Once again, the Ala Alba OVA has exceeded my expectations.

There isn't one yet, as far as I know.

aye, no one needs to "send one" to you even if one did exist. that's what bit torrents, IRC, and direct downloads are for....o.O

It'll probably get subbed in between the tv broadcast seasons when groups have a bit of time to kick around.

well ... i only noticed one thing where it drifted from the Manga (short of Asakura's humongus breasts which might very well to be honests be a jaded look of how Anya sees it) ... Konoka didn't phone Nekane when i remembered her to have done it ... though that might just be me mixing up the order of things :P

I believe the blogger, Kurogane, is planning on subbing them. He did the first.

Great show once again, though still plagued by the annoying problems. For instance, they changed the solid fabric of the inn robes to a pattern that refuses to move with the cloth it's supposed to be on. Why can't they take a couple minutes to make the patterns move according to the fabric movement, or otherwise not put patterns in where they're really unnecessary? This way just looks bad. The other problem, which I saw less of, was the occasional tendency to overexaggerate expressions to comic levels. Akamatsu occasionally uses super deformation to enhance the expressions, but never to the level that these people do. Fortunately, it wasn't anywhere near as extreme as Makie's explosion in ep1 when she alerted Iinchou to the new club's existence.
On the plus side, the overall animation and design again holds very true to Akamatsu-sensei's work, with little in the way of story alteration.
Spoiler for The only change I caught:

The flashback scene was pretty well chosen. The one thing these chapters lacked was the high-power action to balance the romantic comedy, so they needed to bring something in. Hopefully the next one will have more real action again.
The exaggeration of characters' cleavage in Anya's perspective was pretty good, although it unfortunately reminded me of a doujin series that I refuse to read(If you've looked around for Negi doujins, I'm sure you'll find what I'm talking about real quick.) The sfx for Chizuru was perfect though.

It's a Shinbo thing. He loves making visually confusing anime. Frankly, we're lucky they managed to get him to tone that down as much as he did. See Negima!? for a more blatant example of his normal way of doing things.

Vexx 2008-11-20 01:46

aye, Shinbo does that pattern thing in virtually all of his more recent projects....

and thank gods someone put a leash on him or whatever happened that the OVAs actually seem to be related to the manga in some way.

Well he was probably told to follow the manga, because i know that Negima!? was always going to be an original telling of the story.

Anyone else notice Yue and Nodoka's random "out of clothes experience"? They're walking along wearing swimsuits, we switch to a wide view and suddenly they look naked, then back to closeup and the swimsuits are back.

Yep that sounds like Akiyuki Shinbo.

Is anyone planning on subbing this? There hasn't been a word out of anyone for a while now about it. I'd kind of like to see it, after all.

Word. Ala Alba #1 was the best anime representation of Negima so far, by far.
