2009-01-10 20:40RampagingEvangelionEh, Evangelion is a hit or miss series. Some love it, others hate it. Wasn't Asuka's final stand awesome? If only her Evangelion had an S2 engine like the MP EVAs...
The manga was Mahou Sensei Negima btw. My eyes still hurt, lol.
2009-01-10 00:51RampagingEvangelionOkay, sorry for not answering, I just read 237 volumes of a manga in one and a half days. <_< Anyways, to answer your questions: Rei is a clone of Lilith and Shinji's mother and is the key to activating the 3rd impact that Gendo wants. All three Third Impacts are different. If an angel touches Adam, then humans will die, SEELE wants humans to be in the center of the Third Impact so human kind can "Reach the next stage of evolution (Crazy bastards)", and Gendo's version will be centered around Evangelion Unit-01 and will re-unite him with Yui.
Whether everybody lived is something else. Nobody ever "died". Humans are the last angels. Our AT fields seperates us from one another and lets us be individuals. The Third Impact caused a Giant anti-AT field that caused all humans to form into LCL. They are all still alive, but all minds have merged.
Whether they can regain their AT field is still under debate. Some see the final scene with Asuka and Shinji as the new Adam and Eve. But Yui/Rei states that everybody can return from the Sea of LCL if they are determined enough.
As for who bandaged Asuka, I'm guessing that is involved the Third Impact (They never tell you). As for WHY her bandaged are like that...
In the battle against the MP EVAs, the replica Lance of Longinuses actually harm the pilot of the EVA. In the scene when Unit-02 is about to go berserker, it shows Asuka reaching up, then her arm splits down the middle (ouchies). That explains why her right arm is bandaged. Her left eye is damaged because of when the second lance goes through her left eye and presumably kills her (*cries*).
As for why Shinji was trying to strangle Asuka... You just saw all the thoughts of mankind (he was the center of the Third Impact afterall), all of its problems were placed on your shoulders. You like (love) Asuka and see her die (And not just died, you see her f'ed up and eaten by the MP EVAs). His mind is screwed up right now. Some presume he was strangling her because he thought she wasn't real and was just an illusion caused by the Third Impact. That's why he stops and cried on top of her after she touches his face.
As for Rei's Ghost: Since she is a clone of Lilith, she is like the mother of the planet. But no official explanation is given.
Isn't Evangelion screwy? It's like a mind rape at every turn! :P
Hope that helps. I'm tired and don't even know what I'm writing right now. Just PM me if something isn't clear. I'll respond when I'm not so tired.
2009-01-05 22:25Blank-MageAnd that's that, finished Death and Rebirth/End of Evangelion! .....And I still have no idea what happened. Why did Shinji try to strangle Asuka at the very end? What the hell was up with the Rei / Lilith thing? If Seele and Gendo were both trying to do the same thing, why did they fight? And if they BOTH wanted third impact all along, why stop the Angels in the first place? Did everyone live? Did everyone die? Who bandaged Asuka, and why does is it look exactly like Reis'? Why does every scene where someone dies have a ghost of Rei next to them?!
And there was a live-action scene?! Of an audience. After the crazy clipshow. AGH!
2009-01-04 02:51Blank-MageThe elevator scene didn't bother me as much as the Tabris scene did. I mean, at least the elevator scene had a reason to not do much, it's an elevator. (Haruhi had this one scene consisting of Nagato reading silently for 3 minutes. Konata complains about that same scene in Lucky Star, too. And speaking of Haruhi, Itsuki yells the names of Full Metal Panic seasons when he attacks. And Full Metal Panic had 4 members of Deathnote make a cameo. Anime rocks.)
2009-01-04 00:41RampagingEvangelionOh yeah, the second part of End of Eva is sorta like the last two episodes, but not as bad. The first part shows how messed up Shinji is in the first scene, but has a wicked battle later on.
2009-01-04 00:39RampagingEvangelionHey, I said eps 25-26 were like no-budget! :P How about the elevator scene or the scene with Unit-01 holding Tabris? Heh, the first time around I was like, "Did my TV freeze?"
Also, yeah, I'm a complete and total Asuka fan-boy so it sucked seeing her get mind-raped.
I would suggest End of Evangelion then Rebuild 1.0. Rebuild has some subtle differences you may not be aware of, but I could point them out after (if) you watch it. Plus, the battle against Ramiel (Giant pyramid angel) is awesome... Ah, I remember the first time I watched it.
2009-01-03 03:04Blank-MageI just finished the standard 26 episodes. And I see what you meant by telling me to go with the rebuild... The last three episodes consisted of the characters yelling NO and covering their ears, and then Shinji stopped being emo, everyone clapped, the end! Very climactic, sarcasm. It was nice to see Shinji grow up, but it was equally painful to watch Asuka take his place. I really liked her, ya know? It was a reverse tsundere! Speaking of which Rei doesn't qualify as one because she never developed as a character. Like, ever. I kept expecting her to improve, but alas. Maybe I'm still hooked on Saber. (Best tsundere ever!)
Anyway, I'll hit the End of Evangelion now, and get the introspective taste out of my mouth. (Can't believe the episodes 25 and 26 didn't even have an Eva in them.)
2009-01-01 00:47RampagingEvangelionHah, yeah. Shinji is about as emo as they get. It's a good series, you may have to rewatch some parts to fuly understand it. I would suggest watching the movie End of Evangelion BEFORE episodes 25-26. Those eps make it look like they had a budget of next to nothing!
2008-12-30 03:34Blank-MageThought I'd let you know, I've finished Trigun, and Evangelion was picked via unbiased pick-a-number methods. So I'm on Episode 4, am I'm beginning to realize why everyone kept telling me how emo Shinji was... Seriously, he's the most most helpless pilot in... ever.
(But I love tsunderes, and Rei has my undivided attention.)
