom aimed at males that have this problem, and these are the ones that tend to get adapted. Most of the shoujo I've read actually have the MC going out with someone before the ending. I wonder if there's a reason for that. Do they think men are more interested in the "chase" than in actual relationship? Or perhaps it stems from a desire to not leave a girl on the side in the case of love triangles? (so as to not piss off the fanbase of said girl)
Either way, it starts getting really old after a while. Only way I can enjoy these anime is if they have good comedy or side plots to make up for the lack of romantic progress.

I honestly don't remember much about Girl Friends, but I do know I loved it and that it was the one who sparked my interest in romance (which still remains my least favorite genre).

Yeah, I just got a bit tired of seeing those complaints about cuts/rushing every single week. Condensing seven volumes (I think) into 12 episodes is not an easy task at all. There will be cuts and changes here and there, question is always a) do the cuts/changes alter the nature of the series b) do the cuts/changes alter the nature of key characters c) do the cuts/changes impact the understanding of what's going on. I just don't think that those usual suspects complaining about cuts are thinking about it at all.

All in all the pace is fast, that's right and there are sometimes a few scenes here and there where I think you could slow down a bit (most notably episode 3 where the attitude change of Theodor could've been a tad more fleshed out) but all in all I as anime-only person don't feel that anything significant is out of place.

What I'm watching this season aside from Schwarzesmarken is Boku Dake ga Inai Machi too, Active Raid, Assassination Classroom 2, Ao no Kanata, Dagashi Kashi, Dimension W, Divine Gate, Gate, KonoSuba, Musaigen no Phantom World, Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut and Shojo-tachi. A bit more than I usually watch, just somehow happened that way.

Sachiko and Satoru's relationship is definitely something I love about Erased. Not only because of the single mom thing, but also because it's rare to see parents portrayed in such a positive light in anime. Usually they're either bad, completely absent, or goofy. I feel that was something I hadn't seen since Usagi Drop.

High school was also one of the worst time of my life, so I can't say I was very fond of anime's obsession with this setting at first. I've learned to accept it and appreciate it since then though, but I agree it'd be nice if it wasn't so omnipresent and idealized. It really feels some anime are telling you it's all downhill from there. Having an adult as the MC is a always a plus for me.

If I had to name a favorite year, I'd say 2005 with Akagi, Aria, Basilisk, Gankutsuou, School Rumble, Mushishi, Honey and Clover, Noein and Kamichu.

I haven't seen his latest movie yet but I personally really like Hosoda's stuff, particularly The girl who leapt through time. I do agree his works are very focused on family, and I like them precisely because I'm not very close to my family and am yearning for a connection like the ones presented in his films.

I loved When Marnie was there as well and am really looking forward to the director's next work, whenever it happens. Among recent Ghibli works, Kaguya hime no monogatari was also damn good. I feel like the studio has gotten a nice second wind, but I guess Miyazaki doesn't feel the same way? These two films were a lot better than the Wind Rises IMO.

I pretty much feel the same way about 5cm per second. I never understood why it was praised so much when his previous works were much stronger (except visually). Glad he returned in top form with Garden of Words, which quickly became my favorite.

Maaya Sakamoto was actually my favorite seiyuu before HanaKana. Fell in love with Rahxephon and I've always been looking forward to her performances since then. I love her as a singer too.

Amanchu is probably #1 on the list of anime I'm looking forward to this year. The manga is terrific and I know the anime is in good hands, I can't see what could possibly go wrong. It's different from Aria though, which some people might dislike. Curious to find out what the reception will be like.
After checking the chart for next season, I have to say there's quite a bit of stuff that sounds interesting. Of course, there's a difference between sounding interesting and actually being interesting, so we'll see.

First episode of Avvenire was indeed wonderful. It's so good to get more Aria after all these years. I savored every minute of this episode.

I don't think Shinkai has much to do with the "She and her cat" tv series starting tomorrow, but I think it will be good. Your favorite Shinkai works are the same as mine. Usually, people mention 5cm per second, but I much prefer those.

I haven't bothered checking out Schwarzesmarken given that I didn't like the previous Muv Luv anime. I'm waiting for them to make an adaptation of the main work. Not sure why they're sticking to spin-off.

Hi there. I'm always up for conversation, especially with someone with tastes similar to mine. Any anime you're enjoying this season aside from Erased and Rakugo? (which are definitely the top picks)
