Another Yui episode, but it surprisingly had both music and character development.
Spoiler:

Good anime original. I was expecting Azunyan and Yui's performance to suck since they made the second school fest performance a success.

So is this thing actually going to be longer than 12 episodes?

No wonder Yui never gains weight. She's hyper-active as hell!

I like to watch Azunyan training Yui every time.

:D

Hehehe, training her indeed.......

It looks like Oba-chan is a very small woman considering Yui and Azusa are small themselves.

Azu-nyan looks damn moe in her casual and kimono(?).

I never quite understood the fascination with her but after this episode, count me in! :heh:

Funny you mentioned that. Mio's reaction to that was much more vicious in the manga: :D

I'll blame her tea and cake deprived teacher.

That was a most adorable episode...

Yui somehow makes even Azusa peak her maternal instincts. It was fun to see Yui being treated sternly by Azunyan.

by the way, take a look at this in-anime self advertisement during the airing of this episode by Kyoto Animation:

Quite a nice, slow paced episode. THIS is more atuned to the style I've been expecting from K-ON all this time. Excellent episode.

Yeah, I was like "Lolwut, is this K-On?" when it came on before the show. So their mascots are the little boys and girls?

This was a very nice episode, cute as well. For being a ditz and a clutz, Yui did surprisingly well on her finals scoring in the 80s and low 90s. That's very impressive.

I especially liked the duo with Azusa and Yui, and both of them in matching kimonos. :)

Probably in two-- I mean, one word the episode can be summed up in: YuiAzu.

Good episode. So does anybody know about Yui's parents? This episode really made me think about that. I mean, oba-chan didn't raise them, did she? Anyway, I really liked Azu-nyan this episode. I also liked that Yui planned to give the hot springs trip to oba-chan. Lol @ Yui getting good finals scores. The talent show was nice, too.

Line of the episode: "Make sure you don't confuse soy sauce with sugar." :P.

Overall, a pretty good episode that featured Yui and Azu-nyan character development.

7/10.

Old Lady's Name?

I noticed that KyoAni actually named the old lady (and did not hide it), while they won't even do the same thing for the classmates. :upset:

I'm just wondering how the name is pronounced. (All I could tell is that the given name is Tomi.)

I surprisingly loved the episode. Let's care for the old folks as well ^_^

I honestly didn't expect Yui to actually perform well on her finals, given that she usually can't multitask. OTOH, we also know she can do anything if she truly sets her mind to it, so maybe we never fully understood Yui's mentality either.

Anyway, delightful little episode this was. I liked that Azusa decided to keep an eye on Yui by performing with her. The comedy routine was fun, though Azusa looked a bit stiff (I'm pretty sure Yui and Ritsu would've done it a whole lot better). Short yukatas were lovely, as was Yui's hairstyle (once again reminding me of how eerily similar she looks to Ui). Interesting how they did a watered-down version of Fude Pen.

And I think KyoAni really want to place their stamp on this show, judging by the (rather shameless) self-promotion they did here. I wonder if they'll be doing this for every show they'll be doing from now on.

Next episode it's Sawako's turn to shine (or not). Should be interesting.

Yuiazu is the best sadomasochistic couple of girls ever.I think.
On the one hand Yui has been dependent too much on her younger sister.
but on the other she has been in need of strict trainer like Azusa.
We saw Yui slapped on the face or dragged on the floor by sadistic Azunyan.
and yet māsochístic Yui seems to enjoy those treatments.

MeoTwister5 2010-06-02 06:08

Oh hells yes Yui-centric episode with more than enough Yui x Azusa you can shake a pick at.

It's a long time coming that Yui needed an episode like this. While a lot of her given traits have already been presented in previous episodes, the episodes manages to convey these traits not solely on their moe or negative connotations but that they are really what makes Yui... well Yui. They are what makes her her and not solely as some moe selling point for fans to lap up. She wouldn't be the Yui we know without them. It manages to show that Yui isn't simply some irresponsible goofball that everyone has to take care of, but when she has to she can do what needs to be done and take care of someone else (such as the role reversal with Azusa during practice), and more importantly she WILL work through he bad habits for the right reasons.

Which is why Oba-chan got it right when she said that Yui has really matured over the years. Despite her forgetfulness and her irresponsibility, she possesses important traits not usually associated with maturity but are themselves one of the factors that will set you apart from everyone else: focus, drive and most of all, thoughtfulness.

Might just be the best episode of the season.
