Incest banzai! Is there any significance to the fact this episode manage to be the first one to complete its download in the torrents? I had four downloads at the time. Do I have issues? I sure hope so. :heh::D

Let the Fall 2010 season begin.

So this pretty much means, avert thy eyes and the situation in progress is completely ignored? My spider sense is tingling. I'm half way there and I'm already enjoying the heck out of this. :heh:

edit: Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.. she just invited him to her room. doki doki

Clarste 2010-10-03 19:25

Brother guy (can't remember his name) must have some sort of complex given how much he thinks about her. You'd think that since she ignores him and he ignores her that he wouldn't have dreams like that or be bothered so much in school. Why does he care so much about the not caring?

Of course, in the second half he seemed to slip into "say whatever it takes to shut her up so I can go back to sleep" mode.

A pretty good start to the series. Of course this series proves just how far anime and reality really are :heh:. Kirino is a pretty cute character especially when she dives into her hobby. I'm amazed her closet can contain so much stuff. She'll need to buy a house at some point just to hold all the stuff she ends up buying. Am glad they quickly made clear how she could afford that stuff since I was wondering if she was really some grand thief :heh:.

Still that's family for you, instead of a gentle way of waking someone up it has to be dramatic :heh:. Well I'll say no one has hit me awake, but trying to blind me with the lights is not unheard of....Tough time for Kyousuke getting up a few times like that. A really good guy though for not being judgmental and handling a crazy request like playing a game like that.

Did find Kyousuke hitting the fetal position to hide from his mother pretty hilarious :).

wingman32x 2010-10-03 19:38

Great start. They captured the art style of the LN and manga perfectly. Kirino is just too cute! Her facial expressions when describing the various games were so freakin adorable. They did a great job of adapting this.

HandofFate 2010-10-03 19:51

nothing really grabbing me, I liked reading the avaiable manga chapters, but might not be up to follow the actual anime episodes. Some things seems to be lost in transition though.

Kirino's tooth is to die for though. I want to rub it all around that tooth of hers. The ending was a good point to stop at. With the sister getting her brother to play a game, and her reaction what which choice the brother picked.

Since you're just copy-pasting your post from another forum, I'm just gonna copy-paste my response.

From what I can tell, the manga added a lot of subtext that wasn't in the LN, and that kind of annoyed me so I'm liking this adaptation.

Considering that the term is used to refer to female otaku, and that Kirino actually in love with her brother (and that brocon eroge she has), I find this term quite fitting. :heh:

I could be wrong though. She's nowhere as rotten or spoilt. She's just cute.

Clarste 2010-10-03 20:59

Is she in love with her brother? It seems to me that she herself has a little sister fetish and doesn't even think about her brother at all until he becomes the only person who will accept her secret.

Fujoshi refers to girls who like BL and Yaoi.

Considering she slaps him and wakes him up in the middle of the night, I think she still isn't thinking about her brother though...

Well, it's a step up from pretending he doesn't exist.

I thought it also applies to girls who like to imagine themselves in the role of the female protagonists in shoujo manga. I need a more precise source other than 4ch and Google.

She's a tsundere. What do you expect? From another anime showing this season, Biri-biri still attempts to taser Touma despite having feelings for him.

Ricky Controversy 2010-10-03 21:10

At first pass, I used to think this series would go the incest direction, but having re-read some of the source and watching the way it is carried across in this first anime episode, I don't particularly see it that way. I think the incest angle is a red herring, and the main point is about brother and sister developing an actual sibling bond, and enriching each other in the process.

Good first episode. The art style is rather to my liking.

Step up? Mmm~...
I'd rather be left alone than be tortured though.

Yeah, there are some people out there that randomly use the term too much, even when it doesn't make sense, sadly.

Sadly, this event feels a lot more "real", so I can't really just laugh it off as easily as an Esper shooting thunderbolts at lecturers. And as far as I've seen, the action was more of her not thinking about him and thinking about herself than any act of tsundere-ness.

Fujoshi generally refers to otaku girls who are into BL and yaoi (sorry, someone beat me to that). I don't think she qualifies when she's fanatically buying games and shows about big brother/little sister incest.

It does make her a little creepy, especially with her "normal" behavior in comparison. I've stumbled across one or two manga about that sort of relationship, and generally if the sister treats her brother that cruelly, he'd eventually find her on his bed, smelling his clothes and reading his porn with one hand. Her level of dislike seems to suggest that either he did something to her (don't think so from the story) or she's trying to deal with an inner desire to be like that.

I imagine she's afraid to be affectionate with her brother because she thinks she might want to be TOO affectionate, so she treats him like dirt and plays games where she can see girls act the way she wants to act (or thinks she does). And of course she still is very embarrassed/ashamed of the idea that she might have a slight crush on her brother, so she automatically focuses on the girls who look absolutely nothing like her. Of course, it looks like she's just afraid that she might be like that, so she refuses to be even a normal sister. I imagine a lot of this will be her learning to allow a certain level of love and dependence, and to trust that neither one of them will do something stupid. Still, after showing her brother a bunch of games with guys having sex with their little sisters, I think the girl was a little dumb to crawl up to him staring in his eyes, acting way too much like one of the game characters. And seriously, what man could seriously try to get a virtual sister to have virtual sex while his real sister watches.

I loved the stuff in her closet, some entertaining titles hidden away. I found Amakami, Strawberry Confusion, Sister Principle, and SisXSis (especially loved that last one).

Clarste 2010-10-03 21:25

You have to remember that she's also sort of an overachiever, while he's a slacker who's only goal is to be "normal". It wouldn't be surprising for someone like her to look down on him in normal circumstances. There's also implications that she's sort of spoiled by their parents (they talked about her over breakfast, she has a bigger room, etc).

Very good point. It would make more sense if that was the reason they don't get along well. Supossing that Kirino was the one who started the odd relationship then it would be natural for Kyousuke to follow along and react the same way. And since he has friends and a normal school life, then he probably thinks that it is not really worth fixing thing up with Kirino. But then he was mature enough to start caring for her (at least somewhat) after learning of her hobby/problem.

quoting kj1980's post from the Otaku lingo thread.

Fujoshi

It is a pun on the word 婦女子 (fujoshi: high-class girls) by replacing the first word to read 腐女子 (fujoshi: literally, "rotten girls").

It is a term used by girls to self-mock themselves about being "rotten." That meaning - fujoshis are the ones that always think of BL (boy's-love) relationships, yaoi-like ideas, have extreme curiosity in portraying two sexy guys together (like Cloud x Sephiroth), etc. etc. Basically, it is the terminology used to describe "yaoi-loving fangirls" as they are called outside of Japan. In many ways, Haga Reiko and her friends in "Comic Party" and Ohno Kanako from "Genshiken" can be portrayed as a stereotypical fujoshi.

Hoping that this term catches on, I'm going to be checking how many American girls are holding placards proclaiming "I AM A FUJOSHI!" rather than "I love yaoi!!" at this year's Anime Expo. wwwww
no, Kirino is not a fujoshi. though it would have been hilarious if she were. :heh:

will post my thoughts on the episode later today (or tomorrow).

I actually don't like the manga because you can tell the artist used to draw porn and still probably does. The anime seems to be a lot more respectful to the LN.
