Sasami-san@Ganbaranai
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/imag...6918/syoei.gif
Original creator (light novel) : Akira Original Character-design : Hidari Plot summary : The story follows a hikikomori (shut-in) named Sasami who is unmotivated about even changing clothes or eating. Her brother takes care of her, even though she despises his slave-like nature. Sasami spends her days viewing the outside world via a "Brother Surveillance Tool" on her computer. In the outside world, the three beautiful Yagami sisters and Sasami's brother are in the middle of relationships worthy of a romantic comedy. Note : Akira launched the light novel series in 2009. The sixth volume shipped in August. |
Looks interesting, but hopefully Sasami's brother won't turn out to have much of a "slave-like" nature.
|
Huh, well that definitely sounds... interesting? Will be keeping an eye on this, I guess.

... I think I'm sensing some bro-con...

Hooray another show about Hikkikomori's and/or creepy vaguely incestuous relationships between slavishly doting brother(s) and his sister(s). Please make more shows with these themes Japan as the audience for this clearly isn't being served well enough.
|
Let me say one thing now that I finished reading the second volume today: the summary isn't wrong, but the story in Sasami-san is way more serious than it appears. I started reading mainly because of Hidari's illustrations (lol), but this series turned out to be very interesting because of its different setting (no, it doesn't have relations with hikikomoris) and how the story has some heavy and touching moments. Of course there are some fun/fanservice chapters too :D
The real setting has relation with: Spoiler for Plot:

According to Moonphase Diary, the anime will premiere next year on TBS and BS-TBS stations.

Director: Akiyuki Shinbo
Script/series composition: Takayama Katsuhiko Character design/chief animation director: Harada Hiroki Studio: Shaft Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread) I... wow, I just starting reading the LN recently and thought how fitting it would be if Shaft were the ones to animate it. Never thought it would actually come true! |
Quote:
^mfw I see that staff list. THAT'S AWESOMEEEEEEE!!! I was going to call it quits if Hidari's character design gets screwed one more time, and then they got Harada on board!!!! |
The premise already seemed interesting enough and now...Shinbo? Damn, how I wish this would air on fall :(
|
Takayama Katsuhiko worries me. His recent screenplay work are not so good. :\

SHAFT's piling up again. They have this, PRISM NANA, Hidamari Sketch, Madoka and Kizumonogatari in line already. You'd think they've learned after slowing down for a whole year but I guess not. I still love them.
|
Quote:
But I don't think they are piled up with work though. The first Madoka movie is essentially a re-cap anyway. |
Shinbo/Shaft's got a load of work nonetheless ... tch, no wonder Kizu was delayed >.>
|
...Well, Shaft certainly seems to like material with WTF premises. This one gives me a subtle Arakawa vibe.
|
Official site updated with what seems to be a key illustration of the anime.
http://i.imgur.com/gHebB.jpg Can't tell if this is Hidari's illustration or Harada Hiroki's character designs, but coloring looks very anime-ish. I'm hoping we're seeing SHAFT pulling another Denpa Onna's character design again here... |

It looks more like anime designs than Hidari artwork... Yep, I'm going to say it's anime designs.
Looks absolutely wonderful. We finally have a winner for adapting Hidari's designs! Also I forgot to mention this before, but since Aniplex is on this, what are the chances that Iwakami is the producer? We might have another potential Monogatari/Madoka here. |
Hmm ... this one looks a bit more interesting with the updates, but ... hmm. I am still having some difficulty wrapping my head around the overall plot and/or what "happens" in the story, for some reason. :\
|
This is kind of light novel that Shaft loves - anything that has trolling in story.

Full page with the previous announcement:
Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread) It says that the main cast will be announced at an event on the 18th. Edit: also a PV was shown at C82, nothing special though: Dynamic tag cannot be rendered. (PrintableThread) |
I'm quickly glancing at the page, and am I wrong in assuming that the '9' and '31' are the ages of the girls? Because WTF, the left girl looks to be 31 and the right girl looks to be 9. :eyebrow:
|
Quote:
Yes, those ages are correct. 31 year old loli and 9 year old busty girl. Just another one of the many oddities this series contains. At least Kagami looks like a normal 16 year old. |
We have character design by RomioXJuliet and... Yugioh Zexal. Not sure if he is capable. Only thing I expect from this series is Hidari illustration actually being portrayed as animation, not like Fractal S***.
Quote:
Also, it's not vaguely incestuous relationship. Sister already 'loves' his bro. |

Hidari's an illustrator I really appreciate as many here and I think one of his strengths is his great use of colors so I guess color setting will be also an important matter for this anime character design. I wonder if Shaft will include a series director to handle this series. I'd have chosen Yukihiro Miyamoto for this kind of series but he's certainly busy with Madoka. Concerning this series itself I'm kinda interested since I enjoyed the author's previous work (Kyouran Kazoku Nikki). |
Ah, so this is from KKN's author. I was going to watch it because it was Shaft, but that's all the more reason. KKN was one of the first anime I paid attention to, and probably played a part in me liking anime with a more absurd bent.

Interview with producer Tanaka Junichiro (TBS) from Maker Oudan Anime Guide 2012 Summer.
http://i.imgur.com/VklMfm.jpg Click to enlarge The interesting bit: Q: Anything you have to be particular careful for the anime adaptation? Also please tell us some backstory about the production. A: We'll make the best use of each character's traits since they all have interesting personality! We won't change the story's basis, you will be able to enjoy the anime whether you come from the original work or from watching anime. I'll also have SHAFT work harder than usual on character design and coloring. Producer Tanaka is also the one responsible for Hidamari Sketch and Denpa Onna. |
Start in January 2013
Kana Hanazawa is in the cast \o/ http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-11344.html |
Quote:
Sasami Tsukuyomi: Kana Asumi (Yuno from Hidamari Sketch) Kamiomi Tsukuyomi: Hochu Otsuka (Shiro from Arakawa Under the Bridge) Tsurugi Yagami: Chiwa Saito (Hitagi from Bakemonogatari, Stella from Arakawa Under the Bridge, Homura from Madoka Magika) Kagami Yagami: Kana Hanazawa (Nadeko from Bakemonogatari) Tama Yagami: Ai Nonaka (Kafuka from Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, Kyoko from Madoka Magika) SHAFTish as usual |
That's a 120% SHAFT cast right there. Kana Hanazawa as Kagami was so obvious as a typecast that I was almost expecting her not to be it... :heh: Looking forward to January!
|
With Ai Nonaka on the cast, I'll definitely be keeping my eyes on this.
|
Amazing cast.
|
I want to hear Chiwa Saito using her Becky voice for Tsurugi.
|
SHAFT + great cast = profit.
This anime is gonna be a lot of fun to watch, that I'm sure of. |
Chiwa Saitou. I'm in. But i smell incest here. Uggh.
|
Typical Shaft casting. I'm pleased.
|
Such an explosion of SHAFT goodness recently. This looks awesome. Hidamari, Madoka, Kizumonogatari, Prism Nana, and finally Sasami-san@Ganbaranai. I can hardly wait for any of it.
