Plot Summary

Great heroes and diabolical villains are the types of characters that people long to be—but not Cid Kagenou. He longs to become the true mastermind behind it all, pulling the strings, and having his machinations drive the entire story. In his previous life in modern-day Japan, he was not able to achieve his goals. But now, reborn into a world of magic, he will show the true eminence of shadow!

As Cid pretends to be just another average mob character, he recruits members to his (fake) organization Shadow Garden, aiming to take down the mysterious cult who lurks in the shadows. What better way to start off a series than a gal sleeping in bed in nothing but a shirt and panties! We even get a nice shower scene for good measure :love:!

Akane feels like a more twisted version of Mai Sakurajima. She went through something traumatic in middle school (being stalked and sexually assaulted) and rather than wanting to retreat into people never seeing her she projected the perfect high school girl role and get everyone to shower her with (good) attention. Which makes her really ticked when the guy who sits next to her who she never wanted anything to do with ends up not really seeing her and getting her name wrong. Multiple times :eyespin:.

Immediately Kageno strikes you as someone who seems a bit detached from the world and sees it in terms of gaming/fictional terms, but in true anime fashion there's much more to him than that. Like, he can play the piano! Random flex, but pretty impressive nevertheless :heh:

Was that Yui Horie as Akane? Hocchan still proving she can pull off a high school heroine! Although it doesn't seem like Akane was ever meant to be the true Heroine of this series :twitch:.

Oof. Poor Akane. Getting kidnapped by enemies of your father and held ransom, and almost assault again. That's rough :(.

So Kageno has actually been training hard and become an efficient and effective vigilante known as the Stylish Ruffian Slayer (or the Balaclava Bandit if you're some motorbike thugs), and not only can he beat up criminals and even manage to subdue an ex-military guy with some stylish crowbar action, but he manages to save his classmate too :).

Kageno finally gets Akane's name right! And Akane sees that they may be more similar than she expected. It's just too bad the possible connection between the two of them was tragically cut short :upset:.

But I guess getting Isekai'ed worked out for Kageno in the end. He always held on to his childish dream of being a hero or someone special, but to properly fulfill that dream he needed legit powers (to the point where he wouldn't be killed by a truck again), and he now has that in his new life. But he wants to be more than a hero, he wants to be the cloaked avenger in the shadows...The Eminence in Shadow :cool:.

Although maybe he's not a full-on Superhero in his terms, but he's still surrounded by a bunch of hot girls, voiced by top tier seiyuu, wearing sexy, skintight, outfits. That's pretty Superhero-y to me :p.

The Opening is pretty nice! Very action-y and engrossing, showing the girls in their daily life as students and...in red and white version of their uniforms in the daylight? Are they public Superheroes when they're nor working for Kageno :eyebrow:?

Interesting... this was an Episode Zero, a "before the story begins" sort of thing. The cheese starts next week, I expect.

Kageno is freaking nuts and I'm already in love with this show :heh:

I'm ready to be trolled by the dumbness of this show.

For a bit I thought I was watching the wrong show...

Also, too bad we didn't see muscle Kageno...
