The way I see it, "Unknown" pretty much means "Whatever you want it to be".

It's no fun like that.

But it's not like Chrona has no gender. Let's be hopeful that Chrona does have one.

there should be a thread with a vote then hopefully down the road he/she's gender is revealed and then whoever guessed right can gloat!:D

Well they use the word 'Unknown', if they don't intend for Chrona to have a gender, they would use 'None/Nil'... IMO.

I know this is jumping the gun, but I'm really anxious to see Arachne, Giriko, and Mini-Medusa animated.

The thing about fictional characters is that until a gender is assigned, it's as if they have none. Unlike a real person who is necessarily something even if you don't know it yet, a fictional character is actually neither male nor female nor hermaphrodite nor neuter until someone tells us. "Unknown" in this context means that either it'll be a plot twist/joke in the future or the creators haven't decided yet and probably never will decide.

Which then brings me back to my original statement of "Whatever you want it to be".
