O Canada! Our home and native land!
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.

God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen
God save the Queen
Send her victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen.

Statutory Holiday Time! I plan to score a miniature flag at work tonight to put on my computer desk.

Happy Canada Day for the Canadians ^_^

Mueti 2007-07-01 15:54

Hm, never heard of something like this, holidays for specific nations...?

Anyway, happy Canada Day I guess. ;)

TigerII 2007-07-01 18:29

Happy Canada day neighbors to the north.

@ Mueti:Wiki's Entry for Canada Day

I wish I could be with my family in Canada for this day (as I'm out of the country until the end of summer). I always wanted to travel to Ottawa for the Canada Day...but I guess I could go with them next year...or the year after.

For those who are celebrating Canada Day, Canadians or not, Happy Canada Day.

Its Canada's day to celebrate their independence. I'm pretty sure Germany has some kind of annual patriotic day, doesn't it?... hmm, maybe not.

Anyway, almost all countries who achieved independence from some colonizing empire or 'country-creation' day have such a thing.

Cheers to Canada, one of my favorite places to visit. Very good "nice people vs jerk" ratio.

Well of course. I guess what I was surprised at was just that it's named "Canada Day" which sounded somewhat international to me.

It used to be called Confederation Day (I seem to recall when I was a kid it was called that, and NO that wasn't in 1867 :D)

it's a celebration of Canada's birthday rather than a celebration of throwing off some yoke, Britain had a number of colonies in British North America that they integrated into the Dominon of Canada, in order to resist further United States' encroachment into the continent in opposition to US' Manifest Destiny (and that's straight out of my public school education).

[ And speaking of Empires, Canada was a loyal member of the British Empire for a long time, we still have "Victoria Day" (used to be called "Empire Day") in celebration of Queen Victoria, under her reign the Empire was at its zenith...]

Happy Canada Day 2015!

Only two years to go until the 150th birthday celebrations kick off.

Once again, the CBC are broadcasting the main ceremonies being held in Ottawa - but are also providing glimpses from St. John's (where the day also marks the commemoration of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment's severe losses at Beaumont-Hamel in 1916), Vancouver, and Inuvik.

MrTerrorist 2015-07-01 20:48

Happy Canada Day.
